well they're moving on to these side this as occupy wall street protesters take their fight from one side of town to the other making their voices loud in the neighborhoods of those in the top one percent of the movement continues to grow in popularity but little their next steps to be. i'm really happy and would have thought it would have happened earlier well it's no surprise people are angry with the state of the union and unemployment at an all time low americans can't make ends meet and millions are in doubt in losing their homes so why is
5:01 pm
anyone really shocked that protests are taking place. we're not here to use we're trying to do so just for your round get from the one corporate media coverage of the protests that's exactly what you say so as the mainstream media strikes out with reporting on occupy wall street alternative media steps up to the plate. and the plot against iran thank and then the u.s. claims to have boils and alleged assassination attempt in the nation's capital but it's fear trumping facts and who will benefit from pushing this iran conflict. it's wednesday october twelfth five pm in washington d.c. i'm liz wahl and you're watching our team. all the occupy wall street protests.
5:02 pm
continue to demonstrate across the country and new york protesters are expanding from their wall street base to other areas of the big apple from downtown to uptown they are marching in the upper east side and in case the billionaires aren't following what's happening protesters are taking it right so their doorsteps are right outside their gates in some cases yesterday occupy wall street launched a millionaire's march on their target list of tycoon conservative billionaire david koch here they are in front of his house in new york we spoke to one of the protesters there. this is one reason people. all murderers pay the taxes because. researchers working with you your country and do this really get what you pay and if you know pain for your country you're you're going to. not going to quit we're going to come over here i mean you can adjust the world for people also on the target list of rupert murdoch feo of news corps which
5:03 pm
of course is the parent company of fox news the network not so popular with occupy wall street protesters. there's foxes are all there are a very being driven out by protesters they repeatedly accuse the network you are or are lying well arcee has been covering this story from the very beginning and as the movement grows in popularity the mainstream media has now caught on but only from the sidelines we're even seeing some republican presidential candidates change their tune when it comes to the protest mitt romney at first called the protests dangerous class warfare now he's saying i worry about the ninety nine percent of america certainly sympathize with them here's a look at his thoughts about the protests during the presidential debate last night . the reason you're seeing protests as you indicated to wall street across the
5:04 pm
country is a middle income americans are having a hard time making ends meet. now it took a while for his son to catch on but now that the protests has caught their attention the focus is shifting from why they're protesting to get this protest means for america and a new poll shows that thirty three percent have a favorable view of the protesters twenty seven percent don't think so highly of them but an overwhelming majority of the american people seventy nine percent agree with the message of the occupy wall street movement that message is that big banks are benefiting from the bailouts and the system while everyone else suffers. but with a guest on state of the economy and record unemployment why would anyone shocked that people are angry and that up with the state of the nation r t is adriana a sarah takes a look at that question. from coast to coast americans are taking it to the streets. occupying wall street.
