2:02 pm
arrested in chicago because of this latest display that bring us up to date if you will or what you know. either we know that about a hundred and seventy five occupy wall street protesters were in fact arrested in chicago there was also scores of arrests in arizona in denver and of course new york chicago situation was very similar to what we saw what i describe in a moment of what happened to me york there were there was a bunch of protesters about a five hundred perhaps in one of the parks they are camped out the police officer said they had to get their tags alex by a certain time eleven pm they had not done so and a police officer storm day and cutting down tense and arresting people left and right essentially what we witnessed in new york was extremely extremely disturbing the mass convergence the rally in times square where we were essentially corralled for hours there was a total of about ninety protesters who were arrested by police officers yesterday
2:03 pm
evening peaceful protesters we saw police on horseback sort of plow into the crowd scaring people stomping on some protesters there were several police officers on scooters that had run over protesters well we saw instances of protesters beaten with police by the police look at times i personally witnessed at least two or arrests in times square total of seven arrests in times square in fact most of those peaceful protesters who were sitting down who were taken by the police and slammed down face first onto the ground and violently dragged away without right police counterterrorism police officers really disturbing stuff later on in this is that we hadn't actually had a chance to discuss yesterday evening later on a large group of about a thousand thousand five hundred protesters gathered in a different park in downtown new york called washington square park near new york university town there and they were debating whether or not to occupy that park as well and that a group made a general decision. not to do so but several individuals about two dozen or so
2:04 pm
decided to stay back to say state their grounds to try to occupy that space because really thousands of protesters were turned out at zuccotti park simply there's no room for them there's no room for them to camp out anymore and so we start was unprecedented display of course by the new york city police department in washington square park just to drive those two dozen or so protesters out with the entire park surrounded by riot police have rolled out several school buses n.y.p.d. school buses presumably to fill with people that they would arrest. all journalists out of the park pardon me i was trying to film with several other journalists who were standing next to me we were clearly marked as press ahead make record and say i started i was a press press reporter and they had shown these strange a tactical strobe lights really powerful strobe lights into our cameras and our eyes were prevented from seeing and getting any clearer images as they were making
2:05 pm
the arrests of the protesters there very unprecedented same type of behavior by the police and again it was actually the first time in my personal experience here on the ground in new york i didn't feel comfortable but i didn't really feel safe as a reporter. were you telling your. new york thanks very much and of course these arms the greed of not just to cause trouble in america a lot of allegedly granderson elsewhere as well so predicts even more violence on the streets of american cities too as marches spread from coast to coast. there is going to be some kind of martyrdom in the near future we are going to see violence in iraq we can already look we already have the violence in this country with the police force wearing protestors with you know innocent teenage women and being you know but turned you know on here oh this is what the alternative media showcasing right now i mean this is a revolution this is this is a change in psychology this is an evolution in human projects and it's the people
2:06 pm
are waking up and we're demanding change this is no different from what we saw overseas in the middle east and northern africa the revolution has now come to the united states of america but what started as a side wall street's now spread worldwide this weekend galvanized into action one of the largest collective movements of its kind tens of thousands of spilled on the city streets across the world and the greek protests already taken hold in more than eighty countries with europe becoming one of the main targets of public theory against banks and politicians let's take a look at the pictures from rome first riot police there used to gas and water cannons crowds of protesters smashed bank windows and tossed cars plumes of smoke we're seeing billowing into the sky into the coliseum in other parts of the city and in britain a police source of protesters efforts to set up camp outside the stock exchange in london several hundred activists have called offices for preventing more people from joining the rally and in germany of berlin scuffles broke out in front of the

thursday the struggling a you breathe a sigh of relief as a vacuum one of its smallest members finally voted in favor of the expanded european bailout fund it was the only member still stalling eurozone plans but lawmakers rejected the proposal on choose day in a vote that brought down the country's ruling coalition the upgraded four hundred forty billion euro rescue fund will now be able to offer cheap credit to beleaguered banks and buy increasingly expensive sovereign debt ratio and pay nigel farage told us he believes it's a vacuum was forced to change its mind. you know isn't good enough no is not acceptable in the bottom european union if you say you know your maid to vote again until you get the right answer which gives you a true measure of what this project's really like you must understand that i just peed in this parliamentary chamber with mr barroso these people are absolutely intent on creating a united states of europe and they don't care how many millions of people probably unemployed at strappy they don't care about the tide of human is misery that

because they have got their political goals but the reality is that not only economically is this failing the book politically it's failing what is the point actually of bailing these countries or what are the bailouts all these bailouts helping the people in greece and portugal who they're not what they're actually doing is they giving money to these countries to give back to our banks who over lent the money in the first place i mean the whole thing is what we use country's name who are trapped inside this economic prison. is they need to deal. he without a so look come through this with me kevin owe him an ultimatum for kosovo service nato demands the removal of roh blocks of the disputed border crossing with serbia they were the three got the time to learn if it's got the right to make that kind of request. and israel's foreign minister says israelis and palestinians should be left to sort out their own problems by themselves more on that story later to.
