search effort this is screening the area where the area river pleasure cruiser sank to try and find any people still in the water although that looks looking increasingly unlikely now or scattered on some of the small islands around where the boat sank we heard from one of their spokesman earlier about what they found when they reached the scene of the sunken pleasure cruiser we knocked on the boats whole and waited for an answer but unfortunately there was not the flashlights and the cargo holds and the restrooms and the supplies there. the scene that unfolded yesterday was one of a quiet sunday afternoon river cruise along the volga many many people do this is very popular among tourists in the summer to travel along the folder in pleasure cruisers upstream was its final destination and then around two pm the ship got into difficulties and whatever happened this ship actually sank within three minutes it was such

a fast sinking that the chaos that ensued on board caused much of the problems that we see now. there were many children on board the ship it seems maybe a third of the passengers. on board the ship were children just hours just before the ship began to sank sink a group of about thirty children had gathered on one of the upper decks in the play room to hold either a party or gathered to play together in the play room a lot of the eyewitnesses reported that those children because there were so many of them in various parts of the ship they struggled to get out and some of the eyewitnesses accounts have been extremely harrowing. families torn apart in the struggle to try and escape into the water not even time for people to put their life jackets on on the sun some families even having to leave their own children behind on the sinking ship or the with of the vessel sank within three minutes it

flipped to the right swerved and went down we were literally thrown out that's how we survived our whole family was on that ship we lost everybody my wife and grandchildren two vessels have passed by and didn't even care to stop and reach out a helping hand we spent around two hours in the water before we were rescued i swam around searching for any survivors and couldn't find any body if there were a lot of children on the ship a wall in the games room it was impossible for them to get out of there my grandson would be five years old tomorrow we went on this trip to celebrate his birthday. if you would think of it is that people basically buried alive as if in the middle soko forgets we managed to get through the windows i was there with my ten year old daughter i couldn't risk her she swallowed too much water when it was a realised my child was absent we don't know where to look for survivors there were a lot of children and were even more than ever my only kid ran into me and my

husband to three minutes before the she'd stand and told us please we'll live checketts as the vessel assembly and i couldn't believe it. me think we are telephoning everyone trying to learn anything about our dear ones we called the police but they said to contact the search and rescue service we did but there was no reply so we came here to find out at least something but even here nobody knows anything. it's horrible we haven't the slightest knowledge of what's going on they should give the police some information where calling the search and rescue service i don't answer the phone when people were able to get off the ship into the water they found that their troubles were in full. far from over the point of which the ship sunk was three kilometers from the nearest bank and the river the river there the volga is immensely wide is around ten kilometers wide at that point so anyone in the water would have an awful job trying to get to the bank some of them may

have sheltered on the small islands around the ship and waited there and the search is still ongoing for them but it's clear that many of the people especially children who got into the water may have drowned in the rivers strong currents but soon after the ship sank a lot of the people in the water were very dismayed to see two ships pass by them or not pick up anyone it's not quite known why that was yet a third ship did arrive and did start to pick people up we can hear from someone who was on board that ship now. we were passing by and who being alone a man overboard we need usually started to rescue boats on to the water areas saying so we can eat couldn't. see everybody up in the water it's a lucky coincidence moved gary because two other ships didn't even stop to help. us upwards of a hundred people are still missing and the human tragedy this is unfolding here is

far from over on the banks or in the water of people here on the banks that are waiting we try to speak to them they really don't want to speak to cameras they're holding their heads down in silence they are in agony waiting for any possible news a very relative and they're terrified that their relatives are never going to be heard from again. from battle reporting there still no official accounts as to why the ship went down recovery efforts are underway at the site of the disaster details on the progress of the operation cost to our correspondent it's run over now. what are officials saying about this really holding out hope of finding anyone else and. well what we're hearing is that right. it's all still continuing however following the grisly discovery of around one hundred bodies trapped under water to people just couldn't get off the boat the process of removing those bodies is
