a perry is saying is well about the exact same thing that barack obama said just a few years ago about washington it's broken you need someone new to come in and fix it but even better is if you think really really hard to remember the barack obama also didn't could be outside of the george w. bush to the same thing during the two thousand president presidential race where most people understand that. being in washington would necessarily make you the smartest guy in the world that washington is about the only experience in the world remember most people appreciate experience outside of washington. so bush ran as an outsider somebody who would come to washington and change the tone reach across the aisle to get things done i think we all know how that one worked out but bush wasn't even the first presidential candidates try the outsider approach when it comes to winning the white house taking a very back this far. new approach this same old experience is not relevant and you can have the right kind of experience in the wrong kind of experience and mine is

with the administration's policies and focus on deficits rather than jobs but he said that before but today speaking at a press breakfast he doubled down and he went on attack saying the president has aligned himself with the tea party and from his own words he said this is a moment that working people and quite frankly history will judge president obama on his presidency will he commit all his energy and focus on bold solutions on the job crisis or will he continue to work with the tea party to offer cuts to the middle class programs like social security all pertaining the deficit is where our economic problems really lie trump also else the a.f.l.-cio is going to form its own super pac i mean friend withdraw the unions attendance at the upcoming democratic national convention so drunk a serious is the biggest unions in the country go back obama in two thousand and twelve for the damage really be here to discuss this with me is my calculator a journalist and contributing editor for in these times thanks so much for being here tonight to be on the show now before we get into what could be in the future

let's backtrack really quick if you go back to the election in two thousand and eight talk about how big of a role unions play when it comes to organizing right when it comes to spreading the message you could even say basically campaigning for a democratic president here i mean basically unions were the biggest provider of money to the democratic party that provided hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of ground troops and there were you know union voters people that are union members even if they're white you know world voters tend to vote much more democratic than nonunion members of the apparatus the education effort of organized labor it really helps the democratic party is the backbone so basically if the president obama didn't have the a.f.l.-cio behind him for two thousand and twelve that would be a pretty big blow well you know i think it would really hurt the president but how much do you think the trunk is actually theory is here when he gives these kinds of threats and he said. is that i'm going to bed soon you we're not going to go to the d.n.c. we're not going to support you in the next election i mean this is just kind of big talk but you've got to have you walk well in the same day that trump has said that

at the christian science monitor press briefing he also told sam stone of hope and post the president is a great friend of organized labor compared to the republicans he's a giant so it really doesn't mean much in two thousand and nine if you're interested at the election altogether now we're just threatening to me to not go to a convention so it's not that huge of a threat ok but so then in your mind you know if we think about you mentioned that you know so much money goes into the unions are the biggest. donors excuse me for a democratic presidents up until that money is money that perhaps you know the members of the unions they don't even necessarily get to choose where their money goes which campaigns they donate to you i mean do they ever feel like they're not being truly represented in what they want what their needs are whether we laws work in this country have to opt in in order to give money to political giving but now we citizens united that line as people are so there's a lot of membership that is very upset with the democratic party and very upset with the direction of it you know especially the failure to stand up and support working people any type of leader love for the president routinely flies around

with union busters the comcast c.e.o. likely will c.e.o. big g. so there's a lot of anger and the you know we're going to get strapped with the democratic party because for one they don't want to have more republicans in power they don't have more it actually that so they're kind of in this bind with it between a rock and a hard place they don't really have a choice but they can do much more militant things outside of politics like like. for instance with the only big country where we've just focused on a literal strategy we have these huge wisconsin protests but they occupied a capital they shut it down there were strikes there was a lot of tension walker was negotiating before we try to pass through that believe there was a lot of tension and then we just said. our strategy is an electoral strategy we're not going to do the type of workplace troubles that we saw in the one nine hundred thirty s. with the type of direct action we saw in one thousand. sixties and electoral politics don't really work because it's a political game people have to make deals look at greece they have a socialist government they're still cutting the budget they're still doing it i work with things because of the political winds are at this time you have to have

