house. all right so the clips that we just played out on the hip-hop barbecue had line i think we've made a pretty strong convincing and compelling case that fox news is trying to tell us something our president is black and that apparently is very very bad so for that we're giving fox news tonight's tool time award for their ridiculously races hip hop barbecue headline. but we keep talking to average americans that are angry frustrated fed up with their government and today we actually have some new polls to show just how much that discontent has grown according to a new c.b.s. new york times poll eighty two percent of americans now disapprove of the way the congress is handling its job that is the largest number on record since the times began taking a poll in one thousand nine hundred seventy and when asked if members of congress deserve reelection next year given what americans have seen seventy five percent said no so every poll you obviously have to take with

a grain of salt but when three quarters of the population doesn't want to reelect the representatives you'd think that would make politicians want to run out beg for their forgiveness but they're not doing so should these threats be taken seriously or despite their discontent well americans always just return to the polls and vote those representatives right back in joining me is reason t.v. reporter michelle fields michelle thanks so much for being here tonight and thanks so much for having me on for we get into these polls what it says about americans discontent with their government right now i have to bring up your interview with matt damon for a reason t.v. because this is become a you tube sensation and the media has been talking about it it's really reignited the debate over teachers and well let's remind the audience what it looks like. there's an incentive to work hard and be a better actor because you want to have a job so why isn't it like that for a teacher it's not an incentive that's the thing so you take this m.b.a. . right it's the problem with it see right now is this intrinsically paternalistic

you problems that are much more complex than that i mean why else would you take a. really long hours unless you really love to do. do you know that was going to be a smashing success and that lawrence o'donnell would then go on an entire tirade after that video no it didn't but i think it's amazing we've been able to generate this discourse and debate and people are talking about school choice and people are realizing hey there is a problem with tenure and that teachers should be rewarded for the value that they create and for taking on challenging assignments instead of just based on seniority so it has and to be going so it's exciting but also this has a celebrity in it too i mean do you think about says a lot about this culture because i mean this state debate has existed for a long time it's been discussed in the media but do you think that it's really unfortunate that it takes somebody like matt damon to get people to start paying attention again wanting to talk about of again well no i mean i think it's great that matt damon is passionate about this issue because this is an issue that now is

reaching a broader audience so funny thing i think it's wonderful that he's talking about this well one thing that we have another clip of matt damon where apparently he didn't show his his best side. no. ok but i mean maybe the camera man i don't. know we just had to play it was kind of funny at the end did you matt damon make up to the camera man about to make a yeah we talked about it but the thing that matt damon doesn't understand is if our camera man was underperforming he would be fired whereas with teachers with tenure it's so difficult to fire them it's time consuming it's expensive and what happens is these teachers just end up being transferred to another school what's called the dance of the lemon or they refer to as the just moving the trash passing over the trash so i mean this is so unfortunate we are protecting bad teachers at the expense of our children and you know unfortunately i think that probably

a lot of good teachers get stuck in the middle of that because right now we're seeing layoffs of teachers across the board in many states and there are a lot of people who probably do not deserve to be losing those jobs right now let's move on to these polls that i just mentioned right so eighty two percent of people disapprove of congress and now of course like i said you have to take every poll with a grain of salt can't assume that it represents every single american but that's a big number seventy five percent don't want to re-elect their representatives what does that tell you well actually i'm not surprised if anything i'm surprised that it took this long for there to be such a big disapproval rate this always happens whenever there are fights between branches of government and when there's this bickering going on back and forth that's covering the media and i mean it's not surprising there was a poll that just came out to that they asked americans what they thought of the debt ceiling debate and they used words such as disgusting stupid to describe this people are upset the economy has been bad and people are without jobs and they want something new they want to be different do you think that it's

