now this comes as libyan leader himself look to the hague to bring a war crimes against nato over alliance troops deliberately striking good boy which they say posed no threat to civilians nato was only allowed into libya by the u.n. solely to protect citizens spode it's only a decision to do ended libyan mission by the end of this month after calls from the interim government to stay on others out isn't this a no discovered gadhafi is death isn't making the country any safer right now. one of the major concerns here are white weapons fire arms that are massively in the hands of the population here there are efforts from the end to see to try to collect and get people to willingly disarm and bring their weapons back but so far it doesn't look like that idea is working out we went to one collection center if you will yesterday it covers an area of tripoli and for the entire day only about ten or twelve a k forty seven have had been returned just to give you an idea of
3:02 pm
what that number means walking down one or two blocks here in the capital you can see maybe two times or three times more that amount of automatic weapons being waved around but even more serious concerns here in terms of security about weapons storage arsenals unguarded warehouses full of weapons what happens if those weapons get into the wrong hands already human rights watch has expressed grave concern about ground to air missiles that could essentially hit civilian aircraft if they get into the wrong hands of the security situation here very very sensitive not just recently some three hundred people were found murdered in sirte with their hands tied behind their back that is sparking accusations of political executions which is exactly what these former rebels were fighting against another thing that they just stinks if you will of hypocrisy of course is the way they could daffyd was killed i mean we saw the brutal gruesome. footage that went viral the whole
3:03 pm
world watching clipping of course libyans here and although of lot of the things you're seeing in the mass media is people just full of elation that gadhafi is down that dead when you go out and speak to people and you push them a little bit you do find that there are a lot of people here that are doesn't change we expressed just just horrible feelings about the way he was killed not to mention the fact that he was of course very different to muslim tradition he was put on display for days and only after thousands of people came to see him was he finally buried so it's not exactly as it seems from afar what people feel about gadhafi how we come here and actually start talking to them by that however not the case in the last three how some people very outspoken and happy about the way gadhafi was killed especially the mass media experts are telling us that's because gadhafi with him to the grave took many of his secrets of dealings with the west and they're reporting as we heard in her
3:04 pm
report the true nature of these relations with western leaders has led to some uncomfortable questions for some analysts since his son saif al islam who could blow the lid on alleged murky deals if he does get to the hague. well some of the details have already come to light they found documents on the floor of the british embassy in the abandoned british embassy in tripoli it's all close relations between britain and gadhafi before before the war started of course we're going to have a lot saif is going to have a lot information on that i think was so huge that tony blair intervened form to help him get his dodgy ph d. degree from the london school of economics one. degree or kind he was plagiarized there's a lot of things that have gone on that so you feel gadhafi knows about but the thing is this the people who really want to kill gadhafi are the families the enemies in the sea is simply the heir of. law of tribal revenge to gadhafi clan did terrible things to people in libya and now these families want revanche and that's
3:05 pm
simply their way of life their steam brown independent journalist who had a bit earlier on there now these gruesome pictures of lynching were met with cheers and applause as america's mainstream media which was quick to herald his demise as the dawning of a new libya has got a touch of cannes when finding out whether dancing on gadhafi is grave was justified. it started with cheers and. the joy of killing the african leaders spread like wildfire in the us media it was just a trillion dollars to get saddam and a billion dollars to get gadhafi in libya says they're going to pay back the billion that we spent to so it's going to end up being sort of free for free for nothing so let's get in on the ground there's a lot of money to be made in the future in libya there's a lot all to be produced no american soldier killed probably great opportunities ahead seems like the perfect new word favorable but one that's meant to be a lesson to other similar i think it's sense of an important message to other leaders in the region but i tell you that these are big traders they are not very
3:06 pm
original just like saddam hussein caught a middle hole will mark a dot he was a bad guy oh though many of us would argue how bad he was for them considering what they don't people don't include social welfare and women's rights but i think the i of the western audience as presented by the media he was the ultimate evil or me it's the demonization every step of the way against gadhafi in the media today always one one man becomes a justification one leader of a country becomes a justification for destroying an entire country. for a few days the media savored the bloody medieval. and laughed at similarities between his capture in a ditch and out of saddam hussein all the cheering about could office killing in the eye of the public effectively a raises the bad taste after nato campaign no mention of libyan civilians killed in nato strikes not much talk about the destruction in the country caused by those
3:07 pm
strikes and his killing is presented as a triumph a triumph which can create a perception that somehow it's perfectly ok to invade a country and help its leader be linked but if it's presented to such a success doesn't it become more tempting to try the same method somewhere else i'm going to check our reporting from washington are today. in the past hour e.u. leaders are finished the summit to try and wrestle a solution to the euro zone's debt plight seen by many as a last chance at it the banks that are in line it seems to bear the brunt less scared updated from archies daniel bushell our europe correspondent on the line from brussels now leaving to you but a busy night what's been a great bring us up to date. silvio berlusconi is revealing italy's letter of intent as it's called which pledges a lot of the things demanded by brussels for example to raise five billion euros from state assets and also to cut back on job protection measures he's also
3:08 pm