5:05 pm
and reading against the war machine. we've seen the mainstream media's response garbage is everywhere these are and our kids these are the people with you know. drugs are being sold and of course we all know the police response. but from the hoopla surrounding the news of lee's cover right you wouldn't be surprised not really when you think about the critical mass of frustration you know i know really happy and by it would have happened earlier well maybe they have a point it's no secret the u.s. is going through tough times latest job numbers show nine point one percent of americans are unemployed and that's not even take into account the others struggling to find jobs long term which pushes the totals to an alarming sixteen percent and with jobs few and far between young people are feeling the crunch as
5:06 pm
well but almost two million college graduates are employed spend sixty five seventy thousand dollars and. he's not the only one you have a lot of kids graduating college can't find jobs that's what happened in cairo that's what happened in madrid you don't want those kinds of riots here we sure don't mayor bloomberg but with forty six point two million americans now living below the poverty line and one in every five hundred seventy homeowners being served with walking papers in the month of august alone you might be right and worrying as protests grow does this sound familiar we haven't really had something. you know geared towards this this particular subject sense for the sixty's would you say that this reminds you that very much so you know minus the i call myself really good music
5:07 pm
he might have a point the household income gap has steadily been widening over the past forty years we're down economist joseph stiglitz puts it in simpler terms which happen in the last couple decades is twenty thought oh most a quarter of older income goes to the upper one percent. forty percent of you measure of the wealth goes to one percent financial turmoil and several unpopular wars make for a heady brewing dissatisfaction in a country like iraq the americans across the country think it's free. even but. it hardly comes from. reporting from washington argo. and joining me now for more is kevin the is the organizer of the october two thousand alive and movement kevin thanks for joining us you know i saw you there at the protest last week when it kind of launched and you've been there through it all bring us the
5:08 pm
latest of the developments there how it's progressing well to deal grain but we had a few days in paris for that so i think we know that well today we also had some really great there was a wall street comes to washington conference on how investors can profit from people's health problems how they can problem health care and we went over to the marriott hotel just a few blocks from here and one of our leaders margaret flower is a physician got into the conference and after the first panel got up in shame for trying to profit from people's illness. and mistake of thinking of health care as an investment whether this is really a human right we need to get wall street out of health care we need with the insurances you know health care is the son that's run through funding by the government need to be like improved and expanded medicare for all outside we had fifty or so protesters shouting shame on wall street they could hear is inside we were told they were just below us in their congress can hear us making our points
5:09 pm
and that was just one of many examples you also did a march they would have to justice for janitors janitors who work in buildings where the square thirty dollars per square foot they don't get that much in a day so we see the injustice in the economic system that we're trying to highlight it to the forefront as have been we've seen protests before you know and i. war protester in the bush area the bush era how the how was this first house area because cindy sheehan was out by as ranch. one there fred are are is a different it is different i mean this is an encampment we're here for the long haul and we were very pleased this week there's a major development for us was that the park service offered us to stay for four months i said you know if you want to stay here will give you a permit provided we even asked for it we get such a good media coverage such a good support in the public here people are so feeling economically insecure they want something that is they want to have somewhere they can come and find their political voice because right now people are excluded from politics we don't get
5:10 pm
a chance to speak were kept off the media or the corporate media not our t. of course worked were kept out of the halls of congress and testified before committees only here from lobbyist elections is dominated by money so none of the new normal tools work and so this is a new tool and we learned from egypt in tunisia and spain madison wisconsin and now it's come to new york and washington d.c. and dozens and dozens of other countries around the country to see these occupations everywhere people are fed up they want to see an end to corporate rule and power shifted to the people that's what we're supposed to be a country of by and for the people not of the corporations and we're seeing that we're seeing. consistent number of people it seems but it is spreading to different areas across the country do you expect this movement to growl or any of any more people and drove sat down and support this part that's what's happening around the world where this kind of thing is started so that some of these are start with fifty people or two hundred people in the ground thousands and tens of thousands
5:11 pm
were in the thousands level now we hope to grow tens of thousands we think people as they hear our message and so we're trying to do that we're trying to do is what the constitution says we the people in order to form a more perfect union we are doing our patriotic duty to try to improve this country it's way off track on many issues we want to see an end of corporatism and militarism it's time to end america. empire and focus our resources at home and rebuild our economy so if you will get back to work and people will all prosper from the standings on kevin we're going to hear more from you in a little bit we foreigners of the occupy wall street protests none of the mainstream media channels in the us filled refused to take these demonstrations seriously artie's anastasio churkin a takes a look at their coverage. it is easy to spot. disorganized a look but a step one ignore step two ridicule step three undermine that's the approach some media outlets seem to be taking when it comes to occupy wall street the real big
5:12 pm
thing that this movement needs to do is to appeal is to appeal directly to the millions of people who are direct victims of what has happened since two thousand and eight this has been tough to do through mainstream media outlets chose to start a party and they're going to try to have burning girl sitting right here in the media in america. they're not hippies we're not trying to have an excuse to just party around these are working people people can actually come from work come over here and volunteer their time showing up at the protest without the network's logo fox news has spearheaded operation undermine occupy wall street boy if you take a shower and they get a job if they want the college they're corporatist seen a hit below the belt approach prevail they're going to whatever you say and they're going to leave. and they're going to run whatever. it's no secret that it's the corporations protested against here but oh the big t.v. networks in the u.s.
