to remain in libya to figure out what lies ahead for the country and play a role in its future fundamentally with the transitional government that's being put in place what you have here is a government that's been cherry picked by the west these are people that's aren't elected they all finish try and win the debate with the libyan people about why they're in any way more legitimate thing gadhafi i wouldn't say this is in any way a revolution the west western government basically bombing a path. of rebels and filling the vacuum left by gadhafi isn't in any way what i would revolution but that's something that i think more fundamentally than that there's been no sense from nato from western leaders what they were doing in the first place and they've not at any point had a coherent sense of what the mission is and there's a lot of talk a lot of grandstanding over the last few days about this a joke was on there was no mission creep through xander with no mission creep going on it was only because he didn't have any idea of what trying to achieve in the

free. free. free. download free volunteer video for your media. free media gondar tetons time. london based human rights group claims around five hundred people have been killed in syria during ramadan gardy of them civilians another group of activists released a report suggesting dozens of people including children have been tortured to death bars for taking part in the n.c. regime uprising but as our teams are ridiculous the reports all news coming from syria can't can't always be taken at face value. well the report really does not say much do you have to you have to make a note of the fact that the report said eighty eight people ten of them children are believed to have died in detention their porches also slammed to the syrian authorities for not providing enough information on the those into demons there
10:07 am
were no details however outlined of the circumstances in which these eighty eight people supposedly have died this is somewhat of a showcase of what else has been happening in the way things have been portrayed as happening in syria get constantly ports from various media sources western channels or major arabic networks which show demonstrations of people sometimes a little science being held by someone knowing person who is filming everything that's going on on the a mobile camera fall that looks like to be immobile camera phone most of the sources which anybody sides are anonymous there are reports coming from various other cities in the center of syria of syria for example or homes where reports of tanks entering cities are being broadcast there and coming through apparently in hama more uprisings have been happening as of late but in here in damascus things are really i believe could not be more peaceful when there were reports supposedly
10:08 am
of helicopters flying overhead and one major network we actually went outside walked all around the city didn't see anything but birds up in the sky so this is the situation that isn't damascus right now there have been no demonstrations at least in the center we are based right in the center of the syrian capital they have been no demonstrations no explosions no violence people are just continuing there in fact you know this is the end of the holy month of ramadan so people have been celebrating as a matter of fact going out to dinners and shopping and this is what has been going on we are we are another good instance of a media news mongering or warm or growing if you will is a case when in the middle of this month there were reports of thousands of palestinians being herded into a stadium. and is this you have the talk their ideas were allegedly taken away in their cell phones were taken away as well they were held there for several days and then and then apparently were released well when we actually went there if you can and spoke to the palestinians themselves they said that yes there were disturbances
10:09 am
in the city yes there were unknown people starting the skirmishes with the army and they are in their muslim quarter of town where the camp is based so the palestinians actually asked for refuge they were provided they were provided an option to go to a stadium so about two thousand out of seven thousand have went to the stadium they stayed there for three days they said the authorities have provided them with food and shelter and water and then they returned to their homes. to talk more about how the media covers the syrian conflict i'm joined now by james corbett based editor of an independent news website corbett report dot com thanks for being with us i assume you heard what our correspondent there rena have to say from damascus what is your take on the claims coming from the country. well you know i think it is important to note as i was that report did note that the embassy international report that comes out today is the type of attention getting headline grabbing a report that seems to go to fit in line with the dominant narrative of how the
10:10 am
syrian government is is of course just torturing people and killing a man will and in the something must be done to stop this but as the report pointed out of course the amnesty international report itself is based on eyewitness reports not on the phone and on the ground reporting and it's based on the ideas of people who are being implicated in this i mean the people who are part of the supposed opposition to this government so so it's a little bit like creating a report asking whether the same for the two thousand and eight financial meltdown and only talking to people from goldman sachs i mean we know which way you take the report is going to go and so there has to be some skeptical of the of these types of reports and i don't think we really need to do. remind people just how important it is to be skeptical of all media reports in these times especially when there seems to be a push towards rallying the public around a military intervention but but again it has happened time and time and time and time again and in recent history even
10:11 am
a little longer periods in history and we see it unfortunately perhaps coming to fruition again here in syria. i mean our media is relying on anonymous sources pictures of journalists pictures poor quality pictures i sense a shot at indistinguishable ok since really they're broadcast as real events i think that's fair. certainly not in fact there's even been the implication that some of the images we're being shown have been digitally manipulated and there have been reports of a little online that you can watch of footage that was taken in bahrain and said to be taken in hama and it's showing the same footage and different stations with different backgrounds digitally dropped in so there are some very strange things that are going on right now and unfortunately we live in an age where media manipulation is so easy that it starts to become more and more difficult to tell the reality from fiction especially when so many so much of the western media is controlled by so few corporations it does certainly raise the at least the specter
10:12 am
of that type of a whole scale manipulation but of course manipulation can be also much more subtle than that and and there are many different ways in which the media can steer a conversation towards the direction that the establishment wishes from from suppressing information that goes against the green to amplify new information that seems to suggest whatever the stablished is looking for framing the conversation in a certain way if we can frame the conversation to talk about whether or not that we need military intervention to stop the assad government that takes away from the real conversation that should be going on about how people who are genuinely concerned about the syrian people can be supporting the syrian people in doing what they need to do in terms of their respecting their own. the national sovereignty in their borders instead of just reliving libya and staging a military intervention which we have seen is greatly destabilize that country so again there's a lot of different ways that this works but again it is complicated by the fact that of course that there is not freedom of movement among journalists in syria so
10:13 am
it is difficult to to put together these reports and it has to be taken into account as well so in some respects perhaps the assad government is doing to its own some international players such as turkey for example think the situation has reached a point where changes would be too little too late do you agree with that. it might have reached that point in terms of the conversation that's being framed but once again it's a question of how the question is being put to the public and what kind of information that's based on and once again i mean there are there are many different ways that that can be done and it is not to say that the the the idea that information is contrary to the official narrative of the assad government attacking peaceful protesters is necessarily completely suppressed sometimes we see that there isn't a report from the a.f.p. that showed that the u.s. state department has been funding the syrian opposition and opposition in other of
10:14 am
the you suppose it spontaneous arab uprisings to the tune of fifty million dollars and there was a report in the washington post earlier this year that show that the syrian opposition has been packed back by the u.s. state department so so sometimes this information comes out but when it does it's generally reported on and quickly forgotten whereas anything that shows that even a suggestion that assad is just killing people at random and willy nilly in syria is given a lot of amplification so we see how that works and then that changes the way that will that we can even look at the situation whether it's too little too late and that sort of thing it really depends on our understanding of what's happening in a country which again is being completely framed by the media and just briefly now the syrian government says article eight for its getting these demonstrations you think back at least part of it well we certainly have to look at that possibility especially when you ask yourself what possible reason the assad government would have for attacking peaceful protesters while the scrutiny of the entire world as
10:15 am
a condom and the threat of military intervention is at least that is the least out there and on the table as these economic sanctions are closing in what would be the point of of this continued harsh crackdown it does suggest that destabilization could be happening by armed snipers and others being inserted into these situations in order to believe on your side. and if that's the case then it certainly is working beautifully it is being reported on by by western media in a very unclear good way and that's why it's again it's an incumbent on the public to always be skeptical of these types of reports and try to piece together things from from many different sources all right some very interesting points james corbett a soccer editor of the independent news website corbett report dot com thank you thank. your authority live from moscow still to come premature preparations. u.n. and wanted nobody's home israel trains and arms of the settlers ahead of september's

