6:30 pm
let's not forget that we had a hard party. i sent. you to well. we haven't got the live shows here to keep you safe get ready because you get the freedom. for. full.
6:31 pm
time for show and tell us the night's program the last time we spoke about some of the outlandish statements that we've heard from the g.o.p. as a top presidential candidate we wanted to know if you thought the g.o.p. front runners were more extreme this time around and those we've seen in the past and could produce different race in a sense here to find out what you have to say. the presidential election is still fifteen months away but just this past week we don't know a real good look at the g.o.p. front runners or in iowa straw poll or once in every four years the state fair it becomes a media circus so how do these canada. try and stand out from the crowd let's take
6:32 pm
a look michele bachmann the winner of the straw poll said she would take all those poor guy to the government opposing any extended benefits for the one in six people that are unemployed in the us ron paul came in second he wants to abolish the federal reserve because it's corrupt and unconstitutional temple and he was thirty three year ready to quit so let's just skip to rick perry who wants or feel the sixteenth amendment and eliminate income tax which will cut about eighty percent of the government's income and you can forget mitt romney arguing with the guy in the audience over his social security so do any of you think these g.o.p. candidates are more fried to one of those corn dogs at the state fair or are they just being extreme to attract the voters o'brien said they are certainly a few doing bad sanat race but i don't think the ultimate g.o.p. nominee has entered yet so all told us there are even more nuts out there but we sure do have some scary ones in the g.o.p. robert added i thought palin would scare everyone but here comes rick perry and
6:33 pm
then zach he sums it up he said he will we will always have our extreme miss on the left and the right obese on the straw poll that does not officially count for anything some of these hopefuls are already acting like their ship has come in but they're leaning so far to the right that they all better be careful not to capsize the boat. now as always thank you for your responses and here's our next question for you earlier in the show we discussed the second round of global financial crisis that appears to be on the horizon so tonight we want to know what you think is it two thousand and eleven going to be the sequel to the financial crisis of two thousand and eight you can respond to us on facebook twitter and you tube and you know if your responses just might make it on air. now tonight we have more proof that the british government is doling out some serious punishments to people who took part in the recent riots in any way the police have charged more than a thousand people with crimes related to the rights and while some. be fair some of
6:34 pm
the sentences are absolutely absurd last night we told you about jordan blackshaw and perry sutcliffe keenan both men in their twenty's have each been given a four year prison sentences for creating facebook pages that incited riots this despite the fact that the page created by black shot called smash down in north which town resulted in nobody showing up for the so-called riot and sutcliffe keenan's case he drunkenly created the page and then took it down the next morning so no riot ever occurred but the judge who made the ruling called the facebook plotting an evil act and said that he hoped the harsh sentence would be a deterrent to would be rioters but insanity did not stop there forty eight year old thomas downey is now going to jail for sixteen months after he took a box of krispy kreme donuts from a store in manchester during the riots and i doubt he who admits that he has a drinking problem took a box of donuts after the store had been looted and he says he didn't cause any damage when he stumbled into the bake shop and took the donuts because he was hungry now when twenty police officers arrived at the store in manchester he was
6:35 pm
arrested in charge of downey actually had just gotten out of jail that day so he's no stranger to prison he's add more than one hundred convictions for two hundred thirty three offenses during during his life but if he deserves sixteen months in jail for taking a box of donuts i thought i'd think so now apparently looting isn't the only crime in the u.k. is cracking down on we have another case connect to the crackdown after riots on social media police have been searching twitter facebook and blackberry messenger to track down people who took part in the riots and during their search police also arrested a twenty year old from colchester his crime he was trying to round up people for a large water fight now the man's name has a release of police found a message about the water fight on blackberry messenger and on facebook so he still have to appear in court next month to answer charges in that case now you might recall british prime minister david cameron said the police would be targeting social media to crack down on rioters and future protests but everyone. will be
6:36 pm
struck will be struck by how they were organized by social media a free flow of information can be used for good but it can also be used to so we are working with the police the intelligence services and industry to look at whether it would be right to stop people communicating via these websites and services when we know they are violence disorder and criminality. so i guess that a water fight now qualifies as violence disorder and criminality and maybe i am insane but i would just call that fun so looks like the mighty u.k. is following in the footsteps of countries that it was condemning just months ago. now while president obama finishes up his bus tour that he claims isn't for campaigning purposes there's one thing that's really standing out about the stops that he made are even more so the stops that he did it make as representative maxine waters noted he didn't make any stops and black communities in fact the congressional black caucus feels of the president has been ignoring the plight of black americans altogether. obama aims to keep white voters on board what we
6:37 pm
want to be on board to. now while obama prepares his new jobs for pozole to fix the entire economy congressional black caucus has been on a five city tour this month to address the issue and the figures for black communities make the national unemployment numbers pale in comparison to go by the official numbers used by the government agencies the u. three well national unemployment is at nine point two percent unemployment rate for african-americans is it fifteen point nine if you look at african-americans ages sixteen to nineteen that's at forty one point four percent so should the president be creating jobs for the jobs programs specifically geared towards just the black community and are is the black community getting frustrated enough to turn their back on this country's first black president or this guy is with me is general buoy writing fellow at the american prospect journal thanks so much for being here tonight like we have for starters do you agree here with maxine waters when she says that president obama isn't keeping the black community on board i don't
