resulting no to the culture of corporate control reverberates across the globe hundreds of cities joined the occupy movement. also reporting the town r.t. syria divided the summer months long revolt sees the regime's supporting capital ready to wait for reforms while cities outside damascus want the president. plus ukraine's attempts to spruce up its image ahead of its hosting of the euro twenty twelve football championships come under fire from animal rights groups cusick government and burning stray dogs alive the top stories this hour.
3:01 pm
around the clock around the world this is r.t. live here in moscow good to have you with us this hour and i cry against corporate greed has risen up in almost a thousand cities as the protests that started in new york global people have taken their anger to the streets of europe asia and australia saying their governments have been taken over by big business well let's first focus on europe and talk to our correspondent daniel bushell he is in brussels now daniel much of europe saying it has been named the political center of the e.u. where you are of course there in brussels but are the politicians listening. initially. here. that there was no running water for them.
3:02 pm
the weight of numbers and the protesters here plan to set up an old boy scout creating an alternative poll image which serves the people not the financial elite they're protesting that governments keep rescuing failed troy's banks with public money the latest outrage is one of belgium's biggest lender stakes here which has actually been bailed out by the government a systematic cost of five thousand euro per taxpayer although all the meanwhile the c.e.o. of the bank received was promised to six hundred thousand euros codice last to last year. taking the bank basically on the brink of its collapse no thanks his headquarters here in brussels i think we can see some pictures of the activists who broke windows today sprayed slogans they vandalized the building the headquarters of texeira several activists were in fact arrested we can now hear from some of those protesters. politician should speak for the people and not for the
3:03 pm
bankers i think if you just if we can start there you should be really good beginning of something else to. be telling the prince if we. meet again to see that i'm just. fine. and. mysterious that. people actually see the funds could be. arranged. was a very loud demonstration it's a very hard to hear yourself above the sheltering and cheering protesting against. irresponsible governments and the numbers here keep growing through the noise bring you the latest through the noise daniel thanks very much indeed for that that's the new bush will there live in brussels now we turn to madrid where cells of people have gathered in the spanish capital you know. one of the protesters there
3:04 pm
saying. well bill at this point the protesters are continuing to do what they were doing for the last several hours and that is they're very loudly expressing gains of nation with the government spain has just been downgraded by standard force from eight to double a minus. rating so so really people here have had a lot of things to talk about to their governments the jobless rate the rate is the highest in the eurozone i in fact is the highest among the youngest people share so really the at the at the spanish population the twenty age twenty four to thirty five are the people who are left without jobs and they have been protesting since the middle of may so they really have gotten a really good hangover of their way of organizing things they have been dancing they have been singing i think the it's mere fact the protest in madrid have been carrying on a sort of a festive mood as a matter of fact there have been so foreign says put on they're actually singing
3:05 pm
right now but here's an interesting thing. the protesters in the heart of the spanish capital have decided to us take us to include not just the issues of their home country in their protests we have seen a lot of banners are calling on for the e.u. and nato to abandon their action in libya there how we have seen a lot of palestinian flags we have seen some posters we say that palestine and libya are also being a are falling victim to the capital. ideals so really people here are starting to broaden this off their concerns and it does not look like they're going to go home any time soon because at this point the protests the protests are very peaceful ah there is some police presence but they're merely here at this point to observe although the protests were dispersed several months ago does not look like that is going to be repeated this time around so we're in for an interesting and a very vigorous and well i have to say this is a festive night for
3:06 pm
a lot of protesters here because i think one speech seemed to approach these this movement with their hearts and minds really into it thanks very much indeed really in a condition of that life in madrid and also daniel bushell in brussels. dozens of demonstrators have been injured in rome as italian police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds protesters smash up windows torch calls and hold bottles as the demo against corporate greed and austerity measures turned violent for more on the situation india turning capital i'm now joined by moritz you're pretty healthy he's a journalist and presenter thanks very much indeed for being us being with us now. in a very different situation to what we just heard about in madrid where quite a festive atmosphere and indeed also in london so tell us just how bad is the situation now are things getting out of control. this mission now is very controlled actually there were two demonstration one huge demonstration one hundred
3:07 pm
