11:30 pm
it's wednesday that i went on the low rolling go up against two conservative political commentators to debate the week's biggest stories so far our panel tonight how they serve up and serve as strategists and so that blueskin solutions currently blogging it either surnow dot com and appropriately and jamie weinstein senior editor at the daily caller thank you guys thank you for having both joining us republican house majority leader eric cantor this week said no way we're not going to vote on this jobs bill done even think about it back and talk about it despite the fact that you've got numerous serious economists around the country saying if in fact the chief economist at citibank today was quoted as saying that we could be in a stall spin you know like when
11:31 pm
a plane when one wing loses lift means of solving the situation because more people get laid off from government jobs they're not buying things stores stop selling things manufacturers stop me manufacturing things which cuts tax revenue which causes more people to get laid off from government jobs so you know there's a they're not going to do this but they also said that they will consider the cuts they won't consider the tax raises but it will consider cuts president obama seems to be welcoming this obstruction this is what he had said. don't have the luxury of thirteen months lot of folks who live in week to week summer little check the break from folks living day to. really need it now they want congress to do what they like to do. congress to do. to your job congress ok instead of focusing on jobs the house republicans are saying no. what's going on
11:32 pm
i mean look i think this is all you know part of political demagoguery going to two thousand and twelve i think what we really need is looking ahead and i wish we did that from the very beginning i think a lot of businesses are sitting on the sidelines a lot of business people are afraid don't know where we're going to be we should be looking at you know with these kind of small things sort of they are have already are saying they are in the back of the matter is that they're very they're not sure i mean they're wondering not sure where we're going to be if i find one business person in america who has customers who have money in this market and a lot of other products and that uses all the money is going to you and i will not sell because you're going to u.s. bonds that is money because they're scared they're scared of where were things are going and they're not sure been put it somewhere stable and safe what they see is rove at least able to say that's where that's coming from but i think you're seeing through something that you're going to push and you're sort of you talked about only government jobs and i don't think that's their main focus right now i don't think we have a big problem with government layoffs i think we have
11:33 pm
a bigger problem with private and. government that's biggest problem we have i don't think sex is real but i think we have become you know one of the bigger problem that we have is we don't have the private industries that we don't have new businesses being started to accommodate those people who are now looking for work because perhaps they lost a government job or they lost their other job we need a job creation and there are no surprise that the congress want to separate the jobs bill and obama's deficit taking advantage of this and i'm sure republicans will take advantage of it to their campaign unemployment one of the provisions the american jobs act is extension of unemployment and republican senatorial slee opposed as last time in fact the deal they made was when you get one year of job benefits if you give us two years of tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires and economists of bank of america issued a report today saying that the economy will if he's if the unemployment benefits are not extended the economy will lose fifty seven billion dollars and will shrink by four transfer percent this is what really with republicans once again i think you would vote for. republicans democrats this is again this is
11:34 pm
a small bag i don't mind them passing go for it this is not not what they should be focusing on they should pass this extend it maybe reform it as some people have suggested but extend it that's fine and focus and focus on. reforming our unfunded liabilities for medicare medicaid social security that's what needs to be done to put our ship on a fiscal course i can be sustained and that will make businesses feel that america is getting their house in order and they'll feel safe and good to invest again i mean calling for a eliminating them in the social security and allowing the government to negotiate drug prices and medicare which will solve all of those problems. that will not solve most of the voters from need actually fundamental reform of medicare especially right now. well i mean i think that jane is right i think that both sides can be accused demagoguing i think both sides can be accused of things hostage but the fact is that republicans and democrats have a completely different vision over how demagoguing. oh. obviously what's going on
11:35 pm
with harry reid and the senate and negotiations going on the house i mean it's not the republicans control both houses they don't we have a divided congress and we've a president because i'm using his. he's literally holding a press conference to say to the american people you want your. time the american people is that we have huge differences because we have a divided congress and what obama has given us is not acceptable he knew it was going to be acceptable and he has an opportunity to go out there and stump on it and we all know was these it was his approval rating starting our economy's hurt i agree trying to play the if you go to congress and what we try to look. michael lewis has a very important essay out in vanity fair this week and it goes to california and he looks at what's happening on the local level and it's scary stuff going on in the state and city level we've promised too much that we haven't been able to plan
11:36 pm
and you can't capture we added this you know you showed that you know you have high taxes in the cities there's no way you can tax your way out of this fundamental reform we can't have politicians keep promising things that we can't deliver you know there's only a limit there's so much that you can give me no i don't give a terrible president winning when he exploded our debt and it isn't going to ever. actually they're going to go it's going to begin to start with things were similar seems. ok there was breaking political news major breaking political news yesterday chris christie said no today my phone went off breaking news server no. we're going to you know what's and the republicans are all going. what's going on with your party so i don't know what the reality is i mean i think that's a little bit of the us and them. trying to take us as the m.s.m. sorry mitri media i didn't get the right should be me but when he's read again.