6:38 pm
necessarily agree i think personal bomb is doing the best it can become to keeping the boy tweeting i'm bored of the issue is that obama is a person that every american in there would it would actually appear a number of his supporters community a person of whom were to begin turning his group is explicitly towards our printer yeah but at the same time the african-american vote is a huge vote for president obama just the same way that the latino vote is a huge blow to president obama and so we say you know we see the same kind of disaffection coming from the latino population saying you made us a lot of promises and you are delivering great. that is absolutely true but again that's for the first moment to walk careful line economy is already doing poorly his support among white voters already is slipping at a higher rate than pretty previous democratic presidents so even if he wants to put out an explicit jobs program for you know. it's a tricky tricky one has to walk i think the solution is to actually just grow job proposals that help all americans what is it because it's
6:39 pm
a tricky line to have to walk or is it because he already knows that he's going to get this vote i want to play another clip here from maxine waters and this is something that she said in detroit on tuesday. you. know you tell us. this congress. we want to get rid of error free opportunity for people that are. important is our continent but. we don't know what the strategy is we don't know what our own district he's in the united states. right we don't know. so here she is saying to the congressional black caucus that she is ready to take on president obama she's ready to retire but they are saying that we need a you right we need the voters we need the constituents to allow us to do that because apparently in the past they feel like golf ace backlash right i don't know what is it is that a sense of betrayal or how would you describe that i think it's
6:40 pm
a few things first it's the congressional black caucus is next to your position right now because they're part of the democratic minority in the house they are ready here for on the margins of things because the tea party republicans in the republican party writ large in the house are the ones who have a lot of maneuvering room right now president obama is now actually focusing his attention those folks and as a result not only do a liberal democrats of all stripes here trip ignored but in particular the rest of the caucus precisely because the supporters of the president regardless so you think that it's more of an excuse for him perhaps they are in action because they're the ones that are the stalwart supporters of the president or are they actually scared of their constituents the way the maxine waters are saying here i'm not sure i don't think they're scared their constituents all the majority of members of the congressional black caucus come from districts where you know democrats are sixty percent of white tree and they're going to be reelected regardless of what happens i think it's a genuine feeling of powerlessness and also probably
6:41 pm
a little bit of things because i think it sounds like a little bit of an excuse but it really is incredible to me right i mean i just named off some of the speakers here and that's you three right says the national poll. it is nine point two percent really it's above sixteen percent but one of the figures for african-americans specifically are so much higher and yet if you look at a recent washington post a.b.c. poll eighty six percent of blacks approve of president obama's performance how do you put two and two together why are you so happy about still if there is such high unemployment if people from ages sixteen to nineteen almost fifty percent are unemployed i think so during the bush administration evan vocal support of bush it's breaking disappointing him for identity reasons he was part of them i think you're seeing something similar about him or president obama yes the care of our own women in education but also there's a certain clique with pride that comes with you know african-americans and so even with the bats though there's still a lot of support they don't want to see. you be disappointed but they don't want to
6:42 pm
so no matter what happens at the end of the day if the economy continues to be this bad it's unemployment level continues to be this high when it comes to two thousand and twelve they're going to vote for him again i think so but i think it's true of anyone who identifies as a liberal moderate democrat if you're going to be people your party well i think a lot of people are starting to question that right now right there is a lot of anger towards obama but unfortunately at the end of the day do you think that people have always falling in line going out and just voting for their guy again because they don't want the other party to be in power but you know i just feel like there has to be maybe some other kind of option but you specifically don't think that there should be a jobs program geared towards african-americans i think i think there ought to be conditioned on the you know you need that it justifies a jobs program specifically for americans but i political just thinking that maybe it's because of what if the jobs program for everyone is not usable then i have a hard time imagining a world where congressional republicans suddenly feel bad for the black community
6:43 pm
and want to let its program but you have as you have congressional republicans that like to speak of the black community the way that tom coburn did today as you know an entire population that lives off of the welfare state these are people who are dependent on. government so at the same time you could use that as an excuse to say let me get them off if that's the way you think of it and i'll create a jobs program for them but we'll have to see what is happening because tamala thank you so much for joining us thank you for having me. now still to come tonight he calls himself the modern day harriet tubman for stand up for standing up to democrats or even called b.s. on this congressman's night time award last michele bachmann here's the so he wanted to read another cold war and anderson cooper he like a little girl on a hair happy hour is coming up next. you know sometimes you see a story and it seems so. you think you understand it and then you glimpse something else here's the part of it and realize that everything is ok. i'm trying hard.
