9:30 pm
welcome back to the big picture on some arbonne coming up in this half hour we all know the right wing has no concrete evidence proving muslim affiliation in american terrorist acts so why would we possibly take advice let alone training from the former terrorist group which fell from the muslim public affairs council weighs in on this issue and wisconsin governor scott walker implements a new voter id law just in time will probably be his own recall election with fewer than a dozen cases of voter fraud actually found and prosecuted nationwide every year i always hysteria and why would scott walker want to prevent tens of thousands of
9:31 pm
poor urban elderly people and college students from voting. in the best the rest of the news last night a talk about how the islamophobia right wing in america has their fingerprints all over the norway terror attacks and how islamophobia are carrying out a strategy here in the united states to whip up fear against muslims take a look. here it is asian people for the american way just released a report of what they're calling the right wing playbook on anti muslim extremists . included in this report is a section titled eight key strategies employed by the right to inflame anti muslim sentiment and turning a treat and bigotry into political weapons so once the fear is established once we're all afraid that the muslims are going to take down our airplanes then you have to back it up with research which brings us to the second part of the right
9:32 pm
wing plan strategy to twist statistics and use fake research to prove the muslim throat. and strategy to using fake research especially fake experts but the right wing depends on most to turn us all into fearful zombies right wingers or at the only ones depending on fake experts so are the police take for example this guy. it was played a five hundred sixty thousand dollars in two thousand and nine to train counterterrorism officials which isn't a terrorism expert it's a right wing islamophobia who's compared is long to naziism said we should tap phone lines at mosques declare that islamic organizations are america's number one enemy and wind that islam and terrorism are inseparable yes this is the guy training our police officers now in light of the norway attacks in which we can all
9:33 pm
see firsthand the violence that islamophobia can cause the muslim public affairs council is pushing back against phony experts like should they released a statement saying it has turned his viewing of a speech into a career better training for police officers and first responders from poisonous individuals is not an effective method of training and will not properly equip them to keep our nation safe so how do we put an end to phony experts spreading hate joining me now to talk about this issue as all one hundred would tell government policy analyst with the muslim public affairs council a one hundred welcome back glad to be here tom so you've got i debated him two years ago on my radio program but at the time i had the impression that he was a former palestinian terrorist who had become a terrorism expert any written some kind of book and all this kind of stuff. everybody was taken very seriously who really is he and should we be taken seriously we should not be taking him seriously and the reason why is because he has the perry fraudulent story so he claims that he was an actual p.l.o.
9:34 pm
terrorist put in hold me and he planted a bomb and in jerusalem and that story actually did not check out in fact when c.n.n. had investigated and looked into his background and contacted officials at the bank with me where he claimed he had detonated this explosive they actually said they had no record whatsoever of doing it and furthermore when they talked to his own family to see whether or not he had been involved in. any sort of violent extremism they said no he never was at all so we basically have a house for. a half a million bucks. to train police that's only in one year we we would really be interested to see how much how many more years he's been doing this and how many more bucks has been awesome. that's incredible does the does the norway terror attack have any kind of important lessons for us. to make it's anti's eliminate speech absolutely and especially when we apply it to the context of law enforcement
9:35 pm
training what we can see now is that at best they provide incredibly misleading information to our front line officers and at best when we look at the case of the manifesto from this terrorist is that they provide intellectual enabling for any potential by an extremist activity according to analysis that we just put out yesterday one out of every ten internet citations he used in his fifteen hundred page manifesto came from islamophobia like will be chilled out like robert spencer who writes for jihad watch org pamela geller and people of that like well. stochastic terrorism is broadly defined as. well it's arguably what osama bin laden was doing sending out tapes and you know p.r. things in the hopes that some crazy person out there would then become a terrorist and it was just like remote control terrorism without
9:36 pm