2:10 pm
former ukrainian prime minister yulia timoshenko feels the law was icy grip just two days after being sentenced to seven years behind bars for abuses of power and gas deal she signed with russia a new set of fraud charges has been lined up against a guilty verdict to international anger from russia the e.u. and the united states in the week. judgment day for ukraine's democracy that was how some dubbed events in a key of course this week where former prime minister yulia tymoshenko was awaiting the verdict over her alleged shady dealings in a gas deal with russia who supporters took to the streets in her defense before being dispersed by the police. three months of nonstop protests surrounding the case culminated in the biggest reminder yet of the orange revolution the two thousand and four uprising which made him a shango a household name. now as then there were tens of thousands in the streets and they

could anger and even naked activists this group staging another topless demonstration against all sides in the dispute but the main drama was inside the court especially after the judges country herschel verdict. the court has ruled that the demand of not to mention who is guilty under article three six five hundred three of the criminal code of the crime and sentences her to seven years imprisonment and denies of the right to work and civil service for three years just last year and to my shankar was one of the most influential female politicians in the world but having lost her power and now her liberty to go was furious. with the recount or in regime or its market tell me the trial showed that the constitution and justice had been trampled underfoot i urge you to begin the struggle if you very difficult and important moment we have to protect ukraine against the authoritarian regime don't give up. the prosecution claimed she abused
2:12 pm
power while signing gas deals with russia in two thousand and nine the accusation has raised eyebrows in moscow which insists the contracts were completely legitimate but we cannot accept that a legitimate. contract which remains in force which was never. used. could become the reason. for the good decision. which took place today the e.u. also doubted president viktor yanukovych has assurances that the case had not been politicized and lashed out at ukraine's leadership experts say kiev now finds itself in a very difficult position potential membership here painted in some years away and i think we shouldn't pretend otherwise but we do wants the countries in europe seems to know to get closer here not just in terms of membership but in terms of european values like the rule of justice and this is clearly an extraordinary
2:13 pm
setback and i do think it is quite possible that the invitation for president yanukovych to come here on the twentieth of october will now be withdrawn another criminal case was launched against him a shank or two days after the verdict was announced accusing her of shifting her own to russia's defense ministry on to ukraine's budget fifteen years ago this only added to her image of a martyr a symbol of freedom supported by the masses and few doubt she would hesitate to capitalize on that status even if she has to wait seven years to do so just hours after the simmering tension in central kiev is back to quiet and normal again it is unclear whether unity much sank or say has been sealed as experts are now speculating that a presidential pardon is still a possibility but these protesters here i did tell him to stay here for at least another week in any case let's see russia party reporting from kiev in ukraine.
2:14 pm
those who saw their tempers running high outside called after your guilty verdict was announced not correspond to that. document is everything that happened they was right in the thick of it throughout we've got his pictures online of facebook dot com slash r.t. news we've also got footage of the angry response think you have a new you tube channel for you as well and sings the gas deal drivers all over the news of the moment later in our program tonight as well we find the e.u. regulators were looking for when they raided the european offices of russian energy giant gazprom. different topic next israel and palestine should resolve the conflict by themselves without outside help according to the israeli foreign minister lieberman he says there's no need for mediation for the middle east quartet made up of the u.s. the u.s. e.u. and russia to discuss this further let's talk now to jeff jarrett is a columnist for the jerusalem post jeffrey good evening thanks for being an r.t. international so do you think that these comments by the israeli foreign minister
2:15 pm
will come as a surprise to the members of the quartet. no i don't think the members of the court will be surprised by most things from mr lieberman says mr lieberman is unusual among israeli foreign ministers in the past the foreign ministers who are always those who took a more dovish approach to negotiations with israel. and in this government mr legal money is on the right of his government colleagues and he's been making remarks like this for quite some time so what lies behind this tough stance you say lies on the right is it anything to do is well maybe that israel's feeling under too much pressure from the outside over this issue like its continued program of settlement building in the occupied palestinian land and we're hearing more about that even this week. but i think it's wrong. in this. if it's ever going to be solved will be solved under an international umbrella of
2:16 pm
course with legal minutes right in the ideal situation would be nothing better. to sit down together and reach a peace agreement between the two without the need for international mediation importantly however history shows that this isn't going to be the case and in fact one of israel has made a peace agreement with another arab country the international community in particular of course the united states has been very much behind both because if you look for example of peace really egyptian peace accord although the initial contacts were made between israeli and egyptian it need to become summit and. president carter to finalize a deal in the case of the palestinians initial contacts between is on the palestinians back at the beginning we also called conducted through secret israeli palestinian charles to get them to any stage towards an agreement needs an international commitment particular as far as israel's concerned with the united states backing israel wants american backing for its security needs the
2:17 pm
