as a charismatic version of american exceptionalism. you know sometimes you see a story and it seems so for like sleep you think you understand it and then a glimpse something else you hear sees some other part of it and realize that everything is ok if you don't i'm sorry welcome to the big picture. says. let's not forget that we had an apartheid regime right here in the lead i think iraq is beatable and one hundred twelve. were never government says they're concerned safer get ready because the air freedom.
10:31 pm
for food. fight for. the so. it's time for show and tell us tonight now last time if that's. amby runs as though
10:32 pm
about an idea that some comments are floating around that suggesting a massive debt relief for the people is the only way that americans get out of this mess not a situation so should times players be bailed out in their debts just like the government bailed out the banks it's going to do so with reason to send you to find out what you have to say. how would you like to have all your debt go away just like that your mortgage could disappear like magic. that's what some of congress argue would help this economy moving again and a lot of people would love to agree after all the government bails out the banks why not the american people well you'd be surprised what some of our viewers had to say arthur told us the government should focus on getting its own finances in order first vote for bailing out banks or taxpayers you're going to madge unary friend said i don't think taxpayers should be forgiven for their debts in sixty six told us the debt i took on is my own responsibility wow you know it sounds like a lot of you who wrote it must still have good paying jobs put them there is make
10:33 pm
that who believes its banks or move obscene fees for every transaction allow affordable refinancing for mortgages and for give penalties and interest on loans it would be a good start even though the majority of our viewers did not think that americans home debt should be forgiven it highlights an interesting contradiction i mean the federal government gets to live beyond its means with little or no consequences but every day americans suffering under crippling debt and high unemployment are allowed to simply drown there is definitely something wrong with that picture. now as always we thank you for your responses and here's our next question for you at home earlier in the show we just spoke to journalist david sirota about the washington disconnect with the occupy wall street movement so what do you think should elected officials and politicians and door softly by wall street protest if they just stay out of it you can respond with on facebook twitter and you tube and you know is your response just might make it on air. now to talk about cell phone privacy and the latest civil liberties battleground issue to be decided in the
10:34 pm
state of california see curly for persons pulled over at a traffic stop or taken into custody anything that they're carrying on their person is able to be searched by law enforcement wasn't such a huge issue until mobile devices became popular giving police the ability to search through everything on a person's cell phone or tablet as part of their routine search meaning without a warrant so that means that contacts text messages phone location data. pictures all of it is fair game and it's a troubling trend i discussed with ryan rally of back in january. any time you were arrested by police for any reason which could include ok parking tickets are going to see philip driving the police could take you from a rescue and what you're in custody under arrest behind bars they can spend hours trying to search your phone anything they find can be used to get to court for sure to watch. and now earlier this year the california state supreme court upheld the right of law enforcement to search mobile devices but
10:35 pm
a state legislature clearly saw the lack of constitutionality and they decided to do something about it so they passed s.b. nine fourteen a bill that would require police to get a warrant before they go through an arrested person's mobile device despite our plea to governor brown to sign that legislation last sunday brown decided to veto the bill and appease law enforcement instead of siding with privacy and wired reported back in september the governor was leaning that way on s.b. nine fourteen thanks in part to one hundred thousand dollars in efforts by law enforcement lobbyist to encourage him to veto and here's the real kicker to brownsville he says the issue is too complicated for him to make a decision on so he thought it best to leave to the courts which already rules by that he would favor of warrantless searches now for giving for asking but what's too complicated to decide here constitutional protection versus appeasing the cobs governor brown has clearly sided with the cops here and critics already spoken out against brown v those orange hair well known for them advocate so the government should have sided with the legislature and i'm going to bet that civil libertarians
10:36 pm
are going to remember this move when ground gears up for reelection but the way i see it governor brown made his stance very clear he's going to side with law enforcement and potential campaign donations over the constitution just like the rest of them. now today the justice department announced that an alleged plot to assassinate the saudi ambassador to the united states would help reported number of a mexican drug cartel had been foiled calling it an international murder for hire scheme u.s. attorney general eric holder said the two accuse our agents of the iranian government at the u.s. would hold iran accountable and in fact the white house state department and treasury department are all involved in a bill of being new measures against iranian government although they haven't specified what those may be the two men are months or are bobsy are fifty six year old u.s. citizen who also holds an iranian passport angle i'm sure a lot already say as a qods force member now holder said the sting operation began in may the president was informed of it in june of this year and the next can government had aided in the months long investigation f.b.i.
