joint the killings the home of business the great wages the grand imperial. college was the school until you can a little child those with which i don't have to go. read this in the kernel was that you know as a retreat. headlines in our team just read us thought it was dealing with its debt it's delta poor by a credit score and loses its followed a crowd. israel gears up for another round of mass protests that begins to decades as people rage against a government they say has abandoned them. and we travel to russia's drastic park in the remote far eastern our world region where new breeds of dinosaurs were discovered.
2:01 am
it's ten am here in moscow you're watching r.t. thanks for joining us the united states prize top aaa credit rating has been cut for the first time ever started and poor's has dropped america's ranking to a double a plus now the a destructive force is the crippling debts which congress the struggle to agree on how to tackle with only an eleventh hour deal to raise the amount allowed lesson piece says that's not enough and falls far short of what's needed to stabilize the government's runaway poor way but the obama administration says the analysis is way off and will damage any recovery artie's lucy cough and i was in washington for us . it really is more than anything i future symbolic and unprecedented blow to the united states to its status as a as safe investment basically what this credit rating are lowering does it is it really raises questions about the validity of the united states and the ability of the u.s. political. to get its financial house in order so to speak the record questions
2:02 am
here for the american people for the u.s. government could be severe now while this only takes it down from aaa to a.a. plus with a negative outlook threatening in fact that we could get lowered even more in the next two years what it does is a potentially it is sends a message that the united states is a risky investment that it sends interest rates going up for the federal government and because other borrowing costs are tied to that that means mortgage payments could go up mortgage interest rates can go up car interest rates can go up and really the rest of the u.s. economy could be severely affected now one thing that we do have to keep in mind here is that the obama administration had pointed out that the s. and p. had made an error of about two trillion dollars in. projections in releasing that information now the s. and p. doesn't make these decisions based on any sort of special information they really it really is a political reaction based on facts that are available to just anyone and so the
2:03 am
other thing we have to keep in mind here is that these same credit ratings agencies essentially allowed top ratings to continue in the united states at a time when we were investing a lot of money in these mortgage securities that essentially ended up pub lapsing and pulling down the u.s. economy with it so they don't really have all that much credibility in the eyes of the world market still however we don't know what will happen come monday when the markets will open and if those interest rates do rise there could be a root ball at this very unstable economic time here in the united states with the passage of this debt deal the u.s. government's hands are essentially tied in terms of stimulating the economy in terms of any sort of new spending that could boost growth we saw g.d.p. growth would have stalled to almost a crawl in the second half of the year we saw on top of that the jobs report that came out on friday for the united states while it was somewhat positive it actually showed negative growth because it means that more people here in america have.
2:04 am
given up looking for work so politically there's really not that will in washington to do what's needed to stimulate growth and financially they simply do not have the tools in their possession in order to improve things here and so while these credit rating agencies may sometimes be accused by some financial experts of having missed the mark long ago these small tiny effects in terms of higher interest rates could really really cripple what's already seems to be a worsening recession here in the united states global business expert george who told r.t. the credit reduction is a signal to politicians to stop playing political games. in the near term i'm not sure it will actually have much of our influence on the financial market but i think it's a very strong message hopefully it's a strong message to the politicians in congress as well as the white house that
2:05 am
they better deal with this problem seriously and that played politics it's very narrow matter. can the u.s. afford to pay the tab because us it's always paid at by printing more money that's been historically the case what's different about this time is that the members of congress choose to stroll hand hold the ceiling hostage to other issues or issues having to do with taxation and spending and title amendments and so on and so forth and they're not able to reach any a cold on those other issues and therefore they decided to take chicken ok you know play brinksmanship on the air on the national debt and i don't think they fully appreciate the damage that this move has done to to push speech of the united states are not economists reform wolf told r.t.
