an. instant i've. the top stories on our t.v. and raised protesters continue their assault on parliament hours after the greek government approves more a sturdy cards paving the way for billions in the e.u. bailout loans. syria's unrest or threatens to spread across the middle east israel is concerned that hezbollah is moving weapons to lebanon just in case of assad is overthrown. and war plans in russia continue to struggle in adults but a lack of government provided housing means some have to live in rundown homes with
12:01 pm
little help. to stop for a.p.m. here in the russian capital you're watching r.t. thanks for joining us now to our top story the greek government has voted in favor of a new round of austerity cuts securing the next multibillion installment of cash from the e.u. and staving off a default furious protesters have reacted violently to the vote with battles between police and demonstrators continuing just meters from parliament all scenes from downtown athens resemble a war zone as protesters fight with riot squads amid volleys of tear gas hundreds of thousands of people nationwide walked off their jobs for a two day strike against the u.s. thirty cuts or they say a drowning the country in debt for interest rates has failed once and it will fail
12:02 pm
again well there are worrying reports of escalating violence in prostitution square dozens reported injured or detained by police. but for more on what the vote means for greece and the e.u. we're now joined live by a journalist who are you really talking to was live from athens thanks very much for joining us and you just go please give us the latest on what's happening in our pins right now. with afternoon from athens a few minutes ago we heard the grenades from constitution square it's about three to four minutes from here there is dense smoke in the air. and the protesters are continuing to fight with the police they are throwing cost homes to the police and because these men are answering throwing grenades and tear gas there is a dense smoke in the sky but also in the metro station of constitution square even inside the metro station there are people for frightened to hide in the metro but
12:03 pm
there is smoke in there there are some doctors would drop the whole talk from inside the metro and say that there are people who cannot breathe and there are some who did about there are some formation of. it we have only information from people there are here and from our story here where there earlier right now we have to say. that some are saying that it's now resembling a war zone over there let's talk about the political cost of what has been the real political cost of this bailout for the government in terms of the next elections of a process among the people. well. past the maser for one hundred fifty five to one hundred thirty eight when the results where are the become known to the people of people reacted. aggressive way so now the government has to face. greeks who are on the road. told earlier
12:04 pm
that we must avoid the conference co-ops are told ghost and the government thinks that this cesium but said to quit is the only solution and we have to say that a m.p. from the socialist mr croom please be cited to vote against. the skull fun and also list decides to throw him out of the party but i'm gather hunter another m.p. from becomes. but if they decide to vote in favor of the misery and then decided to become independent these are the changes that we had today in parliament it was a process that was due to begin to begin. but finally began three thirty and to morrow we are going to have a long process through. august and september we have another inspection and then we are going to see what the results from euro zone i.m.f.
12:05 pm
but i would have to add that mr barroso and i. expressed their satisfaction very sorry to interrupt you i just want to ask about the people of greece know the burden that cuts will place on the greek taxpayer do you think it's worth the sacrifice of the cross that will be put in place. of course it's a full of course it is a sacrifice for greek people they don't want their taxes the pay enough the don't want to pay more money because they do not have more money but the m.p.'s voted for it so i don't know if they have they can do the job they do have other choices mr older and told yesterday at public television that there is no plan b. we had to vote for the plan today all right well thank you very much for your insight there is a car do it i need
12:06 pm
a journalist talking to us from athens thank you very much but one of your main agreements has held by the protesters is that they're being made to pay for the mistakes of others most of them believe they'll never see a penny of the bailout that will saddle generations with debt. on the streets of athens the voices of discontent crying louder. it's a war we did not create this so we're going to pray for this day we want to become like a bug as greece continues to fight against economic ruin second bailout. and attempt to prevent greece from t. fulfill its previous lame attainments that the greek people will be seeing a penny. not of this bailout money actually comes into the greek economy it all goes out. repayments at the battles on save the banks and prevent a large scale financial crisis for the people the price is simply too high they see
12:07 pm
their income going down they see taxes taxes taxes and nothing else their money does not go to very early economy a year a struggling against heart or sterett he measures it meant the government now faces an electorate a case to the bailouts they are going to get all this the problem. is the problem i mean. they are going to get almost everything. but the good people they are going to get it in this in this. case rick. the bailout would certainly come it's a high cost for the cuts in public spending and raising taxes and in the quest of privatization program that would mean the sale of many quick public assets this is robbery this is theft. attention on the streets of athens continues to mount violent scenes witness recently disturbing testimony just how far situations
12:08 pm
