the headlines on our t.v. arab spring i coast in america u.s. police use force to disperse a nasty wall street rally arresting more than seven hundred members of a protest movement gaining momentum across the country. look at why serious crackdown is deemed more important than the battle of the brooklyn bridge five newspapers in the u.s. . and across the atlantic in the u.k. unions angry at budget cuts bring thousands out to a rally demanding that david cameron's coalition government resign. also in this week's top stories president medvedev says loving her good is a greater popularity it was behind his decision not to run for

a second term as part of a surprise interview that stirred up debate about russia's political future. and a dark humanitarian situation in the besieged libyan town of sirte where people are dying from a lack of vital supplies amid ongoing fighting something experts say makes nato his mission to protect civilians while questionable out. of watching r t coming to you live from moscow our top story and wall street protesters in new york say they will continue demonstrations the pledge comes out their police violently dispersed a rally and arrested more than seven hundred people after a dramatic showdown on the brooklyn bridge thousands of now joining the movement occupy wall street angry at what they call corporate domination and as i was ready to put my explains the action of police is likely to bring out more anger in the

streets of new york and beyond. right about now most of the protesters that were arrested from what we're being told more than seven hundred of them have been released or in the process of being released from prison from where they were being held i spoke with one of the protesters who said he wasn't sure he could come on camera because he has to speak with his lawyer first all of these folks are being charged with disorderly conduct but as we could tell from the video and the images that were taken on saturday this was quite a clash a clash between thousands of americans that began their demonstration at a park by wall street and then walked onto the brooklyn bridge you can't deny the fact that the media in the u.s. is covering it they are but how they're covering it is a different story for example i just want to show you the front page of the new york times from this sunday ok mind you one new york times reporter journalist was arrested in this protest that took place now here the biggest picture is of one
3:03 pm
protester in syria and right down here is a little picture of all the new york city protesters that were arrested on the brooklyn bridge so you could see the comparison why they decided to make that decision i have no clue but many critics do believe that the mainstream media are either trying to take credibility away from all these demonstrators or not give them ample coverage maybe make it a very short story and in the meantime though these protesters that are part of what's called occupy wall street say they are determined to continue to continue demonstrating in continue camping out by wall street that's where they have been for the past two weeks now this incident that we saw erupt in new york on saturday was the most recent one but it's not the first one just last weekend we saw cops and demonstrators clashed out by wall street several women were nice in the face by
3:04 pm
a police officer others were arrested there was a confrontation. in physical confrontation between police officers and the demonstrators like this are compiled wall street group is it limited to new york city there are demonstrations now taking place in los angeles taking place in past in taking place in other cities throughout the country. to discuss the latest developments in the us i'm sure i live by tony gasland investigative journalist or from mr gosling the scenes that we've been seeing a police brutality angry protesters well this isn't the middle east or north africa i mean this is going on in new york city it's been called the american spring do you think that's a fair comparison. is american autumn certainly the idea of occupy wall street i think use is a brilliant one because the president people who have been running the american financial system over the last ten twenty years or so of clearly made a mess of it and i'd like to see some of these very ordinary people all the thousands that are out there right now actually i think we could do
3:05 pm
a far far better job so i'm very happy to see this happen but the thing is what's happened is particularly the american people but also others of us in the west have been caught in a financial rattrap by this law and you know there are lives of billions of people are being affected by it so i'm absolutely happy that this is happening in the united states and of course not happy about the and i think you're absolutely right to call it censorship the lack of coverage it seems this is a great deal of embarrassment that this is simply that is what is actually going on here particularly here in the in the u.k. press as well there's been very very little coverage of it i mean we are happy to report these kinds of things when they happen in other parts of the world but this is happening in our own backyard and it's hardly being reported here in britain at all and that's because of the massive embarrassment factor the financial elite of made a mess of things and it's time to sort them out rather do you think that it's probably could it be a could it be a possible reason that the protests in new york city has probably not as root not
3:06 pm
yet reached critical mass that would make it higher up in the headlights. well of course it should be much more in the headlines because it's in our part of the world rather than one of the other parts of the world that should make it a much bigger story but there is it clearly embarrassment about this and also it seems that the the options are being closed off by the financial elite which includes to a large extent some of the mainstream media this is why it is not being a proper explanation look what happened for example to dominique strauss kahn he was a socialist financial guy who was offering some solutions consolidation of these various different debts around the eurozone and he was there in sting operation it seems now was launched against him i think we're dealing with people who are absolutely in denial they're not interested in what you ordinary people want and i think this tells us the scales are fully from our eyes this shows us that america is not a democracy they're not listening to what people have got to say and these are
3:07 pm
ordinary people coming up with their solutions because those people charged with running our financial system have not just made a mess of things they have actually orchestrated that system in their own interests they have also tried to talk about police brutality that have been reported and we've been seeing it in videos apparently they acted violently what do you think the consequences of that will be do you think protesters will turn violent in return. well it's absolutely inexcusable for the police to be wading in in a democracy note in a democracy the police do not white into peaceful demonstrators as they have been in new york so i think this is another indication that americans democracy is actually failing us at the moment is failing the world and it's absolutely not on for them to be going around the world so-called spreading democracy when they haven't even got democracy in their own country you know in their own government institutions they need to be listening to what these people have got to say and of course they're not listening what we've seen is some of the big personalities who've been frozen out of the u.s.
3:08 pm
corporate media over the years like roseanne barr appearing and giving speeches to the crowds egging on the crowds in a fantastic fashion she is another person who's got the solutions what we need to see these arrests of some of the boards of these massive banks that have been committing fraud like j.p. morgan and goldman sachs and we also need to see a government step in the u.s. treasury stepping in and stop the financial situation getting any worse but it seems this scared this elite cult which is running wall street right now and so you know i think this is a this is not going to just go away as the elite want to do and that's the media seem to want to grab it because they had just won a. slightly bigger picture and just briefly obama is facing reelection of course next year the campaign is already on how do you think these protests will attract that. it's difficult to say at this stage because a year is a long talk about a week is a long time in politics that's a long long time in the future but certainly a bomber seems to have completely failed to inspire not just the u.s.
3:09 pm
people but the world it seems he's more like a kind of glove puppet for the elite of wall street and it's not forget the private military companies in the military industrial complex in the us this is all becoming one kind of organization a kind of shadow government and actually obama is not really a player in this kind of thing so i think possibly it will be almost irrelevant who gets in as the next president unless it's someone who's prepared to deal with this financial elite thanks very much your thoughts they're going to and they're starting to ask them talking to us like bristol. thanks that's. how the diskettes are being seen in the us indicates something's going very wrong either way the country's ruled it now that's the view of prominent author and professor noam chomsky his full interview is coming up next hour. for the streets and some of the serious power in the. world right so good for your.

