it's time for show and tell us a night's program tell last time we talk about some of the outlandish statements that we've heard from the g.o.p. as a top presidential candidate so we wanted to know if you thought the g.o.p. front runners were more extreme this time around and those we've seen in the past for the producer for truth in a sense you to find out what you have to say that. the presidential election is still fifteen months away but just this past week we got a real good look at the g.o.p. front runners during the iowa straw poll or once every four years the state fair and becomes a media circuits so how do these candidates try and stand out from the crowd let's take a look michele bachmann the winner of the straw poll said she would take all the court out of the government opposing any extended benefits for the one in six people that are unemployed in the u.s. . ron paul came in second he wants to abolish the federal reserve because it's
10:32 pm
corrupt and unconstitutional to pull n.z. was third but you already quit so let's just skip to rick perry who wants or feel the sixteenth amendment and eliminate income tax which would cut about eighty percent of the government's income and you can forget mitt romney arguing with the guy in the audience over his social security suit do any of you think these g.o.p. candidates are more fry than one of those corn dogs at the state fair or are they just being extreme to attract the voters over and said they are certainly out of view doing that as in that race but i don't think the ultimate g.o.p. nominee has endured yet so all told us there are even more nuts out there but we sure do have some scary ones in the g.o.p. robert added i thought palin would scare everyone but here comes rick perry and then zach he summed it up he said he will we will always have our extreme miss on the left and the right obese on the straw poll that does not officially count for
10:33 pm
anything some of these hopefuls are already acting like their ship has come in but they're leaning so far to the right that they all better be careful not to capsize the boat. now as always thank you for your responses and here's our next question for you earlier in the show we discussed the second round of a global financial crisis that appears to be on the horizon so it's not want to know what you think is it two thousand and eleven going to be the sequel to the financial crisis of two thousand and eight you can respond to us on facebook twitter and you tube and you know if your response just might make it on air. now tonight we have more proof that the british government is doling out some serious punishments to people who took part in the recent riots in any way so you believe them charged more than a thousand people with crimes related to the rights and while some may be fair some of the sentences are absolutely absurd last night we told you about jordan blackshaw and perry sutcliffe keenan both men in their twenty's have each been given a four year prison sentences for creating facebook pages that in. cited this despite
10:34 pm
the fact that the page created by black shot called smash down in north which town resulted in nobody showing up for the so-called riot and it sucked live keenan's case he drunkenly created the page then took it down the next morning so no riot ever occurred but the judge who made the ruling called the facebook plotting an evil act and said that he hoped the harsh sentence would be a deterrent to would be rioters but insanity did not stop there forty eight year old thomas downey is now going to jail for sixteen months after he took a box of krispy kreme donuts from a store in manchester during the riots downey who admits that he has a drinking problem took a box of donuts after the store had been looted and he says he didn't cause any damage when he stumbled into the bake shop and took the donuts because he was hungry and when twenty cleats officers arrived at the store in manchester he was arrested and charged downey actually had just gotten out of jail that day so he's no stranger to prison he's add more than one hundred convictions for two hundred thirty three offenses during his during his life but if he deserves sixteen months
10:35 pm
in jail for taking a box of donuts i thought i would think so now apparently looting isn't the only crime the u.k. is cracking down on we have another case connected to crackdown after riots on social media police have been searching twitter facebook and blackberry messenger to track down people who took part in the rights and during their search police also arrested a twenty year old from cole chester his crime he was trying to round up people for a large water fight now the man's name hasn't been released of police found a message about the water by blackberry messenger and on facebook so he's going to appear in court next month to answer charges in that case you might recall british prime minister david cameron said the police will be targeting social media to crack down on rioters and future protests everyone actions will be struck will be struck by how they were organized by social media free flow of information can be used for good but it could also be used for so we are working with the police the intelligence services and industry to look at whether. right to stop people
10:36 pm
communicating via these websites the services but we know they are pretty violent disorder and criminality. so i guess that a water fight now qualifies as violence disorder and criminality and maybe i am insane but i would just call that done so looks like the mighty u.k. is following in the footsteps of countries that it was condemning just months ago. and now while president obama finishes up his bus tour that he claims isn't for campaigning purposes there's one thing that's really standing out about the stops that he made or even more so the stops that he didn't make as representative maxine waters noted he didn't make any stops in black communities in fact the congressional black caucus feels that the president has been ignoring the plight of black americans altogether. obama aims to keep white voters on board well we want to be on board too. now while obama prepares his new jobs proposal to fix the entire economy the congressional black caucus has been on a five city tour this month to address the issue and the figures for black
10:37 pm
