this is our team tonight the deadliest riots since the egyptian revolution flare up in cairo as religious tensions leads in dozens of deaths in clashes between the country christians and security forces we report for you also. out. and see wall street protesters are turning of the volume as the campaign continues to spread despite multiple arrests and a heavy handed response from the police. is growing poverty in e.u. countries spirals out of control due to cuts in social spending russia says it could step in the help of the dead britain european economy. and the biggest hunt for a legendary creature in over half
12:01 pm
a century our correspondent joins the international expedition determined to finally prove bigfoot exists. and. welcome it's eight pm here in moscow my name is kevin irwin and first tonight on our religious tensions in egypt that intensified following the fall of mubarak have now grown into full scale riots over twenty people were killed and hundreds injured as clashes erupted between coptic christians and security forces in cairo what began as a peaceful rally calling for justice over attacks on christian churches by muslim extremists quickly turned into the most violent episode since february revolution military vehicles with clearly seen charging through crowds and plowing into people while army infantry fired rubber bullets and tear gas it's still unclear and sparked the fatal scenes that state owned media has placed the blame with the
12:02 pm
christian protesters but middle east global culture shero says blaming them for the violence is hypocritical of the country's military rulers. this is a very cynical attempt by the fact rulers of the country the military to portray. a minority of the population and religious minority as troublemakers when in fact all they're doing are trying to seek some justice and overturn institutionalized discrimination that still residue from them time of war barak and his policies so this is absolutely cynical kind of the way it's covered by the military council and its media are let's look at what the market on that we're looking at here in egypt because some people got carried away after mubarak stepped down and declared their evolution over in fact what we are facing is a popular uprising that was aboard aboard by a military coup leaving pretty much
12:03 pm
a political and security vacuum in place and that's the context for what's happening in egypt and all the kind of sides involved from the emerging secular parties to the more established parties to the military to the civil administration president administration don't seem to have enough authority to control the emergence to ation in egypt so that void within that vacuum anything is possible at the moment. well shocking scenes last night what do you think about this story today that's why we're asking you why do you think violence erupted in egypt just eight months after the uprising toppled the country's leaders is what you've been telling us about forty percent of you are slightly less than last hour sure that we'll soon see a regime far worse that the amount of hosni mubarak but officially at this hour pointing to a sectarian rift as the main reason for the violence and the rest of you pretty much split between the two options where the regions enemies from overseas are
12:04 pm
instigating the clashes all the revolution is simply not over yet really good to hear what you think about this big story is developing and continuing indeed we'll bring you more coverage of course throughout the night. too another trouble spot in africa now this time libya heavy fighting for. his home of search shows no sign of abating however libya's revolutionary forces go look they're closer than ever to taking control of a town that's been under siege now from those two months they've made significant advances by capturing the university the main hospital and the convention center that was the key base of the colonel. and the fighting over still rages in some pockets of the city considered the most important stronghold of libya's ousted leader. and clashes continue in syria to where opposition supporters are following the footsteps of egyptian revolutionaries bit later in the program tonight we look at how russia is trying to help find a way to end the conflict as syrian opposition members gather here in moscow for talks. well the answer wall street protests in the fourth week
12:05 pm
now there are stretches voices are only getting louder and spreading wider it seems from coast to coast in dozens of cities people have been taking to the streets to demand an end to the fat culture and economic inequality report joins us now from the heart of the movement you really are a good suit and i although we've seen some of these protests turned violent most recently with clashes with police and multiple arrests the demonstrators nonetheless saying they are there to stay don't they you've been in amongst them watching your reports is there any indication of where though this is all heading how do you gauge in this. well kevin as far as where this is heading this is as you mentioned gaining momentum because this demonstration that this group occupy wall street has really mobilized a lot of momentum and as far as the protesters value to remain and stay that clearly was the key this past weekend there was bunch of protesters calling camped
12:06 pm
