11:01 pm
well here we are in new york city it is a cloudy park and occupy wall street soon as we finish the show the me we jumped in the car and got here is basses because it's about one thirty in the morning it's already started raining it's going to be raining for they say the next twelve hours and there's a lot of excitement here you still hear a lot of chanting but also a lot of tension because the cops are supposed to show up at seven o'clock in the morning if you look over here you already see a big line of police cars and that's when the start cleaning the park out as the mayor ordered now they say they're going to let people back in but they say no sleeping bags as you can see why the protesters consider this an eviction notice so they've been preparing for the worst holding meetings all evening talking about what happens if you get arrested if you're in jail what your rights are and it seems like a lot of people really are preparing for a showdown there might be a lot more people in the morning to you we're going to have to wait and see what happens but from the people that i spoke to they said that when they asked who was willing to get arrested a lot of hands went up so only the morning i'll tell what happens.
11:02 pm
welcome delana shoukry get the real headlines with none of the mersey now as you can tell tonight we're coming live out of new york city we've been covering dr hua street movement since the day that it began and so we decided you know what it's just not right unless we bring our team and we come down here and we check it out for ourselves so tonight it's going to be completely dedicated to occupy wall street coverage now as you saw last night we first got here one thirty two o'clock in the morning the mood is pretty tense they thought the police were going to show up at seven o'clock in the morning but this morning it was announced that they had rescinded brookfield had rescinded that move to have a part clean up so check out what it looked like after that announcement was made. around the brain may not be any more opposite the second the other party made
11:03 pm
a clean up but. the rest of the everybody broke out the bickering. the drums the hours the general assembly the end of their lives by the hour now the words the law at the mercy of the police and the rest but if you think the american people say they're getting started that is a bill on the ballot but they feel like they won the day the battle. so as you can tell everybody was in pretty good mood today and so one of the things about this movement is that it doesn't have a leader and the critics of the movement think that this is something that's bad about it this is what's going to make it fail but if you talk to the people that are there that's what they love about it is that there is no hierarchy here this is a democracy the whole general assembly's everyone's voice is heard but at the same time there are a few faces that have become i guess you could say
11:04 pm
a little more recognizable one of those is a protester named jesse and the way they became recognizable is first because he did a number of interviews with mainstream media outlets where i'd like to say think that he really demolished them so first we're going to show you some good clips of what he said to them and then you can check out the interview that he did with us. the reality is only working class person you're going to see on sunday news political news maybe ever and i think that's very indicative of the failures of our media to report on the news that matter most work we are trying our best to see and i want to thank you unfortunately it's fun to talk to the end of the do especially conservative media that we're such a shill because we find that we can get conversations on the carpet just on your facebook page to support the show which you already please but we can certainly hear this question like you know why are the great teachers let's work for the thirty years ahead of our living standards decrease well that's what percent better
11:05 pm
than i think it's time for maybe i'm losing participation in our democracy that isn't funded by news cameras just the same. how do you get and so this point basically what happened is the fox news interview then didn't air the interview somehow it ended up on the internet and you're like the most famous guy that never got aired out of the veil. it's that i got like not the raw materials back in my apartment it's not like paying off the set but you know that's not the point it's everybody here it's our futures it's our jobs our homes our health care education so if i'm in a position where i can really fight for what i believe in life and that is my friends and that's who we are at this point you know it's interesting is he really happy one of the better known face that is at this minute this might lead to cancer the media and everything to say to me the media ignored the movement now there are kind of cameras here but you are on the sunday morning talk show and you said i'm probably the only working class person you're ever going to see on a sunday talk show do you still think of that serial absolutely i mean the wall
11:06 pm
street journal wrote a really tacky where they didn't mention how i got on a.b.c. by exactly fox news and news corp but they do call me a disney animate slotting version of a revolutionary and it's funny because they i guess kind of got lee's you said he was on the disney own channel he must be a cartoon character then they went to his. spouse of the working class backgrounds of the members of the panel and i'd just like to say on behalf of them they're not sleeping in this park they're not losing their health insurance they're not worried about their families losing their homes losing their jobs not be able for education so with all respect to these the battle of the a.b.c. this week from last week i want to bad mouth them but as for the hack down of news corp oh yeah he's the kind of guy who likes to see democrats are racist because they feel that black people as opposed to calling them and he's like the republican party like. are you revolutionary i would like to think that i'm a reformer at heart i mean you know dr martin luther king jr turned this sort of movement a revolution dr cornel west told us not to be afraid to use that word and i feel
