it's wednesday that i when i'm alone liberal and go up against two conservative political commentators to debate the week's biggest stories so far our panel tonight how they serve up and serious strategists and so sit blueskin solutions currently blogging and others. and appropriately and jamie weinstein senior editor at the daily caller thank you guys thank you for having both joining us republican house majority leader eric cantor this week said no way we're not going to vote on this jobs bill don't even think about it going to talk about it despite the fact that you've got numerous serious economists around the country saying if in fact the chief economist at citibank today was quoted as saying that we could be in a stall spin you know like when a plane when one when loses lift means or so in
9:31 pm
a situation because more people get laid off from government jobs they're not buying things stores stop selling things manufacturers stop me manufacturing things which cuts tax revenue which causes more people to get laid off from government jobs so you know there's a they're not going to do this but they also said that they will consider the cuts they want and sort of the tax raises but they will consider the cuts president obama seems to be welcoming this obstruction this is what he had to say. people don't have the luxury of least thirteen months while folks a little week to meet somebody living paycheck to paycheck some folks are living day that they didn't actually need it now they want congress to do what they like to do. congress to do their job to your. ok instead of focusing on jobs house republicans are saying you know what's going on i look i think this is all in. part of political demagoguery going to two thousand
9:32 pm
and twelve i think what we really need is looking ahead and i wish we did that from the very beginning i think a lot of businesses are sitting on the sidelines a lot of business people are afraid don't know where we're going to be we should not be looking at you know with these kind of small. side they are have already are saying they are going back to the matter is that they're either not sure i mean they're not sure we're going to be settled by any one business person in america with customers who have money in this market and want to buy their product and that uses a lot of these going into you and i don't know if you're going to u.s. bonds that is money because they're scared they're scared of where were things are going and they're not sure if they're going to put it somewhere stable and see what they see is relatively stable and say that's where that's coming from i think it's interesting to see how not yours you're not getting it in answer my question if you're sort of you talk about only government jobs and i don't think that's the main focus right now i don't think we have a big problem with government layoffs i think we have a bigger problem with private. thousand government i don't accept the biggest
9:33 pm
problem we have i don't see some signal that i think we have a becoming unemployed thing or a problem we have is we don't have the private industries that we don't have new businesses being started to accommodate those people who are now looking for work because perhaps they lost their government jobs or they lost their job we need a job creation and there are no surprise that the congress want to separate the jobs bill and obama's deficit taking advantage of this and i'm sure republicans will take advantage of it since they're campaigning unemployment one of the provisions the american jobs act is extension of unemployment and the republican senatorial slee oppose this last time in fact the deal they made was we'll give you one year of job benefits if you give us two years of tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires and economists of bank of america issued a report today saying that the economy will if these if the unemployment benefits are not extended the economy will lose fifty seven billion dollars and will shrink by four chance for size this is what really with republicans once again i think you are both republicans democrats this is again you know this is small bag i. mind in
9:34 pm
passing and go for it this is not not what we should be focusing on we should pass this extended maybe reform it as some people have suggested but you know extend it that's why. focus and focus on. reforming our unfunded liabilities of medicare medicaid social security that's what needs to be done to put our ship on a fiscal course they can be sustained and that will make businesses feel that america is getting their house in order and they'll feel safe and good that's the you know i mean calling for. eliminating the. allowing the government to negotiate drug prices and medicare which will solve both problems though they will not solve the problem you need to actually fundamental reform of medicare especially. rather well i mean i think that gene is right i think that both sides can be accused demagogue and i think both sides can be accused of poison things hostage to the fact is that republicans and democrats have a completely different vision for how demagoguing people oh. obviously what's going
9:35 pm
on with harry reid and the senate and the negotiations that go on the house and it's not the republicans control both houses they don't they have a divided congress and we've a president who was not using his cantor is literally holding a press to say to the american people. you know screw off what he signed the american people is that we have huge differences because we have a divided congress and what obama has given us is not acceptable he knew it was going to be acceptable and he has an opportunity to go out there and stomp on it and then we all know it's these it has just proved already starting our economy is hurt i agree trying it we're not going to only play the hurt sherman turn if you've got a congress that will go along with what you're trying to look. michael lewis has a very important essay out and then he fair this week and he goes to california and he looks at what's happening on the local level and there's scary stuff going on in the state and city level we've promised too much that we haven't been able to point you can't capture we added this show. that you know you have high taxes in the city
