chaos and human rights groups say judges and politicians have gone too far. and even leaders promise of a single economic government fails to reassure anxious investors and type in the markets as a fresh trouble over greece and once again the presence of going to. hungary's new media law has created quite a stir in the e.u. with the setting up of a new government controlled authority. spoke with the country's foreign affairs committee vice chairman i talked about the controversial initiative and the impact it might have on the freedom of press. it's not been long since hungry handed. the presidency to poland and president mr o'brien has been pushing ahead with his controversial new media laws we're joined now by the vice chairman for the foreign affairs committee at the parliament here in hungary thank you very much for joining us now to press freedom is
8:32 am
a fundamental principle of the do you think the hungry some even further away from the. other has been a lot of talk especially in the last half year about a new values and standards we never really know what this exactly means i mean. and i don't quite think that the e.u. has an almighty right to determine where ly be boundaries of such principles we never really heard there critically a definition of what exactly it is values are what exactly are the fundamentals of these principles and what are the details where exactly are the boundaries of these so this is always a contentious issue i mean every country every nation state which the e.u. consists of has its own media law it has its own institutions that safeguard the freedom of speech or the freedom or for press so even in the e.u.
8:33 am
the opinions are very media law have been very diverse it has received criticisms and it has also been defended by some politicians in the e.u. of course the green and the liberal fraction of the european parliament has been very hysterical about it. i can understand some of their criticisms but on the other hand in this country we have a long history of where people from outside try to tell us what to do for a long time it was for moscow for fifty years now we have people coming around from brussels from washington rating on the area freedom of press freedom of speech and . trying to tell us what kind of rules are the best for hungary and we had in this country in the past twenty years during the history of from gary in democracy so to speak previous media law which was very far from perfect. and there were a lot of instances where the freedom of speech has been very seriously
8:34 am
attacked on the the under the umbrella of this media law that we never heard anybody say anything in europe or outside of europe criticizing this media law so i think that we have to be very careful when we when we judge this of course we have our valid criticisms against this law. to say about the ways in which the law itself was introduced that some people saying that it was done with a lot of secrecy and it seems to be a little bit underhand what can you tell us about that i think it is very unfortunate turn to two thirds majority what the government has in hungary at the moment is used to push through a law very quickly and with. very careful consideration first of all i know that there is a huge enticement to do things very quickly and pushing through laws. now that they even have a majority to change the constitution. but i think that the danger is that the
8:35 am
law is going to be imperfect this law is imperfect from the point of view that for instance the pella gets to this media were to are purely it's very one sided it's not a balanced authority only thing that's members are being delegated into this authority . the leader of this authority is appointed for nine years which is a long it's in the public office that's a long long time you know i mean during nine years more than two elections go past you know and i think it's very unfortunate some people are kind of. stuck to their position you know for nine years the delegates are appointed by the prime minister which is very unusual. the minimum would be that the parliament appoints them and there is some kind of proportionality within this authority and some delegates of all of the opposition can also be there because we think that is
8:36 am
that would bring. the kind of balanced overview supervision to this authority how much of a threat i'll be in those i think that's great and i don't think it is going to impact that much on press freedom press freedom in this country has been it has a long history to say the least in this country we used to have for fifty years. media that was completely centralized run by the party of the communist party of hungary following this we had a very very liberal media law but the previous the pretty set of this media was extremely liberal. in hungary and journalism newspapers televisions radios the majority of people who used to work in the previous era used to work in a dictatorship i don't know with somebody coming from the west and.
8:37 am
the situation here i believe just to draw parallels this is. because second world war germany you would have journalists that have written articles in the focus should be dead before the end of the second world war you see it's a very obscure situation and the problem is that we have a lot of in the past twenty years we have a lot of accumulated grief. emanating from the media though in this country we have a very very wrong sided very one sided liberal and left wing type of journalism which needs to be balanced and there's no question about it but i think that now depended on. somehow struck the other direction. so i understand the reaction what i think it has gone too far on the other end some people describe this is big government taking a loan to the media there's been a lot of layoffs all the government is trying to cut. their own people and it's not
8:38 am
tree i'm not a media expert but. i think there are very few people in this country including the socialists who are the loudest about this about this situation there are very few people in this country including them. three. very a national media as are not oversized in terms of employment i mean. some kind of rationalization. was long overdue everybody has been always talking about it the socialists have been talking about it when they were in government. this government has not only talking or been talking about it but they have laid people off because they saw that it is unsustainable. so i think. this debate has become very politicized it's more about politics than about professional comments see i mean if something is unsustainable you have to cut costs and if if something is
8:39 am
overbroad criticized. you know you're going to have people laid off so. based on this new media law i think the whole media needs a bit of rethinking including the national media and that is going to be. that is going to hurt some people that's the unfortunate consequence of such a situation why did he. say they carry on this particular issue when as he said it's ignored other very important issues that have been happening here in the country why do you think that he chose this issue to speak out save a clear about it was an ideological and political. attack now we have a right wing government. right and government is always attracted by the left wing liberals in the european parliament this is our past experience. how this works we can only guess we have a socialist party in this country which has extremely good connections in the european parliament. and in the european media and this government the audubon

government and i'm seeing this being in opposition so i think this somehow add some value to what i say. in the. in between ninety eight and two thousand and two this bank government already had one term and it was very interesting to see. the volume. and. extensiveness of this criticism that this government has received from outside of hungary and you can exactly exactly identify who those people are where the sick criticism comes from and what is the direction of the criticism it is which has something to do with with the fear of for a dictatorship being introduced to hungary you know things are and i mean nothing like that happened exactly and when the socialist government ran this country for eight years nobody said a single word in the european parliament and in the e.u.
8:41 am
although we know and it was admitted that the one variant government the socialist government forces. economic statistics that were submitted to the european parliament which is criminal. you had the two thousand and six issues when the people were shot on the streets who went on the streets to demonstrate against a prime minister who made a speech this interest leaked where he admitted to have lied day and night about the economic and other situation in the country and he won the elections through lies and this this speech was leaked out and there was a pro in this country. nobody else seems to care in the whole world and the democratic world that usually are worried about democratic values or the values of the european union whatever they might be. how they are being respected in this country so i think that there is an extremely strong double standard against this

country. which also manifests itself in the criticism that this may be a little has received thanks very much for joining us thank you very much. lou i. see.

new coach has attracted a guy bearing cup winners' natural source and and carol because solve among other quite capable players with a major playoff experience i'll say our side was part of the playoffs last year along with the final is a great experience so it's a it's very allowed to have the crosshairs i really enjoy playing the flat side is something that you work for every year scott began their preparation in the czech republic where the squad concentrated mainly on gaining strength and that stance was followed by a brief training camp and that seems home base in st petersburg where the head goes as laid down strategy and tactics for the remainder of the pre-season has been a tough training camp so far everybody's working to get in shape around. you know i'm good seems are some of the work out. there going on right now scars first spend a match in st petersburg show that this side is ready to reach new heights and make a joke and that sentiment echoed with the fans as well as that scene delighted
