played only minor parts in the chaos as human rights groups say judges and politicians have gone too far. and promise of a single economical government fails to reassure anxious investors as fresh trouble over greece once again threatens stability. we'll keep you up to date with events from libya throughout the night but first hungary's a new media law has created quite a stir in the e.u. with the setting up of a new government controlled authority. spoke with the country's foreign affairs committee vice chairman to talk about the controversial initiative that might have on the freedom of the press. it's not been long since hungry handed. the presidency to poland and president there is still a ban has been pushing ahead with his controversial new media law we're joined now by the vice chairman for the foreign affairs committee at the parliament here in
6:32 pm
hungary thank you very much for joining us now press freedom is a fundamental principle of the do you think that hungary some even further away from the. stand with its maybe a little more there has been a lot of talk especially in the last half year about e.u. values and standards we never really know what this exactly means i mean. and i don't think the b.u. has an almighty right to determine where ly be boundaries of such principles we never really heard the clear definition of what exactly these values are what exactly are the fundamentals of these principles and what are the details where exactly are the boundaries of these so it is always a contentious issue i mean every country every nation state which the e.u. consists of has its own media law has its own institutions that
6:33 pm
safeguard the freedom of speech or the freedom of press so even in the e.u. the opinions about the hungarian media law have been very diverse it has received criticisms and it has also been defended by some politicians in the e.u. of course the green in the liberal fracture in the european parliament has been very hysterical about it. i can understand some of their criticisms but on the other hand in this country we have a long history of when people from outside try to tell us what to do for a long time it was for moscow for fifty years now we have people coming around from brussels from washington rating hungary and freedom of press freedom of speech and . trying to tell us what kind of rules are the best for hungary and we had in this country in the past twenty years during the history of hungary and democracy so to speak previous media law which was very far from perfect. and there were
6:34 pm
a lot of instances where the freedom of speech has been very seriously attacked on the the on the the embroil of this media law that we never heard anybody say anything in europe or outside of europe criticizing this media law so i think that we have to be very careful when we when we judge this of course we have our valid criticisms against this law. to say about the ways in which the law itself was introduced some people saying that it was done with a lot of secrecy and it seemed to be a little bit underhand what can you tell us about that i think it is very unfortunate when a two thirds majority what the government has in hungary at the moment is used to push through a law very quickly and without very careful consideration first of all i know that there is a huge enticement to do things very quickly and pushing through laws. now that they
6:35 pm
even have a majority to change the constitution. but i think that the danger is that the law is going to be imperfect this law is imperfect from the point of view that for instance the delegates to this media thora t. are purely it's very one sided it's not a balance for it to be only for us members are being delegated into this authority . the leader of this authority is appointed for nine years which is a long it's in the public office that's a long long time you know i mean during nine years more than two elections go past you know and i think it's it's very unfortunate when some people are kind of. stuck to their position you know for nine years the delegates are appointed by the prime minister which is very unusual. the minimum would be that the parliament appoints them and there is some kind of proportionality within this authority and
6:36 pm
some delegates. of the opposition can also be there because we think that is that would bring. the kind of balanced view supervision to this authority how much of a threat in those press feet and i don't think it is going to impact that much on press freedom press freedom in this country has been it has a long history to say the least in this country we used to have for fifty years. media that was completely centralized and run by the party the communist party of hungary following this we had a very very liberal media law the previous the previous answer of this media was extremely liberal we had in hungary in journalism newspapers televisions radios in the jointly of people who used to work in the previous era who used to work in a dictatorship i don't know if somebody coming from the west and.
6:37 pm
comprehend the situation here i believe just to draw a parallel this is as if in. second world war germany you would have journalists that have written articles in the focus should be there before the end of the second world war you see it's a very obscure situation and the problem is that we have a lot of in the past twenty years we had a lot of accumulated grief. emanating from the media or in this country we have a very very one sided very one sided liberal and left wing type of journalism which is to be balanced and there is no question about it but i think that now the pending. somehow struck really the other direction you see. so i understand the reaction but i think it has gone too far on the other end some people describe this is the government taking a loan to the media there's been
6:38 pm
a lot of layoffs all the government just trying to cut their own people and power is that tree i'm not a media expert but. i think there are very few people in this country including the socialists who are the loudest about this about this situation there are very few people in this country including them that would say that the area national media is are not oversized in terms of employment i mean. some kind of rationalization. was long overdue everybody has been always talking about it the socialists have been talking about it when they were in government. this government has not only talking or been talking about it but they have laid the people off because they saw that it is unsustainable. so i think. this debate has become very politicized it's more about politics than about professional comments i mean if something is also staying the boy you have to cut costs and if if something is
6:39 pm
over bureaucratized. you know you're going to have people laid off so this whole based on this new media law i think the whole media needs a bit of rethinking including the national media and that is going to be. that is going to hurt some people. but the unfortunate consequence of such a situation why did they each east speak out say very clear on this particular machine when as he said it's ignored other very important issues that have been happening here in the country why do you think that he has this issue to speak out say very clear about it was an ideological and political. attack now we have a right wing government. and right wing government is always attacked by the left wing liberals in the european parliament this is our past experience. how this works we can only guess we have a socialist party in this country which has extremely good connections in the
6:40 pm
european parliament. and in the european media this government the audubon government and i'm seeing this being in opposition so i think this somehow add some value to what i say. in the. in between ninety eight and two thousand and two this bank government already had one term and it was very interesting to see. the volume. and. extensive mess of this criticism that this government has received from outside of hungary and you can mix in exactly identify who do those people are where the sick criticism comes from and what is the direction of the criticism it is which has something to do with with the fear of for a dictatorship being introduced to hungary you know things are and i mean nothing like that happened exactly and when the socialist government ran this country for
6:41 pm
eight years nobody said a single word in the european parliament and in the e.u. although we know this was admitted that the area government the socialist government forces. economic statistics that were submitted to the european parliament which is criminal you had the two thousand and six issues when the people were shot at on the streets who went on the streets to demonstrate against a prime minister who made a speech the speech was leaked where he admitted to have lied day and night about the economic and other situation in the country and he won the elections through lies and this this speech was leaked out and there was huge progress in this country. nobody else seems to care in the whole world in the democratic world that usually are worried about democratic values or the values of the european union whatever they might be. how they are being respected in this country so i think
6:42 pm
that there is an extremely strong double standard against this country. which also manifests itself in the criticism that this may be a law has received thanks very much for joining us thank you very much. it came here dr smiles policeman's wives minister's wife and i just. if you didn't find me if i could just live through the night that i would get my kids out of here because i knew that what was going to happen was that he was going to kill me many victims don't understand that domestic violence includes verbal abuse psychological abuse physical abuse and sexual abuse at least four million women are affected by abuse every year those are my only two options that i saw at