communities make the national unemployment numbers pale in comparison if we go by the official numbers used by the government agencies the youth three the national unemployment is at nine point two percent unemployment rate for african-americans is fifteen point nine if you look at african-americans ages sixteen to nineteen that's at forty one point four percent so should the president be creating jobs program jobs programs specifically geared towards just the black community and are is the black community getting frustrated enough to turn their back on this country's first black president or discuss this with me is writing fellow at the american prospect thanks so much for being here tonight we have got for starters do you agree here with maxine waters when she says that president obama isn't keeping the black community on board i don't necessarily agree i think personal drama is doing the best it can we come to keeping the boy commuting aboard the issue is that obama's approach in that every american and it would it would actually in the end appear number of supporters community if
10:38 pm
a person of them were to begin turning his focus explicitly towards americans yeah but at the same time the african-american vote is a huge vote for president obama just the same way that the latino vote is a huge blow to president obama and so we say you know we see the same kind of disaffection coming from the latino population saying you made us a lot of promises and you are delivering great. that is absolutely true but again true first of all mr walker careful line here the economy is already doing poorly his support among white voters already you're slipping at a higher rate than previous democratic presidents so even if he wants to put out an explicit jobs program for both you know for african-americans it's a tricky tricky one of us to walk i think the solution is to actually just grow jobs proposals that help all americans or is it because it's a tricky line to have to walk or is it because he already knows that he's going to get his vote i want to play another clip here from maxine waters and this is something that she said in detroit on tuesday. this is all right you.
10:39 pm
know you tell us. this conversation. we want to give an error free opportunity for people. to implement is unconscionably. we don't know what the strategy is we don't know last one district. we don't know. so here she's saying to the congressional black caucus that she is ready to take on president obama she's ready to be tough but they're saying that we need a you right we need the voters we need to constituents to allow us to do that because apparently in the past they feel like al faced a backlash right i don't know what is it is that a sense of betrayal or how would you describe that i think it's a few things first it's. called this isn't a position right now because the democratic minority in the house already year for it on the margins of things because the tea party republicans and republican party
10:40 pm
writ large in the house are the ones who have a maneuvering room right now president obama's naturally focusing his attention on those folks and as a result not only do a liberal democrats of all traipse hits are ignored but in particular caucus precisely because they tend to be stalwart supporters of the president regardless so you think that it's more of an excuse for perhaps their inaction because they're the ones that install supporters of the president or are they actually scared of their constituents the way that maxine waters is saying here i'm not sure i don't think they're scared constituents but majority of members of the congressional black caucus come from districts where you know democrats are sixty percent below a tree and they're going to be reelected regardless of what happens i think it's a genuine feeling of powerlessness and also probably a little bit of an excuse i think it sounds like a little bit of an excuse but it really is incredible to me right i mean i just named off some of the speakers here and that's you three right says the national plan. it is nine point two percent really it's above sixteen percent but one of the
10:41 pm
figures for african-americans specifically are so much higher and yet if you look at a recent washington post a.b.c. poll eighty six percent of blacks approve of president obama's performance how do you put two and two together why are you so happy about still if there is such high unemployment if people are from ages sixteen to nineteen almost fifty percent are unemployed i think so during the bush administration i've been vocal support of bush because i can disappoint him on those for going to the reasons he was one of them i think you're seeing something similar about americans president obama yes they care about employment and education but also there's a certain cultural pride back home for you know african-american president even with parents though there's still a lot of support they don't want to see. they be disappointed but they don't want to so no matter what happens at the end of the day if the economy continues to be this bad if that employment level continues to be this high when it comes to twenty twelve they're going to vote for him again i think that's true of anyone who
10:42 pm
identifies as a liberal moderate democrat if you're going to be people vote their party well i think a lot of people are starting to question that right now right there is a lot of anger towards obama but unfortunately at the end of the day do you think the people i've always falling in line going i just voting for their guy again because they don't want the other party to be in power but you know i just feel like there has to be maybe some other kind of option but you specifically don't think that there should be a jobs program geared towards african-americans i think i think there ought to be conditions are bad enough you know you need that it justifies its programs specifically for americans but i political it's not good thing it's beautiful if a jobs program for everyone is not feasible then i have a hard time imagining a world where congressional republicans suddenly feel bad for the community and want to know what it's going to what you have is you have congressional republicans that like to speak of the black community the way that tom coburn did today as you know an entire population that lives off of the welfare state these are people who are dependent on. government so at the same time you could use that as an excuse to
10:43 pm
say let me get them off if that's the way you think of it and i'll create a jobs program for them but we'll have to see what is happening this jamal want to thank you so much for joining us. now still to come tonight he calls himself the modern day harriet tubman for stand up for standing up to democrats we call b.s. on this congressman tonight we are told time of war last michele bachmann fears the so healing in a real another cold war and anderson cooper he told it like a little girl on a hair happy hour is coming up next. you know sometimes you see a story and it seems so silly you think you understand it and then you glimpse something else here's some other part of it and realize that everything is ok you don't know i'm sorry is a big. deal
10:44 pm
10:45 pm