thousand people. exactly the same liking my treated. people with no future but educated people with a. university degree who is not only no chance and that was the majority of the people then there was another demonstration. of the so-called black blocks they were in the beginning of the demonstration and they started to attack police and police are very miserly because they used to. smoke but no really maybe water cannons nights the could practically the reaction of the police was. not that not exaggerated yet the people that drive on the people of the. huge demonstration and proceed to illustration that were behind them so now we everybody is talking about the violence in the room
3:08 pm
of course but it was not they mean meaning of the meaning of that we will do you illustration by people and that also was the reaction of the people the for instance the head of bank italia drag the future head of the cia. people will write which rich people know the black bloc so the one i like fifty thousand people that were demonstrating in rome well actually just watching you actually looking at the images there it certainly does look like a very violent situation there in rome very different to what we've seen elsewhere of course there has been violence in new york but is there not a danger though that this whole movement could be hijacked by an occasion. well they try to do that they try exactly to i jack in the demonstration but of course in the media. this marquee there were the fiery and now
3:09 pm
the media mess that is the ana she in rome about is not so and also doesn't make any sense because to attack the police is completely meaningless to the real problem that they were screaming in all the demonstration was a known money to bank and money to people money to street no money to bank that was a message screamed the police is in that one situation of the student because in some city they don't even have a gas to go to patch will they have to wait to be cool and they just move in with the car only when they're on the cool because they have no gas in this iteration of the police is a really bad is all the people in need and so the police is not the enemy manager will these protesters be listened to that's the question. well. actually the people that are. attacking police were very young
3:10 pm
people not even university people they were really like teenagers in the course they were. doing to attack. but just briefly that was originally and finally i mean they want to have an impact on governments and of course the corporate world that seems to be the essence of all of this do you think there really is a feeling that they could achieve that there in rome just briefly. very briefly no i don't think. ok we'll leave it there thank you very much money journalist and presenter joining us live in rome well london is one of the main centers of saturday's occupy together action and artie's our ben has been following events all day there and brings us the latest. well there was
3:11 pm
a worry that tempers could boil over a little bit earlier as police introduced a very strict cordon places were not allowed into the protests no with the allowed to exit and a few arrests were made and at least three were made those that's according to the police twitter feed but since then the cordon has been relaxed and the feeling amongst the protesters in the square behind me behind those police vans is quite buoyant actually it's almost a carnival atmosphere people are chanting they're playing drums and singing and dancing even as well at the moment some news reports are saying is up to three thousand protesters there is difficult but a number it's certainly a thousand that gathered on the steps of the one of the st paul's cathedral very nearby to the london stock exchange now they're angry that their money taxpayers' money is continuing to be spent to fail banks they're angry that the people in charge of those banks who they see as the architects architects of the economic crisis are being rewarded with bonuses and they're angry that the the way the country is being run and and the phrases continuously being used today is that we
3:12 pm
are the ninety nine percent what that refers to is that they're the majority who make up this country yet that they do not have a say in how the countries run so they're saying it's now time to take back some can now i'm joined now to talk more about this party matthews who is a prominent anti cuts campaign team thanks very much for speaking to r.t. now first of all what prompted this process and how's it organized well as tom silva see by occupy wall street and the other occupations that we've seen in america and across the world and over see previous anger that's been expressed by students and to cause activists so that was the beginning the real emotional basis of their what is it exactly the you want and how are you going to figure that out i think you're right to say that it's a mixture of things we both want the politics to change so that's the way to ask there's a run so we need to facilitate a space whereby the ninety nine percent can be heard we need to increase participation so the whole point of the demonstration is to make people feel empowered feel that they can have a say in the. way decisions are made that's
3:13 pm
a basic fundamental right and need in society today and that's why we're starting with our process here clearly then once you've established that process and it's repeated hopefully as many places across the world in our own country then you'll start to see the policy changes we really require and also supported by the mass of people that means massive reforms to the banking system and to the cuts program and . democratic reforms in this country to matthew thanks very much for speaking to r.t. . so just going to hear people hear you soon realize that people really do think they're going to effect some sort of change are they really digging their heels in people i've spoken to they set up tents they brought stoves they even brought their kids here they're really prepared to go to whatever measures that takes to to effect that change. ok wall street movement started with a twenty group of activists camping outside the new york stock exchange in september people were protesting against caps pocketing bonuses while american