11:37 pm
well you guys also talk about it so we all have problems with it right but the mainstream media trying to make the republican battle even more contentious the reality is that the republicans will become will come behind one person look at excited about that person and they will develop the best they can to defeat obama and i personally don't think that chris christie would have done that much i don't think he would have been the savior party i think that's exactly what i believe i believe that he would have been disclosed as the as a pretty liberal new jersey governor. i think he didn't jump in i think he would have been fantastic but made a living as a lobbyist for for what seems to me we're going to put people seeking a new way to go to a foreign country to point out he's a liberal and he was grinning. like some he had a private jet and he was bringing yugoslavia something. that maybe the stuff he people try to point out on global warming and things he was through with can anyone imagine chris christie coming into office in the first thing he's going to do with your eyes i'm not going to go on the budget what i want to push is cap and trade he
11:38 pm
would never have done that he would have been a leisurely focus on getting our happy schoolhouse in order to bring you know he's you know he would have been good he was not going to jail he is very unfortunate that he decided not to run america. immigration last we could judge in alabama upheld most of the state's radical and immigration law based on some of the fence seven years on some of the law went into effect thursday already what we saw right off the bat you many man was arrested. over the weekend in jail because they thought he was undocumented turned out his papers were home and he had to go home and somebody had to go and get him and took a weekend for it to happen to think the next day the following monday two thousand kids didn't show up for school many of them were legal legal citizens the united states but their parents were afraid that they would be harassed is this any way to run a country and shouldn't we be going after the employers instead of kids i. i rather just create a pathway to citizenship and secure the border so those here can can be here legally i don't think growing up with a business is out is a great idea either but i think you need comprehensive immigration reform
11:39 pm
comprehensive immigration reform like it was drawn mccain proposed with ted kennedy but failed unfortunately this is what we need we need a solution we got a little going to. actually secure the sort of in person to mr secure the border well i don't i think the term amnesty is for all i was going to be the reagan before reagan did his amnesty program but we never had a problem with people coming north and staying here it seems to me that there's a very clear association between the fact that reagan basically stopped and forcing against stopping first in actions against employers we had to preserve a program in the sixty's which was an awful racist program employers were on record they were counted they were they would say they were tracked all the way into the editing and all of a sudden we stand so i like immigrants i want them to stay here why why do you want to go back i think immigration for america i'm in favor of rational immigration but i think every country should be should should have a labor force that matches their new labor needs well i think that that's the problem is that we don't have a clear immigration strategy right now and i think that it would be hard pressed to
11:40 pm
argue that we don't have a problem we have a problem with too many people coming in illegally and you know unfortunately sometimes we talk about oh a comedy illegal immigrants and the reality is but why pick on the people not the employers let me that's why i'm saying we have a barry i'm clear right now states are having to deal with this on their own kind of you know shooting from the hip and we need to have something that's national across the border that we have our border miscarriage more real little immigrants in jail than george bush did when he was there three years ago he's been here three years he's been very aggressive i think we need a private insurer i don't want him to be in jail other unless i committed a crime other than coming here illegally i would like them to pay a fine but i have a chance to become americans if they want to secure the border so that we can have people come in legally and sort. would you go and ask for it as you noted the air quality of the border but anyway ok roger ailes third ahead of me in the series that there are there are my theories about ordering us that in eight he interview
11:41 pm