9:36 pm
there's no way you can tax your way out of this we want to reform we can't have politicians keep promising things that we can't deliver you know there's only a limit there's so much that you can give you know i give reagan started a terrible precedent running when he exploded our debt and it wasn't your everyday and i don't mean run of the reaction of the regular bill clinton because i think it all started with great things with him if he's. ok there was breaking political news major breaking political news yesterday chris christie said no today by my phone went off breaking news sarah palin said no. we're going to you know what's and the republicans are going. what's going on with your party. i don't know the reality is i mean i think that's a little bit of the s. and them. trying to get us to. the m.s.m. sorry media i didn't get the right should be ellis's me away from here but well you guys also talk about it so we all have problems with it right but the mainstream
9:37 pm
media trying to make the republican battle even more contentious the reality is that the republicans will become or come behind one person to get excited about that person and they will do their best they can to defeat obama and i personally don't think that chris christie would have done that much i don't think he would have been the savior party i think that's exactly what i believe i believe that he would have been disclosed as the liberal new jersey governor was already i think he did jump in i think he would have been fantastic but you know we made a living as a lobbyist. for. you know we're going to put on the seat will be ready to go to foreign country to point out he's a liberal he was burning. comics and he had a private jet and he was bringing us lobbyist something something made you know something he'd be a people point out on global warming and things he was doing ok i would imagine chris christie coming into office in the first thing he's going to do that guys i'm not going to focus on the budget what i want to push is cap and trade he would never have done that he would be the leaders are focused on getting our fiscal
9:38 pm
house in order get burned you know he would have been good for he was not going to jail he is very unfortunate that he decided not to renew my. immigration last we could judge in alabama help most of the states radical and immigration law based on some of the seventy arizona some subtlety and seventy lot went into effect thursday already what we saw right off the bat you many man was arrested. over the weekend in jail because they thought he was undocumented turned out his papers were home and he had to go home and somebody had to go and get him and took a weekend for it to happen two thousand the next day the following monday two thousand kids didn't show up for school many of them were legal legal citizens the united states but their parents were afraid that they would be harassed is this any way to run a country and shouldn't we be going after the employers instead of kids are. i rather just create a pathway to citizenship and secure the border so those here kids can be here legally i don't think going after the businesses out is a great idea either but i think you need a comprehensive immigration reform comprehensive immigration reform like there was
9:39 pm
that john mccain proposed with ted kennedy but failed unfortunately this is what we need we need a solution a gravel going to. actually secure the border the in person to mr secure the border well i don't i think the term amnesty at the front line was there to be had reagan before reagan did his amnesty program but we never had a problem of people coming north and staying here it seems to me that there's a very clear association between the fact that raiding basically stopped and we're seeing again stop enforcing actions against employers and you know the berserker program in the sixty's which was an awful racist program employers were record they were counted they were the retail and they were tracked all the way into the end when all of a sudden we spend so much i like immigrants i want them to stay here why why do you want to go back i think immigration good for america i'm in favor of rational immigration but i think every country should be should should have a labor force that matches their new labor needs well i think that that's the problem is that we don't have a clear immigration strategy right now and i think that it would be hard pressed to
9:40 pm
argue that we don't have a problem we have a problem with jimmy people coming in illegally and you know unfortunately so oftentimes we talk about comedy illegal immigrants and the reality is but why pick on the people or not the employers but i mean that's what i'm saying we have a very unclear right now states are having to deal with this on their own kind of you know shooting from the hip and we need to have something it's national cross supports that we have heard all my despair and more feel little immigrants in jail than george bush did when he was there three years about has been here three years he's been very aggressive i think we have had what is the ship i don't want him to be in jail other unless they committed a crime other than coming here illegally i would like them to pay a fine but have a chance to become americans if they want to secure the border so that we can have people come in legally and for. so you go in and order it and you go to the college you order but any i'm ok roger ailes turning heads in the series there are many my theories and i agree most of them in an a.p. interview roger ailes so that he hired sarah palin because he thought she was quote
