recognizer the recognizable figures in the world of opera i don't know try go spoke with r t in new york ahead of the opening season at the metropolitan opera about her career charity and future plans i. r t sitting down with a world renowned opera star and in the trap go on to thank you so much for joining us today. i want to start off by saying congratulations on the extremely successful opening of the metropolitan opera season as the prima annabelle and now it's been a decade since your debut on the stage how does it feel to be back in such a dramatic role in one of the most famous stages in the world i am not thinking of all that i'm thinking about music in the vault what i have to perform but. behind it's past it's gone to date different time with different role you've studied. character historic character in detail as far as i know before taking on this role
12:32 am
what was it really that attracted you to her while she was a strong woman she was attractive woman i guess it was something about her which attracted the people which made somebody change their religion give divorce. i think she was incredible woman that's why i really like her besides of course. it's one of the most beautiful. oprah she's clearly also a very dramatic and passionate woman how do you gather energy really to go out on stage and perform with such vigor well this is something you have or you don't have . passion energy some people have a tom don't you have certainly one over the hearts of millions of people all over the world do you still sometimes get nervous before walking out on stage or i am getting no respect because. each performance it's a live performance singing without the microphone. anything can happen
12:33 am
usually divorce quite tough and you have to be able to go through the whole evening. quite a good level. i think to go on the stage in front of the thousands of people sometimes it's a million. lifetimes mission if even more scary and you know we get nervous that's normal and you have the leading cast in this in this op or are all russians which is certainly a major source of pride for russians back at home and is it for you actually. three russians in the opening night at the met in italian opera. it's almost never happened i don't know how did that happen. it's a great. russian fingers really going for that it's wonderful do you think the west's curiosity towards the russian soul is growing because of
12:34 am
you know russia's growing cultural influence throughout the world probably you're right of course. the. russian artist able to to go outside. and seeing the difference they get to experience would be different musicians i think it's a great thing for us not only for the singers but but for musicians as well i think that's why the level of the performance art in russia it's really growing very very high traditionally operas really seen as an elite art that's appreciated by a more knowledgeable and mature audience. you had during the performance two huge screens in new york with thousands of people gathered to watch including a very large young generation do you think this means that really the younger generations throughout the world is beginning to appreciate opera more these days it would be wonderful if it so but i do think what lots of people really interested
12:35 am
that opera this is definitely saw in europe i think here as well and it's great because operate even if it's the intelligent let's say old fashion art it's something very truthful and they systemizing something very very passionate which is extremely modern and we know that in october. when i was going to be shown in movie theaters all over the world where millions more people will get the opportunity to really experience this do you think that's also a new trend really in the twenty first century that's going to attract a much wider audience i think it's a great thing about this high definition and great would we do so it's very difficult to do very difficult organized but. i think possibilities now with all the twelve cameras around with the mazing sound it's really can bring to the
12:36 am
wider audience in the quite good level even if i think what it's not easy to put on the screen do you think it gets in the way of really sending the message across as strongly as to a real life audience i think operates not for close up i think it has to be performed in the opera theater but but there is some performance. in the motion moments which only in big screen can capture. this moment when you really can fell in love with her because there. amazing be very truthful you certainly have a very wide range of roles that you perform is there one maybe that's still your dream that kind of you keep to yourself that you still wish to achieve that you think about and in the years to come i'm always trying to learn something new i do i think a lot of get boring. now of course there are lots of new coming interesting roles
12:37 am
and. one is going to be in a few years here in my debut in. russian and actually looking forward to this beautiful role very extremely famous opera. lots of work and preparation for me now you're the first opera singer ever to be put on time magazine's most influential people list you're called the genius of the twenty first century this media frenzy surrounding your personality do you feel does it make you feel more responsible or do you feel like sometimes it gets in the way of you concentrating on your art no it's not getting my concentration if it's makes me feel more responsible. but even with all this. beautiful things in the press which happening thank you very much even with all
12:38 am
that i'm extremely concentrating artist just for me for myself because i like to do what i do in the best way you've said in previous interviews that some opera singers really threw in their careers for getting letting some superstitions get into their head can you give us sort of a sneak peek into the backstage scene what are some of those i was curious well the human brain it's a very complicated thing and. the brain of the opera singer it's. i know really what a lot of finger screw the career of just because something good click there and went wrong i mean i think you have to be able to abstract the rest of the world from what you have to do at this exact moment and be ok no fly could.
12:39 am
complex this free. during you formants in for that you have to be quite strong and you also you were born and cross and are and she's hosting the olympic games and twenty fourteen are we should we expect to see you there yes i am i'm going to be there i don't know if i will watching the sports probably only on t.v. but i'm going to be there singing the. opening closing ceremony i definitely going to you're there which of the stages really do you prefer is it do you prefer to go back home or maybe it's something else i think the wonderful thing about our profession would we always changing the places and the stages and this is great i mean you spent two months in one city you did a great performances and often as you say it's great it's now it's time to leave and to go from where and it doesn't matter which. is the stage i'm always before we do theme intensity with the same power. and i love love to do so where do you find the energy because everybody obviously always talks about
12:40 am
you're such a beautiful woman you have a family you have this incredible career people wonder how do you do it i don't know i just i know what i have to do this there is now the time when i really have to work there will be the time when i will be resting can you imagine your life as anything else but an opera star the person who will never feed and where you go from pain i will find what i am very personal faction now i wanted to ask you i've read that you are one of your hobbies is watching movies and you've had appearances in film do you maybe have plans to take your career further go to hollywood take it back and take it to the big screen i don't like it i like to watch movies but i would never switch my career i love to do what i but it's something extra you don't think you would do maybe a role in a movie to play in the movie just to play know if it will be all about something

what i'm doing about or put our youth. i know you're the honorary director of the russian children's welfare society and a global ambassador for an austrian based international children's charity what brings you to this cause really why why children's rights we of course understand it's important but. why specifically this cause and what do you think really are the most important steps for the international community to be taking in supporting children's causes to be. to have a lot of opportunity to really use it in good purposes it's important thing. to found quite soon and that's why. i hava lots of chatter to project. we me and my husband to open the foundation in your book. and to we deed and we're going to do a lots of wonderful projects i think it's extremely important thank you very much