out outside of new york stock exchange in lower manhattan and one man was arrested because he was sleeping in the walkway entering the new york stock exchange and that was the single the rest but there were so many people down there sleeping outside of it taking part in this demonstration that he only had room to sleep on the right before his arrest the demonstrators hung up a sign on the new york stock exchange buildings that said thanks got bailed out we got sold out this weekend we also did see religious groups join this movement members of the christian jewish muslim clergy clergies in new york city joined demonstrators in lower manhattan to support them in this ongoing protests against corporate influence over u.s. politics families were also bringing their young children down there to take part in this ongoing demonstration and there's a kickstarter called at the extent that has to pay for an occupy wall street
12:07 pm
building in times square if just twenty thousand people logged on to their website in support of this billboard so that just gives you a gist of how large this movement is growing continues to grow and and as you mentioned there are growing coast to coast these demonstrations popping up all across the country and i will for example thirty two people that are arrested over the weekend for taking part in our culture and of course it would be during these rallies were largely ignored by mainstream media and politicians one of the longer recognize the gravity of the story because the numbers of these protests go big or is it because their message has become clear and clear are they doing a better job of the protests. i think it's both i think at this point it's gotten so large that mainstream media in the united states has no choice but to cover it they cannot ignore it anymore and i think the tipping point was the arrest of nearly eight hundred peaceful protesters on the brooklyn bridge but even having
12:08 pm
said that even the next day the new york times didn't give that story much room on the front page but now. mainstream publications such as the new york times and mainstream media outlets in the u.s. are turning their attention to this movement because it is growing so large that they don't want to be the ones not covering it because most of you know alternative news stations are covering the story it's growing bigger and if mainstream media doesn't cover it it's going to be seen as an absolute blackout and too many people at this point in the u.s. too many americans are involved in the mainstream media it's you simply ignore it any longer when former new york french agree you said today they go on another big story that that's continuing where you are. russia could soon come to the rescue of e.u. economies the helping hand was extended by a presidential aide however the details of the plan will be discussed only after europe comes up with a clear on the crisis strategy. report. well this news comes from the presidential
12:09 pm
economic aide who said there have been meetings recently focusing primarily on spain in those meetings and raise the possibility of russia being able to buy some of spain's debt and so provide extra help for the use of that crisis he also said that other brics countries brazil russia india china and south africa could try and help economically with the use economic woes but there is a big but it relies on the e.u. coming up with a clear plan to try and contain the debt crisis that is currently sweeping across the eurozone we all know about the problems in greece italy and spain credit ratings have recently been downgraded again raising fears of major debt problems there so russia says it's true it's too early at the moment to talk about any concrete plans to start buying up spanish debt we want to see
12:10 pm
a unanimous plan first time god and reporting for duty there greece remains the epicenter of the debt crisis of course with international creditors still finalizing talks on whether to hand out another cash injection your god overdeveloped is editor in chief of the trends magazine he told us the bailout policy will one day hit the credit worthiness of the e.u.'s strongest economies to . we have a banking crisis we have a sovereign debt crisis there indirectly in a very vicious way and there is no coherent european plan to take away all of these problems little or so severe at the moment that's the big fear environment call it that way that at the end of the day and they might not be far away even a country like france and certainly also germany can become a country in financial troubles or to put it in the language of the rating agencies both countries might lose their aaa rating and as a matter of fact for france for example i think the moment of loss of the aaa
12:11 pm
rating is not that far away. well for more on the financial woes there's talk now to dr richard well i'm sure we saw the institute of economic affairs is joining us on the line from london their thoughts are thanks for being on our to international much pressure to appreciate you take the time to be with us they used to late now isn't it is debt crisis summit saying it needs more time to finalize a strategy why is action being delayed when every bit of evidence we see says that the greek economy is closer than ever to collapsing. yes i think there's a huge danger of i mean the problem is that whether these bailouts hands i mean eventually if. it's lighter on the money even the most powerful economies in europe such as france and germany so basically i don't think this is the answer politicians and bureaucrats main their main priority is to avoid taking the blame so all they're doing is taking the can down the road and of course looking at the evidence again from greece know how you look at it it's proved to be an unreliable
12:12 pm
