race just about two weeks ago perry is fighting back he went on laura ingram as radio show to discuss why some republicans are attacking him for his outspoken and blunt socialist. look i'm not a. never have been and frankly i don't want to be i dislike washington i think it's a speedy place but our country. and i don't have the privilege to sit on the sidelines and watch your country be destroyed or. so wrecked thinks the washington is a speedy place but you just feel so compelled to save this country how noble of that you can't tell rick perry is trying to steal a page from barack obama because what was obama's even during the twenty eight or two thousand and eight presidential race hope and change. the system with this. just. because. this is.

so what perry is saying is that the exact same thing that barack obama said just a few years ago about washington it's broken you need someone new to come in and fix it but what's even better is if you think really really hard you'll remember the barack obama also didn't call him the outsider the george w. bush did the same thing during the two thousand president presidential race but most people understand that. being in washington is necessarily make you the smartest guy in the world they're watching experience about the only experience in the world market most people appreciate experience outside of washington. so bush ran as an outsider somebody who would come to washington and change the tone reach across the aisle to get things done and we all know how that one worked out but bush wasn't even the first presidential candidate tried outsider approach when it comes to winning the white house taking a memory back this far into

a new approach the same old experience is not relevant and you can have the are going to be in the wrong kind of experienced miners rooted in the real lives of real people and it will bring real results if we have the courage to change. yeah even bill clinton used the outsider label to try and bring james to washington so i think it's pretty safe to say there's nothing new about trying to be new to washington it's a general theme that all democrats and all republicans follow when trying to win the white house be the outsider hit the campaign trail that's washington saying the city is broken and you are the only one who can fix it and save us unless you win a little secret d.c. it's not going to change anytime soon certainly not because of the executive branch there is a well oiled machine going to place in this city people who live here are under the beltway bubble money runs d.c. not politicians and the supreme court just made it that much more difficult to change thanks to their ruling on citizens united so rick perry go ahead try to convince everyone that you're the outsider candidate for two thousand and twelve and you can change this cd plates for starters i'm not buying it and secondly it's

just an overused entire campaign trick that makes it sound even more like the rest of them and that's why you're getting tonight's told i work. now yesterday we spoke to firedoglake jane hamsher about protests in part of the white house those concerned for our environmental future risk arrest and all the sake for letting president obama know the keystone x.l. pipeline should be built by would stretch seven hundred miles from alberta canada to texas it would deliver seven hundred thousand barrels of tar sands oil a day and just one of the many reasons so many environmentalists are so worked up over it is because extracting oil from tar sands is a very expensive it's a very difficult process and it releases more greenhouse gases and other methods out there due to another really big blow to our already injured environment but it looks like the state department has found good in the keystone proposal because they released a statement that was favorable to the seven billion dollars project just today in

the statement that said that trans canada had reduced the risk of an accident to an acceptable level and the benefits outweigh the potential costs there's also commentary from canadian ambassador to the u.s. gary doer saying if you ask americans would you choose canada over the middle east they'd say yes well you know perhaps the pro canada approach also overshadows the potential threats of this pipeline as the department also estimated that there could be approximately one to two spills per year each greater than twenty one hundred gallons i hope or you know when you put it that way totally puts me was the deepwater horizon spill really that long ago that every forget about the horrific damage from that mess on at the state department given its blessing i'll be kind of shocked if obama doesn't agree to this plan so much the whole investing in alternative energy concept seems like just like everything else obama has another failed promise just added to the growing pile. now one of president obama's key allies into the two thousand and eight election may have just become one of his

worst enemies and fell c.e.o. president richard trumka has expressed his disappointment with the administration's policies and focus on deficits rather than jobs but he said that before but today speaking at a press breakfast he doubled down and he went on attack saying the president has aligned himself with the tea party and from his own words he said this is a moment that working people and quite frankly history will judge president obama on his presidency will he commits all his energy and focus on bold solutions on the job crisis or will you continue to work with the tea party to offer cuts to the middle class programs like social security all pretending the deficit is where our economic problems really lie trumka also else the a.f.l.-cio is going to form its own super pac and your friend withdraw the unions attendance at the upcoming democratic national convention so drunk and sirius is the biggest unions in the country don't back obama in two thousand and twelve now back to the day i was really be here to discuss this with me is my calculator a journalist and contributing editor for in these times like i so much for being

