sentences handed to those who played only parts of the chaos as human rights groups say judges and politicians have gone too far. and in other news from us that had made the headlines of the week the eve leader's promise of a single economic government fails to reassure anxious investors and fresh trouble over greece and once again threatens stability. hungary's new media laws created quite a stir in the e.u. with the setting up of a new government controlled authority asking sarah first spoke of the country's foreign affairs committee vice chairman to talk about the controversial initiative and the impact it might have on the freedom of the press. it's not been long since hungry handed. the presidency to poland and president mr albright has been pushing ahead with his controversial media law we're joined now by the vice chairman of the foreign affairs committee at the parliament here in
4:32 pm
hungary thank you very much for joining us now press freedom is a fundamental principle of the do you think the hungry some even further away from the valleys. where there has been a lot of talk especially in the last half year about you how are you going standards we never really know what this exactly means i mean. and i don't know i think the vu has an almighty right to determine where ly the boundaries of such principles we never really heard they're critical your definition of what exactly these values are what exactly are the fundamentals of these principles and what are the details where exactly are the boundaries of so it is always a contentious issue i mean every country every nation state which the e.u. consists of has its own media law has its own institutions that safeguard the freedom of speech or the freedom or for press so even in the e.u.
4:33 pm
the opinions about the hungarian media law have been very diverse it has received criticisms and it has also been defended by some politicians in the us of course the green in the liberal fracture in the european parliament has been very hysterical about it. i can understand some of their criticisms but on the other hand in this country we have a long history of where people from outside try to tell us what to do for a long time it was from moscow for fifty years now we have people coming around from brussels from washington rating hungary and freedom of press freedom of speech and. trying to tell us what kind of rules are the best for hungary and we had in this country in the past twenty years during the history of hungary and democracy so to speak previous media law which was very far from perfect. and there are
4:34 pm
a lot of instances where the freedom of speech has been very seriously attacked on the the under the umbrella of this media law and we never heard anybody say anything in europe or outside of europe criticizing this media law so i think that's we have to be very careful when really when we judge this of course we have our ballot criticisms against this. to say about the ways in which the law itself is introduced that some people are saying that it was done with a lot of secrecy and it seems to be a little bit on the hand what can you tell us about that i think it is very unfortunate when a two thirds majority what the government has in hungary at the moment is used to push through a law very quickly and without very careful consideration first of all i know that there is a huge enticement to do things very quickly and pushing through laws. now that they
4:35 pm
even have a majority to change the constitution. but i think that the danger is that the law is going to be imperfect this law is imperfect from the point of view that for instance the delegates to this media storage we are purely it's very one sided it's not a balanced authority only for this members are being delegated into this authority . the leader of this it's origin is appointed for nine years which is a long it's in the public office that's a long long time you know i mean during nine years more than two elections go past you know and i think it's it's very unfortunate where some people are kind of. stuck to their position you know for nine years the delegates are appointed by the prime minister which is very unusual and the minimum would be that the parliament appoints the i mean there is some kind of proportionality within this authority and some delegates. of the opposition can also be there because we think
4:36 pm
that is that would bring. the kind of balanced overview supervision to this authority how much of a threat are these in those i think press freedom i don't think it is going to impact much on press freedom press freedom in this country has been it has a long history to say the least in this country we used to have for fifty years. media that was completely centralized run by the party the communist party of hungary following this we had a very very liberal media law the previous the pretty censor of this media was extremely liberal we had in hungary in journalism newspapers televisions radios the majority of people who used to work in the previous era we used to work in a dictatorship i mean i don't know if somebody coming from the west and.
