obama as a charismatic version of american exceptionalism the big . get up sometimes you see a story and it seems so for life complete you think you understand it and then he glimpse something else and you hear see some other part of it and realize that everything is ok if you don't i'm trying hard welcomes the big picture. says. let's not forget that we had an apartheid regime right here in the lead i think iraq the bombings even one hundred twelve. whenever government shows they're very keen to safely get ready because in the air

an idea that some economists are floating around suggesting that massive debt relief for the people is the only way americans get out of this mess the economic situation so should taxpayers be bailed out in their debts just like the government bailed out the banks is going to produce a treasonous thank you to find out what you have to say. how would you like to have all your debt go away just like that your mortgage could disappear like magic. that's what some of congress argue would help this economy moving again and a lot of people would love to agree after all the government bailed out the banks why not the american people well you'd be surprised what some of our viewers had to say arthur told us the government should focus on getting its own finances in order first vote for bailing out banks or taxpayers your one imaginary friend said i don't think taxpayers should be forgiven for their debts. sixty six told us the debt i took on is my over sponsibility wow you know it sounds like a lot of you who wrote it must still have good paying jobs put berners make matter

who believes banks remove obscene fees for every transaction allow affordable refinancing for mortgages and for give penalties and interest on loans it would be a good start even though the majority of our viewers not think that americans home debt should be forgiven and how that's an interesting contradiction i mean the federal government gets to live beyond its means with little or no consequences but every day americans suffering under crippling debt and high unemployment are allowed to simply drown there is definitely something wrong with that picture. now as always we thank you for your responses and here's our next question for you at home earlier in the show we just spoke to journalist david sirota about the washington disconnect with the occupy wall street movement so what do you think should alike that officials and politicians endorse the occupy wall street protests if they just stay out of it you can respond with on facebook twitter and you tube i don't know if your response just might make it on air. now to talk about cell phone privacy if the. a civil liberties battleground issue to be decided in the state of
6:34 pm
california see correlator persons pulled over at a traffic stop or taken into custody anything of their carrying on their person is able to be searched by law enforcement wasn't such a huge issue until mobile devices became popular giving police the ability to search through everything on a person's cell phone or tablet as part of their routine search meaning without a warrant so that means that contacts text messages phone location data pictures all of it is fair game and it's a troubling trend i discussed with brian rattie of back in january. any time you are arrested by police for any reason which could include the parking tickets trying to get a seat belt reckless driving the police could take your from a rescue and once you're in custody under arrest behind bars they can spend hours trying to search your phone anything they find can be used to get to court to use for a search warrant. now earlier this year the california state supreme court upheld the right of law enforcement to search the mobile devices but the state legislature
6:35 pm
clearly saw the lack of constitutionality and they decided to do something about it so they passed s.b. nine fourteen a bill that would require police to get a warrant before they go through an arrested person's mobile device and despite our pleading governor brown to sign that legislation last sunday brown decided to veto the bill and appease law enforcement instead of siding with privacy why reported back in september the governor was leaning that way on s.b. nine fourteen thanks in part to one hundred thousand dollars in efforts by law enforcement lobbyist to encourage them to veto and here's the real kicker the ground's veto he said the issue is too complicated for him to make a decision on so he thought it best to leave to the courts which already ruled five to two in favor of warrantless cellphone searches after giving for asking but what's too complicated to decide here constitutional protection versus appeasing the cops and governor brown has clearly sided with the cops here and critics have already spoken out against brown vetoes or in care well known fourth amendment advocate so the government should have sided with the legislature and i'm going to
6:36 pm
bet that civil libertarians are going to remember this move when brown gears up for reelection by the way i see it governor brown made his stance very clear he's going to side with law enforcement and potential campaign donations over the constitution just like the rest of them. now today the justice department announced that an alleged plot to assassinate the saudi ambassador to the united states with help from a purported member of a mexican drug cartel had been foiled calling it an international murder for hire scheme u.s. attorney general eric holder said that you accuse our agents of the iranian government that the u.s. would hold the wrong accountable and in fact the white house state department and treasury department are all involved in developing new measures against iranian government although they haven't specified what those may be the two men are months or are bobsy are fifty six year old u.s. citizen who also holds an iranian passport angle i'm sure wealth already ses it cuts force member and holder said that a sting operation began in may the president was informed of it in june of this year and that the mexican government had aided in a month long investigation f.b.i.