5:13 pm
people are standing up against corporations that actually run the media benito mussolini or define fascism as a collaboration of corporation a government welcome to america guys that's what this is this is fascism at its finest little interest in substance or analysis has been shown like exploring why americans have been driven out onto the street like why you got here and i say well the name of the protests by wall street i think wall street has something to do with it media coverage peaked when a rest started taking place after the clashes. there is a. media interest and that's when all the major never seem to get taken this year as we can say i don't want to work. protesters here is thirty. if you created for. potential criminals and they don't know what they're talking about frankly it's really based in the end of his fruits of american politics some of the bigger networks prefer to keep their distance from the demonstrators the satellite trucks
5:14 pm
separated from the protests by street and barricades here on standby in case an option this is a traditional site of the protests the few journalists actually talking and listening to the people inside the crowds but mostly the independents and foreign media deep in the action that's really funny you know every day at around four thirty in the afternoon. t.v. trucks start arriving from every different channel it's like when one blackbird landscape lands and they're all here to do what used to be called. silly. for their six o'clock broadcast. the occupy wall street movement has been protesting for over three weeks but reporting on america's mainstream network screens on what it's really all about he's yet to catch up. on the situation archie you are. now kevin i want to bring you back into the conversation you're here you
5:15 pm
don't look like a dirty hippie to me. i mean why do you think there's there's an effort to denigrate the types of people that are coming out of the protests i mean we're just on that report in the mainstream media and i don't. want to hear about what you saw on the made for me what i call the corporate media. since corporations united states producing all the news in the country except for some smaller outlets it's the corporate media and they want to get the message the message is and corporate rule and concentrate corporate power they are concentrated corporate power they don't want to understand that message and so we're going to keep saying it what we did and we i think we've got actually pretty good coverage in washington d.c. we've been very lucky local news has been good washington post you know its reputation for. as we do a pretty good even politico today which is a very corporate outlet had a positive and positive stories about us and our strategy was to make everybody the media we first. look at october two thousand levon dot org you can see on the media page we had listed scores of media outlets in the ten outlets and we say in the
5:16 pm
beginning of that page to page we say everyone who comes in the media you have to come prepared to use your social networks your blogs e-mail list your organization affiliate with your facebook pages to get the message out and you to use your i phone app as a t.v. studio t.v. network take your outflows you can live stream everyone of that with an i phones and live stream and so we we have article teach people how to do that so we did that in order to show that the corporate media no they did not cover us of a cover of us thoughtfully there were hundreds of thousands of people knowing the truth and their credibility undermined i think it's work we're getting actually pretty fair coverage in washington d.c. at least on the corby of course fox news which has a lot of those because we're fox news clips they're probably still nationally the worst of the local fox news as pretty as pretty fairly and we're pretty please of the coverage we just keep pushing our message and getting more people involved but until now they have power in this country is a real sense in this country of powerlessness the big money the concentrated wealth that's where the power is but the truth is we do have the power to understand it
5:17 pm