we never got the look as they're very safe get ready to get their freedom. all right it's time for tonight's jewel time award and tonight it goes to florida congressman allen west jason's arriving in congress this year our west has made quite a name for himself as a plainspoken take no prisoners kind of lawmaker some people find him appealing i find him crazy how last guy congressman west was on fox news to discuss the congressional black caucus and their anger directed towards president obama but
10:46 pm
listen to his take on this issue. if you have this twenty first century point of social move is spread out there where the democrat party has forever taken the black vote for granted and you have established certain black leaders who are nothing more than the overseers of the plantation and now the people in that part of those are off serve because they've been disregarded difference because of their concerns with our care about so our viewers the modern day harriet's of windsor canada leave people of the underground railroad away from the plantation of their to a sense of civility. ok now the congressman definitely has a point about the black community being taken for granted by politicians we just spoke about that congressman west actually comparison itself to harriet tubman i'm going to go ahead and say that i think he's giving himself a little bit too much credit just a quick history lesson here right harriet tubman born into slavery in the south after escaping slavery traveling to the north she made thirteen trips back down south to rescue more than seventy slate's she is a network of anti-slavery activists and safe houses which were called the
10:47 pm
underground railroad she was a truly great american i'm not so sure that we can say the same thing about allen west he was elected to congress last november in south florida and since arriving in d.c. he's made headlines for his many very offensive statements just a few weeks ago he became enraged at belo florida congresswoman and d.n.c. chair debbie wasserman schultz remember this famous e-mail that he fired off two or . and he said you are the most unprofessional and despicable member of the house of representatives if you have something to say to me being a coward say it to my face otherwise shut up focus on your own congressional district you have proven repeatedly that you are not a lady therefore shall not be afforded due respect for me does that seem very perry at tubman like to you calling a fellow lawmaker of violent unprofessional that actually kind of seems violent unprofessional to be but just
10:48 pm
a few months ago the congressman angered people over his comments on being gay. oh tommy come on no. i mean you know. you know chocolate chip ice cream and i will continue like chocolate chip ice cream you know so there's no worry about me changing the bill. so he is that being gay is just like picking an ice cream flavor if it were that easy now the congressman is also no fan of islam he has made several comments about muslims including getting into a public shouting match at a town hall meeting in florida. the call. for you. yeah the congressman also loves to spread islamophobia and that's just
10:49 pm
a brief sample of allen west work since he arrived here in washington so does he act like a modern day harriet tubman you decide but i'm going to say no he's a hate cold tea party bully who can't work with gays and law as long as women or the congressional black caucus so far as harriet tubman comparison are going to give republican congressman allen west tonight's tools i will work. ok time for happy hour tonight joining me this evening is archie producer jenny churchill and my craig's associate editor at reason magazine and reason dot com. thanks for joining me guys. we have decided to show that michele bachmann is just the gift that keeps on giving and then this woman i love that she's running for president i'm a little scared that she's running for president i also love that she's running for president because of this stuff she says just provide so much material and the
10:50 pm
pictures that obviously are taken of her but here's a new clip of her this something that she said on a radio show take a listen. where graphics i was there's a united states is there are proper porcupine to write the china right there right there so here. are your words here already. i don't know if you're going to be the president you may want to know which countries are rising and which ones don't even exist anymore maybe the soviet union i mean what's frightening to me is this seems to happen often we hear about politicians talking about how they're frightened of the soviet union it's like the ultimate bogeyman actually that does not exist because our politicians are old and they're still back in the court order a number of them especially those that i think is going to be a special michele bachmann thing wishing elvis a happy birthday on the day that he die john wayne the cowboy with john wayne gacy
10:51 pm
the serial killer i almost just think like her brain is sort of like a lottery machine if you want to while a ball spits out and whatever it is that's what she's going to say ok solutions on point like occasionally she says sensible things to other times it really feels like she's just like plucking ideas out of the air and dropping them interesting times really honestly would not be surprised if you asked her a question about the berlin wall if she would answer honestly as though it were still there i really do think that it's not dishonesty it's just being wrong i mean i think she honestly believe that it's a very very very. you know colonial america warning the british that the british are going to like yes of course well we actually have another one like i said the gift that keeps on giving here's another clip of her today where she said something that was ridiculous i am one little fighter we need one strong arm barrier on very at and i know i'm very apt to go and stand for you in washington d.c. . ok i don't know about being time to get the latino vote out there but then at
10:52 pm
least i also get the language right there's no such a word in spanish as. for a woman right now. yeah there is no it spanglish no i mean it's really fascinating you know she wants to build a wall a wall all the way between us and mexico and she insists on appropriating their language you can't have it both ways ok if you want to even do this right i mean if you want to use new terms in that into spanglish you know you've got in by people who help you build that language it's i don't know i just admire her chutzpah of the over that's going to say that that's not going to check out ok well now let's move on to let's play a clip of somebody who we all know very well has been compared to michele bachmann is just as annoying just as crazy and you know we see her on t.v. all the time too and this is something we have particular heard a lot from her about. is someone who sees america as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country.
