welcome it's eight pm here in moscow my name is kevin now and first tonight on our religious tensions in egypt that intensified following the fall of mubarak of now grown into full scale riots over twenty people were killed and hundreds injured as clashes erupted between coptic christians and security forces in cairo what began as a peaceful rally calling for justice over attacks on christian churches by muslim extremists quickly turned into the most violent episode since february revolution military vehicles with clearly seen charging through crowds and plowing into people while army infantry fired rubber bullets and tear gas it's still unclear who sparked the fatal scenes but state owned media has placed the blame with the christian protest is the middle east global culture shero says blaming them for the violence is hypocritical of the country's military rulers. this is a very cynical attempt by the defacto rulers of the country the military to portray
12:02 pm
a. minority of the population and the religious minority as troublemakers when in fact all they're doing are trying to seek some justice and overturn institutionalized discrimination that still residue from them time of war barak and his policies so this is absolutely cynical kind of the way it's covered by the military council and its media are let's look at what the background that we're looking at here in egypt because some people got carried away after mubarak stepped down and declared their evolution over in fact what we are facing is a popular uprising that was a poor aborted by a military coup leaving a pretty much a political and security vacuum in place and that's the context for what's happening in egypt and all the kind of sides involved from the emerging.
12:03 pm
these two of the more established parties to the military to the civil administration ministration don't seem to have enough authority to control the emerging situation in egypt so that void within that vacuum anything is possible at the moment was shocking scenes last night what do you think about this story today that's what we're asking you why do you think violence erupted in egypt just eight months out of the uprising toppled the country's leaders is what you've been telling us about forty percent of you that slightly less than last hour show all that will soon see a regime far worse that the matter posen mubarak but officially this are pointing to a sectarian rift as the main reason for the violence and the rest of you are pretty much split between two options whether egypt's enemies from overseas or instigating the clashes all the revolution is simply not over yet pretty good to hear what you think about this big story is developing and continuing indeed we'll bring you more coverage of course throughout the night. to another trouble spot in africa now this
12:04 pm
time libya heavy fighting from. duffy's home of search shows no sign of abating over libya's revolutionary forces claim that they're closer than ever to taking full control of a town that's been under siege now for almost a month they've made significant advances by capturing the university the main hospital and the convention center that was the key base of the colonel's loyalist at the fighting over still rages in some pockets of the city considered the most important stronghold of libya's ousted leader. and clashes continue in syria to where opposition supporters are following the footsteps of egyptian revolutionaries bit later in the program tonight we look at how russia is trying to help find a way to end the conflict a syrian opposition members gather here in moscow for talks. with the anti wall street protests in the fourth week now demonstrators voices are only getting louder and spreading wider it seems from coast to coast in dozens of cities people have been taking to the streets to demand an end to the fat culture
12:05 pm
and economic inequality report joins us now from the heart of a movement you really are very good see tonight although we've seen some of these protests turned violent most recently with clashes with police and multiple arrests the demonstrators nonetheless saying they are there to stay down there you've been in amongst them watching your reports is there any indication of where though this is all heading how you gauging this. well kevin as far as where this is heading this is as you mentioned gaining momentum because this demonstration that this group occupy wall street has really mobilized a lot of momentum and as far as the protesters value to remain and stay that clearly was the case this past weekend there was a bunch of protesters quite camped out outside of the new york stock exchange in lower manhattan and one man was arrested because he was sleeping in the walkway entering the new york stock exchange and that was the single the rest but there were so many people down there sleeping outside of it taking part in this
12:06 pm
demonstration that he only had room to sleep on the walkway before his arrest the demonstrators hung up a sign on the new york stock exchange building that said banks got bailed out we got sold out this weekend we also did see religious groups join this movement members of the christian jewish muslim clergy clergies in new york city joined demonstrators in lower manhattan to support them in this ongoing protest against corporate influence over u.s. politics families were also bringing their young children now in there to take part in this ongoing demonstration and there's a kickstarter called epic step that has to pay for an occupy wall street building in times square if just twenty thousand people logged on to their website in support of this billboard so that just gives you a gist of how large this movement is growing continues to grow and
12:07 pm