10:37 pm
director robert mueller said of this case illustrates that we live in a world where borders and boundaries are increasingly irrelevant but it's not really the case and how long before we start hearing a bomb around ground a bomb iran crowd china in here join me to discuss it is jack rice former cia officer and criminal defense attorney jack i want to thank you for joining us tonight and i'm just wondering what your initial reaction was when you heard the story because robert mueller the f.b.i. director said that it reads like a hollywood script and if you think about it it really does you have the iranians working with the mexican drug cartels to carry out god's law here on u.s. soil that has to do with their mortal enemy the saudi arabians you could make the stuff. yeah it's very very good friends we're concerned about he said for obvious reasons you can go back and you wrote a long standing connections with terrorist organizations around the world that we absolutely have to stand up and stick and so that's one reason you have to be careful on this and yet at the same time this does sound very almost what movie
10:38 pm
plot all right and we have to sit down and consider maybe it wasn't the iranians or as i was for a supposed to have operations that could be actually conducted by other countries who are oak there who may have one can blame the iranians right now so that may be one of the issues i just knew very very carefully or you know clearly the details are still coming out on this because they just broke this news a couple of hours ago today and i think that we're going to find out more as it goes along it could very well be real and it could be great a basis for the terrorist plot but if you think about iran and what their possible intentions might be why would they want to carry out an attack on u.s. soil. the logic seems to be this and this is what we're really hearing out of the u. turn the general's office out of europe is that there is a longstanding animosity between the iranians on one side and so on the other and i think the logic behind this is with so many others being toppled the middle east of course we can talk about libya you can talk about egypt now potentially the idea if
10:39 pm
the saudi ambassador to the united states were in some of this might cause instability in saudi arabia but that seems to be the argument but the problem with that one hundred is that it still doesn't really establish how this benefits you grow you see that's the only problem all of these arguments don't really track with what we've seen the iranians have been more than willing to commit various operations around the world and they've actually done this but every time they have done this they have been very calculated and very cold about this but very calculated in terms of why did we get it was for absolutely wrong benefit at this point i'm having a hard time finding that absolute benefit that i've seen in past operations now could you even argue that this might be better mental for iran because on one side you can say that the relationship between the u.s. and saudi arabia since the arab spring has happened as been deteriorating sound like and sell now this might bring the two closer together again. oh i think you're
10:40 pm
absolutely right you can go with the former national security adviser who came out just a couple of weeks ago to the u.s. chamber of commerce and talked about how our willingness to drop our support for the president mubarak of egypt and some of this is made this much more difficult for the americans that we reach it with all the rest of our critics including the saudi arabia it's that makes it sort of interesting when you turn around and you look at your wounds oh this could actually make this harder for iraq not easier for iran because not all of a sudden we can have is the closing of the roads between the americans and the saudis and to some degree even the very same this is these great leagues because never all of the sudden you see the iranians as the devil as the absolute infidel if you will if you're a sunni are going to go in that these people deserve to be hit see that's the fear the chatter that i'm hearing around the world right now is what the iranians are
10:41 pm
concerned about and others are also concerned about is the potential strike but he's really it's a that seems to be one of the things that they're ok i'm not saying that they're necessarily connected but i am certain there are people out there wondering if there is a connection well now what we're hearing for now is that the state department the justice department the treasury department the white house they're all coming up with some type of response to iran general eric holder is that they we have no idea but i'm giving it's going to take more of the bomb iran war hocks that we know so well that lindsey graham john mccain the john bolton the bill crystal's of the world to come out and say we have to bomb iran right now we've seen john bolton say it before last time when he said that israel only had eight days to do it. yeah. absolutely i think back to cover stations i've had with ambassador bolton about this that i've never even told you the same thing that what it is that the israelis need to do or the americans needed to do was to either replace the leadership of iran or both of them so i'm not shocked if you're going to see
10:42 pm
a whole series of groups out there now say you know it's time to take out the iranians you get taking me back to this question of well we didn't get it but it is very nice and so better he's a real concern you know what i think which really important is that what the bureau needs to do what what justice department really needs to do is if these guys in fact are responsible i think about this is a criminal defense attorney who thought i prosecute them but don't prosecute them in some sort of strange came to report the druggies case in one town about i'm talking about prosecuting them in federal courts where you sit down and you have federal rules of evidence and you actually prove these guys did this rather than some strange masquerade what we say well we know we did it with the best country in the world if we're the strongest judicial system in the world and let's stand up and prove it so i'd like to see that happen we'll see if it actually does well so far does look like it's going that way and they are being charged in a federal court now lastly as happy as we all can be if indeed this plot was foiled
10:43 pm
i just want to read you a statement here that comes around attorney now this is from pretty there are a sighting of the u.s. attorney in manhattan and he said we will not let other countries use our soil as their battleground that's just a little hypocritical for us to say. we like to use other people's oil for orbital . i mean you know sometimes in some of these responses clearly i understand that the operatives or that the attorneys have to take a strong stance and that they have to make a point clear but sometimes maybe just don't say things when everyone else can point a finger and say you do the same thing but you know we're going to keep following the story and see what other details you come out in the meantime jack thanks so much for joining us tonight thank you. now still the cons and i think the great g.o.p. flip flop or the struck again are coming up and i told my lord and happy hour tonight hank williams jr a new song bashing fox news and e.s.p.n.