deteriorate is one of the reasons that everybody is so determined to keep greece in the euro is so that the banks don't have to take a serious hit on their faulty lending policies is almost as if there's a whole other holy alliance of politicians and bankers versus ordinary people it's a fight that the people say they're not prepared to. r.t. athens. financial journalist immediately cautioning us who was out the protests the public's rage at being made a scapegoat is only just beginning to be expressed. what are they telling the people that only people the same the same pack of lies that you'd expect anyone to tell these measures what will could you possibly expect. you can't you can expect in the truth i mean the government is under an extreme amount of pressure from the e.u. and the i.m.f. to pass these measures these are clearly unpopular measures by everyone in the society not just people in the public sector i've made that point before these
12:09 pm
austerity measures include privatizations that are liquidations of corporate. and national wealth and resources these measures are seen as an affront to the greek nation which is what they are and we've seen this before is the thing you hear it's not like greeks have to stretch back into deep history to figure this out we can look at latin american we can look at countries all over the world where the i.m.f. has come in and sacrificed and plundered the nation for corporate consolidation and that's what this is and the greek people are smart they're not stupid and they understand that and the grahams economic situation in greece will be top of the entry for the new head of the international monetary fund and france's finance minister christine lagarde for analysis on what's of expected we're joined live from washington by ricardo yahoo is the host of analysts at voice of russia radio thank you very much for joining us mr you all so first question was it a good decision keeping a european of the head of the i.m.f. in face of this rapidly deteriorating financial situation of the e.u. . well first of all as you know christine lagarde as finance minister from france
12:10 pm
she's well regarded in international monetary circles first of all but she's also quite frankly a good politician when she was touring touring asia she made some promises that the asian countries they are the she would try to incorporate more asian people into the higher echelon of the i.m.f. so the same thing to some of the folks in india when she was touring india so she is now known as a person who wants to bring those folks from the developing countries to the i.m.f. board or the higher positions in the international monetary fund so she's right now looking like a very good person to look toward especially as in the previous report about the greek debt she's going to have a lot of say over what's going to happen over there and again she's highly regarded so to answer your question she is probably a very good choice because of this role do you think that's the reason why she got the support of emerging economies such as you mentioned china because she's
12:11 pm
promising to incorporate that more. well again as you know positions like that depend on political swing and political pull and a person with that kind of influence must tell other people at some point that we want to work with you know of course there was pressure at certain times during the the selection process to bring a nine european in but she appears to be leaning toward making a number to her number two possibly a nine european so i think that did play a big role in her selection but we also must look at something deeper here she's obviously very qualified she's a highly regarded in international financial circles but look at what happened to her predecessor he was caught in this terrible scandal and i think the those people that selected her those who supported her are also sending a message that the i.m.f. is not. for that her predecessor was involved and it's not anything about that so i think even the truly the selection of a woman in this case is good for the i.m.f.
12:12 pm
ok let's look at i mislike arts and u.s. ties there are already accusations that he's just a puppet figure for wall street to influence global policies how true is that do you think. well i don't think it's really that true i think there are those people who did not want you there of course but when they say the puppet of wall street as you know we're an international economy no what happens in the u.s. affects the european nations affects russia what happens in china affects other developing countries around the developed countries it's such an international global community economically and financially that to say that she's merely a puppet is really not the case i mean the world does run a banking system so i think that there are simply those folks who have as they say here in the states there are some sour grapes over her selection. thank you very much for your insight ricardo young a host of analysts that voice of russia radio thank you. and plenty ahead for you this hour including our team meets multi-talented nasa astronaut cady coleman who
12:13 pm
became a famous for her orbital flute performance on a five month long expedition to the u.s.s. cole find out just how hard it is to play in zero gravity. but israel's military is on edge after intelligence reports of troop movements in syria and across the border in lebanon its concern that has gone long might be moving weapons to strike out the jewish state to divert attention from its ally syrian president bashar al assad archy's policy or takes a look at how the situation in the region threatens to spin a further out of control. things are quiet on the israel lebanon border but many suspect it's a lull before the storm everything hinges on what happens in neighboring syria and what his politicise to do with its stockpiles their. opposition my take over in syria. will definitely consider these but lies an enemy is
12:14 pm
a threat so for its the mass of the. logical thing the bill will transfer the weapon they put in syria. into. lebanon for years has below found an ally in syrian president bashar assad and so it's no surprise they want him to stay in power but if he goes and those who pressurising him to do so would do well to remember this the regional impact could be terrifying syria are like libya is part of an alliance and their client is very wide it begins in iran son elements in iraq government are part of a syrian regime hezbollah in lebanon and hamas in gaza western intelligence reports suggest hizbollah has already started moving some of its advanced weaponry from its warehouses in syria to its forces in lebanon for fear that a side will be toppled but getting rid of him is one thing dealing with the consequences quite another situation in syria looks.
