welcome aids nine pm here in moscow my name is kevin know in our top story tonight on our t.v. religious tensions in egypt that intensified following the fall of mubarak of no growth into full scale riots over twenty people were killed and hundreds injured as clashes erupted between coptic christians and security forces in cairo what began as a peaceful rally calling for justice over attacks on christian churches by muslim extremists quickly turned into the most violent episode since five degrees revolution military vehicles are clearly seen charging through crowds and plotting to people will army infantry fired rubber bullets and tear gas it's still unclear who sparked the fatal scenes but state media is playing kristie in protest is let's talk about this try and put a little bit more meat on the pogues talk to investigative journalists i'm going to sufi's in london tonight simon how you can hear me sir very good evening thanks for
1:02 pm
being on r.t. i mean the blame game regarding who is responsible for the violence has begun is it just head then i hope well the protests sporadic do you think will orchestrated. the purchase themselves emerge out of quite a long history of discrimination against the christian minority inside of egypt and so that this has been around for quite a few years and i can seventy's it was it was very prominent and it seems to reemerged in a in a major way over the last couple of months. a lot of explosive warning the islamic extremists could come to power after november's election of the country one of the current events telling us about the likelihood of such an outcome. but i think. i don't believe that to be the case i don't think there will be anything there is anything called islamic extremists that are not that powerful are thought of egypt as the muslim brotherhood were very mainstream but what we have is we have a current military government which. many edicts are being ignored
1:03 pm
and so there is if you like a power vacuum to develop in the country and inside of this power vacuum you begin to get all kinds of forces beginning to make all kinds of plays and i think what we saw last night. just in a protest by traditionally discriminates against community. going to the traditional place of protest if you like and then at some point being attacked by unknown people salafi islamic extremists i would say. we don't actually know in the confusion and then this seem to have been steamrollered into a full on confrontation against demonstrations by the army and so i mean you've seen the images and i'm sure you've seen horrific images of military trucks piling into people there is if you like inside of this there is there are new forces beginning to develop and i think this is what i think this is what last night really showed just looking at the pictures actually speaking over your shoulder that i mean is there
1:04 pm
a danger if these countries are continuing tonight again we hear such a large scale a moment according to reports is there a danger that they could escalate into something of the scale that we saw in february revolution and what should the authorities do to avert that. well well the thing is. what we have is we have several processes taking place at the same time and in egypt on the one hand we have if you like the continuing revolution and you see this in the universities strikes the work of strikes the top public transportation strikes growing of the independent trade union movement democratize ation society taking place quite the inquest few number of areas of egypt at the same time you have the weakening of the forces the april sixth movement and so on who made the original revolution their demonstrations getting smaller and smaller and in the middle of this we see the emergence of if you like. a kind of counter-revolutionary force beginning to formulate itself and this is what we saw
1:05 pm
last night in the middle of these these clashes the state t.v. announces that christians are shooting at soldiers and they call on the population to come and help defend the army now this was a lie at the same time as this was taking place the minute you were going around closing down will be independent stations or the state itself but what is taking place here there is the sort of a fabrication of the news sort of time there is a whipping up of all of the frustration population against the very identifiable minority in this crisis the coptic christians and you seem to see a mobilization of anti revolutionary forces so beginning like i think you see today what they call continuing clashes but to me appear direct sectarian attacks on christian population. under any parallels to be drawn with a report that came out of libya that the mosque had been run side by government in the libyan capital some suggesting it is not making straight must be on the outside
1:06 pm
simply had to make trouble all we're going to see more of those kind of incidents in countries like libya like egypt struggling to make the transition to democracy. it's a bit of a joke we have in the middle east. share with your viewers which is in the west when your revolution fails you get fascism in the middle east when revolutions fail to fail you get sectarianism and what we're seeing and if you look at each individual country serial saudi arabia or even even in lebanon. and libya you see if you like sectarian forces taking on different targets but these targets are identifiable in terms of traditional talk is so inside of bahrain it's direct attack on the shia population in syria a direct attack on the sunni population and in egypt direct attack on the christian population it's like they have to find a target in which around to gather forces of counter-revolution and this in the case of egypt a very viable target now there are historical parallels with this in nine hundred
1:07 pm
seven there was a huge need to get an army and this mutiny almost through the overthrow of saddam the president at the time the way the regime overcame that during this period was to simply direct the anger against christians and we had quite severe anti christian riots inside of the these riots sanofi islamic fundamentalist movement that a few years later was to come back and bite. you saying the nation that history has a habit of repeating itself many times i'm afraid we're out of time but i wouldn't talk about this for a long investigative journalist simon asked from so she can use paper thank spain and i'll tell you joining us from london that like. well we just saw a movie simon shoulder but there were shocking scenes last night what do you think about this story today those who are asking a website we're asking why you think violence erupted in egypt just eight months after the uprising toppled the country's leaders this is what you can telling us about it or see coming on the graph there forty percent of you this slightly more
1:08 pm
lost ashore there will soon see a regime far worse than that of hosni mubarak but a fifth of your pointing to a sectarian rift is the main reason for the violence meantime these two ounces split roughly equally between you with the rest of it two options whether egypt's enemies from overseas are instigating the clashes or the fed the revolutions are simply not over yet still a chance to have your say change the graph let us know at r.t. dot com. to another trouble spot in africa now in libya heavy fighting for. gadhafi is hope of sirte shows no sign of abating however libya's revolutionary forces claim that they are closer than ever to taking full control of the town that's been seen for almost a month they've made significant advances by capturing the university the main hospital in convention center that was the key base of the colonel's loyalist heavy fighting over still rages in some pockets of the city considered the most important stronghold of libya's ousted leader. and clashes continue in syria to opposition
