ati's exclusive interview with. the president of the islamic republic of iran. president mahmoud ahmadinejad thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy sched jewel to be on r.t. and to answer a number of questions that i'd like to put to you and get your latest thoughts on domestic issues and international issues and i'll start if i may with the story that made all the news headlines for the past six months that's unfolded in north africa in the middle east that's been dubbed the arab spring what are your views on the arab spring and we've spoken about it before but i just wanted to hear your latest thoughts do you think it's a popular uprising for the better to bring democracy or do you think it's something maybe there's been orchestrated from abroad over to us or so we've seen very important developments in our region and in north africa it's not only about the people in the region today justice and dignity are among the requirements of all
2:32 pm
human beings africa has the same aspirations and i think our region has the ability to run our own countries and they have the ability to reach their goals and objectives it's important to take note on the interference of nato in the region nato has interfered in the affairs of libya the security council has made a mistake instead of sending bombs and planes to libya they should have sent mediation groups in order to prepare for free elections under the auspices of the un and whoever won the elections would be acceptable for the people but the security council hastily issued a resolution and it has complicated the situation that has led to the killings and the massacre of people and destruction of infrastructure in the country. do you think iran needs to liberalize do you think you should introduce more political reforms to maybe head off something similar happening in this country as well at some point in the future does it worry you at all. i think the entire world needs more freedom and more than everybody else in the world the europeans and the
2:33 pm
americans need freedom in europe is their freedom really is the real freedom. in the united states they're beating people in the streets do you think of the dissenting voices in your country of which there are some are listening to you do you give any heed to what they have to say to you. i think we have more freedom in iran than other countries and the voices are heard more than in other countries i am among the people and i am in close contact with the people we have messed media we have preferred the press and they criticize the government but if you think i'm going to say we have an ideal situation where in the world can you find a fully ideal country iran is among the best countries in the world in this respect we've never said we are perfect should be a comparison let's look now at your neighbors new relationship with some of your nearest neighbors i'm thinking bahrain yemen lebanon iraq palestine some of those countries have been complaining we're meddling in their internal affairs do they
2:34 pm
have a point. have we done a bad thing that we said that people should not be killed in bahrain what bad thing did we do do you call it interference who is using military force in bahrain are we doing that who is interfering in the internal affairs of the region show me one place or one location in the world where iranian military forces are present there is no such place the british forces american forces nato forces there are around us everywhere there surrounding iran and those same forces say iran is interfering in the internal affairs of the region what can we say to that. only recently iran announced that you've stepped up production of new centrifuges faster better centrifuges to make better higher quality. the question mark is why i know you said all the long line round does not want nuclear weapons ran is a peaceful country but of course a lot of people in the west don't believe that they do feel that there's not enough transparency do you think this country you should be doing more to make it more
2:35 pm
transparent. we don't like that some countries have nuclear weapons if we're going to be against nuclear weapons we must rise in opposition to current nuclear arsenals their own oil many nuclear arsenals in belgium in germany and other european countries. so let me just get this straight are you saying that in some point in the future you may want to acquire a nuclear deterrent a nuclear weapon. never never we do not want nuclear weapons we do not seek nuclear weapons this is an inhuman weapon our religion says it is prohibited and we are religious people nuclear weapons have no capability today if any country tries to build a nuclear bomb in fact they waste their money and resources and they create great danger for themselves the international equations are not determined by nuclear arsenals today the americans have nuclear bombs and nuclear weapons and could they
2:36 pm
win in iraq and afghanistan could the nuclear weapons help the israelis to gain victory in lebanon and gaza could nuclear weapons help the former soviet union from collapse. nuclear weapons or weapons of the previous century our goal in the country and the goal of our people is peace for all nuclear energy for rules and nuclear weapons for non all nuclear activities in iran are monitored by the i.a.e.a. there will be no documents against iran from the agency it's just a claim by the us that we are after nuclear weapons. do you ever consider it possible that the in. states could make a strike against you could launch military action against your country does it worry you. they want to do it but they know. they know that we would give them a very decisive response i'm sorry to ask you again this when you say a decisive response what you mean is that what you're talking about that. we would give them a crushing response that's a normal reaction we have
2:37 pm
a saying if someone throws a small stone you reply with a bigger one we will defend ourselves to our full capability but i hope that will never come there's no reason for war why should they attack us. the same regards israel as well then yes there's no reason ever to go to war with them there's no reason to make a first strike a preemptive strike against them would you have. the case of the zionist regime is different it was created for the purpose of threats and aggression it was created to secure the interests of the west if there's an earnest regime didn't terrorize occupy or threaten it wouldn't exist they've been created solely for that purpose and in the past sixty years they've always done the same thing they've always behaved the same way but anyway they can look at the world map they can see iran there and our history and geopolitics. nuclear power plant which has been in development for a long time obviously is a country must be very much looking forward to that coming on stream to give you nuclear power to know when the launch date will be know the operational date when
2:38 pm
it feeds the grid. it will be operational they say before the end of the year there is no problem of course it's part of the relationship between us and russia but of course that can be seen by the world community and the entire international community watches how russians are building our nuclear power plant. let's focus on china fast developing country actively promoting itself here in iran at the moment how do you see iranian development both ways do you think you'll be selling more of your energy to china in the future. we have a two way relationship with iran and china are two important and large countries and they enjoy centuries old civilizations and consciousness we've always maintained friendly ties and today we have identical views on international development but the common denominator in our relationship is based on justice and security for all. relationship with russia has always been very good
2:39 pm
but it was a little shaky when for the first time russia decided to go with sanctions imposed here you said that was inadmissible last year and acceptable what i relations with russia now. iran and russia are two neighbors geographically we should always remain neighbors we cannot change that reality because we cannot move our land we must be friends and we must remain friends we must be in a position to make use of these resources and common views earlier i had very good talks with mr putin and also very useful discussions with president medvedev i hope will be able to expand our bilateral relations especially with regard to the present global economic and political changes iran and russia can offer common solutions to the current international troubles and the two sides must develop their ties and contacts and hopefully we'll be able to increase the level of those by law. the relations in twenty thirteen you'll be coming to the end of your a second and final presidential term you've been extremely busy for the last eight
2:40 pm
years what are you going to do then what does a president then become what are you looking forward to doing and what will you miss about the job we have free elections in our country whoever is elected by the people will be the right one and this is the right of our nation they have the right to freely elect anybody they wish and i will help them i'm a university professor and to preserve this job and profession and i'll continue to serve the nation anywhere and at the university they'll be no problem. let me ask you know what you will most miss about the job would you most enjoyed about the job . myself. ok. present moment image of a run think you so much for taking the time to be with all of the international you know your times preciousness very much appreciate it.

