why don't what's really happening to the global economy with much stronger no holds barred look at the global financial headlines cars report. the f.b.i. raids gibson guitars with guns a blazing so why are they picking a fight with this all american company to gives and c.e.o. and we just once. the president has. the immigrant rights movement they were promised hope but now in the british years are being moved to the side that is until the next election cycle when every vote counts so long as president obama trying to straddle the border with his immigration policy seems clear. and keep your friends close and your oil closer friends of libya are getting even more touchy feely these days with libya's oil supply in the future. so just how serious is this relationship getting.
8:01 pm
it's thursday september first eight pm in washington d.c. i'm christine for down and you are watching our team i want to start off with a story of an attack on something so american you can almost put it in the same category as baseball and apple pie i'm going to go rock n roll and more specifically one of the most well known instruments that has helped create and kid rock and roll a lot of not to mention jazz and country music as well for decades the gibson guitar well apparently federal agents in this country are taking issue with the one hundred year old company last week the gibson guitar factories in memphis and in nashville tennessee were raided some of the workers told they could face prison time it was the second rate at the gibson fact. reason two years this time agents
8:02 pm
confiscated oid imported from india that was apparently in violation of indian export law and they say that again the us government issued warrants based on its interpretation of another country's laws now there is a law in this country called the lacie act it requires companies to make detailed disclosures about what imports and also bars the purchase of goods export in violation of a foreign country's wants but if the law was followed that's going on here and we don't deal with is c.e.o. and chairman of different guitar corporation and describes the raid to me and also gave me his theories about why the f.b.i. is targeting his company well what happened was. you know i was at home coming into work and i got a call that federal agents to. come to the office. and are in my office sealed my office shut up already over their corporate headquarters
8:03 pm
and they have also gone to our manufacturing plants checking with the manufacturing plants ph you know over. two dozen are federal agents went into the plants. at gunpoint remove people shut down the manufacturing operations. and started to confiscate various kinds of wood. papers a computer hard drives i know there's a lot of theories out there right now in terms of why gibson specifically was targeted let me just get your theory i know you've had about a week to digest this and kind of look into it and talk to a lot of people what is your understanding in terms of why given was targeted. well it's not really i don't know. but the justice department is now talking to us we have been charged with. so there it's
8:04 pm
impossible for me to determine what is the motivation for singling us out and we are being singled out other companies are doing exactly the same thing with no consequences. so i'm usually we're being singled out for some reason no one has told us what it is and. some people say perhaps it's political motivation it may be but i don't know let's take this out of the give and store and take it to a bigger picture what do you think it says you know what everything you're telling me is true that you have followed all the laws and yet still you're being targeted by the f.b.i. by federal agents what do you think it says that this can happen in this country. i can't believe you know i can't believe it can happen in this country but it it is it has. and i think it's wrong i think it's unfair and i think that we need to
8:05 pm
change the law to allow people not to suffer this kind of intimidation. you know in the future not just gibson but any any. business person. you know there are critics who say that it's because you've given to republican candidates and that you know some of your biggest competitors give to democrats do you think that that argument holds any water. you know i mean i've given to republicans in but i've also contributed to democratic campaigns i'm not an active republican i just can't imagine that the amount of participation i have been politics which justify this kind of treatment so i i don't think that's what it is what is. wrap it up with this question for you what is your fear in terms of
8:06 pm
the larger implications of incidents like that. my first fear is my company and my people of course you know this is shutting down our business. if if if the government maintains an extreme stance that we can import indian sourced wood that is the majority of the wood for the targets it is going to be virtually impossible to replace that in a short amount of time. that will in fact be disastrous to our business secondly it's the fact that this federal process doesn't allow due process we have had our. our issues heard and adjudicated by a court of anytime we have nowhere to go to raise our hands and pardon me that's
8:07 pm