and realize it we also have to have conference that we the people can do a better job in the economic and political elites who have sent this economy off the cliff and have us untangled to work at mars and around the world so we have conference that we can do this job and you know speaking of social media it played a big role and the arab spring in the middle east and you just mentioned it's playing a role here and this movement and how important do you think social media is with this occupy wall street movement i think it's critical i think where a critical moment in our history with regard to media we've gone to greater and greater concentration of media but now with the technology available we're seeing a democratized with the leaks was part of that that made a pass for any individual who works in big biz. government to anonymously leak information there's all sorts of other leaking operative local leaks for example another one you can leak information without being known so you become a news source without an identified but in the social media let's have a lot every person to become
5:18 pm
a media outlet if you look at five hundred people on freedom plaza and you say that each of you has the ability to be the media you have the social media if we act with intention together these five hundred people can reach hundreds of thousands of people we have that capacity if we start to act with intention and democratize the more powerful and the commercial media and i think that's where we're at this to the point where i was about to happen and you know kevin some of the republican presidential candidates at first say that they really knocked occupy wall street movement but in the turn of events we're seeing some of them change their tune and that romney for example i mentioned earlier he ever said it was class warfare and it was dangerous but now he's saying that he sympathizes with that and we're also we're also seeing john huntsman now and also show some support i would think doris that we haven't exactly but showing some support that they are sympathizing with this message right do you think that there's
5:19 pm
a change of heart all of a sudden i suspect mitt romney is probably polling in a focus groups he probably tested these issues in the waters and realizes that a lot of americans even republican conservative public the agree with the anger of the economy and the corruption the deep corruption of the u.s. government at all levels and there's the corruption of people like romney people who come from wall street that's who's corrupted our economy and and our government so he had better cover his stance on that and yet be careful and not go too far but he's been doing our biggest fear in fact is the embrace of current politicians democrats or republicans we don't we are independent of both parties we see both political parties as part of the problem they're both corrupted by big business donations president. but i was going around the country holding a fundraiser is going to cost thirty eight thousand five hundred dollars to get into that's a higher cost than the individual median income of americans so if you are a median income or you can take all the money you earned in the year and go into an
5:20 pm
obama fundraiser so both parties are out of touch we're talking about our bonus for you for inadequate solutions to every problem we face always these corporate solutions and half true half measures that don't solve the problem and people and those of us who are down and we want to see really transformational change and of empire and of corporate rule and shifting power of the people in a real participatory democracy that's were something great kevin thank you so much for keeping us updated the latest on this event was kevin zeese organizer of the october two thousand and eleven. and as we've proven our tears keeping up the banner with what's going on with the occupy wall street movement and if you're looking for more information when we're not on the air you can follow my colleague extraordinary our and our intrepid producer lucy cavanagh's in the midst of all the action in new york with the latest hottest news from the occupy from occupy wall street again if you like to keep up with the latest sights and sounds of occupy wall street you can follow lucy. catherine of. still ahead here on our at the iran
5:21 pm
n. trouble there is out of the u.s. oil is an alleged terror plot out of the country but after twenty four hours of mainstream media reporting and now seems some of the pieces of the puzzle are missing so is the you ask her it creating plots as pretax to war. what drives the world the fear mongering used by politicians who makes decisions to didn't break through that sort of if you may who can you trust no one who has you in view who would have the oval machinery see where we had a state controlled capitalism it's called sessions when nobody dares to ask we. do r t question more. just put a picture of believe what i was like no new years old on the shoulder true.