6:37 pm
director robert mueller so this case illustrates that we live in a world where borders and boundaries are increasingly irrelevant but it's not really the case and how long before we start hearing the bomb around ground of bomb iran crowd trying in here to and we can discuss it as jack rice former cia officer and criminal defense attorney i want to thank you for joining us tonight and i'm just wondering what your initial reaction was when you heard the story because robert mueller the f.b.i. director said that it reads like a hollywood script and if you think about it it really does you have the iranians working with the mexican drug cartels to carry out you know a bomb plot here on u.s. soil that has to do with their mortal enemy the saudi arabians you could make this stuff up. yeah it's very very clear and certain about this or you for obvious reasons you can go back and the road is a bit long standing connections with terrorist organizations around the world and we absolutely have established that and so that's one reason we have to be careful in this and yet at the same time he's does very almost like
6:38 pm
a movie plot all right and we have to sit down and consider maybe it wasn't the iranians are the ones for a false flag operations that could be actually conducted by other were there who may have wanted to blame your audience right now so that need be one of the issues i just think need to be very very careful here but you know clearly the details are still coming out on this because they just broke this news a couple of hours ago today and i think that we're going to find out more as it goes along it could very well be real and it could be great if they just put all this terrorist plot but if you think about iran and what they're possible intentions might be why would they want to carry out an attack on u.s. soil. well the logic seems to be this and this is what we're really hearing out of the attorney general's office out of the bureau is that there's a long standing in a mostly between the iranians on one side and subs on the other and i think the logic behind this is with so many others in the middle east of course we can talk libya we can talk about egypt now potentially the idea if the so we asked the
6:39 pm
united states we're. in some of this might cause instability in saudi arabia but it seems to be the argument but the problem with that logic is that it still does really a sterile is how whose benefits you grow up you see that's the only problem all of these arguments don't really of track with what we've seen you go means have been more than willing to commit various operations around the world and they've absolutely done this every time they have done this and have been very calculated and very cold about this but part of calculated in terms of why they were doing it and it was for absolute your bomb you benefit at this point i'm having a hard time finding that absolute benefit that i've seen in past operations now could you even argue that this might be that or mental for iran because on one side you can say that the relationship between the u.s. and saudi arabia since the arab spring has happened has been deteriorating somewhat and sell now this might bring the two closer together that oh i think you're
6:40 pm
absolutely right you go there former national security adviser came about just a couple of weeks ago to the u.s. chamber of commerce and talked about how our willingness to drop our support for the president mubarak of egypt and some of this is made just much more difficult for the americans it would be a local guest of our friends including the saudi arabians that makes it sort of interesting when you turn around and you look at your own zip code this could actually make this harder for iran not easier for iran because not all the sudden we can have the closing of the groups between the americans and the saudis and just . so you agree he did the same to these really because no one you see the iranians as the devil as the absolute in figo if you will soon you're going to go in there these people deserve to be hit see that's the fear of the chatter that i'm hearing around of the wall right you know who's that what the iranians are
6:41 pm
concerned about and others are also concerned about is the potential stroke but it is really it's and that seems to be one of the things that though i'm not saying that they're necessarily connected but i am so you know there are people out there wondering if there is a connection or now we're hearing for now is that the state department the justice department the treasury department the white house they're all coming out with some type of response to iran attorney general eric holder if that's where we have no idea about how you think it's going to take for the bomb iran war hawks that we know so well to lindsey graham john mccain the john bolton the bill crystal's of the world to come out and say we have to bomb iran right now we've seen john bolton say it before last time when he said that israel only had eight days to do it. yeah i actually lose absolutely i think back to conversations i've had with ambassador bolton about this and i remember him telling me the same thing that what it is that israelis need to do or the americans needed to do was to either replace the leadership of iran or both of them so i'm not shocked if you're going to see
6:42 pm
a whole series of groups out there now say you know it's time to take out the your audience here taking me back to this question of well we didn't do that but he's released and so that is a real concern but i think what's really important is that what the bureau needs to do what justice department really needs to do is if these guys in fact are responsible i think it is a criminal defense attorney then following prosecute them but don't prosecute them in some sort of strange came report that brought these guys in in one ton of oh i'm talking about prosecuting them in federal courts where you said you know when you have federal rules of evidence and you actually prove that you guys did this rather than some strange masquerade what we say well we know we did it with the best country in the world if we're the strongest condition system in the world now let's stand up and prove it so i'd like to see that happen we'll see if it actually it's also part thousand like it's going out and they are being charged in a federal court now lastly as happy as we all can be if any of this plot was foiled
6:43 pm
i just want to read you a statement here that comes from attorney now this is from prepare a site he is the u.s. attorney in manhattan and he said we will not let other countries use our soil as their battleground that's just a little hypocritical for us to say. we like to use other people's oil for our. i mean you know sometimes in some of these responses clearly i understand that the out already is there or that the attorneys have to take a strong stance and that they have to make a point clear but sometimes maybe just don't say things when everyone else can point a finger and say you do the same thing but you know we're going to keep following the story and see what other details to come out the meantime jack thanks so much for joining us tonight. now still to come tonight a great g.o.p. flip flop or the struck again are coming up in tonight's bull's-eye ward and in it happy hour tonight hank williams jr new song bashing fox news and e.s.p.n.