2:06 am
that americans national recovery plan was doomed from the start. we've had twenty years of being told that a private enterprise economy is the royal road to success and prosperity forever then we had a crash of that system now we've had a recovery by a government that took care of the banks and insurance companies first and assured us it would trickle down it's not trickling down that's what is unemployment numbers mean that's what the increasing foreclosure of people being thrown out of their homes means and so on the stock market is finally the investment community itself realizing that this system is broken and their fear is nothing on the horizon to take it out and the anxiety that used to be among all the average people the vanishing middle class and all the people worried about government spending that ames iowa is now spreading even to the top of the economy as they realize
2:07 am
they've gone way too far and may have killed the goose that is laying the golden egg at least for their own let's see how it's going down elsewhere in the world are reports now from asia's third largest economy india which has seen its really groove in the opposite direction. eastern markets are tumbling they were tumbling on friday obviously we don't know what's going to happen on monday in specific reaction to this news but many analysts many financial analysts here predicted this especially after the u.s. debt ceiling debate that took so long and in many ways is what people are saying led to these lower approval ratings they got you could say so the markets have tumbled here people are losing confidence in the american economy obviously there are things that soaring there is seeing a lots of decisions not specifically being made when it comes to that two point four trillion dollars in cuts a lot of people are wondering if they're telling us this along to come to a decision just to raise the debt ceiling how much longer could it take to actually
2:08 am
figure out but typically where to cut and paste it has a very vested interest in this if you think about what these ratings actually means that means that the united states won't be able to repay a lot of their loans in asia actually hold three trillion dollars in the united states alone so people here are watching what's happening in the united states very closely asian investors are going to gauge me on the back of what's been a tough week for america's economy gibralter says they're gong. all the asians already know that america's got problems all of my patients are already moving out of u.s. government bonds everybody in asia knows that we never got out of the first global recession unemployment in america still higher than it was in two thousand and eight the american debt has skyrocketed and gone through the debt are through the roof america's in worse shape now than it was before america spent a lot of money and the people who god had money are better off but the overall situation is much worse america's quadrupled its debt america if you take in they
2:09 am
consider the things that they have guaranteed they printed huge amounts of money you know the world has gotten worse the world hasn't gotten better we will either inflate paid people back in worthless money we will in trade it away we will change the rules we will put on exchange controls of ish or the us will depart that's why people are moving away from us government bonds because everybody knows that the us is in serious trouble and the debt situation is getting worse and worse not better better and. other downgrade came by too late to head to europe's stock market but it had already taken a hammering this week be battered by the euro zone and america's debt difficulties a lot is that of the shell is marking the fallout for us in brussels that our europe is state as it is the how will this news of the credit bowl to america be a felt where you are. this is full destroy the reputation of the green its agencies here unless until all the white house they were told it later two trillion dollars
2:10 am
stake in their calculations but sperma to get with european partners we work them up in an emergency meeting in the middle of the the night of need to pay at least the mistake and then when the handle of downgrade anyway but really u.s. credit rating it's a big you rode along here in europe for many years because they still were aaa ratings all of the big bully collapsed in the crunch the agencies lost the reputation people lost their savings and the wall slid into recession is listen you're you're over as in these numbers the agency had a long talk with the white house big deal about this you know burdens all alone give you a situation where it's responsible question and agencies decisions none of that happen when they recently downgraded countries here in the european union. and all of those or all that's just ratings agencies and systems and the e.u. is no creating its own agency in any case that there are going to prove by not just
2:11 am
from america which will happen much more interest only it's already unsustainable book you can around the world who hold up their people in asia people in europe which you know but it looks much more shaky ok thank you very much for that markets are closed today but certainly be watching back closely to agel bushels are reporting from a brussels. now one small jet for one dr black hole for a government rater were in new york to ask what's the difference between our dept and those of our leaders. much worse for government to be and why because we trust the government to do the right thing and they're doing absolutely the opposite that we do you trust yourself to do the right thing and live within your means i do but i'm in debt so that i can pay it off more views on why people and governments max out their credit and how to set things straight that's coming up in a few minutes. and painful balance over the top secret documents shows
2:12 am
british officers were encouraged to weigh up how baucher they torture of prisoners depending on how much information they could get. discontented easier all showing no sign of abating with protesters planning a third weekend of social protests one tel aviv the street has already been renamed by some as dr square which was the a site of egypt's uprising and fall asleep reports the number of protesters is growing steadily. faces of a saturday tens of thousands of protesters will be taking to the streets here in tel aviv as well as uncivil out of such as around the country where they'll be holding mass rallies against the government there hoping to top the one hundred fifty thousand nationwide who took to the streets last weekend this is the third saturday in the road protest all the polls they are united under the banner that the government has abandoned the people and the central message coming from organizes is that the people are taking their country back now the plan tonight is