that clip of tension in the street where you know big corporations have to make a deal politically and they don't feel like they have to make a deal with us this point i'm just wondering how much does that have to do with the union leadership right with people like richard trumka himself that i'm sure you get really nice big fat salaries even though they're the union bosses you know and as you mention this part so one time or one morning he comes out and he makes all these threats to president obama he spouts and angry words your comparison to the tea party our slow glow but then the same day he's also telling other reporters that well he's still the best friend that we have so when you hear that a lot of union members are upset with a democratic party right now when you hear that they're upset with president obama . is their leadership still always going to align themselves with president obama with the democratic party no matter what happens they're not going to call for them to really put that kind of tension in the streets you know they're not and that's the big problem is that you have people that trumpet that you know they really enjoy getting invited to the white house they enjoy that type of access they

haven't had that for a long time and they enjoy the thing and there's like the stockholm syndrome where a leader leaders are afraid to take on people in power and often it's relationships they have a lot of friends over the way personal friends you know it's not even an issue of money personal friends and they're in the remove from most of the membership so you have president obama you know not really making a stand for workers and in one of the biggest you know attack on unions ever and you know trump is not willing to say anything about i mean you had the tar sands issue that you just brought up i mean look at all the environmental leaders are going to rest of the white house look at all the gay rights leaders who got arrested and they got don't ask don't tell the labor leadership has to do something that kind of tension and they're not willing to do that they have this stockholm syndrome where they're caught in this kind of bind with it won't come out and attack me people because right now or bombers not listen to them. he's not helping them so i don't know what they stand to risk by taking him on other than upsetting a few of their old friends interesting well i guess maybe they that we see richard trumka protesting outside the white house sad you know willing to get arrested

a six month long investigation the center for american progress has released one hundred thirty page report called here inc the roots of the islamophobia network in america how they detail the flow of money that has allowed islamophobia to enter the mainstream in this country over the last ten years and it's no small amount in fact more than forty two million dollars has been poured in by seven foundations all to the hands of a few so-called scholars experts that have tarnished our discussion by spreading hate by spreading fear and most importantly by spreading lots see it would be naive to say that nine eleven didn't permeate many american minds but it didn't change our outlook on the world but at the same time americans still do believe in human rights and civil rights they wouldn't be convinced that some of us deserve different treatment and deserve to be spied on a locked. tortured of somebody wasn't feeding of lies and fear about those individuals even lies about our own president that he's a secret muslim these i'm going to read this report to realize that the sudden

upsurge in hate towards muslims or fear of sharia realize that's been manufactured much like all the other issues that permeate our political discourse and convince americans that we're also divided they have to understand that today grassroots movements grassroots movements they barely exist anymore the overwhelming emotions that bring americans together are really natural occurrences it takes money to organize to bless in protesters it takes money to conduct studies produce literature paid experts and it also takes money to get publicity that you want be a billboards posters fliers websites are a great p.r. team it sends out your press release contact media organizations tells them that they've got a story just for them on the perfect guest available to talk about it the all that takes a lot of money and it takes planning and unfortunately those willing and able to give the money and hire people to do the planning and often they have a message that they want they have political goal and their own self-interest in mind and that's one of those good turning so if you're wondering live

a ground zero mosque is the media called it even though it's a community center as well as a mosque that is located two blocks away from ground zero and actually has a name park if you won if you're wondering why that became the biggest story last summer why fox news wouldn't give it up and politicians cried about it and i have a perfect answer it was the money if you're wondering why we're suddenly seeing a surge in states across the u.s. passing anti shari'a legislation even though there is no evidence of creeping shari'a law and even though many of these lawmakers can't even define shari'a some states even copy and pasted their paperwork on it for a week if he via. there's a reason for that like i said not because shari'a law is actually spreading there's actually not a dime of proof for that it's because seven organizations have board forty two million dollars it's. sure that states start thinking that it's a problem and the mainstream media is just so complicit in this entire scheme they take those press releases they invite frank gaffney on and they call him an expert
