forces there were several standoff between protesters and police i saw several protesters sitting peacefully on the grounds of the n.y.p.d. officers took them a couple of them pushed them down onto the ground face down very violently and tracked them away tapping back and now we are hearing reports of a total of about seventy protesters arrested here today on the scene of the nationwide international and occupy wall street protest now things have calmed down since but it was quite tense standoff between police and protesters at one point they were saying if you don't leave you will risk arrest for there is no place to leave because they corralled off the section at one point we saw protesters receiving the first amendments to the police officers here still very tense situation the police had essentially pushed many people aside into one corner were prevented from moving any place and couldn't join with a larger march it's unclear why it beat police department responded so aggressively to what essentially has been a continuation of peaceful protests here but we'll continue to cover this for you.

a nonviolent way but of course the police presence that is turning out in times square is clearly creating a very tense environment and he's miniport reporting for us there in new york and earlier we spoke with alex the tall who is a sociology professor at brooklyn college in new york he's also taken part in the demonstrations and says the protesters are becoming more coordinated. well i think we have to think about this as a broad movement rather than a particular action or particular organization and i think we are seeing some more specific demands coming out of particular actions here in new york city this week there were some specific demands put forward by some of the demonstrations including continuing attacks on millionaires and i think in many ways the u.s. is kind of late to the game that we've seen these demonstrations against austerity against corruption against concentrated economic and political power around the world and so what's important is not so much the specific demands but the fact that