2:13 am
for demonstrators came on from what's top would have all the way to the british consul maybe a tent city has been established they funneled this nation was not far from here at that period to spain's compound and there they'll be holding a mass where you presume to a number of demands on the government of the civil speakers several popular singers also kurds and in the last week there have been a number of smaller demonstrations that have been held for several hours earlier this week taxi drivers blocked off a number of main roads they were protesting against the high cost of diesel there was also another purchase among teachers university places and students and they were united under the banner we education for all and another demonstration just yesterday we hundreds of parents with strollers took to the streets and they were protesting against the wizened costs and behind costs of having children feeling as well these many prime ministers. have been surprised by the massive supports all
2:14 am
these demonstrations and his government is still struggling in terms of how to deal with them essentially what you can hear some people here in israel saying is that in the tanakh it was so obsessed with gathering intelligence for the third term no from the mediterranean that he missed the opportunity to see what was happening here under his eyes policy only to tell of of. little more of the protests in israel we're joined by knesset member of saddam from the opposition labor party thanks very much for joining us there's already a place it celebrates been informally relabeled i start here do you think we can expect any of the middle east uprising scenarios in israel. no i don't think we can get to the scenes that we saw in egypt and in libya and in tunisia it won't be violent there won't be dead in the street but the sentiment is almost the same that the something must be done in order to to.
2:15 am
in order to have a better life so people here are yelling are shouting are sleeping in the street i'm talking about tens of thousands but you won't get the same scenes in egypt you won't see the police shooting or beating the protestors it's a very polite it's very strong best still very polite as to how to change the policy of the government and how to have a better life in israel for the time being they have not been any wounded in the last through three weeks i don't think it will be different in the coming weeks all right this is a sentiment you're it's not about a change in the living conditions around one hundred fifty thousand people are expected to show up at the demonstrations is this the main issue that's bringing all of them together to stand against power or are there other grievances that are voicing. you know. it's a discount in about almost everything in india with this government the free market of anti well first state and
2:16 am
a very you know capitalistic views and it seems that people you know people are working. you know physicians technicians university professors you let you work all week and you can have the ends meet so in a way there is no way you can live properly even if you are not just an employee you work full time you cannot makes ends meet and there's the problem for most israelis this is a strike of history professionals it's not of unemployed people we have almost no one the ploy that but you do everything and see if you cannot have a decent life all right said do you think the prime minister binyamin netanyahu and his government will take any notice. it's against his his political views it's again his conception konami conception this guy has a free market view we does not teach these are the system we have been in on with
2:17 am
a welfare state for so many years he came into power in the last you know fifteen years ago and he changed the system and i think that he doesn't get the lesson very well he thinks that political movements are behind these demonstrations where as these people come from their home and they do it in the most. clean way regardless of right and for the first time this demonstration has no right wing or left wing views it is most of the mainstream israelis who feel so bad about how they live and they go to the street like tonight and maybe next week and i don't think mr netanyahu gets the right view of these demonstrations he thinks that political parties are behind it and his route ok this is standard third meeting or saying it might consider as of next week so many people camped out on the streets why do you think international reaction has been rather subdued. well you know we must tell you as in the knesset member we expected september to be
2:18 am
the black september for us you know the un vote on recognition of the palestinian state everything in israel was really directed to that september suddenly the problems come from home and we think that the the international reaction people are shocked as to the scenes seen in tel aviv they thought that egypt has a problem the arab world has a problem didn't think that israel might encounter such problems like in the middle east which shows you that we are part of the middle east we are part of this the social event happening in the middle east in other countries and which which could . do the proof that israel is is part of this area and maybe the international community should pay more attention as to what's happening on the social problem in israel ok thank you very much your insight there daniel ben-simon from israel's opposition labor party thank you and on our website you can get more reports right
2:19 am
from the epicenter of the demonstrations in. all activists and journalists say it with hardly any global media attention the government can easily ignore the pressure to improve living standards more on this story online at r.t. dot com. the. british intelligence services have allegedly been violating international law for almost a decade a leaked top secret documents suggest that agents were permitted to use information taken from prisoners under duress overseas officers were asked to balance how much they expected detainees to suffer i guess the value of the information they could get they were also given political protection from prosecution and human rights