1:09 pm
supporters of following the footsteps of egypt should revolutionaries later in the program tonight we look at how russia is trying to help find a way to end that conflict the syrian opposition members gala for talks here in moscow. with the wall street protests into their fourth week now demonstrators voices rony getting louder and spreading wider from coast to coast in dozens of cities people have been taking to the streets to demand the end of the fat cat culture and economic inequality is one of port nies in the heart of the movement new york city. this demonstration that this group occupy wall street has really mobilized a lot of momentum and as far as the protesters value to remain and stay that clearly was the case this past weekend there was a bunch of protesters quit camped out outside of the new york stock exchange in lower manhattan and one man was arrested because he was sleeping in the walkway entering the new york stock exchange and that was
1:10 pm
a single arrest but there were so many people down there sleeping outside of it taking part in this demonstration that he only had room to sleep on the wall way before his arrest the demonstrators hung up a sign on the new york stock exchange building that said banks got bailed out we got sold out this weekend we also did see religious groups join this movement members of the christian jewish muslim clergy clergies in new york city joined demonstrators in lower manhattan to support them in this ongoing protest against corporate influence over u.s. politics families were also bringing their young children now in there to take part in this ongoing demonstration and there's a kickstarter called at the extent that it has to pay for an occupy wall street building in times square if just twenty thousand people logged on to their website
1:11 pm
in support of this billboard these demonstrations popping up all across the country in iowa for example thirty two people got arrested over the weekend for taking part in our street demonstration it's gotten so large that mainstream media in the united states has no choice but to cover it they cannot ignore it anymore and i think the tipping point was the arrest of nearly eight hundred peaceful protesters on the brooklyn bridge but even having said that though even the next day the new york times didn't give that story much room on the front page but now. mainstream publications such as the new york times and the mainstream media outlets in the us are turning their attention to this movement because you know alternative news stations are covering this story it's growing bigger and if mainstream media doesn't cover it it's going to be seen as an absolute blackout and too many people at this point in the u.s. too many americans are involved for the mainstream media to simply ignore it any longer report our correspondent in new york or your correspondents of course
1:12 pm
following developments in the heart of events in new york keeping you updated on how those protests unfold one of the latest tweets comes from. the city looks like a militarized zone right now being blocked off by police after last night's arrests for the defeat of the school called. russia could soon come to the rescue of debt ridden e.u. economies the helping hand was extended by a presidential aide however the details of the plan will be discussed only after europe comes up with a clear anti crisis strategy auntie's tom barton reports. well this news comes from the presidential economic aide who said there have been meetings recently focusing primarily on spain and those meetings raise the possibility of russia being able to buy some of spain's debt and so provide extra help for the e.u.'s debt crisis he also said that other brics countries brazil russia india china and south
1:13 pm
africa could try and help economically with the u.s economic woes but there is a big but it relies on the e.u. coming up with a clear plan to try and contain the debt crisis that is currently sweeping across the eurozone we all know about the problems in greece italy and spain credit ratings have recently been downgraded again raising fears of major debt problems there so russia says it's true it's too early at the moment to talk about any concrete plans to start buying up spanish debt we want to see a unanimous plan first to bar reporting for our t.s.p. to dr richard welling this is from the institute of economic affairs he said there is no other solution at this stage than the dissolution of the euro zone as he sees it. eventually if the. lights are on the mind even the most powerful economies in europe such as france and germany so basically i don't think this is the answer politicians and bureaucrats main their main priority is to avoid taking the blame
1:14 pm
so all they're doing is kicking the can down the road do you think german public opinion is hardening and of course german taxpayers or german savers are the people who are the real victims of these these quick fixes when the european central bank prints money to make an official buy lots of house and of course people with savings in euro's they're the ones that suffer from but of course the problem is that german taxpayers are going to be on the hook for not just greece but potentially all the other southern european countries so really the only long term solution is an orderly dissolution of the eurozone probably starting with grace coming up in the program tonight playing game blowing up america accuses pakistan of sheltering terrorists from fears the u.s. may lose a major ally in the so-called war on terror. thanks for saying chances are very high to me there came a national shelter or at least discover some traces of things. let's go there and
1:15 pm
she goes we set out on a quest to find the legendary yeti in a mysterious mountainous forest of siberia. russia says its veto of the latest u.n. resolution against syria was not designed to indulge president assad's regime statement comes as a delegation from the syrian opposition visits here moscow to discuss solutions to the country's ongoing violence go pers can also been following the meeting. members of the syrian opposition are in moscow they've met with russia's two african nations mikhail margelov and the main message being told to them at the moment is that even though moscow did block the draft resolution on syria it does not support president assad's regime pretty much it's important to understand that russia's veto is not designed to give a free hand or carte blanche to president assad's regime if the syrian government has missed the message it's high time to understand it should go ahead with genuine
1:16 pm
not formal forms and gauge in dialogue with all sides of the conflict not only those who are comfortable partners moscow has been furiously criticizing the violence in syria throughout the entire conflict and according to the u.n. it's already taken the lives of nearly three thousand people just earlier we heard from president bush said that syria is in desperate need of democratic reform and even that it's the turn of stories will not be able to put these reforms through they would have to go but peacefully i'm not a result of any foreign military forces getting involved similar to how the events unfolded in are still unfolding in libya so russia block to the western backed the u.n. resolution which did not exclude the chances are for military intervention currently russia and china are proposing their own resolution which condemns both sides for the violence of last week i thought here in moscow met with representatives of the syrian authorities but they are still here they say they are not ready to hold any

