to go. run to the kennel was hotel retreat. on r t the us deal on raising the national debt ceiling is facing a vote in congress but critics say the new compromise won't solve america's financial problems of its reputation is going down the drain. plus the u.s. and the e.u. stepped up their push for more sanctions against syria after a crackdown on protesters reportedly left more than one hundred people dead moscow says violence on either side of the country's conflict is unacceptable. on fire again as troops in cairo clashed with demonstrators demanding fast changes after february's revolution.
5:03 pm
near a moscow kevin you're watching r.t. and first u.s. lawmakers are gearing up to vote on an emergency deal to raise the country's debt ceiling and avoid potentially devastating default it was finally struck after weeks of stalemate and political wrangling between democrats and republicans. across developments in the u.s. capitol for. lawmakers did finally hash out a deal party leaders with the white house the house of representatives is expected to vote this evening of course the house is a little bit more tricky there's a lot more folks over there and in order to get this legislation to pass the republican leader john boehner will actually need two hundred and sixteen votes he does not have that from his own party a lot of conservatives say frankly the cuts in this deal just not enough for them and so in order to get this legislation to pass in order to prevent the u.s. from a first ever default they will need at least sixty six democrats to sign on board
5:04 pm
and now we've seen actually the vice president joe biden has been dispatched to capitol hill this afternoon to sort of tell democrats you got to get behind this you know this isn't a raw deal for you a lot of those folks are criticizing the legislation because they say hey there's no revenue raisers we can't get enough money through this deal in order to pay for all of our obligations and now of course the senate the other chamber here in the u.s. congress is also expected to vote on this the timing is a lot more tricky on this but the majority leader harry reid does expect for some sort of vote this evening there is a lot of criticism in standard and poor has said that they might not they might not be willing to keep the u.s. prize aaa rating as it is regardless of what comes out of this they don't think the cuts go deep enough and quite frankly this kind of last minute negotiating really taking the nation to the brink of default right against the clock is it's not a positive sign for the markets for other financial watchers it's quite an embarrassment here in the u.s.
5:05 pm
and please let's we all have to keep in mind that this whole debate over the debt limit it really is about previous spending spending that the united states has already agreed to make it does not address the bigger deficit problem and the long term picture of the long term fiscal health of the united states while the compromise group in washington which is to read catastrophe and food it might not be enough to persuade ratings agencies to let america keep its precious aaa credit score from. the blues whatever the outcome of the vote will reap the rewards of the crisis. all of the proposals on the table all. debt and that's the basic underlying theme the u.s. treasury bond market will be downgraded it will no longer carry the aaa rating no matter what they decide and this is exactly what wall street banks want you don't make much money trading aaa rated u.s. government debt spreads
5:06 pm
a very high and there's not much money to be made traders on wall street what i call the nine eleven crybabies like jamie diamond or lloyd blankfein they want the u.s. dead downgraded to if they can dump junk status because you could make a lot more money trading junk the spreads are huge more volatility more money for blankfein and diamond who for ten years have been getting all of the money they've extorted from government whether it's hank paulson back in two thousand and eight or now or barack obama who is just a puppet of wall street extorting once again for free handouts free money again for the too big to fail banks and this is going the way of all these other countries of saying where they've downgraded the debt great for bankers great for fees great for christmas bonuses this year for the kids but unfortunately horrible for anyone living in these countries where the american public is having their worth decimated by wall street banks and j.p.
5:07 pm
morgan and goldman sachs are to america's middle class what buffalo bill was to the buffalo population in america they're interested in wiping them out it's foolish to think of this in terms of republicans versus democrats this is about savers averse a speculator speculators want interest rates at zero percent and they want u.s. treasury bonds a junk savers who are not getting any return on their investments because interest rates are zero are buying gold which is about to hit another new all time highs in currencies around the world they're buying silver that's what the silver vigilantes are doing. because they realize that the american kleptocracy and the folks on wall street the american public by the juggler and they've got to keep squeezing until they end up putting another fifty or sixty million of people permanently into poverty and just destroy this economy for the purpose of making a quick buck these people are financial terrorists which includes blankfein and diamond and what
5:08 pm
a barack obama needs to do if you're working in the interest of the people would be to nationalize j.p. morgan and goldman sachs immediately fire these crooks and start all over again because you've got a predatory monopolist down there on wall street is interested in wiping out the middle class for a quick buck and that is tyranny. these marks keyser america's possible to folds resonated far and wide russia's prime minister says that the current deal struck by u.s. lawmakers will not solve the underlying issues that ima putin believes that raising the ceiling yet again only perspire would inevitable problems. actually there's nothing good about it just postponed making more systemic decisions this colossal down at fourteen trillion normal means of the country has been living on credit which is really bad for one of the world's leading economies means they live beyond their means and put a part of that burden on the entire world's economy to some extent they sponge on the world's economy and on them on

