a few issues here the u.n. world food program has said it's really really difficult and in many cases unable to reach more than two million somalis at risk of starvation because they're in areas controlled by the militant group al-shabaab now in other ways people there are being forgotten. united states used to be the top aide provider for somalia and now ranks seven charity two is the senior communications officer for the united nations high commissioner for refugees charity i want to talk about the situation in somalia i guess i just want to start i have a you give us an overview of some bullet points of what people should know about the situation there ok so it's been about six seasons of drought in in the southern and central area of somalia which has led to a particular tipping point that we're seeing now some of the violence after the first of the year increased a lack of access to some of the areas that you referenced earlier and so because people there hasn't been

a lot of access to the area thousands and hundreds of thousands of people have been fleeing and walking for three to four weeks at a time to get to two different camps in kenya and ethiopia so we're looking at a volume of three thousand people every day registering at these camps and the number increased threefold from from may to june and they just keep increasing so as this has gotten some international and domestic attention there is a greater movement inside of somalia to get more aid but as you know there are areas that it is difficult. i mean why in two thousand and eleven with technology the way it is that with travel the way it is. there are a lot of places in this country where people have more than enough why the suffering still go on like this to this level today you know there's whenever there's conflicts there's food security issues and the two really go hand in hand

if you look at the history of somalia and this had situations been going on for over twenty years the u.n. peacekeepers were removed from the region in the mid ninety's and that led to increased instability and so you have a very. government you have a desert and. not necessarily a priority by a lot of the world leaders and so you have a weak state it's a difficult question to answer you mentioned a little earlier you know there is some attention being brought to this but i would say for the most part this is a story that is not making you know the lead on any sort of newscast in america this is not being paid attention to i mean certainly the situation in norway that happened over the weekend very tragic and horrible but the numbers of the people that were killed there pale in comparison to the number of people dying every day in somalia so why is that we're not looking at this with

a serious eye and giving it some serious attention. i think in many ways foreign policy has not focused on this area of the world and you know as a humanitarian and humanitarian representing humanitarian agency we're not a political institution so i can't give you the deeper just into that would be inappropriate but the situation that they are facing now has been something that has just steamrolled into this and and i think that we have to pay attention hundreds of mothers are losing three or four children on their way to ethiopia and one nation for the drop in aid by the u.s. the u.s. has been one of the biggest contributors to kenya and ethiopia. and yemen our humanitarian assistance from the u.s. has not went down inside of somalia and many countries have withdrawn aid because of the security situation and just happened they are well you want to know where your money is going you know there's the whole guns and butter issue and these

these outreach efforts need to be met with accountability and it hasn't it's been problematic in that area and so we're almost out of time that's solutions. more funding coming in i think that there has to be a longer term humanitarian solution inside of somalia which we are seeing increasing thank you so much for coming in and speaking about this very important issue charities whose senior communications officer with the united nations high commissioner for refugees. well let's turn now to the latest on the terror attacks in oslo norway we want to take a deeper look into the man who says he's behind these attacks which so far have killed at least seventy six people thirty two year old anders behring breivik appeared in a closed session of court today he has admitted he was behind the attack on norway's capital and of the massacre at a youth camp and simultaneously has denied criminal guilt he believes themselves

even to be a european hero and wrote a fifteen hundred page manifesto in which some interesting things have come out essentially that this is a person filled with hate and with extremely racist ideas he says he wanted to start a revolution to inspire norwegians to retake their country from muslims and other immigrants he also seems to despise multiculturalism so what's interesting is that there are ideas that seem to stem back hundreds of years and have been reignited with the rebirth of the knights templar a branch of the freemasons brave who you're looking at right now he says he's a part of the freemasons and so we want to talk about this organization it is one with many many members who consider themselves to be morally superior and many of whom are also committed to bettering the world by any means necessary so here's a question was this an isolated incident or an ideology that we should start to take much more seriously it's got members like george washington andrew jackson and

started this so i so they are to blame. normally raising the debt ceiling i mean it's just routine i mean they've done it scores of times and there's seldom serves as anything but a chance for some of the members of congress to grandstand and complain about. the burdens on our grandchildren. very seldom does it come to a situation like this in my opinion i could be wrong and the republicans are using the opportunity. of the largest deficit which is of course historically large to use the debt ceiling all right and then. as if there's a way of attacking the social safety net. republicans. social safety net. is not merely expensive economically but don't think it's morally