roger ailes so that he hired sarah palin because he thought she was quote hot and got ratings. considering how ferociously right the female candidates like you want to block them from criticism from the left should be called a sexist who's to say that she gets called hot because she never looks she's also very popular let's quickly secondly i think probably what you put on more of a larger note every look at all the women who are on the cable news shows including all the women are i haven't i haven't seen like many people like green acres of shows you know we can pretend it doesn't exist but it does i mean there are exceptions but they're not usually women either you know there anywhere is now i mean where is where the where the women's organizations only of the review. you know so i mean it there's not really much talk about this at all i think it's kind of a given that to be on t.v. you're supposed to look a certain way it's unfortunate but we turn t.v.
11:42 pm
that's what chris christie what is going to shatter the stereotypical image of what our public figures to look but also in the context of news i'm just curious when you all think that fox news is going to start taking the ninety nine movement or the occupy wall street movement as seriously as they took the tea partiers or that we're going to become here's here's my problem big difference why difference between the tea party and in this movement here but here's the most crucial vote on election day the party shows a lot of action day this movement were smoking we forgot the election you know. and these are the reality is i mean i don't this is the reality is both jim and i have have talked to people and even even the directors of this movement don't really know what they're asking for it's kind of being anarchies but you know you do you go to the tea parties and you ask them questions and they say keep your government hands up like medicare i mean that's pretty incredible what they have sent they have sent established steps to take this to reduce the size of government but we're not saying we want a constitution it's our all over it ok. i hadn't heard that. ok a.p.
11:43 pm
is reporting that say what sarah palin is officially now running for president as i mentioned just a minute so the question what's she going to do with one point six million. dollars and she raised for sarah palin super pac but she can spend anyway she wants just never use it to run for political office will she a trade in her trade tour bus for a one point six million dollar yacht take the sarah sarah palin frenzy global tour global because it started where i walk i'm here to be will she buy power but ocular so that all seven thousand residents of was so you know two thousand of her america was keep an eye on russia or see will she hire a team of high priced lawyers to sue roger ailes for. her sexual harassment two words awesome party simply was that. i think she's going to use the money to start a hot hot hot sarah palin bus tour and so become that and put roger ailes seem real and. yeah i think yes that's what you take you. are and
11:44 pm
i and i'm you know i think it's probably one point six million dollars divided into you know how much is it for a b. in the spot maybe two hundred three hundred dollars you know i will see if you still reimburse the r. and c. for all the words you know could improve is that they made you i don't know. thank you very much there are some things out. there thank you if it was. crazy alert tell us where you're hiding the aliens according to the white house's new we the people program anyone can submit a petition to the president as long as he gets five thousand signatures the white house will offer an official response. merkins have always used tissues organize around issues they care about now they see the internet even more popular a lot more. so popular in fact we've come up with
11:45 pm
a better way to engage that could be that's why we the people matters to you it's an official way to make your voice heard in others. government it is simple anyone can create or signed a petition on lighthouse but if your petition is among the most popular white house policy visuals. like this good looking guy review it make your gets the right people involved ministration to craft a social response. well the white house might be rethinking that low threshold for consideration now because one of the first petitions successfully submitted calls on the government to release all of its alien files your real u.f.o. researcher stephen bassett wrote the petition which reads we the undersigned strongly urge the president the united states to formally acknowledge an extraterrestrial presence engage in the human race and immediately release in the public domain all files from all agencies and military services relevant to this phenomena it only took about four days to collect the five thousand signatures
11:46 pm
needed means it's only a matter of time before the entire world finally finds out the truth about the robotic pigeons of the planet xenu which i think will be handled fairly well by most americans as for the truth about the law and the lizard people in human suits that one may cause a panic. after the break i'll tell you what happened two hundred twenty two years ago on wall street it's making the events of today possible in my drawers or. what drives the world the fear mongering used by politicians who makes decisions it's come to break through get through it if you may who can you trust no one who is in view with that noble mission to receive where we had a state controlled capitalism it's called sasha's when nobody dares to ask we do our t.