here and i mean to be on the show now before we get into what could be in the future let's backtrack really quick if you go back to the election in two thousand and eight talk about how big of a role unions play when it comes to organizing right when it comes to spreading the message you could even say basically campaigning for a democratic president you know i mean basically the unions were the biggest provider of money to the democratic party that provided hundreds of millions of dollars in terms of thousands of ground troops knock on doors you know union voters people that are union members even if it was you know world voters tend to vote much more democratic than nonunion members should be apparatus the education effort of organized labor really helps the democratic party is the backbone so basically if the president barack obama didn't have the a.f.l.-cio behind him for two thousand and twelve that would be a pretty big blow you know i think it would really hurt the president but how much do you think the trunk is actually fear. it's here when he gives these kind of threats and he says that i'm going to bed soon you we're not going to go to the d.n.c. we're not going to support you in the next election i mean this is just kind of big

talk but he's got to have me walk well in the same day that trump has said that at the christian science monitor press briefing he also told sam stone of hope and host the president is a great friend of organized labor compared to the republicans he is a giant so it really doesn't mean much in two thousand and nine if they're in the sort of the election altogether now we're just threatening to maybe not go to a convention so it's not that huge of a threat ok but so then in your mind you know if we think about you mentioned that you know so much money goes into the unions are the biggest. donors excuse me for democratic presidents how much of that money is money that perhaps you know the members of the unions they don't even necessarily get to choose where their money goes which campaigns. i mean do they ever feel like they're not being truly represented in what they want what their needs are with the way the laws work in this country have put up in order to give money to political giving but now with citizens united that line has been blurred so there's a lot of membership that's very upset with the democratic party and very upset with

the direction of it you know especially the failure to stand up and support working people of any type believe you are for the president repeatedly flies around with union busters like comcast see all the money we'll see you know it gee so there's a lot of anger and the you know we're going to get strapped with the democratic party because for one they don't want to have more republicans in power they don't have more attacks like that so they're kind of in this bind where they're between a rock and a hard place they don't really have a choice but they can do much more militant things outside of politics like quite well for instance we're the only big country where we're just focused on electoral strategy we have these huge wisconsin protests but they occupied a capital they shut it down there were strikes there was a lot of tension walker was negotiating before you try to pass through that believe there was a lot of tension and then we just said all right we're just going to or our strategy is an electoral strategy we're not going to do the type of workplace struggles that we saw in the one nine hundred thirty s. . but the type of direct action we saw in the one nine hundred sixty s. and electoral politics don't really work because it's a political game people have to make deals look at greece they have

a socialist government they're still cutting the budget they're still doing it i work with things because of where the political winds are at this time you have to have that tension in the street where you know big corporations have to make a deal politically and they don't feel like they have to make a deal with us at this point i'm just wondering q how much does that have to do with the union leadership with people like richard trumka and self that i'm sure are really nice big fat salaries even though they're the union bosses you know and as you mentioned as parcel one time or one morning he comes out he makes all these threats to president obama he spouts and angry words to a comparison to the tea party our slow blow but then the same day he's also telling other reporters that well he's still the best friend that we have so when you hear that a lot of union members are upset with the democratic party right now when you hear that they're upset with president obama. is their leadership still always going to align themselves with president obama or with the democratic party no matter what happens they're not going to maybe call for them to really put that kind of tension in the streets you know they're not and that's the big problem is that you have

people that trumka that you know they really enjoy getting invited to the white house they enjoy that type of access they haven't had that for a long time and they enjoy that type of thing and there's like the stockholm syndrome really really does are free to take on people in power and often it's relationships they have a lot of friends over there personal friends you know it's not even issue of money personal friends and the remove from most of the membership so you have president obama you know not really making a stand for workers and in one of the biggest you know attack on unions ever and you know trump is not willing to say anything about i mean you have the tar stance issue that you just brought up i mean look at all the environmental leaders are going to rush the white house look at all the gay rights leaders who got arrested and they got don't ask don't tell really good leadership has to do something. i mean not willing to do that they have this stockholm syndrome where they're caught in this kind of bind with it won't come out and attack me because right. you know obama's not listening to them he's not helping them so i don't know what they stand to risk by taking him on other than upsetting

take some time out to highlight a report that everybody should read see after a six month long investigation as center for american progress was released one hundred thirty page report called here inc the roots of the islamophobia network in america how they detail the flow of money that has allowed islamophobia to enter the mainstream in this country over the last ten years and it's no small amount in fact more than forty two million dollars has been poured in by seven foundations all of the hands of you so-called scholars experts who have tarnished our discussion by spreading hate by spreading fear most importantly by spreading lies see it would be naive to say that night eleven didn't permeate many american minds they didn't change our outlook on the world but at the same time americans still do believe in human rights and civil rights they wouldn't be convinced that some of us deserved. treatment deserved to be spied on a locked up or tortured of somebody wasn't feeding them lies and fear about those