a political position this means that firstly on the reserve currency should show up in the world not just the dollar but of the euro should be consolidated and you should come up with a regional reserve currencies the ruble can become a regional reserve currency. a secular bit of some other news egyptian troops have clashed with protesters who are camping out in the center of cairo hundreds of demonstrators were cleared away from tahrir square where they've been gathered for weeks now to demand faster reforms after february's revolution michelman professor of modern history at oxford university says egyptians are ready for another uprising because they see too much of the old regime in the new one. the secular opposition so-called are unhappy with the changes since mubarak rylan they feel that the military government in practice is a continuation of the old regime and also they wanted has not been done was a danger to us as well we could see this attempt to clear the square may well provoke more protests more violence between iran and the other hand it also may be
5:10 pm
a sign that the government wants to use ramattan as a month to calm the situation before we're supposed to have elections in eight weeks time now that could of course provoke more protests we could see as we've seen in other parts the arab world the expectation that you mean evening after the end of fasting people won't just break their hearts but also demonstrate what we could see the government thinking that this will be an opportunity to crack down some support from people who feel they've had enough demonstrations in cairo that you have a kind of weariness of the demonstrations but of course there are many people who feel that if they stop demonstrating then the hope for change would also die. several nato states are threatening action against syria with the un security council said to hold an emergency meeting on the situation he comes as residents of the city of hama a report of the army has resumed shelling residential areas after more than one hundred people were killed on sunday according to local reports russia has condemned the violence in syria calling a both the government and opposition to cease conflict and abide by the law
5:11 pm
meantime the e.u.'s expanding sanctions on damascus professor joshua landis from the university of oklahoma told me earlier that sanctions may not work as they end up targeting the people rather than the government. as ramadan comes and the opposition said that every day would be friday we the government is clearly trying to take control of how much and doesn't want to become a site or perhaps a new military expert grow up the free syrian military or a new political order the west feels it needs to do something it doesn't want to stop trade you know we've tried sanctions in iraq in iran libya they haven't worked very much and when they have work they starve the people and not the government and that's the danger of sanctions it's the feel good because you feel like you're doing something and you could tell the opposition you're on their side but in fact they are going to hurt the people you don't want to hurt military intervention
5:12 pm
economic sanctions may do no good can the world stop syria from going through this these convulsions i'm not sure it can. coming up on hour two with me kevin though in this hour rewriting history veterans of hitler's cracked truth rally in a stove the big bad in other countries it stirred fears of revive that c. is in europe as we report it will be later on folks you know israel thousands of taken industrial action in tel aviv in protest against the government the strikes have followed a weekend of massive demonstrations over rising house prices and then the escalating cost of living people demanding social justice and better working conditions of these paul asli is there for us following the latest in tel aviv. israelis are mobilizing on the streets of tel aviv tonight my day for another demonstration against the government although the numbers on my feet to reach the tens of pounds and never witnessed over the week in the demonstrations much the