palestinians on the other hand want to know that they have the backing of the arab world to make the compromises that they'll have to make if there ever is to be a peace agreement between the two sides are sort of focus on as well billy said lieberman also stated it is it if you that israel doesn't dismiss the suggestion of military strikes against iran the looking ahead are likely to think that scenario might be. worth very much the official israeli position all israeli officials will say that israel is removing any option from the table in terms of how to cope with iran's nuclear program however at the same time there isn't a feeling in israel among certain members of the security establishment particularly the former mossad head the guy who after he left office made a number of very public statements saying that israel alone couldn't solve the reigning nuclear issue and that any possible strike against iranian nuclear installations needed again the umbrella of the united states so this lieberman saying something but other israeli leaders have said i don't think that is the
2:18 pm
basic israeli premise of israel in this world alone is going to be the country that has to deal with the problem of iran's nuclear capable with this latest says that was it may be trying to stir up more trouble is calling for iran to be fully isolated what's more sanctions imposed on the country. thinking about the arab spring i think israel was trying to stir things up in a round of the hope of seeing an uprising there maybe. well no i think to leave when it's probably. possible that you can. on the run as an existential threat and the international community has to do with this i mean a nuclear armed iran does not only threaten israel it frightens all of your and it is a real danger to the world stability mr lieberman was doing with raising the prospect that israel hasn't taken any options off the table and there i think he was just reflecting
2:19 pm
a basic israeli stance by i don't think particularly right now israel is saying it's now or never israel is going to act alone i don't think it was doing really good to get your thoughts jeff butler a columnist for the jerusalem post thank you very much. moves to order for starters syria were a new constitution is being drafted after months of anti-government protests the draft is due to be completed within four months present assad schools multi-party elections in february after the run from protesters who put on the streets no since march this week tens of thousands of assad supporters have been cheering for the government of the syrian capital the unrest is claimed over three thousand lives with the u.n. warning the country might be heading for full load civil war artist pressure center spoke to people from both sides and says this report. was voices of support. and continuing dissent some ending in deadly clashes polar opposites and their demands but in some way united by
2:20 pm
a newfound zeal to take a stand where the fact that the syrian capital was gathered their support for the government that is going up are part of it as we've been seeing in other cities in the country where there have been reporting with me for going for several government protests the issue however what i think it was about where this country was the forces sometimes. very late at night with the. her husband and young children were one of many families of brave the heat enjoying the crowds in downtown damascus. it's true that we knew nothing about politics before but now we take a stand even if i'm a sunni muslim i'm pro this president. ever since most people started revealing their political stance openly some people would mock me and say since when do you know about politics what do you know very divisions among family members some are pro west side some are anti but that's how
2:21 pm
it is. it appears that apathy is becoming a less of an option for citizens of the nation now under intense international scrutiny. i never watched news i never cared if i ever ever had any interest in politics but. i think most of us read it but still watch the news without the cars and always with the no one pick up and then you have the right back around and other issues that i can think of the. yeah there are those like you i'm saying who are no strangers to picking a side and making it known he's long been voicing his discontent and what he calls a repressive regime and today facebook is one of his main tools in coordinating dissent catalyst activism has evolved in syria for me i feel that my voice goes further down back then it started with stating an opinion going to jail that he to get there and no one would even know about it that has changed now that people are
2:22 pm
more politically aware the same has been thrown in jail says he was tortured and finds himself constantly looking over his shoulder i knew i was detained for spreading the word on the violent crackdown in daraa but i feel like a coward if i didn't risk my life while those on the streets are doing so asking for the regime to fall a call a staunch ally opposed by those on the other side yet if. we give the. well political career also the end activism among syrians are growing whatever side of the divide they're on people here see the future of their country is at stake they're all are adamant that future is firmly in their own hands. that's our cilia r.t. damascus. nato forces in kosovo delivered an ultimatum to ethnic serbs manning the barricades at
2:23 pm
a border crossing in the breakaway regions north they're ordered to remove the obstructions all monday all peacekeepers will step in and clear the road themselves the serbs complain that they're getting too little to other comply the road blocks of now going into. it's fairly a month such open process that nato forces taking over the checkpoint and allowing cost of the customs officers to be placed there they may recall just last month some of the barricades were bulldozed resulting in violence with peacekeepers using rubber bullets and tear gas against the serbs because actions would be legitimate if not for the fact that they also serve the interests of course of an official says nicola tenacity and he's a political analyst for the magazine new serbian political thought who spoke to me . legally they do have a right to as they see. the poor it's a movement on the whole territory of cost of war but the problem is legitimacy because the serbian authorities avoid certain classes or do you recognize needles right and gave orders right to inforce the law is impossible but the problem is
2:24 pm
that most need a country the need to recognise independence are possible of visual and currently trying to implement bigger laws and to establish the checkpoints and the border between northern parts of moore invented and that is what is an acceptable to third fill for in itself it should be only nato convoys there would be no problem whatsoever but the problem is kerry in themselves meaning of this show from the possible government. recent raids by e. regulators on the european offices of russian energy giant gazprom may force wasco to review supply deals to europe industry analysts say the searches were a desperate act of pressure on russia to sell gas on better terms artie's europe correspondent daniel bushels of story. this event still to be one reason behind the e.u. raids on gazprom offices of the beginning of october european energy giants electricity