and as you mentioned there are growing coast to coast these demonstrations popping up all across the country and i will for example thirty two people got arrested over the weekend for taking part in our. course of the beginning these rallies were largely ignored by mainstream media and politicians one of them so long to recognize the gravity of the story because the numbers of these protests is a gold digger or is it because their message has become clear and clear are they doing a better job of the protests. i think it's both i think at this point it's gotten so large that mainstream media in the united states has no choice but to cover it they cannot ignore it anymore and i think the tipping point was the arrest of nearly eight hundred peaceful protesters on the brooklyn bridge but even having said that though even the next day the new york times didn't give that story much room on the front page but now. mainstream publications such as the new york times
12:08 pm
and the mainstream media outlets in the u.s. are turning their attention to this movement because it is growing so large that they don't want to be the ones not covering it because you know alternative news stations are covering the story it's growing bigger and if mainstream media doesn't cover it it's going to be seen as an absolute blackout and too many people at this point in the u.s. too many americans are involved for the mainstream media to simply ignore it any longer report or a new york friend should bring you so today they go on another big story the continue where you are. russia could soon come to the rescue of economies the helping hand was extended by a presidential aide however the details of the plan will be discussed only after europe comes up with a clear on the crisis strategy. reports. well this news comes from the presidential economic aide who said there have been meetings recently focusing primarily on spain and those meetings raise the possibility of russia being able to buy some of
12:09 pm
spain's debt and so provide extra help for the debt crisis he also said that other brics countries brazil russia india china and south africa could try and help economically with the use economic woes but there is a big but it relies on the e.u. coming up with a clear plan to try and contain the debt crisis that is currently sweeping across the eurozone we all know about the problems in greece italy and spain credit ratings have recently been downgraded again raising fears of major debt problems there so russia says it's true it's too early at the moment to talk about any concrete plans to start buying up spanish debt we want to see a unanimous plan first tom barton reporting for. greece remains the epicenter of the debt crisis of course with international creditors still finalizing talks on whether to hand off another cash injection your vote
12:10 pm
overdeveloped is editor in chief of the trends magazine he told us the bailout policy will one day hit the credit worthiness of the e.u.'s strongest economies. we have a banking crisis we have a sovereign debt crisis day indirectly in a very vicious way and there is no coherent european plan to tackle all of these problems that are so severe at the moment that's the big fear environment call it that way that at the end of the day and that they might not be far away even a country like france and certainly also germany can become a country in financial troubles or to put it in the language of the rating agencies both countries might lose their aaa rating and as a matter of fact for france for example i think the moment of loss of the aaa rating is not that far away. well for more on the financial woes there's talk now to dr richard well i'm sure we saw the institute's of economic affairs is joining us on the line from london there dr thanks for being on r.t.
12:11 pm
international much pressure to appreciate you take the time we were this the use delayed now isn't it is debt crisis summit saying it needs more time to finalize a strategy why is action being delayed when every bit of evidence we see says that the greek economy is closer than ever to collapsing yes i think there's the huge danger of i mean the problem is that whether these bailouts i mean eventually if the balance current going up enough light to undermine even the most powerful economies in europe such as france and germany so basically i don't think this is the answer politicians and bureaucrats the main priority is to avoid taking the blame so all they're doing is it's kicking the can down the road and of course looking at the evidence again we've seen from greece you know what i look at it is proved to be an unreliable borrower it's still not able to submit itself to reduce its deficit as it agreed with its creditors we couldn't go around personally and it could countries that cannot meet conditions qualify for support anymore. i mean
12:12 pm
it's also a problem in the big the really big problem is what happens if all spangly to be piled out i mean it's only has to rise roughly five hundred billion euros by the end of twenty saying so that's going to be very difficult especially during a period when a lot of other big economies are trying to raise huge amounts of debt on the market at the same time and the problem is if we get a fiscal union that's one of the priorities of the european union then that's going to actually weaken the call governments like germany if they have to create such dies in southern europe in perpetuity of course seven your culture has some severe long term economic problems so it's not an aging population it's getting increasingly competitive compared with not just have a european countries but countries in east asia and also of course some of these grain policies in the pipeline are going to devastate the tourist industry this is aviation becomes more expensive so i really i can't see any short term fixes really dealing with
12:13 pm