9:41 pm
hot and got ratings. considering how ferociously the right friends the female candidates want to block him from criticism from the left should be called by the sexist to say that she was called hot because she never looks she is also very popular let's quickly secondly i think that's probably what he meant but on more of a larger note every day all the women who are on all the cable news shows including including our i have that i haven't seen like many people being a girl shows you know we can pretend it doesn't exist but it does i mean there are exceptions but they're not usually women either you know they would be worse now because i mean where is the where the women's organizations only a very good. you know it's i mean it's there's not really much talk about this at all except it's kind of a given that to be on t.v. you're supposed to look a certain way it's unfortunate but we turn in t.v. that's what chris christie would have people would have shattered the stereotypical
9:42 pm
image of what are publicly prefigured look but also in the context of news i'm just curious when you all think that fox news is going to start taking the ninety nine movement or the occupy wall street movement as seriously as they took the tea partiers when they're going to become serious and here's my problem talking big difference is why they were going to keep party in this movement here but here's the most crucial we're going to lection day but the party shows a lot of the action day this movement which smoking we forgot people actually heard . and these are the reality is i mean this is the reality is both jim and i have have talked to people that even even the directors of this movement don't really know what they're asking for it's kind of being an arche you know you go to the tea parties and you ask them questions and they say keep your government hands up my medicare i mean that's pretty and very well but they have sent they have some established steps to take it to reduce the size of government ok not saying we want to revise the constitution and so are all over it but. i hadn't heard that good for the question ok a.p. is reporting the say what sarah palin is officially not running for president as i
9:43 pm
mentioned just a minute or so the question what she's going to do with the one point six million. dollars that she raised for sarah palin super pac which she can spend any way she wants is now using to run for political office will she a trade in her turn tour bus for a one point six million dollar yacht to sarah sarah palin frenzy global for global because she started where i work i'm here to be will she buy a high powered binoculars so that seven thousand residents of you know two thousand dollars per binoculars can keep an eye on russia or c. will she hire a team of high priced lawyers to sue roger ailes for colorado for sexual harassment two words some party so it was that. i think she's going to use the money to start a hot hot hot sarah palin bus tour and she'll become that and roger ailes the same real. yeah i think that's what i mean if you take you. all right and
9:44 pm
i i'm i'm you know i think it's probably one point six million dollars divided into you know how much is it for a day in the spot maybe two hundred three hundred dollars you know i will say maybe she'll reimburse the r. and c. for all the you know could improve his game and i don't know. thank you very much rosen brings out the. crazy alert tell us where you're hiding the aliens according to the white house's new we the people program anyone can submit a petition to the president as long as he gets five thousand signatures the white house will offer an official response. to americans have always used to chanst organize around issues they care about now thanks to the internet they're even more popular a lot more popular so popular in fact that we've come up with a better way to engage that because that's why we the people matters to you it's an
9:45 pm
official way to make your voice heard in our. it is simple anyone can create was sign a petition on the white house but if your petition is among the most popular white house policy officials. like this a good looking bunch who review it make sure it gets the right people involved ministration to be crafting this response. well the white house might be rethinking that low threshold for consideration now because one of the first petition successfully submitted calls on the government to release all of its alien files u.s. real u.f.o. researcher stephen bassett wrote the petition which reads we the undersigned strongly urge the president the united states to formally acknowledge and extraterrestrial presence engage in the human race and immediately release in the public domain all files from all agencies and military services relevant to this phenomena it only took about four days to collect the five thousand signatures

needed means it's only a matter of time before the entire world finally finds out the truth about the robotic pigeons on the planet xenu which i think will be handled fairly well by most americans as for the truth about the room the lizard people in human suits that one may cause a panic. after the break i'll tell you what happened two hundred twenty two years ago on wall street it's making the events of today possible in my jersey. what drives the world the fear mongering used by politicians who makes decisions to break through a bit through it if you had made who can you trust no one who is in view with a global missionary see where we had a state controlled capitalism is called sasha's when nobody dares to ask we do our t. question more.