this is a table from the u.s. embassy in colombo to talk about here an apparent june seventh incident of extrajudicial executions the military according to the press that on that day that killed nine guerrillas and come back the best edition by instructs you including you know and they strongly suggest however that the nine were executed by the army

and then dressed in military fatigues. to. explain how you know this kind of phenomenon where bodies are dressed up as guerrillas and presented as killed in action and this and this idea that you need to produce bodies actually encouraged paramilitary collaboration this is a cia document central intelligence agency they knew about these activities they knew they were happening they knew about links to paramilitary groups and. usa continue to flow. takes fifteen to twenty million years for the planet to recover from a major extinction event but the planet has time we don't. it's been going on for months twenty twenty five years and sensors with eco terrorists before there

2:47 pm
well an exam that did to their level six minutes after the break joint top of the league's scorers list one zero is how it's played in china as for that is man a two points off the top. while elsewhere attacked for duty comes a day before and as the moscow pub cruised past the biggest downside three no there is no theory no brazilian striker our regroups to fine have a list that you don't put up with thirty five minutes gone he then turned to provide that nine minutes later and need to come out of netted from close range at first like an elbow in either his number surprise go spots are applied as much pressure off to the recent not that it's in the pros love writing a third verse of the last of the day after seventy three minutes. well look at what you must have yet to taste defeat since the arrival of new coach jersey crucero last month even though they failed to score for a second straight game the railway men were held to another goalless draw this time
2:48 pm
but you boys vulgate the need to see george has arguably the closest to break the deadlock over a strike i've seen each of them from the side. but elsewhere above your struct proved to be the likely winner boxing cycling is the better of one to want at capitol. hill meanwhile every team is still chasing pace going to salvage a last gasp equaliser in the warm one draw repeat on saturday the hand side pulled ahead just before half time the best nescio scored from the spot after the referee bowled however the tide looked to have turned in the second half. sent off in the second group of the defense that's that they can shave that blasted high with. golfers over the moon and it seemed he would be once again after the final whistle but in the dying seconds stoppage time ago it sprang a miracle just that side the box to square it one all with the final attack of the match. a lot off the pitch has been