2:20 am
activists are demanding an open and fair inquiry but fear that any questions will be met with a wall of silence as tara lyall from amnesty international explains. and there are a few key reasons why the inquiry is unable to do its job properly the first of these is the rather shocking level of secrecy that surrounds the inquiry and much of the inquiry is going to take place behind closed doors and no information will be released to the public without the say so of the government which is very boring for an inquiry they're supposed to be getting information to the public about what's been going on very much hope that they will see that there will still be an inquiry which is open and thorough and transparent and i think if there is a full open inquiry and lessons are learned from that and the u.k. can restore its reputation in the world by then making sure that it does in the future learn from the lessons of the past tens of thousands of japanese refugees and face the triple horror earthquake tsunami and nuclear crisis now have another

worry their fellow citizens are to sean thomas reports from japan. caught in limbo left without a home and have been mostly of government welfare just to eat never met everyone has been very kind to us we have no complaints the government has done everything they can to help us find shelter what worries us the future we're going to do next we feel inside it japan is an island limited in space and there are thousands from need somewhere to live that means creative solutions are needed families are given temporary refuge anywhere from school gymnasiums in classrooms to high rise hotels in tokyo this is one of the many shelters in the fukushima region where tens of thousands of people are still displaced having fled the earthquake the tsunami and now nuclear radiation but one of the stigmas attached to these people who have left their homes is that their behavior is characteristically on japanese and that's not very popular with song those who have chosen to seek safety for themselves have
2:22 am
been accused of betrayal by those left behind by the want that they also know it's dangerous to be there because of the radiation but they have their lives there their children go to school there and they work in that area but some of them feel we are privileged and spoiled others think there is no danger and we need to go back soon i must and aside from the pressure to move back home they are enduring additional torment in a cultural form of survivor's guilt as well so there is no there is a typical japanese reaction to blame themselves and he will not be able to help those who died in this accident due to speeding exists among japanese people and especially those who survived this disaster and look at the cause of the. survivors like this where nani santo are left with mixed emotions caught between an uncertain future and a broken past but that's not it i think of life as a jordan and i don't think of it lasting forever i just want to live my life with

god but when i think of the graves of our grandparents or the people that brought us up i feel sad to have a place that grew up and. in japan sean thomas archie. and that's who travel thousands of kilometers east of moscow but millions of years back in time. the far eastern and more reach and it's rich geology has an abundance of precious and valuable battles which is driving its industrial expansion that is our severed as made one team whose treasure lies not of gold and guns. this week the russian close up team is coming to you all week from the far east and our more region now for many this region's distinctive juicer its proximity to china and it's not reserved of what materials and natural resources but one paleontologist and his

team it's the bones of ancient dinosaurs discovered deep within the ground here that will put this region firmly on the map. u.t.v. lawsky is a man obsessed with the past a bygone age when dinosaurs rule this part of russia he may have been born in the country's name western areas but it's the far east on tap jurassic history in the region to which he's devoted his adult life based on her very near just let's like to be known since about nine hundred forty eight that would have been unbelievable number of bones are buried here and i think we'll be digging for at least another two years which they literally everywhere here we are no region is looking at one of the few functioning archaeological sites only here can a site boast of having produced a complete dinosaur skeleton that discovery made a decade ago led to the full recognition of a new breed of dinosaur a lot in town or giant swan at twelve nice along heard of all found almost

a brand new car that the lifestyle and that's what they want is so much advertising and people just want you to spend money so i think that's the difference between americans and europeans but you have advertising in europe are you just you don't pay attention to it or. i think we pay less attention to it and we probably think a little more about what we need and what we can afford but it's all about thinking yes i think so is it worse for you to be in debt personally that it is for a government to be in that. it's much worse for a government to be in there why because we trust the government to do the right thing and they're doing absolutely the opposite of that we don't you trust yourself to do the right thing and live within your means i do what i can and get such that i can pay it off debt is dead it's bad for governs best for individuals and the government should show leadership show they've got to clean it up do we really

expect our government to get its act together if we can't get our act together for small families we can only hope that individuals and the government will step up and make a difference whether or not you're in debt personally the bottom line is we've become a planet of debtors so it might be time for all of us to rethink what it is to live within our means. i'll be back with a recap of the headlines you stay with us in our three. hungry for the full story we've got it's. the biggest issues get a human voice face to face with the news makers on the party.