11:07 pm
that you know the hardest thing is we're just asking the quorum to stop that's a big thing you know they're really trying to repeal the twentieth century i don't think it's revolutionary to stand for what we fought for twenty years ago four years ago six years ago and say no you're not going to steal this too so if that's you know class warfare in their ears then sign me up you know it's ok tell me exactly what it is you think this crime is right you could say that it's the crime that was three committed in terms of taking our economy and it never being held accountable but it's not just wall street even though in the back by lottery and never run off and i'm going to i mean you have what i would call you know the political economic complex one hand washes the other the private sector hires the politicians they want when they're in office they do their bidding and then they're guaranteed a job in this section of the economy that they have oversight over once they leave office so to me it's all legalized bribery system but my point of view is that it's the a private industries that bribe the politicians so the private industries are at the
11:08 pm
top of the apex of the corruption and when you look at lake specific a soprano that's i.e.d. wrote a great piece about whether the f.c.c. is covering up crimes for wall street and i would have used the same title without the question mark i really respect that i think you did not see any heat but when the f.c.c. starts investigating one of these crimes then goldman sachs lloyd hired the in. then they take. the initial motion to investigate they just destroy the documents and that's illegal so my opinion it's not only corporate crime it's corporate capture of our government and if we really believe in democracy we can allow b.p. to buy that in the government and just as responsible for you know the actors in the government for allowing themselves to be corrupted and to be bribed it is i told you agree i think we need teacher in the finance reform i think we need a major restructuring of just our political system i also think at the same time that i don't want to deflect away from the real culprit here which is wall street you know it's almost like if you got paid by someone to rob a bank who is guilty or the person who actually rather take their first debate in
11:09 pm
the do it i think they're both guilty and i really don't want to deflect away from that who i think is the real actor in this major financial institutions ok so i'm just wondering to you know i've spoken to tea partiers and i've said you guys have the same message at the beginning here and so what went wrong but they went down the political route and they're saying that this is how this movement should go to but others say no the entire system needs to be reformed so you still think that by voting by passing legislation maybe repealing you know passing that meant for the constitution to get rid of the supreme court citizens united ruling that can still function you don't need a complete i think you know i think you need from both angles because let's be honest let's say you're going to start a third party you're talking it's one of your movement or whichever party you split there is going to be in the wilderness like do we really want twenty years of republican controlled congress no way so i think you need both mechanisms the thing with the tea party was their agenda was to elect republicans their agenda was to revamp republican party from their soiled name under george w.
11:10 pm
bush and these sticks either because the media just pretended they didn't know what was happening that is different to not buy wall street and the tea party is occupy wall street is about changing the future about making the future better the tea party was about going backwards into a pass where there is no civil rights the labor rights no government at all so i think the two are diametrically. pose but that's the fault of part of the other ninety nine percent if you know these people i'm sure that they had trouble in one unemployment i can imagine what they think when their politicians tell them oh you must be lazy you know i'm sure there are tea partiers who don't have health insurance or danger much for their health insurance and i only wonder how they rationalize voting against a reform bill that thinks self-interest i mean let's look at this if they honestly think that the government has no role in creating jobs or governing the economy how do they dare have an opinion on it but at the same time they think and that the the latest keep party members and i knew that all these occupy wall street people want cheri they think that wall street is a wrap of the bailouts when it happened they just want bigger gigantic government
11:11 pm
is that true so you just want a government that works very hard i say then i want a good government one that functions properly and the right wing wants a credible government that can just be steamrolled by wall street so to me that's you've already it's just been doing all of the legwork for wall street i mean they've really been very very good to them and it says to me everything that this movement wants to push for a better direct citizens democracy where the tea party was a letter about electing house republicans who would vote against abortion and block obama's jobs bill i mean the senate minority leader mitch mcconnell he's said my number one priority is to end the obama presidency it should have been jobs right i mean how comparable is that with all the hysteria even their own hysteria about the deficit they still admit their number one goal is to sabotage the present united states how is that possibly a good service to america if anything when nine eleven happened we all said all we have to support bush you know i didn't vote for bush but i supported him at that moment in history because it was about america why is this not
11:12 pm