3:14 pm
taxpayers were struggling to make ends meet. since then the situation is extremely crowded stand here in our where the occupy movement was born four weeks i'll tell you this is the largest that i have ever seen a. room to stand in this park right now protesters have been camped out for weeks raising awareness of what they say are corporate greed greed for influence politics but there are probably about. two thousand people here but this is not the only place in new york city where. protesters are gathering mile away in the washington square park crowd of about a thousand people have gathered to gather. to reinforce. the occupied move there was also a march that was seeking police a few hours ago people walking to chase bank with the drawing bank accounts
3:15 pm
withdrawing their money and. all of this of course is leading up to a convergence that is planning to take place in times square thousands of people possibly tens of thousands of people are expected to show up so far as i mentioned think how can these. large police presence get it around all over the city here and on wall street and all over all good so far we are not hearing any reports or see any reports of conflicts the chance so to speak with some of those that have turned day here's a little bit of what they have to say. people are still struggling here. there's people who can't even. work. and i feel like that's a problem. everything is split. and
3:16 pm
i'm not the only person there's all these people here that feel the same exact way that's just a little bit of white thousands of people are talking about the streets they also. say they approach journalists and say the richest people in the. bottom of the population living in the u.s. and that's what this group is focusing on take you to see that disparity between the rich and more till there's a feeling of victory among this crowd because they feel this occupation global but there's also a. feeling of frustration because they are frustrated. officials are leading this. global movement. he's a sociology professor at. the protests thanks very much for being with us here on
3:17 pm
r.t. well as we've heard the protests in new york peaceful so far but there is still a huge police presence in the city you've obviously been taking in these protests sense that they could be the potential for future trouble. there is certainly a potential that you know every time we've had a large gathering there has been some pretty precipitous police activity just to update what your correspondent said earlier several dozen people were arrested at the chase at one branch of chase bank just within the last hour or two these were people who had accounts with cheese bank were trying to close those accounts and the police went in and arrested them for requesting to do so the police here seem to be on able to distinguish between what is essentially a key school if disruptive or disorderly march and are gathering that is truly gauge and destructive activity like we've seen in some other cases so there's been
3:18 pm
a kind of consistent overreaction by the police here that has really criminalized dissent in some ways and it's not be so sure about the nature of these protests it seems that many people on actually demanding the same thing and there seems to be a number of issues that people are talking about not a lot of coherence in this protest has begun that they're morons it could actually detract from the final goal than actually maybe it won't achieve what people really want because of it's slightly disjointed nature but i think we have to think about this as a movement rather than a particular action or particular organization and i think we are seeing some were specific demands come out of particular actions here in new york city this week there were some specific demands put forward by some of the demonstrations including continuing attacks on millionaires that the democratic governor wants to get rid of you want to give a tax break to millionaires in the face of layoffs of school employees etc so
3:19 pm
that's an example of the kind of concrete demands that are starting to emerge i think the a war work is going to happen on this as more people and organized groups join this movement we'll see more articulation of these to me talking about also. another phrase initiating global change now in what way do you think governments and big business should be responding to this or will a to simply ignore it and hope it all goes away well what's interesting from the new york perspective today is you know the extent of the global connectivity a protest the biggest day of collective protest activity since february two thousand and three when people were protesting the iraq war and i think in many ways the u.s. is kind of late to the game that we've seen these demonstrations against austerity against corruption against concentrated economic and political power around the world and so what's important is not so much the specific demands but the fact that
3:20 pm