consideration a problem for congress it would be through no it means that the system isn't working and the public knows him. particularly in favor of early reading for congress and he can put him on the same branch of course all of them. it's a very widespread sense that everything is going wrong the tools of the credit system that's just not functioning. well i was just getting some updates from our correspondent on the ground there in new york city added she's been telling us that the hundreds of people are now gathering are out of wall street again it's a pay big crowd gathering to gather in this occupy wall street protest we'll give you all the latest updates as that when we get there we do have some of their monitoring the situation on the ground. well thousands of march to the north
3:11 pm
british city of nashville star in another protest a charity concert public services and pensions rally in opposition to the governing coalition and organized by trade you has core side of the ruling conservative party's conference in the city r.t. store and that was there for us. the conservative cause a conference started ten months just in the moment that politicians and delegates started to arrive this happens. and i do this to me that thirty thousand people are turning out for this march through the streets of manchester to pretest what the coalition government is doing in the way of talks and you literally got boots full of people here you've got the older generation saying hands off of pensions you've got to sort of middle age generation to fail that their children because as money to public services is last you've got to very very young who are worried that things like no strings and provision store education will be cut and of course not just to have the market population go to look to students turned out much like in
3:12 pm
all the marches that we've seen across the country turned out to protest against the rising cost of education i speak to some of the people who are here to ask the just why they called it was important to ten hours a day and here's what they told me a pretty simple no we send a message to the good woman seen coming in all school and particularly the people on really supposed with these kids and put the baby so this is. good people should let the government know you the majority of people post what you do you know usually really cool shit so i think you just have a page and you should have a good choice to give the choice course that's what richard it's all do to move you up to the previous government don't bring in a government that doesn't offer working people now look to the fine is that you can see here around me are calling for a strike on the thirty fifth maybe they calling for a general strike the public sector workers to town leave why should the government just exactly what it would be like. public sector workers didn't in fact show up in
3:13 pm
the morning what they're planning to do is go to the biggest unions in the country you know. they have all turned out here today to say we will die and she was on the fence if you left moments that you going make these deep cuts in public spectacle and think that you're paying the rules. of the discontent in the u.k. is only now gathering pace about protests and debt ridden greece have been going on for months economic you've seen moves closer for athens with a vital rescue payment delayed and the country quickly running out of catch. plus strife for statehood the future of palestine is clouded in three with the shadow of an imminent u.s. veto handing over its bid at the u.n. security council. well this week's headlines in russia have a dominated by the plan to reshuffle in the boot of the dead of tandem as well as the sudden departure of the finance minister well it prompted an unexpected