10:44 pm
is out plus and called her as mad and threaten violence back into some of. those numbers given that we have an apartheid regime right. i think iraq the bombings eatable and one well. whenever the government says they're for the keep them safe get ready because you believe your freedoms. you know sometimes you see a story and it seems so please if you understand it in any glimpse something else here see some other part of it and realize that everything is ok and you don't i'm
10:45 pm
trying hard welcomes a big show. you just put a picture of me when i was like nine years old i didn't tell the truth. i confess and i am a total get over and said i love brad because he is excellent and pretty. but he was kind of the jester day. i'm very proud of the role that out she has played.
10:46 pm
i did suffer some nice tool time award and tonight it goes to mitt romney the g.o.p. presidential front runner is trying to have it both ways when it comes to occupy wall street last week he was asked about the protests that began on september seventeenth and he said quote i think it's dangerous this is class warfare but after seeing the protests grow over the last few weeks predatory cities across the u.s. it appears that mitt thinks this might be movement that he should support now i don't worry about the top one percent i don't know nights worrying about gee we need to help them i don't think a puppet i'm not worried about that they're doing just fine by themselves i worry about the ninety nine percent in america i want to miracle want to get to be the best place in the world to be middle class i want to have a strong and vibrant and and and prosperous middle class and sort of i look at
10:47 pm
what's happening on wall street and my own view is boy i understand how those people feel i believe that mitt romney just indorsed by wall street protesters just days after calling that dangerous class warfare so looks like we have yet another mitt romney flip flop on our hands you know mitt romney is a walking contradiction who changes mind offending on the latest poll numbers from health care to abortion the second amendment education and it's had various opinions on every single one of those subjects and texas governor rick perry tried to make the case in the last raven that romney was a serial flip flopper but unfortunately he kind of blue one. is it the mitt romney that was on the side of against the second amendment before he was for the second amendment was it was before he was before the social programs from the standpoint of he was for stand you know for roe versus wade before he was against verse roe versus wade he was for race to the top
10:48 pm
he's. for obama care and now he's against it. gazans are but every chance we get we do have to play about a big blunder and we will has because it makes me like everything if i but back to mitt romney his latest flip flop on by wall street just gives republicans another reason to be suspicious of it he's take it is a good reason to do anything say anything to get elected and last month we told you about him trying to change his image romney's trying to be the every day man now he's flying on southwest airlines eating at fast food joints while on the road and he's making sure that everybody knows about it on twitter and just pretty good measure we're going to play a clip of romney promising a campaign free of pandering for votes just two weeks ago i think the american people recognize sort of what a crisis and they want to hear the truth and they can tell when people are being phony and are and are pandering to an audience and you'll see that in politics you
10:49 pm
know going to see that my campaign. once again we are here having to call mitt preparing to a new audience the occupy wall street crowd and that's why we're giving that romney and i schools on a war and if the perry campaign is watching feel free to use our latest word of romney internet attack ad but be careful rick because we're not big fans of you either. i got time for happy hour and joining me tonight is our team producer jenny churchill and alex lights all assistant editor for think progress dot org thanks for joining me we have a lot of angry angry conservatives today and we're going to start off with ann coulter take a look. it's always unfair to do that with some generals who started about x.
10:50 pm
in the military well first of all i. should have punched. chris paul for saying that when he came on in the second half of the program i'm sick of people comparing good use of snow it's very different. so she's really really paced because yesterday we were talking about the fact that rick santorum was written or he was read a quote as to how he felt about gays serving in the military and it turns out that was about segregation from decades ago and so now he just wants to punch chris wallace for doing the job and maybe asking this question every now and then i think she should stab him with one of her high heels. i don't think i would really put up posters she seems like a violent one to me yes she would probably freak out a sure sign that she could use her along with clash to go after chris wallace but i mean this whole thing is ridiculous she's taking the side of rick santorum who's saying that you know being gay is of choice is about is a behavioral issue and therefore unlike race and she's become this like weird
10:51 pm
conservative gay rights hero she's. on our air it's the weirdest thing here she is like going to beat up chris wallace because he asked. and let's be clear here she's saying that the difference is that you know you can tell that a black person is black by looking at them but you can't tell that a gay person is gay by looking at them that it's behavioral i mean that's absolutely ridiculous because our kids debatable thing on this. day the first all arguments back in the day were that not that black people skin was different it was that they acted different because they were different and in the birth of a nation it showed a man attacking a white woman because he was craved for six raised her stacks and had to rape her i mean it's just it's ridiculous because then seem to her and went on to say oh we're going to be showering with normal people and it's the same thing they won't be able to resist their urges you to get out of the going to make the soap fall on the ground ok sorry that i don't know i don't. they are actually about i think maybe you and i did out maybe. a little scared of any high boots i
10:52 pm
won't put you up for that one but maybe you know she's interested all i can arrange a little something on the street ok let's move on to the next person that's angry hank williams jr we've been discussing the story he went on and compared obama or said that playing golf with obama would be like ghandi playing golf with hitler then e.s.p.n. kicked him off and now he's really angry and so he's released a new song getting back at fox who should i say wrong getting back and fox and and e.s.p.n. . but. you know.