12:15 pm
dangerous. syrian government. group. and is really fear a new war in the region even if the syrian regime stays tell of it reportedly sent a message to president assad warning him that if he starts a war with israel in order to divert attention from domestic problems israel would target him personally but such a war would also play into the hands of his fellow as far as you know hizbullah has now it collated around forty five thousand missiles of various ranges. there is run of the old part of. the range goes beyond three hundred and but it's three hundred fifty kilometers which according to them at least they can reach the whole of. the souls of the country which is something israelis know these missiles originated in syria they found their way to lebanon and then they were fired by hizbollah onto the true state back in two thousand and six this museum was set up about
12:16 pm
a decade ago so that the i.d.f. could display weapons ammunition and items that are captured from israel's enemies on the ground and almost administrate the lebanese palestinian and hizbollah flags flying on the israeli border the mystery is clear here new countries immune to what happens to its neighbor and it won't take much to turn the region's precarious peace into all out war policy r.t. israel. and france has become the first country to openly admit it has supplied the libyan rebels with weapons a french military spokesman said be arms including machine guns and rocket propelled grenades were parachuted in by air to besieged rebels meanwhile in washington the senate foreign relations committee has finally authorized american involvement in libya something that president obama was strongly pushing for the resolution gives approval for u.s. warplanes and unmanned drones to continue
12:17 pm
a limited strikes for up to one here but forbids the deployment of ground troops pressure professor of international studies at trinity college in hartford says the opposition is yet another legal violation. the idea of limited engagement is rather absurd to me you know the war was going to begin based on as you entered to do soon within a few hours of the war beginning with the french and american striking libya they had already violated the narrow terms of the un resolution and now it looks like libya is simply being bled they've been a hundred days about decks twenty four thousand sorties but you know there's a very gradually being followed bleeding over libya to the extent where the fuse ally and then defect to the most of whose god has said libya is being made into what he calls it giant so much the united states president has not over the last
12:18 pm
twenty years come to congress to seek authorization for a war they've been very poorly defined statements brought before congress the same thing in the punished if the united states had probably gone to war in afghanistan then it may not have been so be a about the legality for instance of killing osama bin ladin. well get more news stories and features on our web page archie dot com has the latest interviews and analysis and here's what's there for you at the moment director michael apted known for his work in the protocols of narnia a blog a blockbuster meets artie to discuss what makes a good movie. and the only crew member to survive a plane crash that killed forty seven people in northwest russia last week explains how she made it out alive. but the crew that returned for b. international space station last month have been holding their traditional meeting at russia's star city just outside moscow. and went along as well to meet up with
12:19 pm
flight engineer cady coleman who became famous for a somewhat unique performance on the station. for six months and if your experiments you've been playing your flute. living and working out. you know back here on earth i just want to ask you about some of the everyday things that you have to cope with. flutes from in anderson. and also from the band the chieftains two hundred year old irish flute and also a ten whistle and then and then once you get up there you want to share that and mr anderson came up with this a way to play a duet together it's been very popular across the world will just have a quick listen to to that recording of us. tell us a bit more about how you sorted out just the everyday things that we have to try
12:20 pm
and see i see the biggest inconvenience of not having gravity is that everything floats and that can be nice i mean i can move a thousand pounds round acquit me by myself and push it across the space station and put it in a new place and that floating around part it's not floating it's the. and somebody like me that was never the gymnastic queen you know high school can do all of those things and more and it's just really wonderful to fly. well let's check on some other international headlines this hour at least eight civilians three policemen have been reportedly killed in a suicide and gun attack on a hotel in the afghan capital kabul reports say militants wearing civilian clothes burst into the intercontinental while guests were having dinner at least one a militant blew himself up and several others on the roof after a shootout with police or the four hour standoff was ended by an airstrike from
12:21 pm
a nato helicopter and the taliban has claimed responsibility for. the egyptian government has ordered an investigation into quassia so over the last few days in cairo over one thousand people injured police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse as the crowds the protesters were angry at the slow pace of prosecution for police officers accused of brutality for the past uprising in february that revolution put an end to president hosni mubarak's thirteen year old girl. a russian orphans face a tough childhood but being at adult could be even worse but government legally has to provide housing for anyone leaving care but as peter all over reports that often it doesn't happen. and. he looks more like a prime candidate for demolition than a family home births twenty two year old mother of two lena has been told by social
12:22 pm