individuals even lies about our own president and he's a secret muslim these i'm going to read this report to realize that the sudden upsurge in hate towards muslims or fear of shari'a can realize that it's been manufactured much like all the other issues that permeate our political discourse and convince americans that were also divided they have to understand that today grassroots movements grassroots movements they barely exist anymore these overwhelming emotions that bring americans together are rarely natural occurrences he takes money to organize to bus in protesters it takes money to conduct studies produce the literature pay experts and it also takes money to get a good city that you want to be a billboards posters fliers websites are a great p.r. team it sends out your press release contact media organizations tells them they've got a story just for them and the perfect guest available to talk about it the all of that takes a lot of money and it takes planning and unfortunately those willing and able to give them money and hire people to do the planning often they have

a message they want spray they were political goal and their own self interest in mind and that's how to get turning so if you're wondering why the ground zero mosque is the media called it even though it's a community center as well as a mosque it is located two blocks away from ground zero that actually has the name park fifty one if you're wondering why that became the biggest story last summer why fox news wouldn't give it out and volunteer cried about it when i have the perfect answer it was the money if you're wondering why we're suddenly seeing a surge in states across the u.s. passing anti shari'a legislation even though there is no evidence of creeping shari'a law and even though many of these lawmakers can't even define shari'a some states even coffee and paid to their paperwork on it for a week at pedia. there's a reason for that like i said not because she realizes actually. there is actually not a dime of proof for that it's because seven organising. supported forty two million dollars into making sure that states start thinking that it's a problem and the mainstream media is just so complicit in this entire scheme they

take those press releases they invite frank gaffney on and they call him an expert it's one thing to bring them on call them out on their lies convince americans that these are crazies that should not be listened to but to treat frank gaffney like an unbiased and the man that says that all of islam is evil the president is a muslim is outreach to the muslim world as proof that he himself is a radicalized of the muslim brotherhood is trying to infiltrate the republican party i mean i could go on for an hour with his crazy statements but this man is not only crazy and a bigot he's one of the key people have been getting this money put into his organizations over the years and it's something that we've long spoken about on the show and something it thankfully the center for american progress has been able to devote resources to to connect the dots to put it down on paper and investigate properly the next time that somebody tells you they're afraid of shari'a law creeping into their country tell them just read this report.

time that the soft bastards do this in the lake is a wonderful example of soft power and how you actually are the way that we're going to be going to take over the planet is through you know pizza hut and burger king and what's actually funny is is often times how are really crappy food in the united states is viewed in other countries. there are places in the middle east where you guys will take their girlfriends on in my state to burger king. it's like that's like the mood to. go. right here to go if you're anything. but you know it's very true i mean i've been to you know other countries where there are huge lines of the mcdonald's for the same time some you think honestly like three stories high and they have a salad bar and they're actually fancy but the fast food they have really gets you know i went on a road trip the other weekend that frankly. driving all the time i think this happens for a lot of american families there is on the go you just get fast food and i could eat taco bell at least ten times

that was my movie like me and all of my heterosexual friends regularly for a glitter of people and we thought that was like a cool thing and that's a it's not cool but now we're just you know people are going to look at us like a maybe you are bachmann hating gays but it's really fine with me if you have it i don't really like that ok i'll do it anyway i'm not going to stop there and literally times i was disappointed i heard that this guy got baptized there and it was more of a sprinkling it was like a full immersion into glitter and i would have been friend tell you that is full of her yeah i would and i was your eyes and your ear is there like an allegory ok let's move on and talk about chuck norris whom you may remember from his role in walker texas ranger.

so even though jack yours is pretty good without a gun you know he's just not as i guess you could say is muscle there is it was really lame of me. chuck norris who always wants to stick his nose into politics has written an op ed basically warning about the dangers of an un arms trade treaty that's coming out that he basically says that the u.n. is going to be able to come into your home and steal all your guns and hide your y. and do all that. and at least some people actually called a bow and pointed out that this is ridiculous nobody listen to talk doris is completely wrong here but it's weird is it true course is usually right when when a nurse is always right ok you're right there is a reason or you're in danger of being hurt right here right now well it's specially when it comes to international gun laws and u.n. treaties usually if i get all put into a conniption trying to figure out what the hell is going on chuck norris is the first person i go to for the answers so the fact that he got this wrong like i don't know where am i going to home going to live at home who's going to teach me