5:22 pm
i have a confession i am a total ghetto i love rap and hip hop is like the and pretty. it was kind of the kids today. i'm very aware of the all the options here it's please. welcome back you're watching our t.v. iran is coming under fire in the us after charges that fact factions of the iranian government plotted to assassinate the saudi arabian ambassador to the us right here in washington d.c. obama's top national security aides now say that the administration will lobby for a new international sanctions against the country but what is really behind the
5:23 pm
alleged terror plot go to me now is pepe escobar correspondent for the time. i paid for joining us who will now who stands to benefit from these alleged attacks. well first of all the house of cells because they are being feted as the thick of. the israeli lobby of course because now they can come back roll over once again this threat iran is our existential threat and something has to be done then just a military complex they're rooting for a war neo cons republican candidate say everybody in the us that the number one preoccupation things are foreign policy is iran bashing because it's another convenient bogeyman the problem is this fast and furious plot on rattled by eric holder doesn't make sense and that's the most important point can it you know that the american government wants the whole suspecting world to believe that the
5:24 pm
general of the i r g c which is a very complex and very sophisticated operation in tehran which is more important in their armed forces they have intelligence operatives all over the world they're going to search the contract hit not just style killing to a field corpus christi texas seals met with a record of bad checks and he's going to called back somebody posing as a member of this set this mexican drug cartel and boasts that you know i can give you one point five million dollars you're going to hit the ambassador and his favorite restaurant in washington i can provide it we cones of opium if you want to do business with michael jackson in their own as well so you know this in a script conference in hollywood this is a lot of that garbage i mean this problem is being peddled by the attorney general to states right now and this fast and furious law you just described it
5:25 pm
seems like a really ball of plot for it for happen right here in washington d.c. doesn't seem like a wise choice of plotting a crack on and on in that regard they would be on iran's best interest. when bark on this kind of plot and the. kind of unhappy iranian government they're both quoted as econet a very good question because if they want it if you feel target an ambassador he's going to be replaced by another ambassador the foreign policy of the country of targeting is not going to change because if you kill ten abettors in a row and for iran if they can if they wanted to kill a saudi ambassador they could do it in the middle east's very easy they have iranian agents all over the middle east they can be this all the about and that's a dream iraq where we live in would be very easy for them to do why would be plotting to mount a search a sophisticated operation on american soil knowing that if everything in u.s.
5:26 pm
is intercepted by american intelligence phone calls emails this guy had a record of bad checks on top of it he went to iran in came back when everybody had those that even if he has the full nationality which is gays are you going to be question over and over again so it doesn't make sense at all what it explosive will it of course we still have enough elements for it is that this guy's a patsy it was either use by the f.b.i. agents they built this story arter that and now they're incriminated a patsy and there's also the possibility that this is a black ops operation of course we still don't have enough elements to judge it but the problem is follow the money in followed rinses profits coming back to your first question. the house of south so they can both were to pensions from the fact that they are the mecca of a cal to revolution the arab spring they smash the arab spring in the persian gulf
5:27 pm
they're going to get. villains of dollars with a hundred and twenty billions of dollars in the long run of arms supplied by the u.s. they are creating the impression that everything that happens in terms of their action in the persian gulf is an iranian thought so these are the pearl of course of the coming back this really lobby because they need to go back to iran is that especially presently to do something before the next elections otherwise the next republican president will do now padre the u.s. has been careful in saying that this was an attack supported by actions on the iranian government is it possible to know how high up with alleged plot may go milled it because they don't know it according to the documents that were leaked the official f.b.i. documents if you read the documents there is no evidence whatsoever that this plan was approved or pulled on by any level of the iranian government we are even
5:28 pm
talking about a presidency or a taller say candidate there's no evidence at all but at the epicenter time poll there is saying that we're going to hold iran responsible how come if they cannot prove where this comes from cooler again or is this a lot look a there for real a relation this guy live at this you really an american has with his so-called relatives in iran how high up is this so-called general of the i r g c of the cool sports and if this could be maybe the road faction of the but that could force up the i r a to see who's trying to do some let's say drug business on the side of the illegal with mexican cartels nobody knows about this because there's no evidence now on the response that the u.s. the u.s. is taking for that and they're asking for nations around the world to crack down on
5:29 pm
iran secretary of state hillary clinton as calling for quite a chorus of international condemnation of iran idea of gasified steps to be taken in response to being for the collapse there a plot. i look at when they say their national community is this same usual suspect nato countries russia and china always in are going to do anything about it this us americans won't but as well it's very close relationships and a relationship with iran walt spittles countries in southeast asia and east asia as well because there's nothing proving and there's deep suspicion even around the arab street if you this could be another u.s. concocted plot to discredit iran especially now that in terms of realpolitik there was a repair a month after the liberation of the two american hikers and for the hard core law be the best for military the hard part.