6:44 pm
is out plus and coulter is mad and threaten violence i can just not. let's not forget that we have an apartheid regime right now. i think the rock the bombings eatable and one well. we have a government says they're going to keep you safe get ready because of the your freedom. you know sometimes you see a story and it seems so cool a complete you think you understand it and then you've lived something else here's
6:45 pm
some other part of it and realize that everything is ok and you don't know if i'm charged locums a big issue. you just put a picture of me when i was like nine years old i like to tell the truth. i'm obsessed and i am a total get of friends that i love rap and hip hop is excellent and for. that he was kind of the guest today. i'm very proud of the role that algis year has played.
6:46 pm
i'm sorry for tonight's tool time award and tonight goes to mitt romney the g.o.p. presidential front runner is trying to have it both ways when it comes to occupy wall street last week he was asked about the protests that began on september seventeenth and he said quote i think it's dangerous this is class warfare but after seeing the protests grow over the last few weeks spread to more cities across the u.s. it appears that mitt thinks this might be movement that he should support now i don't worry about the top one percent i don't know nights worrying about you we need to help them i don't think a puppet i'm not worried about that they're doing just fine by themselves i worry about the ninety nine percent in america i want america once again to be the best place in the world to be middle class i want to have a strong and vibrant and and and prosperous middle class in short i look at what's
6:47 pm
happening on wall street and well my own view is boy i understand how those people feel i believe that mitt romney just indorsed i could buy wall street protesters just days after calling that dangerous class warfare so looks like we have yet another mitt romney flip flop on our hands you know mitt romney is a lock in contradiction who changes my depending on the latest poll numbers from health care to abortion the second amendment education we've had various opinions on every single one of those subjects and texas governor rick perry tried to make a case in the last debate that romney was a serial flip flopper but of course you know he kind of blew that line. is it the mitt romney that was on the side of against the second amendment before he was for the second amendment was it was before he was before the social programs from the standpoint of he was for standing up for roe versus wade before he was against verse roe versus wade he was for race to the top
6:48 pm
he's. for obama care and now he's against it. gazans are but every chance we get we do have to play about a big blunder that we will his make or the big three lakh everything will five but back to mitt romney here played a split block by wall street just doesn't publicans another reason to be suspicious of it he's basic he was a good reason to do anything say anything to get elected and last month we told you about him trying to change his image romney's trying to be the every day man now he's flying on southwest airlines eating at fast food joints all on the road and he's making sure that everybody knows about it on twitter and just for good measure we're going to play a clip of romney promising a campaign free of pandering for votes just two weeks ago i think the american people recognize that we're taught a crisis and they want to hear the truth and they can tell when people are being sold and are and are pandering to an audience and you'll see that in politics you
6:49 pm
know going to see that my campaign. but once again we are here having to call mitt per pandering to a new audience the occupy wall street crowd and that's why we're giving that romney and i through a time of war and if the kerry campaign is watching feel free to use our latest tool if i word of romney or next attack ad but be careful rick because we're not big fans of you either. i guys time for happy hour and joining me tonight is our team producer jenny churchill and alex lights while assistant editor for think progress dot org thanks for joining me we have a lot of some angry angry conservatives today and we're going to start off with ann coulter take a look. it's always unfair to do that right with some generals who started out in
6:50 pm
the military well first of all i. should have pardoned. chris wallace for saying that when he came on the second half of the program i'm sick of people. you know it's very different. so she's really really pissed because yesterday we were talking about the fact that rick santorum was written or he was read a quote as to how he felt about gays serving in the military and it turns out that was about. decades ago and so now she just wants to punch chris wallace for doing the job and maybe asking a question every now and then i think she should stab him with one of her high heels. i don't think i would really put that on the story she seems like a violent one to me yes she would play to the shores but she could use her along because like with blacks to go after chris wallace but i mean this whole thing is ridiculous she's taking the side of rick santorum who's saying that you know being gay is a choice is about is a behavioral issue and therefore unlike race and she's become the weird
6:51 pm
conservative gay rights hero she's. on our air it's the weirdest thing here she is like wanting to beat up chris wallace because he asked my question and let's be clear here she's saying that the difference is that you know you can tell that a black person is black by looking at them but you can't tell that a gay person is gay by looking at found that it's behavioral i mean that's absolutely ridiculous because i'm going to be able to think on this in the rain today the first arguments back in the day were that not that black people skin was different it was that they acted different because they were different and in the birth of a nation it showed a man attacking a white woman because he was crazy first crazed first tax and had rape or i mean it's just it's ridiculous because then seemed to her and went on to say oh k.'s are going to be showering with normal people it's the same thing they won't be able to resist their urges to how they're going to make the soap fall on the ground ok sorry i mean. actually about that i think maybe you had a cold there should fight it out maybe. a little scared of any high boots i won't
6:52 pm
put you up for that one but maybe you know she's interested all i can arrange a little something on the street ok let's move on to the next person that's angry hank williams jr we've been discussing this story he went on and compared obama or said that playing golf with obama would be like gandhi playing golf with hitler then e.s.p.n. kicked him off and now he's really angry and so he's released a new song getting back at fox and now who can i say wrong getting back and fox and and yes ma'am. but. you know.