interview from the president as he clarified his decision not to run for office again as article thirty two grandchildren reports the election a period in russia may hold even more surprises. this week's headlines have been all that if hootin hootin advantage and use of the drops was brought up polemic switch russia hasn't seen for quite some time while some criticised others applauded the tandems deal and the kings of photo shop rolled out some of their best work yet with the general mood being that the deal had been done long ago but it was an exciting for just a few days until the first rich shuffles in the corridors of power began your mood if you think your views on russia's economic agenda differ from mine as president if you can resign should remove your votes that. was not my opinions do differ from yours but only take such a decision after a talk to the prime minister. almost absolutely you can talk to whoever you want
3:15 pm
including the prime minister is going the president going make these decisions here . was a surprise right now between the president and putin's longtime ally aleksey kudrin left many questioning is there a split in the tandem apostleship the situation with mr cooper it is a matter of discipline in government service we are a presidential republican opponent for a moment so it implements the president's policy if you don't agree you should step down meanwhile many read it not as a sign of a split but when you maturity and russia's democracy i believe is wrong most were mostly a wish for thing carol all the parts of the board else these people probably remember the perils of a whole world where there was a rift inside the party bureau which ultimately was one of the reasons for the collapse of your society and i remember before coming to power radio gave an interview where he basically said that russia will not survive another conflict
3:16 pm
inside buildings so from the very beginning i do believe that there was a serious rift the good news of putin yet again running for proud. brought up so many questions that nutriment that have had to meet top t.v. hats to cross the t.'s and dot the most because it's nice to know that people trust me a president and that my approval rating is quite high in the current circumstances but i also know that prime minister putin and socially remain the most popular politician in our country and his rating is even higher because that usually it's the election campaign has just started ask ourselves a simple question what if our people reject it. and come to work well how close are these decisions particularly these decisions are merely the party's recommendation to vote for those people that's all the choice is made by the people and these are not me or words you can't salute the troops or any politician of any political

fierce fighting and a lack of vital supplies aid agency save those injured and trapped are in desperate need of medical help with people dying in the main hospital because of oxygen and fuel shortages after war activists brian becker says nato has declared mission to protect civilians is now more questionable than ever. clearly they're not protecting civilians when their. cities that are considered to be pro could afy when they're killing people not because they've done something wrong but because their own political beliefs are contrary to what nato wants in terms of the kind of government they want for libya so i think that they need to be brought to justice i think though unless there's a very strong international movement for human rights in this instance i think it's unlikely they will be brought to court but the goal of the nato powers is the carry out regime change so the. the government is gone once and forever and there will be