toxic one one suicide bomber blew himself up and therefore attract more people than any attacks that happened that's well known tactics for many terrorist across the world and we've seen that happening in iraq and afghanistan the leader of the chechen republic i was on good bit of disquiet those behind this attacks as criminals and he said that they have once again shown their true face as they have a nothing sacred with these attacks happening on one of the most important muslim celebrations. despite the tragedy. of all of the attacks well their plans the main festivities to mark the end of the pole with all the ramadan being held throughout the public here more on the muslims in moscow celebrating the eve you could log on to our dot com there you go from pictures of worshippers gathering in their thousands of the capital's mosques and spilling out onto the surrounding streets.

being in the euro zone is not so different from being in a straight jacket that's according to the president of the czech republic klaus speaking at an economic summit in austria the president also blamed euro for being responsible for the debt crisis that's currently ravaging you his comments growing hostility towards the single currency among nations once queuing up to join the prestigious club that as the czech prime minister also questioned his country's requirement to sign up with the currency bloc saying they were told it was a monetary union not a debt union but the e.u. leaders it maintains the crisis is temporary and the euro is safe and secure something that johan van over to the editor in chief of trends magazine disagrees.
10:19 am
the president is probably more right in the european politicians because. we are at the moment have a monetary union here in europe that has really very important structural handicaps and. the gaps we have and i was situation that has become a full blown crisis that is threatening. the further existence of the euro zone everything is done at the moment to arrive at such a situation where it would be rather shameful to accept the exit of the country the first possibility of course being greece but that should not lead as a strain terms of what is the real focus on what should be a dual focus of the discretionary and that he's going to have commissions to have a structurally healthy monetary union and unless we do something about that we will have one crisis country after another there is so much political capital invested
10:20 am
in this project that it's very hard to say impossible for the problem patients who are at the moment running this european council to give give up on the idea of a monetary union. it's a question of politics if you look at it from the economic point of view we have indeed the situation. is a lot more doubtful than the politicians like to admit the end of the euro if we go down that road it's still not stronger but the chances are increasing day by day in my analysis it will be germany that as we as we say will put out the lights in september palestine will be expecting the u.n. vote to recognize it as a fully fledged state but israel fears that decision may result in uprisings and it's reportedly started arming settlers and training them to face angry palestinians because polls there reports are preparing for quote said israelis might actually be calling for. the united nations might be meeting next month to