9:47 pm
your take my take is the segment of the show where we give you an opportunity to have your questions comments criticisms of opinions heard here on the big picture our first comment so night came to us via twitter al tweeted why do we need to register to vote should it not be automatic for citizens eighteen years old well al
9:48 pm
i agree north dakota does that it doesn't even require voter registration it is show up and vote fourteen other states have either same day or very close to same day voter registration while the republicans in many of those states are trying to get rid of it as we speak because it increases voter turnout and one of the only ways republicans can win elections is to keep people away from the polls here for example is what paul weyrich one of the republican party's most famous consultants who helped get both ronald reagan and both bushes elected had to say on the topic back in one nine hundred eighty when he was addressing a group of christian conservative republicans. how many of our could have but i probably brought good government they want everybody to go. i don't want everybody to vote elections are not won by a majority of people they never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now have come out of pocket or little bridge in the elections why
9:49 pm
can't avoid go drop out go bowling oculus go down and the us under the new voter id laws that the republicans are passing in the states that they control according to the brennan center for justice just based on the laws that are already passed and there's still some pending at least five million people will show up next year at the polls thinking they can vote thinking they're all registered everything's fine and then get turned away this really is a crime against democracy we really need to get everybody voting only then can america fulfill its true potential so let's hope our states follow north dakota's example and do we all together we put a registration our next question came to us via the viewer comment line on friday's show i asked our big picture rumble analysts a very important question they go vote. looks like the tea baggers are fading fast no more rallies the public has kind of turned against them and now the occupy wall street movement seems to be capturing the discontent america to get back in the
9:50 pm
headlines it's the baggers are looking for a name change which they probably should have done long time ago so what will it be a the zombie corp the force that will take down president obama's brown shirts also known as america or or be the kansas kitchen clan aka the k.k.k. or c. big dick army's army. you guys i don't think we say tea baggers i don't know if you know this but actually it was used by conservatives so you will find that a federal case you may know that i would call them the we party because you get the double entendre just like you do with the tea party ok and the winner party because the tea party won in the last let me in and they're going to win and i was relieved a ok and my answer in part response in response to what neil had to say is on the screen but. he can't read it kenya. well mike called us with his own suggestion for a new name for the tea party now they were looking for a name for the so-called tea party again and they don't like being called pea
9:51 pm
baggers like so just one i have seen used previously on the net. cockroaches spelled k o c h we know that's referring to and i love with tom had it on for the big picture on friday i loved that name the they had all networks to. my great idea the only thing i don't like about your suggestion is that cockroaches never go away you know that old adage about a cockroach being the only living thing that will survive a nuclear winter so let's hope you party isn't here to stay forever and our last comment tonight is also from the viewer rant one you know we get all kinds of feedback here on the big picture and for my radio show as well most feel like we've just seen here on shows and even when you don't agree with me appreciate the opportunity and challenge and the challenge of being presented with all the different angles that we can take on the issues of the day and although that is the type of feedback that is the most encouraging to my team and me it's not the only
9:52 pm
kind of comments we get so tonight in the interest of being balanced and because this truly is the segment of the show where everyone can have their say here's just a small sample of the hate and what we're seeing that there was a protest to one of those angry wife and she would have brought this up because. it wasn't so simple it built this country. so much. and what do you draw the price to call us. here and ask well it's just. despite all his colorful vocabulary i'm still not sure exactly what patrick's criticism of me and my show is but just for the record since moving to washington d.c. a few years ago or a year ago i don't drive anything live in the city it's a great city it makes it possible because of the mass transit system here the metro and whatnot for louise i don't walk or take public transportation pretty much any
9:53 pm