wrong i have proof. someone needs to you know are independent third party to say yes you are door you heard it we got their ability in this book that was henry just call it c.e.o. and chairman of gibson guitar corp so here's a question is this a part of a larger and more dangerous trend and i know one man who says yes earlier i spoke to radio host alex jones who's in austin texas another music capitol of this country never at a loss for words i asked him to give us his opinion on the broader implications of what he is now calling a guest stoppel style attack on u.s. industry here's what he had to say. this is all about global governance global corporate in foresman of rules selectively enforced to shut down insiders competition this is what the oligarchy didn't russia fifteen twenty years ago this
8:08 pm
is what the great ish did that started the war two hundred thirty five years ago in the us seven hundred seventy six this is the same system over and over again were insiders use government control to shut down their competition it is as old as humanity and civilization itself i want to make this a little bigger i mean when i found a story it sort of reminded me we've been doing a lot of stories and i think you have to i mean some of these you know lemonade stands run by kids they're being you know taken down by police or some of these other things people in california who want to sell that's to girls on their front lawn are the honest people who want to sell their neighbors ron i mean this is a larger trend talk a little bit about the media sure sure and i mean look it's a fact that general electric's exempt from the regulations they wrote had obama put in show i mean that's what we know what's happening here with gibson they they told and i don't it's a believable get out of america ok everything they've done tax incentives to move
8:09 pm
to china has been a de industrialize and now it's been going on for years swat team in amish arresting people live in a stance going after people growing gardens you know ninety three days in jail they face arresting people and charging them with life in prison in illinois for videotaping police in public the bureaucracy knows that the foreign banks have conquered to us they don't play out of the economy by design they know that the people who are on the edge of revolution so they're trying to break our will dominate as an exercise power over us to get us just to accept tyranny it's really happening it's happened in every other culture why does anybody think it can't happen in america and as far as obama goes he's a teleprompter reading up it hits the mill. jury does to a complex. that is trying to break the will of the american people and the rational for that matter i want to get in a question about another case here one that may have similar implications this is
8:10 pm
a man in illinois forty two year old michael allison who's facing seventy five years behind bars i think we have some video of him from what i understand the crime that he committed is recording police officers this is a crime illegal in a dozen states including illinois where he's from recording audio of law enforcement without their consent now he faces the same punishment as a rapist as murderers alex what is going on here what is the bigger picture in this . ok well it's just like the government says it's the law you gotta take vaccines there is no law just because they can get a jury to convict somebody doesn't mean that the statute was applicable and the first circuit court of the us before the supreme court ruled yesterday that all of this is illegal but you're right in twelve states they're arresting people who filmed police on the street city council some people have gotten five to twelve years in prison are serving terms because the police kind of say it's illegal the
8:11 pm
jurors believe. ease dropping or wiretapping is when it's secret and the other person doesn't know but when you're in public there's no perception of privacy that's why a police officer can have a squad car camera or why when you go in a store they can have cameras because you know it's a public area so it's a giant hoax that it is illegal and it really is the scariest thing i've seen a long time that the police would knowingly try to put this guy in prison for life or simply video taping him even though it is incredible and yes they are uniquely claiming the audio out the video is a liar tapping but wiretapping is coming up to the side of your house and put a recorder on the wire it's not building police and public. so that was radio host alex jones joining us from austin texas. let's talk now about promises made by president obama on the campaign trail and even when he first came into office he
8:12 pm
spoke a lot about comprehensive immigration reform for america's estimated twelve million undocumented immigrants that's one in every twenty workers but three years later immigrants here say they're still living in the shadows taught to fear police and mount seek help because of enforcement programs like the one the administration just announced will now be it will not be actively in forcing it's called the secure communities and basically requires local police departments to run background checks on every person booked into police custody whether or not they're charged if they're illegal they will face deportation so this is not just robbers and rapists this is people arrested for trespassing in a home depot parking lots looking for work people with very minor traffic violations or even people who call police for help artie's killing four and has the story of one woman who could soon represent a large portion of this population. it will be
8:13 pm