then the effect will be even worse than anything anyone else has said it was effect will be because the present united states is simply not going to sit there while american power collapses while the dollar collapses he will simply use the. national security directive or the exactly order that president bush already has in place and he will declare a national emergency and he will set aside the debt limit and continue to issue debt in the federal reserve will continue to buy it and there won't be any change other than the power of the purse the leave the hands of congress and reside in the executive branch just has the power to declare war well so congress that obama said that that is off the table but you're right it could certainly be brought back

i want to talk about something else though we have been hearing figures like two point four trillion like four trillion dollars in terms of how much needs to be cut or either raised but here's an interesting one colleague of a boston university professor wrote in greenberg that to get our overall fiscal gap under control the us must cut spending or raise tax revenue by twenty trillion dollars over the next decade that is far more than the president or the house republicans have thought here what do you think about that that that we're not even scratching the surface even if we get this done. i doubt that. one would have to loot arab workers assumption the great grades. but i think all of this is just part of the political sphere and that was columnist and former reagan administration official official paul craig roberts all right so let's talk about what's going on in spain and people there have a reason to be very angry many young people there have no jobs and little hope of

favorite superhero that was at least the spirit at comic-con international the comic book convention in southern california people show up dressed as their favorite make believe character but while thousands play dress up there are some very graphic and painful problems lurking just footsteps away from the convention artie's remodel in their shows us the disconnect between comic book fans and the real world. well bombs explode and thousands of american troops continue to fight in the country's longest war another battle is happening here at home. it's a fight against the harsh realities of life. these days you'll never see this many people protesting the wars yet more than one hundred thousand people attending comic con the world's largest comic book convention this

is a costume party on steroids where the world's worries go out the window people how i wish i had was teleportation and who wouldn't want to be in themselves up from the harsh realities of today's america are just scared of. this life is a joke and it's. let's get a sweet release going. however life is no joke for a large segment of the u.s. population like these people living on the sidewalks just a few blocks from the convention we're in sunny san diego california a city known for its speeches and summer attractions it's also an area which is dealing with double digit unemployment and a growing homeless population but instead of focusing on these tough realities of life thousands of people from all over the world have the senate on this city this weekend in order to escape reality but i have to try to put a five hour every day to read the truth into

a different world. that i probably go crazy and any fears over the economy anything like that you are calling these interests you know the the bad land that i come from certainly has a stronger economy despite the distraction that goes to comic-con simcox in crusaders to have concerns over where our country is headed some of us think that maybe the apocalypse is coming out but then they think a i'm not afraid of anything maybe while thousands of people celebrate comic con with no fear millions of americans are truly fearful about losing their jobs homes or benefits during this great recession this convention is a place where people can be themselves by acting like someone else just have fun while steam releases. that's the worth of the internet and while most americans fret about politicians billet each number out a deal oh boy in the end the us just did fall easy to come here and take

a perfectly good explanation for this earlier i spoke to a man who calls himself james preacher he travels the country preaching his beliefs one of which is that women shouldn't play sports at all here's a look at his unique perspective. my viewpoint is that the women should not be own volved in the sports whatsoever at all and what instead it should women be doing well the scriptural if surfer they're looking a lot of people do not understand the scriptures or even reverence the scriptures today as we did not find three hundred years ago north and so i know you're a working position but the scriptural position for a woman according to titus two and first amendment to was to be a keeper at home to take care of her husband and her children let's bring this back to the original discussion of sports and you know it so you say your argument is that women should not be playing sports in the first place. and there are other reasons you. said they are an exercise. exercise would not be wrong in the

privacy of their home or in a place where they're dressed and decently and that's another problem i have all other sports but also tells us that women should be modest some of the dress that should be there or in their actions in much of the apparel i mean there's cheerleaders in the way the cheerleaders for us are indecent by god's standards i believe in the idea of a woman well around playing basketball and doing this to be a stand in for the duel of the sports teams it's induced the themes of two thousand and eleven i mean how many i don't know how many people do you have that are actually you know following your your word obviously you're married certainly i would imagine that your wife agrees with you which things very strange to me as a you know kind of a i guess you might describe me as a modern day one at least by your standards you go around the country preaching do you have people who actually subscribe to what you're saying when the number one limited statement leaves you question just a moment let's all get away from that number one recognize that in our society in