6:53 pm
don't tread on me i just love got to be in every country song it's my favorite you know ok so change is also a very popular part of the discussion you know on one hand there are a lot of people who go out there and say a lot of crazy stuff all the time and hank williams thing was by far not the worst of it but i wouldn't really say that fox news twisted his words i mean they just played exactly what he said on camera yeah i mean i asked him what he thinks about president obama and he brought up the entire banner obama golfing incident entirely brought up there weren't you know there were two missing at all and he was clearly in repentant he apologized but this song is not a man sorry. i'm a little bothered by all of this because in the beginning i said you know it what he said was enough out of it it's ridiculous that he got tough money however this song makes no sense to me he's now saying basically that box how did out for him and i guess they're not so they're not conservative enough for him i mean what is
6:54 pm
he watching glenn beck's online person who's conservative enough for that i mean you know it's one thing to come out and get a zinger god said i'm not backing down but then when you start making a bad argument and rethink your own words and saying someone else twisted your words even though you just said them directly on camera. kind of a lose lose for him so you can claim you know here and kind of a funny thing too he stole that song name from his daughter's song that she released two years ago and i well i mean i've heard it but you're not very popular song in fact and there's. some country music was nice to see like how they thought about the song and just that. lou destroyed our country dot com. it got half a star out of five and said it was more like a rough draft and somebody writing in their journal late at night was free so he's not going he knew it was a good go to an article that expect cracked music sorry america. ok so let's move on to we have a couple occupy wall street stories today but the first one is this was
6:55 pm
a story on fox news and the headline was occupy wall street blasts banking industry college rises to its own banker and so basically what happened is the protesters they've received donations from people right this is how they buy their food keep the rallies going and everything and so obviously you have to use banks to process your donations and at some point the accounts it was frozen and so they thought that this was all a big conspiracy by the banks because they were getting scared to occupy wall street movement so they had to freeze the accounts and it turns out that was actually happening they were getting such a high volume of these donations that it actually just froze the account and so then they released an apology and like yeah did i make them look stupid or belittle big conspiratorial i don't think so but at the same time i'm really bothered by the people who are the total just partisan hacks here that think that this is some kind of in. the wall street protesters you know that every they're not saying we don't think we should have big spirit you know they're not saying that we can't be using
6:56 pm
the banks are saying they're unhappy with the amount of influence of the banks the fact of the executives at the banks are the ones that committed so many of the crimes that brought our economy down and never were held accountable for it and so i just kind of resent this type of twisting as if they're not allowed to use banks anymore because they're occupying wall street i don't know if you've written here. i mean to be like somebody you know fighting against government getting a parking ticket and i mean like like you or somebody being poor don't have anybody party couldn't you know can't use anything of the government might ever provide yet so today there was actually new example of this it was a picture of a guy like and corporate evilness and he was holding. coke like a coca-cola and everyone's like oh my god she's supporting coca-cola of all being against corporations gotcha no actually what you want to all like go live on a farm somewhere and not have any products of any type because the corporations are taking advantage of us that's not feasible we need to figure out a way to regulate them not be naked without food well that is the this is the
6:57 pm
problem you know like i think if there is really a chance for this movement and for everybody to understand and get behind certain elements of it and even just a little part of some people that can step beyond that are yes only a contradiction of the crazy straw man bench and they have these guys actually are not like the actual people on the ground are really great we only have like twice i can so let me just show you got my wall street condoms that condit media condom store has begun selling in new york and basically they say they're selling them to seventy percent discount to demonstrate their support for social change the worthy pursuit virtuous pursuit of equality for all and they don't want to look like they're totally profiteering off and i want a street movement but this is really fun since apparently they're just happy to have sex all day you know they have their own their own condoms there you go but i because that's where that would have very big for joining me tonight. are you guys but that a night so thanks for tuning in and they should be back tomorrow and conspiring to be back on the program any time to forget to become a fan of the latest on facebook and follow us on twitter and if you missed any of tonight's show or any other night you know we catch shelley on the flash the lower