a number of mothers when the new she's an unlikely hero. a working mother in undocumented immigrants the next the courage to stand up to us immigrations and customs enforcement has made her the face of the movement. and shed light on president obama's inconsistent gratian. fearing for her safety during a fight with her husband maria tickle lanyards called the police. only to be arrested later for allegedly stealing a ten dollars phone card charges that were then dropped when she asked if she could go home to nurse her infant daughter but of them disagree come out first let me guess you can and then a police officer stopped him and said no you can't go home we have a deportation order and we're going to deport you back to your country maria's case isn't unique part of a program called secure communities already in forty two states the obama administration has mandated that the program be taken nationwide by twenty thirteen
8:14 pm
eliminating states as ability to opt out federal statistics show that twenty eight percent of immigrants deported under secure communities have no prior criminal conviction thirty percent had minor offenses like traffic violations ripping apart families the very people that proc obama promised to legalize. being deported under a program that he says is for serious criminal leading critics to choose obama making forty thousand more palatable by criminalizing undocumented immigrants. responding to immigrant freight obama agreed to review three hundred thousand pending to court patients of quote low priority immigrants including undocumented student like gaby pacheco who is frustrated the president has totally failed the immigrant rights movement mainly he has followed this community of young people that have stood by him and when now you know to register people to vote to ask
8:15 pm
people to go out and vote for them obama has deported one point four million immigrants so far a record that contrasts sharply with obama's campaign promises of comprehensive immigration reform we did a good idea the vice president of the united states of america algal sherry says it's still possible he as president has executive authority that can change things now why isn't he doing it's because quite frankly obama that is people are afraid of antagonizing white swing voters who are going to be very important in his reelection but immigration reform actually that they do look you know vote for in swing states like florida arizona isn't a guarantee for obama and it doesn't well if you really want to ask for the latino go after as for the immigrant go for the twenty tall he's going to have to deliver something and until then maria says she wakes up every morning wondering if this will be the day she is sent home ingle me i have my daughter who was born here
8:16 pm
who have to go back to a country that she doesn't know she will lose many opportunities that she could have here that she won't have there but i can't leave her she's my treasure island forward artsy washington d.c. . all right so i want to talk now not only about the secure communities or eskom i want to talk about president obama's schizo friend schizophrenia immigration policy it wasn't too long ago i was there on the campaign trail working as a local news reporter and then senator obama told an entire auditorium of hispanic voters that he wanted and would get comprehensive immigration reform passed and you know what maybe he really did intend to but the numbers show that under president obama more than any other president more undocumented immigrants have been deported as far as the eskom program there was previously an opt out option for state and local governments no more this is the across the board policy that was not voted on
8:17 pm
by lawmakers it was simply an act of prospects community organizer ron goes has believes is setting a dangerous precedent ron joins me now from our los angeles studio. ron what's the deal here the president can't seem to make up his mind on immigration like you know the right hand is disagreeing with the left what do you make of all this. yeah you know i think our community was completely rejected and lied to you know we were promised immigration reform we were promised and so the deportations we were promised a lot of things that then enter the raids but we've seen a historic number of not only deportations and raids but also his attacks on our community so we were promised one thing we were given the exact opposite and that's why i think you know it's very clear that the democratic party cannot count on that you know vote for this upcoming election if we do not have a real immigration reform that will give legalization to millions of people in this country who are here simply to work all right if they're in a real they're in a real bind because if they don't come through they're not going to get up you know
8:18 pm
you're saying president obama cannot count on the latino vote you know it's one thing for you to say you know you promise something why don't you deliver what you promise but it's another thing entirely to say i'm going to take my vote elsewhere i mean ron is there a candidate in the republican side out of the you know ten candidates or whatever and they you think the latino community would be more likely to vote for. you know our community they call the working class the pleasants that is dynamic they tell us well you know it's the it's the daily that you know instead of a day where they don't know where that's how this is you know the lesser of the two evils but in our communities are tired of that we're tired of voting for the democratic party simply because they tried this at their worst in the republican party i'm sorry they're not as bad as the republican party but we have to go out there with some dignity and people and either vote for someone who really does represent our interests and then maybe a third party or simply you know what i'm going to be in my display at home and that's sending a clear message to the dictated ministration saying that if you don't compete on your promises in our community cannot continue to support you because your