a similar moment in history where we're facing this massive crisis and these guys just can't get over the partisan nonsense they can't get over the petty bickering and it's not helping i really think it's hurting us if their plan was to filibuster the entire obama presidency so they can blame all bush's disaster on him there and they've been doing a heck of a job. brownie you know but at the same time you know how do you feel about obama would you vote for obama in two thousand and twelve and i don't know if the occupy wall street movement dies down ever and camped out for a couple months and it goes away you know at my big plate right now with democrats on the many things is that they're lending us our support and i appreciate that but i don't need to platitudes i don't need nice words i need action i need them to actually take wall street on see what they're doing right now is saying we support by wall street but they're not see the about what the prime seeking places will see that it's all about oversight for indictments i need my pin you can write towards these guys under rico it really is a very connected intricate web of lies that they've spread so to the democrats out
11:13 pm
there i'd just like to send a message that you will not co-opt as if you really want to show us some support about being leaders yourselves but until then because our government has seized the function we've created one of our own and to me this isn't about capitalism i'm not against capitalism i'm against crime i only wish the democratic party was against it as much as i am maybe then i'd feel stronger exporting ok so we're talking about one certain type of crime is going on punish right of the family coming from law street how do you juxtapose that with clever see here i mean there have been mass arrests right seven are people arrested on the present bridge there are a number of arrests today for people jumping over a barricade standing in the middle of the street. i mean when it comes to present obama his cabinet positions have just been in the pocket of wall street his policies have been much more conservative than i would care for and it really kind of blows my mind you know we've seen the results of these failed conservative policies under bush why does the think that the c policies under obama would yield anything other than the sea of failed results you know yeah but obama isn't
11:14 pm
responsible for the cops that are down there and they're doing their jobs but we need to think about just you know the daily it being the bad that our country focuses on it would you say that line order that justice actually get here i see that you know it's kind of like the ninety nine percent versus one percent i think there are a lot of cops are good guys i've got some my best friends. when i was speakers all around let me right now so i really have a hard time saying anything derogatory about and what i would say that if we value our second amendment and tenth amendment rights then we should pay close attention to the rights of freedom of assembly because i didn't see anything in the constitution saying you can only assemble until eleven pm or if the park is clean the or anything alone that nonsense i think that's very extra constitutional so when it comes to civil liberties yep it's because you know especially since they see that we are turning into a more a closed society i want to hold inside you know i want to over the side with all that freedom and liberty and you bet to god you know also that stuff that they will hear in the media but i don't see that it seems like the same people who go on
11:15 pm
about also bet you dodge and they don't really care about spying on citizens cell phones will be maybe a score of is kuantan m o miss it offenses against civil liberties and i think if you're really a constitutional patriot then you can't just be you know buff a style cost yourself each can take the parts you like be the parts you don't like it's the whole thing or nothing you know i get him i think it's an experience that you very much i appreciate. all right we're taking a quick break but there is a lot more where that came from as we continue our entire show that dedicated to occupy wall street now and might be in here right here in new york where occupy wall street began but we know it's spreading across the country so we're going to speak to some other occupiers in d.c. and los angeles and britain have a special guest today that house. all
11:16 pm
right now like i said new york city might be the epicenter where the humble beginnings of the occupy wall street movement began but as you know it's spread across the country around the world even but we sent our producers where we could in d.c. and in los angeles to get some messages from the occupiers there and then later on the show we're also going to bring them to occupiers here in new york take a look. this is history in the making as far as i'm concerned the idea that there are people starving in america is unconscionable the fact that people are starving around the world is unimaginable but here where people have such wealth. it it doesn't make any sense and we all know this and it needs to change you guys so much
11:17 pm
money that is unnecessary that you are doing with you are just buying more housing buying more material that you just don't need millions of americans have been pushed into poverty and homelessness there are tent cities in central california that i cannot believe exist in my own country you know just open your eyes and take a look it's only going to get worse all they hear occupy d.c. because money runs everything in america we have the rule by the rich and what we need is the rule by the people people should have seen that you know as soon as you get private banks teaming up with big corporations that it's the ninety nine percent of the people that you know wind up being pushed to the bottom and that's exactly what happened and you know people actually did something there's an opportunity now to not be silent and complicit with. don't agree with we want good jobs back in our communities we want corporations to be held accountable by paying their fair share paying taxes and invest in our community
11:18 pm