11:47 pm
question more. your take my take is the segment of the show where we give you an opportunity to have your questions comments criticisms and opinions heard here on the big picture our first comment so i came to us via twitter al tweeted why do we need to register to vote should it not be automatic for citizens eighteen years old well al i agree
11:48 pm
north dakota does that it doesn't even require voter registration it is show up and vote fourteen other states have either same day or very close to same day voter registration although republicans and many of those states are trying to get rid of it as we speak because it increases voter turnout and one of the only ways republicans can win elections is to keep people away from the polls here for example is what paul weyrich one of the republican party's most famous consultants who helped get both ronald reagan and both bushes elected i had to say on the topic back in one nine hundred eighty when he was addressing a group of christian conservative republicans. how many of our christian. what i call her cuckoo syndrome good government they want everybody to vote. i don't want everybody to vote elections are not one priority of people they never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now i've come out of
11:49 pm
a bridge in the election why can't i go out go bowling oculus go down and the us under the new voter id laws that the republicans are passing in the states that they control according to the brennan center for justice just based on laws that have already passed and there's still some pending at least five million people will show up next year at the polls thinking they can vote thinking they're all registered everything's fine and if you turn away this really is a crime against democracy we really need to get everybody voting only then can america fulfill its true potential so let's hope more states follow north dakota's example and do way altogether reporter registration our next question came to us via the viewer comment line on friday's show i asked our big picture rumble analysts a very important question there are a lot. looks like the tea baggers are fading fast no more rallies the public has kind of turned against them and now the occupy wall street movement seems to be
11:50 pm
capturing the discontent america to get back in the headlines but she baggers are looking for a name change which they probably should have done one time ago so what will be a the zombie corp the force that will take down president obama's brownshirts also known as america or or be the kansas kitchen clan aka the k.k.k. or c. big dick army's army. you guys i don't think we say tea baggers i don't know if you know this tom but actually it was used by conservatives so you'll find that of me you know that i would call them the we party because you get the double entendre just like you do with the tea party ok and calling a winner a party because the tea party won in the last let me know and they're going to win in the negative way ok and my answer in part response is in response to what you'll have to say is on the screen. you can't read it can you but i want to know. well my call this with his own suggestion for a new name for the tea party now they were looking for
11:51 pm
a name for the so called people are you again and they don't like being called pea baggers likes to suggest one i have seen used previously on the net. cockroaches spelled k.-o. c h we know that's referring to and i love with tom had it on for the big picture on friday i love the name the networks to. my great idea the only thing i don't like about your suggestion is that cockroaches never go away you know that old adage about a cockroach being the only living thing that will survive a nuclear winter so let's hope and party isn't here to stay forever and our last comment tonight is also from the viewer rant line you know we get all kinds of feedback here on the big picture and for my radio show as well most feel like what you see and hear on both shows and even when you don't agree with me appreciate the opportunity and challenge and the challenge of being presented with all the different angles that we can take on the issues of the day and although that is the
11:52 pm
type of feedback that is the most encouraging to my team and me it's not the only kind of comments we get so tonight in the interest of being balanced and because this truly is the segment the show where everyone can have their say there's just a small sample of the hate and what we're seeing pickle was a protest from one of those angry wife and she wouldn't have brought this up quiet about. it so wasn't so the vehicle is very. much. what do you try to call us in saying yes you're an ass club so it's just. despite all his colorful vocabulary i'm still not sure exactly what patrick's criticism of me and my show is but just for the record since moving to washington d.c. a few years ago or a year ago i don't drive anything live in the city it's a great city it makes it possible because of the mass transit system here in the