8:19 pm
reporting is that at a record pace and you know we're talking about over two million people that will be deported after the end of the first term so that we cannot continue to support a party that is attacking this on an everyday basis whether it be at the border whether it be in our communities whether it be you know a woman who called the police because of domestic violence and then she ends up being deported because of what simply called the police for help this is a secure communities need for so many people and millions of people are really really tired of this you know the dream exit is going to feel completely rejected by president obama and many people feel rejected and i think it's something that if they don't in the bill is ation in this first term they cannot count on our communities but i think on the surface what the administration has said is that you know what let's not focus our efforts on students you know the dream act let's not focus our efforts on veterans let's instead deport convicted criminals if we have to deport someone why i don't see that it's not i mean at first glance it seems like kind of a good idea saying let's focus on the bad guys talk
8:20 pm
a little bit about that. sure that's absolutely rhetoric because the show including their own statistics show that the great majority of people who are being deported because the secure communities absolutely do not have a criminal record and some of the people who have a criminal record or something like you know traffic violations so when you sign with the rapists the murders those types of individuals those are at an absolute minority a fraction of the entire community so the rhetoric really is not proving true at all we know that there's simply attacking anyone and everybody using secure communities as a way to attract people it's almost like they're going out fishing for immigrants and they're trying to deport twelve million people in this country so you know they use the line to secure communities we say we call it what it is it's in secure communities because our community does not feel safe they cannot call the police or anybody else to come get help because they feel that they're going to end up being deported simply for calling in a real crime and i think the real crime here is in the hands of the administration
8:21 pm
and not in the hands of the majority of people in our community who are simply working class people who don't commit any crimes at all and i'm wondering just on a little bit of a lighter note president obama's uncle i guess it's dad's father i was recently arrested for dui outside of boston i'm wondering do you think that he's going to have his uncle deported. well you know this is an issue couple years back with one of his aunties and you know i don't i don't think anybody should be deported but i think you know it you know we'll see what he does about this case and just label bombers uncle there's millions of other people in this country who are here they need a legalization of some way and if you do get called for drunk driving well that's you know something that's a crime they should be punished for but i don't think he should be deported to another country simply because of that you know it's really interesting we've been hearing that were guarding the president the big story today is kind of how he said he was going to do his jobs speech on wednesday but decided to change it after speaker of the house john boehner said we don't want you to do it wednesday so we'll do it thursday so you know it's really interesting to see this process. of
8:22 pm
president obama say you know working with people but what is actually the vision here it seems to me the president is you know not so much outlining a vision he just today. you know the obama was that says they're going to unleash a new website called the read that people talk about how you feel with this we the people websites kind of being put on the internet now. in regards to the bigger picture and terms of what he's done and hasn't done. well i think this shows a clear dispraise on behalf of the administration they're feeling they're losing a lot of the support from a lot of the people they really believe in the whole thing and the change that they promised us during the so that the two thousand and eight campaign so they're trying to rescue their presidency they're trying to you know insure against reelection in two thousand and twelve and that's why they're coming out with all this rhetoric and that is for our community as far as immigration reform they gave us this thing of two hundred thousand people which is only about two and a half percent of the top million people they need legal ization so i think they're
8:23 pm
trying to do anything to rescue them so that this moment i think it may be a little bit too little too little too late for this administration community organizer ron kowtows talking to us about the security communities program i'm sure we have not heard a lot of us moving out of the latest in libya and what will happen next there there's a meeting going on in paris called the friends of libya conference where leaders from sixty countries are there to discuss with libya's national transitional council and cheesy and to see life after qaddafi artist you correspondent daniel bushnell is in brussels belgium and has more on what's shaping up in terms of planning for the future there. but from. the police on the streets the hospitals and schools working with weapons stores all of libya have been raided in the chaos. as everyone now has a kalashnikov on the streets and they're being traded for pennies and even more