a direct link right and and you know activating long wars or right wing islamophobia in the united states promoting to cast of terrorism i wouldn't necessarily know if they're trying to actively recruit people but i would certainly say again is that they are providing a very very toxic environment where the moral threshold for these kinds of acts is significantly lower. progressively as this discourse becomes much more pervasive in our society and we really need to have a reality check for ourselves both here and abroad and really start to say we need to stop the hate and snap back to reality what are your thoughts on the norwegian prime minister and his foreign minister also given to our today about how you know we're not we're not afraid we're not going to shut our society we're not you know we're going to actually become more inclusive we're going to brace muslims here in norway we're going to we're going to you know and then they're having press
9:37 pm
conferences like literally out the open it's a very matter for it's a very enlightened and also a very smart world view because he sees two things out of this number one is that the rule of law it helps to make their nation strong and if we here in the united states as well look at our tradition we abide by the rule of law it is also help to keep our nation safe and secure and then the second thing is that he's recognizing that the diversity that is continuing to grow within norway is also contributing to the strength of the country and that's also been the case here in the united states and when we fail to recognize those two key lessons then it's really putting the very fabric of our nation in an enormous strain at jeopardy so. it seems like we've done that i mean this is this is what i wish to argue with jamie and daniel about that george bush violated the rule of law repeatedly and then modify the rule of law in the united states to make us a more fearful nation the opposite of what our always doing how do we walk that
9:38 pm
back or should we well i think we do need to walk if you're factor back because in here within the word terrorism is terror and there is a very strong psychological component more than even about creating dead bodies is the fact that they're trying to change the way that we as a nation act scaring us and cowering into some sort of fearful act but if we are able to stand up to terrorism not just by arresting them but also by. deterring their ideas by deterring their fear. then i think we really then making some serious headway against al qaeda but until we can take away the fear factor al qaeda will continue to have an enormous leverage over our nation because it doesn't take much for them then to continue to change the character of our nation fundamentally against that way and we have a good lesson learned from norway a one hundred thanks so much for the update and very much time to see it again let's hope we learn some lessons from norway and start cracking down on the for
9:39 pm
favors of a right here in the united states. news out of wisconsin voters are screwed by many republican governors around the nation governor scott walker jammed a restrictive voter id law through his state legislature earlier this year requiring people to show a driver's license or other form of photo id in order to vote the sorts of laws have been proven to disenfranchise poor people elderly people college age voters who don't drive a car and who also tend to vote for democrats walker argues this isn't about politics it's about curbing voter fraud which is a non-issue that happens less often than people getting struck by lightning but unlike other republican governor scott walker is really going one step further to really screw over the voters in the state walker's now closing d.m.v. offices around wisconsin making it even harder for people to get photo i.d.'s that are now needed to vote and guess which d.m.v.
9:40 pm
office is closing the ones in democratic areas of course and he's expanding hours in d.m.v. offices in republican areas but even if you're lucky enough to still have a d.m.v. nearby in wisconsin get ready for a hassle take a look at this undercover video taken by someone in wisconsin attempting to get a photo id earlier this week in order to vote as the video of the church you're going to see. i know it is the use that we need to see your kitty now. it's the balance as the video shows you have to give up your bank records after you have to look over your banking transactions and you have to pay thirty bucks to get the id that is unless you know to say that you need it just for voting in that case it's free but don't expect the d.m.v. to let you in on this little secret. would you ask them would you say is this voting for the church. it's you know one of them. that you need to really be good with the investments you're. going to make it's
9:41 pm
going to affect the people so if it's going to do it for free but if. we don't know that they're going to use it why don't you have it as a quote. your supervisor why don't you ask people what is the sort of thing you know is this a chief liberty or is it for something to put it on here and that's it is so is the state statute. particularly answering machine so is this the way democracy should work in america jump through hoops first at the d.m.v. or we've seen voter disenfranchised in this enfranchise when at its finest and scott walker's wisconsin his offer his take on the issue is horace cooper member of the conservative project twenty one black leadership network commentator an adjunct fellow with the national center for public policy research morris welcome thanks for having me on again thank you for joining us. from the conservative point of view. are two horrified by this what i'm kind of horrified is the idea of the government bureaucracies like the d.m.v.