borrower it's still not able to submit itself to reduce its deficit as good agreed with its creditors we couldn't go around personally and it could countries that cannot meet bailout conditions qualify for support anymore. we knew that there's also a problem in the big really big problem is what happens if it's only for spangly it's out i mean it's only has to raise roughly five hundred billion euros by the end of twenty putzing so that's to me very difficult especially during a period when a lot of other people economies are trying to raise huge amounts of debt on the market at the same time and the problem is if we get a fiscal union so that's one of the priorities of the european union and that's going to actually we can call governments like germany they have to agree such a rise in southern europe in perpetuity of course your poles there has some severe long term economic problems so it's not an aging population basically increasingly uncompetitive compared with not just our european countries but countries in east
12:13 pm
asia and also calls some of these great policies in the park are going to devastate the tourist industry this is aviation becomes more expensive so i really i can't see the short term fixes really appealing to the long term problems i want to see attitude in germany changes well these bailouts only yesterday leading german m.p. michael food from chancellor angela merkel's christian democrats in fact saying that greece will stay the give up part of its sovereignty or leave the euro zone what to make of those suggestions you think we'll have more of it. well i do think german public opinion is hardening and of course german taxpayers or german savers are the people who the real victims of these these quick fixes so when the european central bank prints money to make an official bailouts of spain and italy. and of course people with savings in euros they're the ones that suffer from but of course the problem is that german taxpayers are going to be on the hook for not just greece potentially all the other seven european countries. i mean i agree with
12:14 pm
a lot of the german population i really be only long term solution is an orderly dissolution of the eurozone probably starting with grace and let's not forget this is nothing to worry about too much should have been plenty of currency union sort of broken up in the past so for example in the early ninety's we saw checks the back here broken up and there's a back in currency value. of course but this would be on a huge scale but wouldn't it work in this happened previously previous unions have broken up as long as it's done in an orderly fashion as we have czechoslovakia it wasn't a huge problem and slovakia actually thrived after that he's done really well until the recent credit crunch and even now it's really a paragon of virtue within a year in the european union so i mean let's not get too worried about surprise. ok very good he thought expert opinion from dr richard well he was there for the institute of economic affairs joining us on the line from london. head to our web site r t dot com for more and lots of stories of course online right now these my

reform and even that if the current of those will not evil to put these reforms through they would have to go peacefully and not a result of any foreign military forces getting involved similar to how the events unfolded in are still unfolding in libya so russia block to the new western backed u.n. resolution which did not exclude the chances are for military intervention currently russia and china are proposing their own resolution which condemns both sides for the violence of last week i thought he says here in moscow met with representatives of the syrian authorities but they are still here they say they are not ready to hold any negotiations with the oppositions just yet. or is national news a brief no libya's revolutionary forces say they are closer than ever to taking control of moammar gadhafi home made significant advances by capturing the main hospital near convention center that was a key base of the colonel's loyalists have been fighting will still be in some pockets of the city considered the most important stronghold of user leader. falls

a russian runner has managed to win three consecutive titles at the chicago marathon we meet up with her a bit later this is next though from moscow created many can see. her welcome to our business update this hour as we've been reporting moscow could contribute to hear a pin test bailout package this would involve buying up the bones of troubled nations here is off the ball it explains why it's in russia's interest to help out . for russia it's an opportunity to have a say and contribution in the stabilization of world finance the world economy and especially such a strategic partner as the european union i think there may be also the mercantile in first so this is a relatively high yield some of these bonds it's also one of the ways for russia to further diversify its reserves because even though the share of the euro within

the reserves has gone up in the past several years there is scope for that to continue to unfold given the importance of the euro zone for for russia overall. let's not let's have a look at the markets now for this higher as investors bet that huge amount may increase after a pledge by european leaders to tame the recent self and that crisis like this week's trading eighty five and a half dollars brant is that one hundred eight dollars about this hour and certainly all prices are giving a big boost to energy stocks in the u.s. independent oil producers are among the biggest beneficiaries of the rally has corp leading that again is on a five point seven percent move stocks in europe are on the rise after germany and france vowed to preserve a comprehensive plan to deal with a debt crisis and recapitalize the euro zone bank sector footsie games one point eight percent and while the dax finished over three percent on the block banks are