a champions routine have signed part of why strike and nelson says the twenty seven year old joins from spanish side to these twenty three year deal now this was instrumental in paragraph one to the quarter finals at last year's world cup his national side also finished runners up to your wife had lost once corporate america . meanwhile ironing and ashley young struck the eighty first minute winner is matched united made a winning starts to the defense of their premier league title with a two one victory west bromwich albion united lead after thirteen minutes through a wayne rooney strike in debutant shane long levelled up to thirty seven minutes to the visitors and gulf exhaust every day dive dive with a bold plan to young and save his life just the way it is later but when to find the steven reid united victory however. there was no winning start the new manager and the evil ashwell rest of his chelsea side dreams nil nil at stoke and i tore a started out front instead of didier drogba and those with forty points and don't be defending it's quite probably three and also feels ten down. all they want on
2:50 pm
saturday and for the first time in english premier league history that was a single on the opening day of the season promoted side queens park rangers were thrashed four nil at home to bolton while wolves were someone like you and us with strike if you give us a sense often late on in his arsenal debut as they got history will never let you call so sunderland bats back to take a point at liverpool nor action against fulham and that also shares their spoils and sort of against hesitance they spend most of the rise in the wind in the week. though to sports now and casey stoner has extended his lead over reigning motor g.p. champion jorge lorenzo after the australian triumph in the czech republic to claim his sixth when of the season start as repsol honda teammate dani pedrosa started from pole but crashed not early in the race and stoner never looked back after class to finish just a six and a half seconds ahead of another teammate and the busy zero so fast improving marco simoncelli claimed his maiden podium place just over
2:51 pm
a second for the back runs i had to settle for fourth and i trailed leaders started by thirty two points in the overall standings. we managed to to my gap after only pressured so i think dani would have been extremely competitive today has been a weekend but unfortunately you know fortunately for us they gave us the opportunity to make a break and i want to we had you know i just kept a lot of times up make sure you know i stayed not consistent pulled away bit by bit and you know the black body in the race was fantastic so we just brought her in. and in the meantime britain's top cyclist mark cavendish has won the test event ahead of next summer's london olympics the monks miss also sprinted to victory in a road race over almost one hundred forty kilometers which is nearly hope as long as the projected. the twenty six year old trained the green points josie that's the tour de france last month and was once again documents of course the french fry made him promise that as training and then pick gold will still be a tall order. a city movie was that he will get

try to use my you know body weight more of them weights just different i don't think you know there is really something special about it you know what your body needs enemies you know how much time you need to get ready so it's very much the program that you kind of. figure out through your career. but. i would love to play i mean. it's so close to have a winter olympics in russia i'm sure i mean it seems like the. country government you know they're doing everything to make sure you know everything is going to be first class and i'm looking really looking forward to it so all hope well play there where they're not going to play on the plane going to watch the games. but. it was a cause for mine for i think the year. before i went to north america and i had
2:54 pm
a chance to work with them during the world cop. so i know him i know him comment on our style of youths are always shooting so i think way he's a one of those guys who. you know wants to win and i'm very level that he's working . hard. i don't think that there. as anybody close to be here on that's not a skinner mulcair no trouble child seems like those guys above everybody else or him beyond they have so much talent from sims like that. i mean there is a few good players but i don't think there are as good as can the average fan or a culture. or. sims like who the league is progressing over the years last couple years the games there are getting more competitive and i think the quality of hockey getting better so and i was there still talking to people my friends who are going theorems be
2:55 pm
saying the same thing so cage i think moving in the right direction i'm just not that busy to circumscribe cheer on building a new league and that seems like you're doing right things and then moving forward . ok. i talk with fewer russian players look around them i play for you because of a place holder they want to championship larry last year it was a captain put it to me and then talk to him i talked to on three once in a while i'm not sure where you are going to probably call him next few days. and you know. i keep in touch with those guys and they telling me what's going on. record. as long as i feel how say you know there is no need injuries so i'd like to continue playing at the lakers i mean i still want to play i had a surgery a couple years ago on my shoulder and i most missed almost