declare a palestinian state before more than half a million is really safe as they couldn't care less there has been so many decisions they cleared in the u.n. that have absolutely no meaning and are baseless un and wanted nobody's home but callous to me and say they'll be the ones now going home and like it or not nigeria and israeli settlers will soon find themselves citizens of palestine once the un recognizes palestine within these borders now there's no argument this is occupation international law apply for months now the israeli army has been fine tuning its response to the un vote. well above a lot of equipment a normal two hundred demonstrations of. stronger meds and some struggle some training a lot of reserves around twenty million dollars and the. army is also training

settlers in self-defense the working assumption of the israeli defense establishment is there comes a time that they will be confrontations between israelis and palestinians they fear that it will be marchers protests and in some cases even violence but it's an assumption and many would say overreaction that threatens to inflame the situation on the ground israel has been doing everything to. this whole idea of a broad and it's not only the palestinians it's short changing anything near the truth spreading also on their own population growth is not justified because at the end of it the what a palestinians are doing is a political third been trying to achieve religion timothy through politics and they think this is far better. to try to achieve with little or nothing through prayer or war and the irony is that the army might just be focusing its resources on the

wrong population you think of we are going going to leave the country the biggest danger though is that as these we defense forces prepare for a conflict people on both sides of the border begin to expect one policy r.t. tel aviv. time now for the latest business update written into. hello and a very warm welcome to the business update russia's ross net has struck a multi-billion dollar deal with the world's biggest oil company x. model john comes just months after the collapse of the tie up with b.p. the american firm will become main partner in exploring the potentially huge reserves of russia's arctic shelf inturn russia's state run oil group will take part in exploration projects in the u.s. including in the deep water off the gulf of mexico and in texas the initial investment is expected to be a path three point two billion dollars but the partnership plough as much as five
10:24 am
hundred billion dollars into the project will hold two thirds of the joint venture and exxon mobil one third. joining me now to discuss the issue as low as cooper from b g c heartless as cooper hello to use all the shares of its normal game to fall in the deal how investors seeing the tie up. well this share price reactions have a pinch huge in either x. on all of course there but i think there's a lot of potential to this deal but there are a lot of obstacles before it comes to realisation i mean some of the obstacles obviously are environmental concerns especially in the arctic shelf political concerns as well about doing business in russia and also technical considerations because trying to drill for oil in the arctic in the freezing cold weather and also in the black sea where you know the the sea is up to a mile deep all quite technically difficult so a potential jewel
10:25 am
a really big potential jewel for exxon which is the reason why they wanted to steal so much and not be evil to steal but it's not an easy jewel to extract shall we say . so could the deal boost foreign investor interest towards russian oil stocks and especially rosneft. you know i think there are still serious issues about the rule of law in russia of bribery corruption i mean you've got to remember it's not that many years ago that b.p. and shell effectively were forced to hand over to the russian state or russian state controlled companies big parts of their businesses and you know investors and companies do not forget back quickly having said that this tasty morsel of both the black sea and the arctic was just too too juicy for exxon to resist really and i think it as with anything it's a risk in return the return from getting into this area would be huge and therefore
10:26 am
exxon is willing to take the risks of doing business in russia but still comes just months after the british role giant b.p. fails to secure a similar russian company now b.p. is stuck in lawsuits with the russian partners so what impact does it make on the british major. port would be. he is one of the biggest most important part is business is the russian business and yet it's not longer had fits it's in terrible relations with its russian partners and that we can feel in the sort of court cases rumbling on of the battle of words that we see in the news papers so you know b.p. what company is it after the gulf of mexico oil spill after the the deal with rosneft hard with bad relations with its current russian partners what are you buying if you choose to invest in b. well you've got a good dividend but in terms of the structure that's still very much up in the air and so to be fair you know i think there are some big question marks looming over
10:27 am
b. and they miss this great deal but now exxon how has now made with was now. even mentioned that's drilling in the arctic is technically very difficult so how crucial is that this project is a success. well it's going to be many many years really before the you know the success of it can be gauged and i said you know the reason why i. came to this deal is because they can't get in the arctic by rail ask because of the environmental restrictions there's going to be an all lot of environmentalists looking very carefully what exxon was left to do in this area in this deal so let alone the technical problems the environmental worries will be considerable and then on top of that you've got all the political pop because well so i think this is a very exciting deal but it's not a done deal and it's not going to be an easy deal to extract value and extract from these areas all right the scoop from the party thank you very much for your