10:53 pm
don't tread on me i just love got to be in every country it's my favorite you know ok so when you look at change it's also a very popular culture we've had this discussion you know on one hand there are a lot of people who go out there and say a lot of crazy stuff all the time and hank williams thing was by far not the worst of it but i wouldn't really say that fox news twisted his words i mean they just played exactly what he said on camera i mean i asked him what he thinks about president obama and he brought up the entire banner obama golfing incident entirely brought up there were there weren't you know there were saying at all and he is clearly under pens and he apologized but this song is not a man sorry. i'm a little bothered by all of this because in the beginning i said you know if what he said was enough to think it's ridiculous that he got tough money however this song makes no sense to me he's now saying basically that. how did out for him and i guess no not so they're not conservative enough for him i mean what is he watching
10:54 pm
glenn beck's. conservative enough for that's i mean you know it's one thing to come out and get a zinger a guy said i'm not backing down but then when you start making a bad argument interesting your own words and things and your words even though you just said them directly on camera. kind of a lose lose for him. here and kind of a funny thing too he stole that song name from his daughter's song that she released two years ago the chain and i well i mean i've heard of your very popular song in fact and i just went to some country music was nice to see like how they thought about the song and it just got. destroyed on country dot com. it got half a star out of five and said it was more like a rough draft or somebody writing their journal late at night it was free so he's not. going to go into an article that expect crap music if the trend sorry america . ok so let's move on to we have trouble occupy wall street stories today but the
10:55 pm
first line is this was a story on fox news and the headline was occupy wall street blasts banking industry apologizes to its own banker and so basically what happened is the protesters they've received donations from people right this is how they buy their food keep the rallies going and everything and so obviously you have to use banks to process your donations at some point the accounts it was frozen and so they thought of this was all a big conspiracy by the banks because they were being scared to occupy wall street movement so they had to freeze the accounts and it turns out i was actually happy they were getting such a high volume of these donations that actually just froze the account and so then they released an apology and like yeah did that make them look stupid in a little bit conspiratorial everything so a bit of the same time fee i'm really bothered by the people who are the total just partisan hacks here that think that this is some kind of in. and the was through pro day every day not saying we don't think we should have big period you know
10:56 pm
they're not saying that we can't be using the banks are saying they're unhappy with the amount of influence of the banks the fact of the executives at the banks are the ones that committed so many of the crimes that brought our economy down and never were held accountable for it and so i just kind of resent this type of twisting is that they're not allowed to use banks anymore because they're occupying wall street i don't know if you want to be here's. what i mean to be like somebody you know fighting against government getting a parking ticket and i mean like. me being poor going to anybody party couldn't you know can't use anything of the government might ever provide yeah so today there was actually a new example of this was a picture of a guy like and corporate evilness and he was holding. coke like a coca-cola and everyone's like oh my god she's supporting coca-cola while being against corporations catch ya know actually what you want to all like to live on a farm somewhere and not have any products of any type because the corporations are taking advantage of us that's not feasible we need to figure out a way to regulate them not be naked without food well that is the problem do you
10:57 pm
know like i think if there is really a chance for this movement and for everybody to understand and get behind certain elements of it and then even just a little partisan people that can step beyond that are fine yet only a contradiction of the crazy straw man invention they have of what these guys actually are not like the actual people on the ground are really quick we only have like twenty seconds so let me just show you the occupy wall street condoms that condit media condom store has begun selling in new york and basically they say they're selling them at a seventy percent discount to demonstrate their support for social change the word the pursuit of virtuous pursuit of equality for all and they don't want to look like they're totally profiteering off and eye wall street movement but this is really kind of since apparently they're just happy to have sex all day now they have their own their own condoms their ego i'd rather have because that's where that wooded area thanks for joining me tonight. are you guys that's a pretty nice job thanks for tuning in and make sure to come back tomorrow and experience going back on the program many times over again because i found the l'arche on facebook and follow us on twitter and you miss any of tonight's show or any other night you know you catch fellow you tube dot com