9:42 pm
and like the post office which function in an incompetent way or somehow walking him in love with a scheme to disenfranchise democrat voters i think that's laughable on its face the real question is is there a need for the public to be convinced that the votes that they cast are actually votes that are going to result in the decisions of who's going to lead them and what direction are going to go that's an important thing. for the public to feel so george bush declared a five year war and voter fraud mobilized massive public resources spent millions tens of millions of dollars have federal prosecutors in every state working on this thing and in those five years he succeeded in tracking down eighty eighty two people and of the seven arrests. allocations of double voting this is from the brennan center for justice truth about voter fraud they did this this twenty year analysis. the headlines more double voting tied to zero four elections double
9:43 pm
voting being investigated turns out in minnesota. and missouri from two thousand and two thousand two hundred were alleged to have double voted but after they actually investigated it four cases four cases in the entire state and you jersey the allegation was forty three hundred ninety seven people double voted turned out it was one when they when they found in new york they were alleghany thousands of thousands of voters it turns out that there were two i mean this is in wisconsin in two thousand and four dozens of votes were alleged to have voted twice no zero they when they finally tracked down dead voters in new jersey that had the headline was among voters new jersey g.o.p. says dead people turns out there were no dead people injured in new jersey voting in georgia in fact the republicans who claimed there are fifty four hundred twelve votes from people turned out it was zero i mean yeah you know i had gotten out i got i got page after page of this do you have any evidence you know it was scott
9:44 pm
walker is going to knock tens of thousands of people off the voting rolls in this concept is that worth saving the four or five flagyl in votes that might have been that have been prosecuted that state over the last twenty years ok the milwaukee county sheriff's office said that they did a study from two thousand and four to two thousand and eight and in the course of that study the air under the impression that the outcome statewide elections were impacted by fraudulent voting thoughts voting that all of. representations of various kinds anough that the number of participants could have shaped change the outcome of the vote and this day i do not overlap with any of you got more examples instead only isn't it they went to the district over the process went to the district attorney in the district attorney said because the state of wisconsin itself can't tell us how many actual registered voters they are because their systems are it is difficult for us to them prosecute the state of colorado if they had any evidence of an actual crime they would then not necessarily the case the state of colorado they found that there was
9:45 pm
a concentrated effort for illegal immigrants to participate and the number of people who voted in the two thousand and ten election or the number of non eligible illegal immigrants was greater than the margin of victory in the united states serially in south carolina just now just one hundred seventy eight thousand voters off the polls by the sport of writing well one hundred seventy thousand people in south carolina who are stupid on a car don't have a driver's license multi-generational they have never applied for a passport because they don't travel mostly poor people mostly urban people a lot of black people and one hundred seventy thousand s. nikki haley's number that's her government said south carolina is it worth not seen a one hundred seventy eight dollars wind off the. four or five people from illegally voting south carolina is a pre-clearance state and that requires the justice department which presently is run by mr obama to make sure that any changes that are going to go into effect will
9:46 pm
actually not restrict the ability of people to vote now there are a lot of these claims that are tossed up but it turns out and the supreme court has championed this notion that a voter identification is a form of voter integrity but ensures that voters understand that they are actually getting to choose who is going to make decisions for them and you know supreme court chief justice former seem to the chief justice rehnquist made his republican chops this climate justice party and. this is when he was sitting in his life in critical but what we will see is what is the posture of the department of justice when it comes to analyzing these kinds of issues now i am very confident that the department of justice is going to clear these states there are a number of them that are subject to preclearance and it's tragic but all these people for us thanks for dropping by thanks for having me on. despite a walker says this move is just about politics in my opinion anyway with republican state lawmakers facing six a coming recall elections and walker himself likely facing
9:47 pm
a recall next year so obvious the governor's doing everything he can to keep his job and tragically chipping away at the at the core of democracy itself in the process. coming up a daily take on how both political parties are getting a very important clause in the u.s. constitution and why we're all in danger because of. that drives the world the fear mongering used by politicians who makes decisions. made who can you trust no one who is your view with the global machinery to see where we had a state controlled capitalism it's called. when nobody dares to ask we do our tea question more.
9:48 pm
it's the good the bad of the very very terrorists legally they're good. at their annual convention yesterday the n.w.c. passed a resolution calling on america to end nixon's war on drugs president. ben jealous said these flawed drug policies that have been mostly enforced in african-american communities must be stopped and replaced with evidence based practices that address the root causes of drug use and abuse in america in other words we need to adopt a drug policy like the rest of the developed world that isn't wasting billions
9:49 pm
incarcerating people for getting itself the momentum for any new drug we're concerned. that. congressman randy new nuclear power the republican from texas who heads the house financial services committee is working to dismantle the wall street reform bill cutting off relief to victims of foreclosure and blowing up the new consumer financial protection bureau and why is he doing this well he explained his position in an internet radio interview. these agencies to to bureau so they just need a little dictatorships do you want this person who could carry through what they could do to you how much they could george euphoric. and if you don't want to be true there's really not much but you crossers to if you don't like courage you know . that's right the guy in charge of overseeing wall street just called wall street regulators little dictators still don't think republicans
9:50 pm