there is a now a connected and word unaided global movement that's calling attention to what i think is pretty transparent everyone just kind of the rocky relationship between economic and political elites are out to just very briefly if you talk about broad movement global movement you're a sociologist could this perhaps be the dawn of something new in society developing just briefly but i just think that we've seen a new level of anti austerity activism and i think there are going to be significant reforms and restrictions on your liberal free trade policies as a result thank you very much indeed alex methodical process of sociology at brooklyn college in new york thank you tom. well as the occupy movement goes global let's try and track what's going on where at the moment people in almost one hundred countries from asia in the americas to africa europe united in protest in berlin police clashed with protesters after they tried to break through security barriers surrounding the parliament they pull fences away as police try to restore order crowds in athens rage against the bankers finances and politicians make use
3:21 pm
of ruining their economy and condemning millions to poverty and on chip protesters have also taken to the streets of tokyo decrying big business and income inequality is what is directing their anger at nuclear power companies taiwan's capital taipei also played host to an occupy movement many rallied outside the city's financial turmoil which they view as a symbol of corporate excess. both throughout the day our correspondents in europe and the u.s. has huge of seymour we bring you the latest on the occupy together rally stay with r.t. for our special live coverage. sponsored by growing poverty of different. countries waging florida as well putting jobs and social spending people across the globe rise up against their government's economic policies follow the worldwide actions against austerity like clockwork three. told the news this hour after

seven months of anti regime demonstrations and over three thousand killed in crackdowns the un has warned that syria is heading for a full blown civil war and with rumors of army defectors joining the opposition the gap between the two sides in the conflict appears to be widening the parties to the center reports while people in the capital calling for dialogue other parts of the country are demanding an end to the rule of president assad. well here in the center of the syrian capital it is very quiet today it's a day off for most people but of course beneath that calmness the conflict in the country goes on between the government and its supporters and the opposition and now what it one thing is clear though when we try to approach people here and bring up the issue of the cost it almost always turns into a heated debate a very emotional discussion depending on the stand that they take the shit that means i see that there are a poor man's not all positions we don't know who they are yet syria's undershirt frustrations but we will not give up. in the hope that will cause the opposition comes down be rational and go into dialogue with the regime i was the government
3:23 pm
position and the more open minded. again we are to mask the opinion we hear most here is that people are asking who is the opposition who is causing this instability and many of them bring up the words armed gangs they think that gays are just people who want to destabilize the country of course this is a position that the government had taken from the very beginning of the conflict but it is a different story when you go outside of the capital we went to the city of other stuff on it was inside the five days of fighting between security forces and anti-government protesters and we felt the tension there there was a lot of armed forces according to of course again the government they said that they were fighting against armed groups were trying to create trouble for the locals there that according to some activists so they are saying that these are not armed groups that piecework peaceful protesters as well as army defectors with a strong army of affecting the factor contingent in all just on it's very difficult to verify the exactly what happened in the city because people are very hesitant to

talk to get a result lot of military the army still in that city of but that is what's happening on the ground it's not very clear it's hard to get the truth on each matter but on a political level though president bashar al assad has said that he will set up a constitutional committee within the next couple of days to debate with the opposition various sides of the opposition. constitutional reform. the dialogue should have a program and a timeline we must clearly understand what kind of results we want to achieve now one of the sticking points of the constitutional reform is article eight which they said the ruling baath party is the leader of the state and the opposition says that this no matter even if a multi-party system is introduced without repealing this article it won't change anything but again that depends on the dialogue that both sides are going to have to take in full size pro and anti government sides always say at the end of the day it's not what is said it's a series of both sides in doing what they say it will do so it's down to the action

the animal protection societies because that initial locals believe that the dogs are still alive but we don't have any evidence of what poison is used to kill them so we cannot say for sure that the only official way regulating the number of these animals is to sterilize rather than to kill them and we will stop demanding this happens in europe over the past few decades stray animals practically disappeared in. the enema lovers outcry had a massive response on the internet and online petition was signed by almost two hundred thousand people some of them suggesting you were twenty twelve should not be held in a country that is so cool to its creatures that have people who demand you cancel your two thousand and twelve is not unexpected as a rule letters from citizens don't work back in two thousand and ten hon defenders addressed officials and used to plot you need then as deputy prime minister kalashnikov. to stop this outrage against animals it's been