services that she stuck or. perhaps they haven't seen this place inside they keep telling us true parents somehow believe here they showed me a paper on how to build a house i told them that i had no phones i had no job i had to take care of kids and i ended up renting a place they said it's not our problem and lena grew up in an orphanage in the city of tire under russian law she should have received state housing once she left the institution. was given to nina's mother by the state and despite having no money she's been told. well. there's a tradition of slippage of spirit they didn't give me work because i don't have a profession for them i don't exist perhaps hanging myself would be the best thing to do. without even the most basic of a mean at least there's no way of living found here however here is exactly where your thirty's are told her that she should bring up her children i mean his case
12:23 pm
isn't unusual those who work with oftens in russia say that it's when they leave the care homes they need the most help the problem is a car things are cuter and smaller you know they're little and everybody loves to help their small with presents and that. whereas in actual fact they've got bigger needs but they get bigger and that's really where we need to be standing beside them housing is one of those big in need for orphans leaving care it's also in short supply and. we need certain calculations for one region and found out that if a child is number ten thousand in the queue for housing it would take them some three and a half thousand years to actually get a flat how can they live like this they're not pharaohs you know we can't bring them back from the dead and give them an apartment is currently only administrative penalties can be imposed on anyone standing in the way of those leaving care
12:24 pm
getting housing alexander gears a lot of film all for himself as a campaigner for orphans rights he wants to see the courts more involved he will have like him a third of what we need to change the law in a way to make sure that someone can be held responsible in court in this case the orphanage will make sure that there is no way graduating orphan would have to go and live in a rundown home a change in the law might help people in the future but lena needs to find a solution right now. i ask him all the mothers are given homes to raise their children why can't i have that is because i don't know the laws or because i'm not allowed to live because it's forbidden for me to have family some people are trying to help me but so far their efforts have been in vain. these are all over. to their region and now let's cross over to our business desk for more business news with.
12:25 pm
access to hello and welcome to business r.t. the rivalry of the two russian stock exchanges is over. but the final seal of approval on their merger it's a big part of government efforts to improve russians financial infrastructure and start transforming moscow in some global financial center as moving the cost of records. selling sealed and delivered to i now want and it's not the beginning of a bright new future for russian markets the deal means the end of this being the years of better competition between our two yes and my sense we can actually. be able to share market value over the counter market. the places with which i'm sure russia which is the idea is to make most of more attractive to investors to boost liquidity on the market and create as solid centralized and good but infrastructure which will attract more foreigners on their own that it's going
12:26 pm
to be a technically reliable platform which will make it easier for investors to access the merged boards will have more influence over law making decisions making the market more comfortable for international investors. you know critics say you don't want to exchange could lead someone locally which could affect the cost of doing business or also they say that less competition could mean are less and the race at the same time other experts say that this could go a long way in helping the government in establishing moscow as a global financial center all the force which doesn't have a name yet is expected to be up or morning by the end of this year and i.p.o. is prime for its twenty third seed worth about one billion dollars. well as checked for your real pool says right now european markets are rallying following greece's approval for posterity measures banking shares of posting strong gains commerzbank being one of the painters one black some barclays is gaining around four percent on

the front seat as mining stocks rally continues therefore on u.s. markets only optimism about the reduced risk greece's default financials are in the bank of america of more frequent two percent. now for a closing picture of one sees trade in russia similar picture or not shouts yes up one percent my six not a percent these are mostly also driven by financial stocks d.t.b. gaining four percent at the close and you majors were also high one percent band in the mining sector the measure was seeing a lot of selling the stock was that it's low is that the close in more than a month that's despite the company almost quadrupled in its net profit in the first quarter of the year reaching three hundred nine million dollars. profit as a media event as outlined budget guidelines for the next two years the social tanks for business will be reduced but instead the burden will grow for the gas industry analysts say it's quite an unusual speech for pre-election period because it has
12:28 pm
outlined tax increases. it has been a long story about the government i would just try to approach that includes all four inches on the phone call that come explore for gas and get this problem always had enough arguments defend its positions and finally like what they managed to say you can call them force on force their decision at least as i see it as a secret only because as a senior executive president and i'll send. it in it's a budget address i suppose but the big issue is solved. the selling of state assets and revenues from oil and gas will also be used to make up for the budget deficit spending a lot of support it interesting alcohol and tobacco excise as the government wanting less and the negative social impact of that consumption. and come up next on the headlines with that girl.