want the wall street to crash our economy again and the very very ugly sarah pailin yesterday the fox news and gubernatorial quitter and thoroughly defeated star of the movie undefeated lashed out at the president over his approach to. fortunately i think that the president is not capable of getting there right now said i think a lot. that lauri has to do with his background he having not been a part of the private sector are part of running a business or having to rely on making profit and investing according to the free market are for new or set priorities in order to grow a business and hire more people that it seems to be foreign to our president that's quite clever use a word in there by paul pale in the american economy seems to be fair to our president listen carefully and you can hear the dog whistle to all the birth there is out there a note from sears just buzzed and that's a very fair. this
9:51 pm
is not about the numbers this debt limit debate has seen its fair share of numbers tossed around five point one trillion two point seven trillion one point two trillion fourteen trillion lotsa mind boggling really high numbers that we can't really wrap our heads around but the numbers are what's important here is what's really behind the numbers that matters back in two thousand and six senator obama said this about the business in washington and what it means for average americans . just remember as we move forward that there are real consequences to the work that's being done here there are people in places like decatur illinois or galesburg illinois who have seen their jobs eliminated they've lost their health care they have lost their retirement security they don't have
9:52 pm
a clear sense of how their children will succeed in the same way that they succeeded so there are real consequences to the work that's being done here this is not a bloodless process. creating a budget is not a bloodless process as in when republicans cut out the federal budget people will get hurt cutting social security will hurt senior citizens cutting medicaid will hurt the sick in impoverished cutting food assistance will hurt poor families we're talking physical pain here lingering sickness starvation twenty two americans died in last week's heat wave supports the very same states it cut critical government programs to help low income families pay their electric bills heat stroke is real pain and the republicans know this that's why yesterday in an effort to rally their caucus behind more pain inducing budget cuts republican leadership in the house
9:53 pm
played this clip from the movie of the town take a look. i mean as you're out i can't tell you what it is you can never ask me about it later i'm going to hurt some people. i was going to. again this is a real clip but the real republicans played to their caucus to whip up support for their painful budget cuts you can't make this stuff up later in the movie those two characters you just saw go on to smash two guys with sticks and should another guy in the leg so who is on board to do the same to the american people sadly they both parties purity it looks more and more likely that it's only approach is going to resolve this debt limit fiasco given the republicans exactly what they want the knives to cut up the american people one of the most important clauses in our constitution is the general welfare clause in article one section eight it reads the congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes duties imposed and
9:54 pm
exercises to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the united states. congress will have the power to provide for the general welfare of the united states through it right there in our constitution and our founding fathers who wrote the general welfare clause knew exactly what it meant that's why george washington was the very first president to sign legislation authorizing funds to provide for housing food education and medical care to the poor in washington d.c. that's why john adams and thomas jefferson our second and third presidents continued that policy without a second thought that's why the first veto of our fourth president james madison and main author of the constitution was to kill a piece of legislation that moved the responsibility for caring and pain for the poor from the federal government to a church in d.c. that essendon believe the government should ever give money to churches for any purpose and that one of the most important jobs of the federal government was to
9:55 pm
catch those who fell through the social safety net we just need a message he said he was vetoing the bill quote because the build vests and said incorporated church and also authority to provide for the support of the poor and the education of poor children of the same carrying into effect a public and civil duty not a religious duty that a sin was in fact he goes on at some length in his veto message i encourage you to check it out you can easily google it and i really just due to a civic a civic duty it's our duty we the people through our government a public and civil civic or civil duty to care for the general welfare. and members of the democratic party thomas jefferson founded continue to promote the general welfare of america when for example franklin roosevelt passed the new deal or when lyndon johnson created the great society and cut poverty in afternoon ited states and for years the republicans have always
9:56 pm
a good general welfare they opposed the new deal they opposed medicare they filibustered things like unemployment benefits food assistance programs and now they're out rageous demands in the debt limit debate republicans with their libertarian and agenda read the general welfare clause differently than the founding fathers did they think the best way for the government to promote the general welfare is to get the hell out of the way and leave it up to the mythical free market the billionaires and the transnational corporations to promote the general welfare health insurance corporations that use death panels to determine if your organ transplant will hurt their bottom line like will corporations the spew of crude all over our oceans and suffocate us with the missions as they laugh all the way to the bank with their record breaking profits like banks and gamble with our money and crash the economy and use the great promoters of the general welfare according to republicans not the government. in the past democrats used to hold the
9:57 pm
line they used to keep the general welfare clause protected from the grubby hands of the republicans wanted. but today in both the house and the senate as well as the white house trashing those general welfare democrats are hard to find republicans never like that mandate that the founders put into the constitution that our government must protect and provide for the general welfare of all the people and now even a few democrats have forgotten what it means when they say they're willing to compromise on core values like social security and medicare and some real democrats don't stand up soon and remind the rest of our lawmakers exactly what our founding fathers intended when they wrote the general welfare clause in the constitution and republicans are going to get away with hurting millions of americans as soon as they figure out what car to make their get away with as the big picture for tonight for more information on the stories we covered visit our web sites at tom hartman dot com free speech dot org and archie dot com also check out our two youtube