a long term problem i want to see attitude in germany as well in these bailouts only yesterday leading german m.p. michael food from chancellor angela merkel's christian democrats in fact saying that greece will stay in the game a part of its sovereignty or leave the eurozone what you make of those suggestions you think we'll have more of it. well i do think german public opinion is hardening and of course german taxpayers or german savers are the people who are the real victims of these these quick fixes when the european central bank prints money to make an official buy lots of spain and italy. and of course people with savings in your eyes they're the ones that suffer from but of course the problem is that german taxpayers are going to be on the hook for not just greece but potentially all the other seven european countries so i mean i agree with a lot of the german commentators and i really the only long term solution is an orderly dissolution of the eurozone probably starting with grace and let's not forget this is nothing to worry about too much should have been plenty of currency unions that are broken up in the past so for example in the early ninety's we saw
12:14 pm
a check for the back here broken up and the slovakian currency devalued by. of course but this would be on a huge scale that wouldn't it would i mean this happened previously previous unions have have broken up as long as it's done in an orderly fashion as we had czechoslovakia it wasn't a huge problem and slovakia actually thrived after that is done really well until the recent credit crunch and even now it's really a para going to be within the year in the european union so i mean let's not get too worried about a breakup. ok very good. expert opinion from dr richard wellings there of the institute of economic affairs joining us on the line from london. head to our website for more and more top stories of course online right now these my interest spring comes to moscow a legendary photographer who witnessed the bloodshed of the prague spring displays his unique coverage of the events in the russian capital which. also

where the new york city mayor we're hearing has given his police force a new weapon to fire at suspicious aircraft just part of. what you think about that story. as well don't forget about all the stories you see at home. russia says its veto of the latest u.n. resolution against syria was not designed to indulge president assad's regime the statement comes as a delegation from the syrian opposition visits moscow to discuss solutions to the country's ongoing violence. offspring following that meeting. members of the syrian opposition are in moscow they've met with russia's two african nations. and the main message being told to them at the moment is that even though moscow did block
12:16 pm
the draft resolution on syria it does not support president assad's regime much it's important to understand that russia's veto is not designed to give a free house carte blanche to president assad's regime if the syrian government has missed the message it's high time to understand it they should go ahead with genuine not formal reforms and to gauge and dialogue with all sides of the conflict not only those who are comfortable partners moscow has been furiously criticizing the violence in syria throughout the entire conflict and according to the u.n. it's already taken the lives of nearly three thousand people just earlier with from president said that syria is in desperate need of democratic reform and even that if the current of toadies will not be able to put these reforms through they would have to go but peacefully and not a result of any foreign military forces getting involved similar to how the events unfolded in are still unfolding in libya so russia block to the back to you on

resolution which did not exclude the chances for military intervention currently russia and china are proposing their own resolution which condemns both sides for the violence of last week i thought here in moscow met with representatives of the syrian authorities but they are still here they say they are not ready to hold any negotiations with the oppositions just yet. more international news in brief now libya's revolutionary forces say they are closer than ever to taking control of moammar gadhafi home made significant advances by capturing. the main hospital in the convention center that was the key base of the. heavy fighting is still going to take some pockets of the city can see the most important strong. leader. begun washing up on a beach in new zealand's coast five days after the container ship of raina's struck or a reef nearby the vessels being found in this sense we should pipe in at least one

12:19 pm
first that prishtina is about to set up customs around what they think is the independent state of course on the other hand they show that there are international unions and a whole number of states that approve pristine is intentions but we're facing a situation here with international forces deployed in cost of oil in fact pristine as needs rather than maintaining a neutral position we need to find a way out of the situation where on the one hand there are countries that acknowledge the one sided proclamation of independence and on the other hand there is serbia which does not recognize the prishtina initiative. unfound and unfounded arousing fear and curiosity in equal measure evidence of the existence of bigfoot remains elusive however the hunt for the yeti shows no sign of ending its artie's maria for national took part in a siberian expedition to track down the legend. the yeti also known as big food

her welcome to our business update this hour as well as been reporting moscow could contribute to european debt bailout package this would involve buying up the bonds of troubled nations here is a list of all explains why it's in russia's interest to help out. for russia it's an opportunity to have a say and have a contribution in the stabilization of world finances world economy and especially such a strategic partner as the european union i think there may be also the interests of relatively high yields some of these bonds it's also one of the ways for russia to further diversify its reserves because even though the share of the euro within the reserves has gone up in the past several years there is scope for that to continue to unfold given the importance of the euro zone four for