what i'd like to see is that the occupation movement gains legitimacy as able to rebuild institutions the way we want them to be and slowly make the government irrelevant i think we're going to win i think it's going to change i think we're going to embarrass the people who are busy in lear jets sailing yachts while people are living in the street. cars ok and maybe someday they will give in to we are doing and help us out there's a spare an american now that has a sense that maybe the people can actually make something happen and i don't think that americans had that spirit for a very long time the five hundred thirty five men and one of. congress there are no they've got their finger to the wind and the more wind we give them the more the pattern will start to shift the cowards will become less cowardly and the brave ones will become more bold inside capitol hill. all right so the way that we first found out about wall street is that people started sending us messages on twitter
11:19 pm
sending us messages on facebook they literally started blowing us up about it so you can't deny here that social media that technology played a very important role in getting the word out and i guess you compare that to to the arab spring to the protests we've seen rise up around the world and who better to talk to us about that than david house someone who's been a frequent guest on our show. so david i think a lot of people know you because you're a hiker because you're a friend of bradley manning and your supporter of bradley manning is out here with wiki leaks but what are you doing here well i came down to the occupy wall street protest after seeing occupied one that wasn't going to last and the energy to occupy london is much like it or here it's a bunch of students think of all the workers who have come together because they're very upset about the state of there and they've had some criticism the media what are their demands what they really want if you come down to the park you get the sense that everyone from the present economic condition. world was so it's very
11:20 pm
interesting i could actually talk to her terror is so troubling to republicans the democrats and to get their ideas about why she fixed the problem but i came to be part of a process to help what i feel is the public a very popular movement the same kind of feel like when you walk around here it speaks to the experience republicans and the democrats everybody all walks of life it hasn't seen a lot of really has hasn't he really only you know left wing and just a lot of young people slots right well it's important to note that the media that paints this movement as an artist or whatever. certain the obligations i would say to the principals the people who are opposing the economic condition of this country is all these be very bad it's an economic condition it's called to be dipping percent unemployment among americans has kept students from receiving good loans and if they have to work very hard to get a job at
11:21 pm
a school that has kept waivers out of union things that are out of this situation which many people are very upset about and obviously the news media has been somewhat bad with these major corporations fox news a missing p.c.c. and it so of course they're going to pay just protests as a marginal like to be when we come down here it's not be the american citizens these are people that believe red white and blue and they're here. to find answers to the world's problems to deal with drug problems that medicine because you don't do a lot about rights i was for someone like you to come down here and see this people you see you know a lot of people that are all time activists that this is what they look at the even more you know how do they compare to the young in the middle of that maybe right now just feel like their disadvantage is the ninety five percent they can't get a job and they want to opt out just right it's not right what you don't see you know i've been seeing a lot of full time outfits i would say here but people like mater people who just walk away from the streets of new york and say what's going on they grab a lawyer and then they come back they've left occupiers their kitchen or use their
11:22 pm
shower or you spoke to the library this is a very community led operation and that's why it's very bizarre that you hear these talking points for going back to rush limbaugh these people are somehow professional lock to this they're trying to call some kind of markings on the ship it's bizarre to hear that and into look at new yorkers laborers people come up and give them food and say thank you for doing this organization occupy wall street has raised over one hundred fifty thousand dollars to three weeks been here for you and you got to rush to walk me through that with your community but i have heard that supported by the people of the city the people of this nation now are seeing this spread not only across the country you know it's a it's already outside of new york it's most major cities but impossible to forget you but it's also spreading around the world more than seventy countries are having this october fifteenth and i think that's a really interesting development because originally before i thought i was really good that's not that's never was asking where's america's starwars where right when
11:23 pm
are we going to have our american spring and so we were sort of playing off what was going on in the middle east and so now how do you see that dynamic change or is this still a continuation of what the arab spring started it's only you know passing through the u.s. continues on around the world or is occupy wall street now influencing others and that's a very good question because i think it is related to the technology of the internet to be about about a possible. the internet really does the basic it allows you and i do communicate in ways that we may not have been able to communicate and for all to collectivize around certain ideas that what the people who are strong will get all those ideas to go out and i'm going to consider waiting for those idea of what the internet daws it really creates a marketplace of ideas which is what democracy should be all the time so by kind of degradative the traditional old media control over talking points and information by making pundits are relevant they can in new york times the role that putting information democratization the heads of the people what you get is a movement like this a true democracy that is spread by technology so yes this is hard to hear square
11:24 pm