throw more. now i saw on the fourth season tips off in just a few weeks time clubs from five countries will take part of this year build up series by taking a look at one of russia's biggest names scott st petersburg. the success of any team begins and ends with a head coach this is somewhat of a sore point for the army men from russia's northern capital of st petersburg in twenty two and alone scars a star studded squad was led by three had coaches despite those revamping efforts by the team's board throughout the season the armaments still lost in the conference semifinals against atlanta from the moscow region by the way it's a clown's head coach militias you got who is in now at the helm of scott st petersburg to go get it which had previously played very well every season look at

buying top spots in the conference and when they leave and then some problems emerge with we work on it step by step going through the team of experienced in a very we'll build a man's to pick column and move the hands in a regular championship without beating the drum claiming that we are number one or number two we will simply work on it scott will start the new season without star players like alex a yosh and the other child yannick he again a buck off and mark seems to shinseki however their presence will hardly been missed as the new coach has attracted the guardian cup winners patrick taurus and and carol because solve among other quite capable players with a major playoff experience i'll see our side what are the playoffs last year along with the final is a great experience so it's it's hard. to have a good crowd i really enjoy playing black sabbath something that you work for every year scott began their preparation in the czech republic where the squad

concentrated mainly on gaining strength that stand was followed by a brief training camp and that seems home base in st petersburg where the head coach has laid down strategy and tactics for the remainder of the pre-season it's been a tough training camp so far everybody's working to get in shape or nah. you know i'm good scenes are some of the work. that they're going on right now scuzzy first man to match in st petersburg show that this side is ready to reach new heights in the cage and that sentiment echoed with the fans as well as that scene delighted supporters with a three two win over another cage hillside. mind you the match was hardly announced in the media and was held on a practice arena however it was still packed to the rafters brokers of the new study that are here you know it's a pity that some of the stars of left the club and on the other hand i'm glad when i hope to garner cup winners like patrick torsen defenses another pleasant surprise and splayed out reaper four minutes from we missed our new coach is

a controversial figure but i hope you will bring the result scott st petersburg have always been one of the top sides during the cage shell's a regular season however once the playoffs dawned it seems efforts deflated and soon it was out of contention for the guarin cup some diehard fans and bundy's who are inclined towards mysticism even said that the team is under some kind of a playoff spell the realists though believe it's all about those involved so they are the man from the banks of the ball river more common than known as the scott think it is very will be looking to break that play of hex in the upcoming season then you had coach miller said as a guy who already has that necessary postseason experience has built quite a capable side and it's helped so that they knew a position will be playing and scott's favor among cos rep for our team in st petersburg. staying with hot canted time guy in cup win as i became their campaign all september the ninth against all out favorites sky men have recently been