same as it has been over the pasta not complete the minds mobilized on line grievances against these maybe government's economic policies of course but the israeli prime minister bibi netanyahu to resign as well as for a regime change now short time ago the israeli president shimon peres smith but some of these protest organizers he initiated the meeting in city wanted to see what the grievances were and fighting that leads me to say that what needed to be changed would be change and very different mistakes compared to what the feeling when the time not happened it's now been solved has been pretty much over these protests since they began and we know that he is pushing for a council to be passed as quickly as possible this is a call that looks at the rock the siege around the stuff so. it is not the spokesperson saying that means demonstrations were out of proportion and that is really putting me with sound and healthy having said that though the director general of the finance ministry the science that's announcing this is

israeli social movement the national left says dissatisfaction over rising house prices is no grown into a nationwide discontent with the government. i think people long ago have seen more and more legislation moves that benefits the rich or benefit upper class and basically worsen the status of that of the middle class the middle class is suffering now in the middle class are the voters and when you go against them yes they will rise up against the government this current government is not. the answer to what we're looking for it's neoliberal economic. measurements and way of thinking is benefiting the wrong people it's benefiting the six strong families in the israeli economy and not benefiting the people so i think this current government and its prime minister is not the answer to what we're looking for this demonstration is moving day by day living it one day at

now which is one of the most difficult problems in the region the west responded negatively to the statements and the actions of the syrian government on the use tightening of sanctions against syria the un resolution has been used to probe the situation for the possibility of military intervention part higher the chances that western countries will indeed unleash a military comparing against syria when we realize that city is going through a very difficult stage of development similar to a few other countries in the region and internal civil conflict between the government and part of society political social and economic problems hard arguer of ated both in terms of numbers and complexity we think the best way to deal with these problems is a nationwide dialogue combined with crucial political social and economic reforms we also call in the sitting government to keep their promises and live up to the hopes and aspirations of the people there were adequately express during the mass rallies that russia has refused to even discuss the draft resolution on syria

proposed by france what is the reason behind such a tough stance especially with regard to the fact that moscow did not stonewall the un security council resolution on libya are there any other ways of resolving the syrian crisis when there are international help. we believe that the city and should address their problems as part of their domestic agenda this is an internal civil conflict and it should not be internationalized as for the situation in libya of course every country is unique in terms of its particular situation the background of its conflict the form and the scale of public protest etc on the other. and we should learn our lessons this is the first the un resolution on libya you've mentioned we are all witness to it and we still see it not for the number of international players tend to digress from the strict observation of both the instructions and the spirit of these resolutions therefore we are not really concerned that such loose interpretations could only result in making some of the opposition circles tighten their position and opt for a tougher approach which is by no means opposed of achievement in terms of finding

a mutually acceptable solution europe is becoming increasingly wary and disappointed with nato military campaign in libya the conflict shows no sign of ending the plight of the civilian population is deteriorating radically what measures would you consider necessary for the conflict and parties and the international community to take in order to bring about a solution both and political and humanitarian terms but from the very start we have urged the parties in the conflict to cease all military action declared a truce and work at a sustainable solution for peace in libya in order to kick start the process of political reconciliation in this regard we have highly appreciated the contribution of the african union which prepared a rude mouth for reconciliation in libya the u.n. secretary general's envoy for libya is also contributing a lot to this process having come up with a number of additional settlement proposals addressing both military and political aspects along as we discuss events in this region we can't avoid touching upon its key problem i mean the palestinian issue new generations of israelis and

palestinians have maturity since the middle east peace process was watched but we still haven't seen any fusible progress and negotiations would you say this is a deadlock or is there a way to get the peace process on track and what would it require. i think that everybody realizes that the palestinians and israelis are bound by day sneed itself to live side by side as you know russia advocates establishing an independent palestinian state as soon as possible for the state to live alongside israel maintaining peace and security we are committed to this purpose both as a permanent member of the security council and as an octave participant of the middle east quartet there was a ministerial meeting of the quartet in washington recently which featured a very specific detailed discussion of the situation with regard to the palestinian israeli truck we are certainly concerned with the negotiation been stalled at the moment who still hope that both parties will find a way to agree on resuming the talks with a view to establishing an independent palestinian state as soon as possible and to