negotiations with the oppositions just yet. pakistan says it's arrested a dozen al-qaeda linked suspects and follows increasing pressure from the us which accused the country sheltering terrorists while officially the to see eye to eye on many issues some of washington a ready to support action against is i'm about is gonna get you can report. the drums of war beating loud and clear washington calls pakistan a safe haven for terrorists we can now hear. coming across the border attacking their forces attacking afghanistan afghanistan and then disappearing back into a safe haven. economy network for one acts as a veritable arm of pakistan's internal services intelligence agency pakistan is furious over the accusations calling them unsubstantiated and saying that washington came very close to losing a major ally in its war on terror if you talk about things i'm quite old says
1:18 pm
things of many terrorist organizations around the world which by which we mean intelligence things over the last ten years pakistan has repeatedly compromised its own sovereignty to help the americans in their operations the u.s. while chasing down suspected terrorists has been bombing pakistan with drones on a regular basis the strikes have killed thousands of civilians youth of going to die is not against our sovereignty it is also counterproductive it's the people of the two want to been friends in the fight against terrorism after the latest threats from washington fearing an even tougher assault thousands of pakistanis angrily rallies to say enough is enough for these people the u.s. is a hostile power it's china that they see is a friend in the americans in this one instance have hand it over a major hearts and minds victory to the chinese in pakistan in spring china officially notified washington that any attack on pakistan will be seen as an act
1:19 pm
of aggression against beijing the pakistani prime minister praised his country's relations with china calling them quote higher than mountains deeper than oceans stronger than steel and sweeter than honey washington on the other hand seems to have mastered the art of alienating friends with pakistanis taking. america's accusations that they support terrorists as a way to shift the blame for the failure of u.s. policies on pakistan but the blame game may blow up into full scale aggression the experts believe that we need to elevate our response they will have a lot of bipartisan support on capitol hill u.s. lawmakers have already signaled that if there is the will for tough action against pakistan they'll support it and when washington says the words safe haven for terrorists that's what you expect tough action and if it does happen pakistan could be the new afghanistan but with china as a friend and nuclear bombs at hand sounds like
1:20 pm
a deadly combination for the united states and kind of reporting from washington our team. places they are. focuses on what interests the u.s. in pakistan right now. there is no imperial ambitions there are we trying to get out we try to punish the people who attack the united states we've done some most of that and there's a lot of argument for getting out very quickly certainly obama much of the right ministry of the republicans want to get out about going to very quickly how many terrorists do you have to kill before you finally say enough's enough i mean the government there been no constraints on the number of people that have been able to be killed ten years of this no constraints drone attacks assassinations bombings killing of wedding parties at some point isn't it time to say another snuff. cross-talk on air on this channel two hours from now. and found an unfounded rousing fear of. evidence of the existence of bigfoot remains elusive however for