and to hear square is big out from the internet it's completely amazing technology now is driving this movement and that's really the fuel for topping right here on my wall street who do you think really fits into this system that where they actually have access to technology right because of course there's still a lot of people in the world there's a lot of injustice poverty whatever you want to call it where they barely have a dollar a day to live on or access to water or any good let alone a cell phone. right now there's a huge digital divide especially the trip we saw all the protesters were organizing to use cell phone pickets water once those ideas had spread people still had to go into the community to do trinity work to rile up the people that didn't have access to the internet to say these i did sort of get the word but what was interesting is that about thirteen you would get in trouble we're able to work together all why we come up with the best ideas the ones that would appeal to the masses the pose and then go out there and spread that message and it took over it took over so we're
11:25 pm
seeing the same thing here occupy wall street is a democratic process where people have gathered together along and visit in order to find out what solutions we can offer once we find out solutions it's not certain that we're going to go in the community and spread this idea and we don't think that's what it's about it's not about people who are beating people about leading an idea now when you read stuff. it's a player role played a role in the arab spring revolutions stopped to hear anything that wiki leaks playing a role i mean of course that we see that. afghanistan where lots of rock or a lot of the south a lot of practice is state department cables they are not the banks that i. know the big the most ever came to say they're right behind us is that we could be strong and people passed by that we could be struck which is an art installation here the kind of showcase when you meet and they always have a comment like oh i want to truly would you consider going to gauge the boy conversation and you learn that most everyone here has heard that we can experience
11:26 pm
a tree and if you were to go through what it's a do we live in a post wiki leaks world they would say they'd say definitely so it seems like we can meet as somehow was stowed some dignity back upon the people by really showing that we are in our world through the use of technology no longer we're just in the street just screaming into the void streaming across buildings but when we go along we can use our information resources to accomplish great be trucked to trial and state authority in a real meaningful way that's what we could be showed us and that's their legacy right now and that's their legacy my wife and i do think that's likely to continue on with the big stuff because of course everything is very nice out there there are a lot of places to write it seems going to be supporting the science more of the states definitely so when we do this and showed us it's not such it is the currency on capitol hill has been true and that deception flows from wall street itself we can it's like disappears related just to say it's really the same principles that
11:27 pm
people have as it is to do stories about people being killed overseas or being tortured nothing on the stuff whatever happens if you leave aside whatever happens that would you meet that they've lit a fire and that five rebel sweeping across it is to sweep across the world and i believe in the form of occupy wall street is their legacy yeah stuff it would be if we didn't think what you think about legacy now i decide it's a sad. i think that's about all three and i was like ok you know. what you did i'm bringing up what's your idea say where the skinny guy actually takes the system i think that's what we know also as a nation is accountability and now we have a peters that we can go to and say listen you've been incompetent or you bit more old they kick them out of office we really have no basis in society for touching each other or judging our peers when i walk down the street and i see you are walking down the street i feel like i'm an american if you're an american i'm related if our leaders are on the same walls that we're in there because we're
11:28 pm
balance by that system those are our principles and our values and what our leader is george bush you about were sacrifices that for they say the constitution doesn't apply if you're not believe they undercut the democratic process and so what this is about is restoring values back to america how you community come back together and say want to our principles are poor principles they've got to go back to reason lightman their ideals what's that not believe that what i did a lot that's what i did what i bring to the table i think values it's very important that's what we did occupy wall street that's what we need this country now lastly i think it is at this interview with us and we thank you for taking the time to get on a bus and go back to boston and join our my boston where you say you're going for the winter and they camped out are you going to be very much friends that are in the snow and everything as much as possible to to live in boston on some cold winters and one of the biggest problems that is how to keep people warm during the occupation during this whole time so i'd heard everyone watching this interview please don't take stock of my wall street off my boston for ideas about how to get
11:29 pm
people warm warm weather or just somebody pass through to go and buy bigger tents and or sleeping dogs or people the reason this is so effective and because we're speaking with our feet it's like if you're square we're saying we're persistent and we will last through the winter because we care that much that we need warm weather clothing and we need support from our citizens to do this so i'll be off to five boston i'll be sitting out there every night i'm able and the horse. for people able to give them more time i'll be able to spend out there in the square with people occupying the city. thank you so much for joining us thanks for having me. i guess there is a lot more coming up so you won't want to miss a. historic old. friendly. dynamic. do