a temporary feeling of a fleeting emotion you know you mentioned of course this always happens when there's a big ring when you see it on the media is in some other type of motional swell that we're seeing where people want real change and long lasting change no i do think that. this is something indicative of something larger i mean people are upset they're unhappy they see that republicans they're the ones who got us into the recession and others believe that you know will democrats are going to be just making this work so they're looking for something different now what do you think of the fact you like i mentioned there are seventy five percent of these people said that they don't think their elected representatives deserve to be reelected but will they actually act on that when it comes to voting when it comes to next november should they find new candidates are there enough new candidates or should they sit at home well we had a poll done out reason that showed that eighty percent of americans say that they'd be open to voting for a candidate from third party so i mean i don't know really if there is a candidate out there about viable third party candidate but i would love to see

there'd be more options rather than just the republicans and democrats because people are upset they're unhappy with both of you know when you say third party candidate are you talking about because let's say ron paul for example who's running for president he's not a third party candidate at the end of the day he still has to run under the republican ticket so as long as we still only have two parties and of course there are there is the green party there are a number of states that have other smaller parties but is it going to be too hard for anybody to break in for americans to find someone that is different to honest i don't see ron paul or carrie johnson going for the libertarian ticket and i don't see. the tea party breaking away from the republican party so it's unfortunate but i mean i wish we had more choices we have choice all over i mean you go to the coffee shop you have choice everywhere but when it comes to our government we only have two options and two really terrible options so why is that i mean you could say that right part of the problem is the system that of course it's expensive how many people can actually afford to run for office these days but do we have not enough people to actually want to be politicians i mean career politician doesn't

to tonight's fireside with your host comes. this week we saw the debt debate the made an embarrassing spectacle of this country finally come to an end catastrophe as the possibility of a default was described was averted and if anything it was corporations and the wealthy but what it was a loss for americans that append on a number of social programs including in title meant but guess who is already crying the loudest at their lifeline has been damaged and therefore panic and fear should set in for us all i guess that was kind of obvious it's the defense department the supposedly new defense department might i add under the new leadership of leon panetta so yesterday in his first press conference of secretary of defense panetta warned that the four hundred billion dollars in defense cuts

over ten years that are part of round one of the debt deal those are going to be tough enough now to fear that round two is going to result in a stalemate in the congressional supercommittee that would in effect lead to six hundred billion cuts. more now that trigger effect and i don't want to far as calling that a dooms day mechanism doomsday are you kidding me let's see we already spend more than the rest of the world combined on our military the military budget is more than doubled and in fact increased seventy percent by some statistics since two thousand and one and yet we're in trouble of doomsday have you seen the economy lately mr panetta have you seen the number of people that are unemployed that we now have the highest number of people on food stamps on record the fact that people can't put food on their tables or afford a roof over their heads is more disastrous to the well being of this country the loss of a few costly weapons programs that probably in the end won't even work with this new secretary of defense barely doesn't feel that way see he said that instead of slashing defense the bipartisan panel should rely on tax increases and cuts to

non-discretionary spending like medicare and social security so once again it's the perfect example but in order to keep our military industrial complex going forever and forever all of that money that you've been putting into your social security your entire life sorry that's going to go it's granny or it's the aircraft carrier the granny just isn't this sexy it's another discussing reminder of who and what matter to your politicians and probably another reminder that you can't believe anything that they hear do you ever before panetta was sworn in everybody was pointing to his credentials working at the congressional budget office as a sure sign that he was going to take on wasteful and bloated defense spending now obviously that's not going to happen and man he destroyed that myth in the very first press conference to he didn't even bother taking his time to let us all down easy let's also not forget that this is supposed to be a democratic administration and i connected at his words with the entire administration because he did so himself he in fact sent

a message out to the defense department personnel declaring that a cut of six hundred billion would be completely unacceptable to both him and the president so that probably means that whatever message he sent the president had signed off on himself now that's not what americans. this is not what this country needs to say say this is what defense contractor is a lobby for and when to let you in on one last bit of detail about the absurdity and panetta doomsday warnings you see in this debt deal republicans made sure to write into the initial four hundred billion in cuts doesn't come just from defense but from security as well that means homeland security border enforcement foreign aid and veterans benefits so you tell me when four hundred billion is going to be gods where is that going to be coming from not from bloated and wasteful military spending projects which we detail constantly on this show you know the ones that take twenty years to complete and they never even work you know it's going to be your troops that pay and then they're going to use that as a guilt meter to cry that defense cuts are so wrong but i just have to be that way