11:53 pm
metro and what not for louise i don't walk or take public transportation pretty much any place you want to go. we don't even own a bicycle and as far as being compared to ed begley jr i don't quite see the insult in that either i've actually had the pleasure of interviewing ed on my show and in addition to his very accomplished acting career he's at the forefront of the green living room and arlo i realize that not everyone has the resources to embrace the green lifestyle as completely as ed has i support his efforts to inspire all of us to do whatever and as much as we can to minimize our impact on the planet it's it's our future it's our children's future it's really an important issue and you know i think it's frankly kind of sad when people ridicule it or minimize it or marginalize it. that's it for your take my takes and i if you like your comments and questions for it on this side of the big picture listen up we want to know your to send us your comments by visiting the time martin facebook page but twittering

11:55 pm
most fundamental right that our democracy depends on was birth in the belly of what is today the beast that's right in seventeen eighty nine and by the way it typically had to john nichols who first told me about this the capital of the united states and seven hundred eighty nine actually in this party for about two hundred twenty two years the capitol united states and seven hundred eighty nine was not here in washington d.c. instead it was in new york city and congress convened in a building called federal hall which was located at twenty six wall street right across the way from where the new york stock exchange stands today literally right across the way and this afternoon tens of thousands of people marched through the streets of new york city exercising those first amendment rights but they talked about in that bill of rights in amendment number one and marching and protesting against the hijacking and frankly the destruction of our economy by the
11:56 pm
bankers on wall street but beyond the irony of americans taking to the streets in protest against wall street using that very same first amendment it was and the and the right associated with it was created on wall street there is a more disturbing irony and that's how that very same first amendment right is now being eroded in the very same place it was created. what is a right to peaceably assemble and petition the government look like to look like a group of women getting penned up and then pepper sprayed without provocation a block or two away from where james madison read the first amendment does the right to peaceably assemble look like seven hundred people getting corralled together on the brooklyn bridge in maine and cuffed one by one through the night shoved on a bus as booking process this isn't what our founding fathers imagine when they drafted those are moral words the first amendment doesn't say the right to peaceably assemble and free speech zones only or the right to peaceably assemble as
11:57 pm
long as you're not blocking traffic or the right to peaceably assemble as long as you don't get on the nerves of a rogue n.y.p.d. cop it says the right to peaceably assemble simple and straightforward which is exactly what people have been doing in manhattan and frankly all over the nation for the past three weeks exactly the way our founders hoped our democracy and. they believed that when things went to stray and the government stopped listening to the people when concentrated wealth started threatening economic freedom then the people could would and should take to the streets demand change without bloodshed without pepper spray and without fail it's if they saw how these people young and old had been treated over the last three weeks as they exercise their first amendment rights if our founding fathers saw that it would be horrified our first amendment was created on wall street when that was our nation's political
11:58 pm
capital now our nation's capital was moved here to washington d.c. and wall street is just a play place where banking and financial business is done and it would be a horrible irony if on that same block on wall street where the first amendment was first ratified two hundred twenty two years ago this week democracy was to begin to die don't let it happen occupy wall street. as the big picture for tonight for more information on the stories we covered visit our website to tom hartman dot com free speech dot org r t dot com you can also check out our two you tube channels there are links of tom harkin dot com both this entire show is also available as a free video podcast on i tunes and we have a free tell her i phone and i pad app if you have still it's honest feedback and twitter of tom underscore our facebook at tom underscore our blogs message boards the telephone comment line top heartland and don't forget democracy begins when you