6:44 pm
to try. and get. first.
6:45 pm
let's not forget that we are hard working. i think. either one well. we never got that says they're safe get ready for freedom. are it's time for tonight's tool time award and tonight it goes to florida congressman allen west a since arriving in congress this year allen west has made
6:46 pm
quite a name for himself as a plainspoken take no prisoners kind of lawmaker some people find him appealing i find him crazy now last night congressman west was on fox news to discuss the congressional black caucus and their anger directed towards president obama but listen to his take on this issue. you have this twenty first century plantation move has been out there where the democratic party has forever taken the black vote for granted and you have established certain black leaders who are nothing more than the overseers of the plantation and now the people on that plantation are of serve because they've been disregarded disrespected and their concerns with our care though so i was the modern day harriet tubman's of how to lead people of the underground railroad away from the flirtation into a sense of sense ability. ok now the congressman definitely has a point about the black community being taken for granted by politicians we just spoke about that what congressman west actually comparison sell to harriet tubman i
6:47 pm
want to go ahead and say that i think he's giving himself a little bit too much credit just a quick history lesson here right harriet tubman born into slavery in the south after a scathing slavery traveling to the north she made thirteen trips back down south to rescue more than seventy slates she is the network of anti-slavery activists and safe houses which recalled the underground railroad she was a truly great american i am not so sure that we can say the same thing about allen west he was elected to congress last november in south florida and since arriving in d.c. he's made headlines for his many very offensive statements just a few weeks ago he became enraged at fellow florida congresswoman and d.n.c. chair debbie wasserman schultz remember this famous e-mail that he fired off two or . and he said you are the most unprofessional and despicable member of the house of representatives if you have something to say to me about being a coward say it to my face otherwise show eric up focus on your own compressional district you have very good repeatedly that you are not
6:48 pm
a lady therefore shall not be afforded due respect for me. does that seem very harriet tubman like to you calling a fellow lawmaker of vile and unprofessional that actually kind of seems vile and unprofessional to me but just a few months ago the congressman angered people over his comments on being gay. when you. come on no. i mean you know like you know chocolate chip ice cream you know and then i will continue like chocolate chip ice cream on the you know so there's no worry about the change in the bill. so he says that being gay is just like picking an ice cream flavor if it were that easy now the congressman is also no fan of islam he has made several comments about muslims including getting into a public shouting match at a town hall meeting in florida. the older. you.
6:49 pm
yeah the congressman also loves to spread islamophobia and that's just a brief sample of allen west work since he arrived here in washington so does he act like a modern day harriet tubman you decide but i'm going to say no he's a hateful tea party bully who can't work with gays muslims women or the congressional black caucus so far as harriet tubman comparison we're going to get republican congressman allen west tonight's tools have a board. ok time for happy hour is nice and joining me this evening is our team producer jenny churchill and mike rakes associate editor at reason that is ian and reason dot com . thanks for joining me guys. we have decided to show that michele
6:50 pm
bachmann is just the gift that keeps on giving this woman i love that she's running for president i'm a little scared that she's running for president i also love that she's running for president because of this stuff she says just provide so much material and the pictures that obviously are taken of her but here's a new clip of her this is something that she said on a radio show take a listen. where people represent. there's a fear that the united states is going to are. we see the rise of china right here right. through here and we're here. i know you're going to be the president you know what countries are rising and which ones don't even exist anymore maybe it is ok. i realize it's frightening to me is this seems to happen often we hear about politicians talking about how they're frightened of the soviet union it's like the ultimate bogeyman akhil that
6:51 pm
does not exist because our politicians are all there is still back in the court order a number of them especially those i think was maybe a special michele bachmann thing wishing elvis a happy birthday on the day that he thought i mean john wayne the cowboy with john wayne gacy the serial killer i almost just think like their brain is sort of like a lottery machine if you want to while a ball spits out and whatever it is that's what she's going to say occasionally she on point like the cage when she says sensible things you have to charge it really feels like she's just like plucking ideas out of the air and dropping them interest and i just really honestly would not be surprised if you asked her a question about the berlin wall and she would answer honestly as though it were still there i really do think that you know it's not dishonesty is just being wrong i mean i think she honestly believes yeah they did i mean very very very true colonial you know colonial america warning the british that the british are you know. the course well we actually have another one and like i said the gift that keeps on giving here's another clip of her today where she said something that was
6:52 pm
ridiculous i am one little fighter we need one strong on prayer i'm very active and i'm i'm very apt to go and stand for you in washington d.c. . ok i don't know about the attempt to get the latino vote out there but then at least also get the language right there's no such word in spanish as. for a woman who wants now. yes there is no it spanglish really fascinating you know she wants to build a wall a wall between us and mexico and if she insists on appropriating the language you can't have it both ways ok if you want to reduce it right i mean if you want to use new terms in the interest spanglish you know you've got him by people who help you build that language it's i don't know i just i admire her chutzpah though over what's going to say that that's. really. ok one else i want to let's play a clip of somebody who we all know very well and has been compared to michele bachmann is just as annoying just as crazy and you know we see her on t.v.