8:24 pm
worryingly the rebel leaders themselves don't seem to know there's a composed of as well as the limits that you might expect from the. arab nationalists president jalal the new president of libya was amazed to find that's a column of al qaeda fighters have joined his offensive or tripoli and hillary clinton has just said that we will continue to help militarily the libyans as long as they need it which suggests the problems have only just begun it's really interesting though i'm curious how nato is justifying what's happening now especially in light of the fact that you know as you say some crazy things are going on the streets in tripoli and originally nato was that their stated goal was the protection of the civilian population from what i understand the rebels are continuing to push through and storm areas that are still you know somewhat under the control of khadafi supporters so should nato then still be protecting those who
8:25 pm
are in danger even if they now happen to be in places the rebels are attacking and how do they justify that. well later justification at this meeting in paris they reiterated is that gadhafi is a threat to his own people it's not quite clear who gave the right to be judge and jury. whether gadhafi should be hunted down and whether they have the right to hunt down and kill gadhafi certainly not the original international mandates giving them or even the permission to intervene in the country now if the eastern parts of libya which is traditionally more and to get a feel supported involved but it's very much under dealt with of the tribes the hundreds of tribes across the west and self which are traditionally war proved to be want to be bombed in this way by nato that certainly on the question at the moment i want to go back to something you you spoke about just a moment ago about al qaeda being involved in the rebel movement how do you you
8:26 pm
know you as another western leaders justify sort of being the friends of libya when they there's a lot of confusion about exactly who is in the national transitional council and who will be the future leadership i mean is that being discussed at all. oh it is being discussed but many will say that the lives of people under nato is getting worse i mean the we're talking about afghanistan also iraq and libya and certainly the transition here seems to be seems to be more chaotic this seems to be little question about that the fuller it's i mean the stability of the country has been totally blown out of the water i mean one diplomat says the people used to seem so the united states is their home certainly if you speak to people on the streets now they're full of hatred and anger for the west so it raises the question have they created a hornet's nest for themselves because if gadhafi certainly was no one was no one's
8:27 pm
favorite person across the world the question is has has the transition created by this held on by. creates an even worse enemy for the west i think that's such an important point that you bring up a lot of people sort of trying to make some historical connections here i make some comparisons with other places i know it was about ten years ago after all that many nato countries were pretty excited about a new leader in power i'm talking about one hundred karzai in afghanistan i'm wondering from what you're gathering there do you think as a result of things working out not quite the way people expected in afghanistan and that these friends of libya will be a little more reluctant to support and be excited about future leaders in libya. well look i was to. activists yesterday she said to tunisia. it's twenty years before women here in the in the west women here in belgium where i'm speaking to you from under the previous regime women for example are allowed to
8:28 pm
walk freely on the streets that's just one example they had a ball should rise they had the benefit as we call it here in europe they got money from the government know that libya is in chaos and the islamists the religious extremists have got a foothold and they using it as a base from which to spread their ideas across north africa and beyond the. limits. of the previous regime and you're absolutely right i mean the comparison with afghanistan of course iraq is is often also quoted many people will say that the rule is that people enjoyed before. the previous regimes were perhaps even than the ones they. are very very interesting i mean no matter what when you get people from the western world used to a very different kind of government involved and getting involved with you know what has for thousands of years and tribal it's just hard to imagine that they can
8:29 pm
really understand and get a grasp on how to move forward daniel bushell arctic. correspondent is joining us from boston brussels belgium thanks so much well that will do it for this evening but for more on the stories we covered but aren't you don kongs last usa or you tube dot com slash r t america should also follow me on twitter and brazee and christine. just put it to cheer i believe when i was like a million years old if you told the truth. i am a total get over that pile of crap because he is a one trick. i discovered yesterday. very little little a.