10:53 pm
right this palin around with terrorists thing obviously is something that obama had to deal with for a while because the bill ayers the funny thing is that the story came out today and sure called this place but i just have to you know i have to know the contradictions here and campaign staffer for a congresswoman michele bachmann it was arrested and imprisoned by the ugandan government secret police for alleged terrorism related activities nobody's talking about it right and i care honestly. at the same time if this was a campaign staffer for obama can you imagine what we would be hearing right now i know because he's a christian warrior and he's he's the good kind of god's going oh ok all right i realized who the terror is and we go out and say that we're the media probably the nation is in crisis we're suffering from michele bachmann fifty jobs are no longer the problems that bachmann won't shut up but then also the reason people are paying
10:54 pm
attention this is the evidence is mounting that there's no way she could win a general election absolutely no way i think it would be great for a visit this book on he got that. from my mouth and i know because. i think that's ridiculous think it's interesting to point out that this would be a huge story we've been hearing about everywhere i was in the matter who it is any democrat candidate right that was out there they would be following this up. now and still speaking presidential elections. there is an ad that was put out by ron paul supporter regarding rick perry and it's a have you ever had sex with a risk with rick perry are you a stripper an escort or just a young highly impressed by an arrogant entitled governor of texas contact. cash and we will help you publicize your direct dealings with a christian buzzword spouting family values hypocrite and a rod that was put into the austin chronicle how much do you think but
10:55 pm
using the name cash for their organization is kind of to imply i will give you money. this is what i didn't know i'm sorry you ever had with rick perry did i think we were done that before if we ever see metaphor to him again you are using or you have never had sex with barack obama with charlie crist who was the. one allegations he was gay a lot of newspapers. came really close and journalists in florida still like to talk about like how close they came to that one club boy who like being charlie crist but i just think if rick perry had been doing this with his just incredible hair which i think this is what this is all about and as a matter of incredible him slightly offended i don't think there's anything wrong with being gay but i think if you were well i think this is my problem i think that this is like kind of funny to laugh about oh my gosh they put an ad in there you know whatever however i do generally not agree with outing people for any reason i just i don't think that it's i know you're like oh my gosh if you are
10:56 pm
a family values issue and you also consistently talk about not giving a certain group of people rights that i think you should be outed i understand that but i just personally do not believe you show you how to. interject here but like if he's gay there's like what if he's not what if he's not and it's just and then you know i don't know. what is true is rather. interesting but from last night. they should thank their lucky stars it wasn't their part to. actually number one. but. over at the alligators it brought his show last night he was doing a monologue about gerard depardieu peeing in the aisle of an airplane and he was gratified by you want to. come and see awkward but like he actually last like
10:57 pm
a little like a little humility girl would like that and i go i don't agree with everything interesting cooper says williams kind of refreshing it was cute is real you know what she really it's amazing that i was in the united states actually a preview for his upcoming talk show. this is still part of that strategy that i do next. is going to be the lead pretty verses newscaster i have a personality that's a virtual shout out here are you thanks for. being for tuning in and make sure you come back tomorrow david at's reporter for wired games begin will be joining us to discuss whether or not pakistan left the chinese see ourselves after and it even matters now in the meantime though because the fan of the longest on facebook all of us on twitter if you missed any of tonight's show or any other nice catch hell of. a lot of sales and coming up next it's an inverse of that.