4:37 pm
comprehend the situation here i believe just to draw parallels this is as if. course second world war germany you would have journalists that have written articles in focus should go back there before the end of the second world war you see it's a very obscure situation and the problem is that we have a lot of in the past twenty years we have a lot of accumulated grief. emanating from the media though in this country we have a very very one sided very one sided liberal and left wing type of journalism which he said be balanced and there's no question about it but i think that now depended on. that somehow struck me the other direction. so i understand the reaction what i think it has gone too far on the other end so maybe that's why this is the government taking a loan for the media there's been a lot of layoffs are the government just trying to cut from nato and put their own
4:38 pm
people in physicians and how is that tree i'm not a media expert but. i think there are very few people in this country including the socialists who are the loudest about this about this situation there are very few people in this country including them. in the area national media they're not oversized in terms of employment i mean. some kind of rationalization. was long overdue everybody has been always talking about it be socialists have been talking about it when they were in government and this government has not only talking or been talking about it but they have laid people off because they saw that it is unsustainable. so i think. this debate has become. very politicized it's more about politics than about professional comments see i mean if something is also staying the boy you have to cut costs and if if something
4:39 pm
is overbroad criticized. you know you're going to have people laid off. based on this new media law i think the whole media needs a bit of rethinking including the national media and that is going to be. that is going to hurt some people. but the unfortunate consequence substructure situation why did he speak out say very clear on this particular a shame when he said it's ignored other very important issues anything happening here in the country why do you think that he has this initiate speak out say very clear about it was an ideological and political. attack now we have a right wing government. right and government is always attacked by the left wing liberals in the european parliament this is our past experience how this works we can only guess we have a socialist party in this country which has extremely good connections in the
4:40 pm
european parliament. and in the european media this government the audubon government and i'm seeing this being in opposition so i think this somehow add some value to what i say. in the. in between ninety eight and two thousand and two this government already had one term and it was very interesting to see. the volume. and. extensiveness of this criticism that this government has received from outside of hungary and you can exactly exactly identify who those people are where the sick criticism comes from and what is the direction of the criticism it is which has something to do with with the fear of for dictatorship being introduced to hungary you know things are and i mean nothing like that happened exactly. when the socialist government ran this country
4:41 pm
for eight years then nobody said a single word in the european parliament and in the e.u. although we know this was admitted that hungary and government the socialist government falsified economic statistics that were submitted to the european parliament which is criminal. you had the two thousand and six issues when the people were shot on the streets went on the streets to demonstrate against the prime minister who made a speech this speech was leaked where he admitted to have lied the night about the economic and other situation in the country and he won the elections through lies and this this speech was leaked out and there was a pro in this country. nobody else seems to care in the whole world in the democratic world that usually are worried about democratic values or the values of the european union whatever they might be. how they are being respected in this country so i think that there is an extremely strong double standard against this
4:42 pm
country. which also manifests itself in the criticism that this media law has received thanks very much for joining us thank you very much. up team was a movie where the gold rush still gets people like chopped. this time margi goes to cure a region. where the local government is giving power back to the people. where everyone will be dumped. the locals turned their land into a terrorist paradox well come. close up on our.

a guy who is in now at the helm of scott st petersburg to go. sky had previously played very well in pre-season ok fine top spots in the conference and in the movie and in some problems or marshals who work on a state by state for the team to get it's going to stick in a very we'll build a man's to pay column moving hayward's in the regular championship without beating the drum i'm claiming that we are number one more number two we will simply work on it scott will start the new season without star players like alex a yosh and the other chad yannick he again a backup and maksim fish and ski however their presence will hardly be missed as the new coach has attracted the garden cup winners patrick source and and carol because salt among other quite capable players with a major playoff experience but also their size for the playoffs last year but the final is a great experience so it's it's hard. to have the process i really enjoy playing
4:51 pm
like i said it's something that you work for every year scott began their preparation in the czech republic where the squad concentrated mainly on gaining strength and that stance was followed by a brief training camp and it seems home base in st petersburg where the head coach has laid down strategy and tactics for the remainder of the pre-season has been a tough training camp so far everybody's working to get in shape and. you know i'm good scenes are a simple workout that they're going to right now scuzzy first random match in st petersburg show that this side is ready to reach new heights in the cage shell and that sentiment echoed with the fans as well as the team delighted supporters with a three two win over another cage hillside target over me geno girl mind you the match was hardly announced in the media and was held on a practice arena however it was still packed to the rafters crocus of the christmas new study very clear yet it's a pity that some of the stars of left the club and on the other hand i'm glad when

i hope to garner cup winners like patrick torsen defenses another pleasant surprise and sweet reaper formlessness from the mist our new coach is a controversial figure one i hope you will bring the result scott st petersburg have always been one of the top sides during the cage fills a regular season however once the playoffs dawned it seems efforts deflated and soon it was out of contention for the going caught some diehard fans and pundits who are inclined towards a mysticism even said that and it seem is under some kind of a playoff spill the realistic believe it's all about those involved hell they are the man from the banks of the ball river more commonly known as the scott think it is very we'll be looking to break that play of hex in the upcoming a season then you had coach miller said as a guy who already has that necessary postseason experience has built quite a capable side and it's helped that they knew a positions will be playing and scott's favor among calls for a forty in st petersburg. staying with hawk and since i'm the guy in cup win as i'd