place you want to go. we don't even own a bicycle and as far as being compared to ed begley jr i don't quite see the insult in that either i've actually had the pleasure of interviewing ed on my show and in addition to his very accomplished acting career he's at the forefront of the green living room and although i realize that not everyone has the resources to embrace the green lifestyle as completely as ed has i support his efforts to inspire all of us to do whatever and as much as we can to minimize our impact on the planet it's it's our future it's our children's future it's it's really an important issue and i think it's frankly kind of sad when people ridicule it or minimize it or marginalize. that's it for your take my takes and i if you like your comments and questions for it on this side of the big picture. we want to know your to send us your comments what does in the marvin facebook page by a twittering that tom underscore when you're in the champ room on the message
9:54 pm
boards or the blog tom harkin dot com you can also leave a message general rant line by three sixty three zero six agree disagree sound off it's all welcome the remember that your comments may be used on the year. history not only has a way of being full of ironies but there is one particular important incredible mind boggling and significant one unfolding this week. consider this two hundred twenty years ago this week a bill of rights was introduced in congress and we all know that the very first guarantee in the bill of rights was quote the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for redress of grievances what most people don't know is that this right the most fundamental right that our democracy depends
9:55 pm
on was birth in the belly of what is today the beast that's right in seventeen eighty nine and by the way it typically had to john nichols who first told me about this it capital of the united states and seven hundred eighty nine i actually knew this party for about two hundred twenty three years the capital united states and seven hundred eighty nine was not here in washington d.c. instead it was in new york city and congress convened in a building called federal hall which was located at twenty six wall street right across the way from where the new york stock exchange stands today. right across the way and this afternoon tens of thousands of people marched through the streets of new york city exercising those first amendment rights but they talked about in that bill of rights in the in in amendment number one and marching and protesting against the hijacking and frankly the destruction of our economy by the
9:56 pm
bankers on wall street but beyond the irony of americans taking to the streets in protest against wall street using that very same first amendment it was and the and the right associated with it was clear that wall street there's a more disturbing irony. and that's how that very same first amendment right is now being eroded in the very same place it was created what is a right to peaceably assemble and petition the government look like to look like a group of women getting penned up and then pepper sprayed without provocation a block or two away from where james madison read the first amendment is the right to peaceably assemble look like seven hundred people getting corralled together on the brooklyn bridge you mean and profit one by one through the night shut down of busses book and processed this isn't what our founding fathers imagine when they drafted those about words the first amendment doesn't say the right to peaceably assemble and free speech zones only where the right to peaceably assemble as long
9:57 pm
as you're not blocking traffic or the right to peaceably assemble as long as you don't get on the nerves of a rogue n.y.p.d. cop it says the right to peaceably assemble simple and straightforward which is exactly what people have been doing in manhattan and frankly all over the nation for the past three weeks exactly the way our founders hoped our democracy would they believed that when things went to stray and the government stopped listening to the people and concentrated wealth started threatening economic freedom then the people could would and should take to the streets demand change without bloodshed without pepper spray and without fail it's if they saw how these people young and old have been treated over the last three weeks as they exercise their first a memorize if our founding fathers saw that it would be horrified our first amendment was created on we all street and that was our nation's political capital
9:58 pm
now our nation's capital was moved here to washington d.c. and wall street is just a play place where banking and financial business is done and it would be a horrible irony if on that same block on wall street where the first amendment was first ratified two hundred twenty two years ago this week democracy was to begin to die. don't let it happen occupy wall street that's the big picture for tonight for more information on the stories we covered visit our website to tom hartman dot com dot org. you can also check out our two you tube channels there are links of time are they dot com or both this entire show is also available as a free video podcast on i tunes and we have a free time when i phone and i pad app and the app store he's honest feedback and twitter of tom underscore her on facebook at time of her school her blogs message boards a telephone comment line thom hartmann dot com and don't forget democracy begins when you show up when you participate when you get out there when you occupy your