the yeti shows no sign of ending as it is maria for national siberian expedition to try to track down the legit. the yeti also known as big food manhole sus court has been exciting scientists and enthusiasts from all the world for more than a century but explorers have never had enough evidence to determine that this apparently gigantic creature is more than just a big legend these beautiful mountainous forests in russia siberia are among the few places on earth thought to be roamed by yet and this is where the scientists from around the globe have come for the largest expedition of its kind since the nineteenth fifties to set out what's never been done before to finally catch the creature. but first we go to get blessing from this lions indigenous inhabitants and to list their spiritual support.

shaman and doesn't have any doubts i'm not shocking to tell you that but yes he does exist encouraged we continue our journey the path goes through impossible target thicket in the hunt for the evidence every minor detail becomes important ranch is twisted like this is believed to be a key clue to the his existence the scientists say it could not have been done by animals as they don't have heads of fingers to do and humans cannot do this way either as they are just not strong enough. the deeper we go into the forest the more so cold marco's would come across to the gods in the middle of a virgin tiger forest are also high interest the participants all things expedition are saying it's not just wind falling trees the branches they could have been

putain this way deliberately by someone and the other stroke of luck will meet a local who says he saw a tall man like harry caray chaney a by the explorer saying chances are very high to me to get over there in the cave in the shelter or at least discover some traces of this crater so let's go there. and sure enough the clues emerge there is what seems to be. a token if you like you suggested but certainly not a bad the scientists agree while remaining cautious of jumping to conclusions but this is beautiful surface for which for tracking and there's only that one interesting line here i'm certain that you are right there. on the right. foot playing hopscotch should like to see a left foot. best the left one has never been discovered and celebration is a put on hold these are the real thing or they're convenient props to make

a very good story but i wouldn't be quick to determine which of those two alternatives is the truth without further. the study that'll take a while could provide cost iran proof of the yet is existence but there are plenty here who want to be held in their breath that. even if you bring them snowmen dead or alive the skeptics will say that's a pathology or mutation i think this could be explained by an impotent including financial impotence of the academic science. them bishes expedition seems to have those involved going in circles and so it seems that until concrete evidence is found the discovery of big food remains a big feat. reported from siberia. just look at how quickly you can run a few minutes imagine discovering that you don't really own the land you live on

and that you can't stop an energy company's plans to drill for natural gas on your very own doorstep interesting scenario outlined in our report coming up in america's rocky mountains the business next. hour welcome to business here in the ambition to turn moscow into a global financial center will remain regardless of who wins the upcoming elections presently truman did it says the current course of modernization is all trouble this article has the details. president medvedev says step by step moscow is first goal of becoming an international financial center in the latest rating by a respected international research group russia's capital had moved seven places from the previous year but it is still hanging in the middle of the lead the president stresses more will be caught red tape and to increase the liquidity of the markets a process that will continue regardless of who is in the kremlin. but. russia

is entering the pre-election period this relates to parliamentary elections and presidential elections next year however i would like to highlight the creation of the financial center is a long term priority no one can change this. russia's two main stock exchanges they are. in the process of merging the new exchange will be the world's non-flying just once unification is complete the management believes it could move up to third place within four years if all the synergies pay off and not a significant addition to the creation of a unified security deposit or a system to make trading more transparent and squeak and just to remind you the main person in charge of turning moscow into an international financial center is a russia's x. finance minister. who despite falling outs with president medvedev over budget spending is still in step when it comes to promoting moscow. time to look at the