have to get a co-pay for it we've shown a couple clips on the on the show over the last week but sean hannity had to take on it as well last night take a look but again this is about women's health if you care about women's health care about women's you know how to look at least. this you know about if you in the cells can stop expecting other people to be responsible for every minute aspect of your life in this nanny state that you want to create why should we pay for biafra because that will use of terms of medical for the affordable care act i would i'm going to jointly as one of my control is a medical problem versus what is to have sex. are also i what my problem is with this because of course some people have we're just talking about there's some type of you know moral problem when it comes to birth control but sean hannity is just saying that that is a choice and vi agora is not a choice but that's a stupid because you're choosing to use birth control in sean hannity's mind because you want to have sex i don't understand why you would use vi agora unless

you are choosing to have sex exactly he's talking about whatever it's called erectile dysfunction is a medical problem that vi agora is the solution for that creates the problem of pregnancy which you should be able to get birth control for. i think i think i like or you just go with. the the problem with how hannity put it is that he was he was really clear right so. you know that there is a lot of the really of the really important part is that catholics have a moral objection to using birth control just for any reason and you cannot you should not force by law because it is against the constitution you should not force by law people to pay into a system that will pay for birth control just period that's that's just the law but you know you should not be you should not be able to do that i just wonder though how many things you know the people are forced to pay into that they might be borelli or they might morally object to but those just don't count because you're not a catholic right because your religion might not be big enough or something and i wore only object to funding wars that we fight how come i don't have

a lot of your taxpayer money is that i actually don't have a problem with your logic i have a problem with the logic which i think is a big take away from all the parties they manage to get himself and hannity couldn't make their show tonight so the other guy. well you know it was not that j.p. where the minute hand of the play even for the evening and that's your time. ok i'll take it back a little better logic. let's move on to the next i'm sure there are a lot of people that are morally objected to this is well we know that of course new york now is legalized gay marriage and now it's changed out or it has asked for a petition to allow burton ernie from sesame street to be married to you in case you're not familiar with bert and ernie let us remind you a little clip. what are you doing with cookies and cookies and just one group or choice sort of a few cookies before i went to sleep. those cookies while you're. wondering.

extent that. there is more of. those you. are so these people are sick right i mean they often go they go and they protest. of soldiers because they think that the death of our soldiers the punishment for our acceptance of homosexuality in this country and now they're actually going to norway and they're going to protest at the funeral of the victims of the terrorist attack by anders breivik from last week which is it's just horrible but there is one maybe a light at the end of the title of all of this which people are saying is that they're hoping that maybe when the west are about to go to norway that actually get arrested because they don't have quite as much free speech when it comes to being allowed to picket at the funerals yeah i know that that is probably

a silver lining and i didn't think that you know when this was the first brush with terrorism in norway but they never you know realize that as a result of that they would get their first brush with like the crazy you are about to see we see all of you and i was wearing the other and yet there's like five of them now is that how do you say to norway how do they have this you know tour all over the country well i think that the lesson that i was draw from the westboro baptist church is that this is of course the most the most horrible speech right this is the thing that we really can't stand it we want to we want to create laws or whatever or just try to protect prevent but it's but it's never these things that are that are difficult to decide right it's always political speech that's the sort of the difficult thing to figure out whether or not it's ok for certain people to speak and others not to so what i would do what i would just say is like i love that i live in a country where we kind of just go if it's really awful it's absolutely terrible but you know fine they'll do. they're thing and we don't have to worry about you know i don't really think i'm totally with you there and you know i'm sorry if the laws are not as relaxed in norway but maybe the whisper back just got arrested i'd