6:53 pm
all the time too and this is something we've particular heard a lot from her about. our audience is someone who sees america as imperfect enough to power around with terrorists who targeted their own country. right so this calendar around with terrorists thing obviously is something that obama had to deal with for a while because of bill ayres the funny thing is that the story came out today and shirk all this but i just have to you know i have to note the contradictions here and campaign staffer for congresswoman michele bachmann was arrested and imprisoned by the ugandan government secret police for alleged terrorism related activities nobody's talking about it right to i care honestly. at the same time if this was a campaign staffer for obama can you imagine what we would be hearing right now because he's a christian warrior he's he's the good kind of god's going oh ok all right you know
6:54 pm
you know i who the terror is i go out of limb and say that we're the media probably the nation is in crisis we're suffering from michele bachmann jobs are no longer the problems that bachmann won't shut up but then also the reason people are paying attention this is the evidence is mounting that there's no way she could win a general election absolutely no way i think it would be great for a visit this. site and i know you see. i think that's ridiculous you think it's interesting to point out that this would be a huge story we've been hearing about everywhere i go it doesn't matter who it is any democrat candidate right that was out there they would be blowing this up. now and still speaking presidential elections. there is an ad that was put out by a ron paul supporter regarding rick perry and it said have you ever had sex with rick perry are you a stripper and or just
6:55 pm
a young highly impressed by an arrogant and titled governor of texas contract. cash and we will help you publicize your direct healings with a christian buzzword spouting family values hypocrite and the rot and that was put into the austin chronicle and which do you think that using the name cash for their organization is kind of to imply i will give you money already is a reality this is what i didn't know i'm sorry you ever had a really great barry that i wouldn't be woken up before but never seen never for to him again you're well you sure you haven't ever had certainly brought in a ball or with charlie crist who has. a lot of allegations he was gay a lot of newspapers. came really close and journalists in florida still like to talk about like how close they came to that one hopper club boy who like being charlie crist but i just think if rick perry had been doing this with his just incredible hair which i think this is what this is all about and has made incredible here i'm slightly offended i don't think there's anything wrong with
6:56 pm
being gay but i think if you were we would know well i gave it is my problem i think this is like kind of funny it's a lot about oh my gosh they put an ad in there you know whatever however i do generally not agree with outing people for any reason i just i don't think that it's i know you're like oh my gosh if you're a family values issue and you also consistently talk about not giving a certain group of people rights that i think we should be outed i understand that but i just personally do not believe he should. play ball interject here but like if he's gay there's like what if he's not what if he's not interested in him you know i don't know. what is true is roughly equal ok. last night. they should thank their lucky stars it wasn't hard to.
6:57 pm
actually number one. there's a lot of show last night i was doing a lot of logs about gerard depardieu peeing in the aisle of an airplane and he was grabbing stuff why you want to. come and see awkward but like he actually last like a little like a little girl would like better i mean i go i don't agree with everything anderson cooper says lives kind of refreshing i was kid it was real you know what she was a really it's amazing that i was you know now it's actually a preview from his upcoming talk show. is this still part of that strategy that i do next. is going to be celebrity versus newscaster i have a personality but it was right out here are you thanks for joining us because i think. thanks for tuning in and make sure you come back tomorrow to that sort of quarter for wired's danger of being will be joining us to discuss whether or not pakistan left the chinese see ourself copter and if that even matters now in the meantime go because become
6:58 pm