pledging to work increase its least pension age to sixty seven it took the offer of resignation by mr berlusconi to get the parliament to pass this and a new round of austerity measures in fact fist fights broke out in the parliament today as tensions rose over all of this it's really been reported mr berlusconi will still quit in the new year in return for getting these measures through one italian politicians said they won't take any lectures from nicolas sarkozy of france which he says has the same aggregated that as rome itself now there's been quite a traditional so warm what's been achieved today the polish leader said that there was a deal on bank recapitalization in place but the prime minister of britain says there's only been good progress to create this before which would support the banks if the greek economy goes under the exact sum by which the bailout fund is being increased won't be revealed till november all this thing at the moment it's being increased
3:09 pm
by several times e.u. leaders here have generally been in a very bad mood. is not usual enthusiastic sell he's been very downbeat nicolas sarkozy usually speaks to reporters as he arrives on the red carpet or the building he brushed past them today the greek prime minister did speak to the press he said that the greeks are making a superhuman effort. to make greece's economy viable but bookmakers have greece now two to seven to quit the euro and that means that they think it's extremely probable or as the gambling industry puts it that greece will leave the single currency because don't usually get it wrong the summit is expected to run over time into the night the u.k. chancellor alistair darling says that they should lock themselves in the building the e.u. leaders here in the e.u. commission building until they get a comprehensive solution because otherwise it will be panic stations for the world
3:10 pm
stock markets which had another terrible day today all right thanks to date. brings up today we'll be following that story of course even as more details come out there from brussels. but i spoke to dr marcus kerber he's a political economy professor in berlin he told me that germany's economic success over the past decade is no thanks to the euro. i have always heard that germany sooner or later is going to wield her power to bring the continent to back to economic reason because we are in a phase of the euro agonizing and if certain concept is agonizing he should bring it quickly to an end the money we spend on greece is lost money and we know this i have said this in spring two thousand and ten we should have kept greece out of the eurozone from the very beginning of the crisis to stop contagion eighty five percent of the germans disapprove the government's bailout policy and sooner or later that massive popular opposition has to be faced by the german parliament they
3:11 pm
have to pay tribute to that they cannot go on pursuing a policy which has turned out to be failing the economic success of germany is not at all due to the year of the people who say this have not read the figures i was going to say one of the ironies dr is that the greek army currently feels almost as many german battle tanks as germany itself i'm talking about the way that germany has benefited from having people like i have to tell you within the euro zone please i have to cut you short there. and i must remind you of the fact the france is now delivering friday gates for almost nothing to greece and added a moment where greece is actually in a situation of default so what is scandalising of many many years ago greece has been receiving german tanks as an ally turkey to receive german tanks but they're now in the period of deep crisis of greek crisis fronts continues to deliver friday gates to greece thoughts of dr marcus kerber
3:12 pm
a political economy professor of berlin speaking to me a bit earlier on. police in oakland california been trying hard to scare of occupy wall street protesters that kept coming back to the city hall the activist wanted to reestablish a tent camp that was torn down earlier ninety seven people arrested is more important i've been following developments. the scene that transpired on fold in oakland california is arguably the most violent scene we have seen thus far between us police officers and activist activists taking part in the occupy wall street movement police had fired tear gas flash grenades and rubber bullets at protesters being one man in the face with a rubber bullets and now this was all taking place and unfolding as about three hundred fifty occupied activists did not want to leave the camp grounds that they established weeks ago in front of city hall in oakland and the police in oakland
3:13 pm
california were removing them were trying to remove them and told them they cannot be there about three hundred fifty activists have set up camp there five hundred riot police reportedly went to the scene and not when the clash took place it is being reported that police have fired off tear gas four different times now another man aside from the one that was hit in the face with a rubber bullet was caught in a cloud of tear gas this man was in a wheelchair and from what images show police police kept. lobbying canisters at him police were also seen throwing flash grenades right into a group of people that were trying to help and injured woman clearly as you mentioned this is just the latest kind of incident clash between police officers and these activists a lot of police officers in new york city and throughout the country have been
3:14 pm
accused in criticized of using little force against u.s. citizens that are just trying to authorize and use their freedom of speech now police officials say they had no choice but to use these heavy handed tactics with the protesters they said some of the protesters began throwing rocks and bottles. at police officers city officials say two police men were injured in the clash that unfolded tuesday morning in oakland california but if it's going to be the last one many people highly doubt it because as artie's been reporting the occupy wall street movement has been growing louder has been growing bigger and has been gaining a lot of support i we're following of course as well extensively here on the web site up to dot com now we also spoke to independent journalist just wolf for some comment to he witnessed the police crackdown on protesters no clinton selfies as he puts much of the violence down to law enforcers having no sense of community with
3:15 pm
those who are demanding change i think that any time the people demonstrate that they have power the. city government is fearful of that i mean we live in a democracy supposedly but when the people come together in rallies and demonstrations we always are frequently see that men with a very strong arm of the law are and this is no exception this was a case where people had held his ground two weeks spreading all across the country and suddenly the government is seeing it as a threat and government is stepping in to shut it down most of the officers in oakland don't live anywhere near the city they don't relate to the people as if they're their neighbors they relate to government this is some outside city that they're they're trying to keep the people from overtaking the city is oftentimes the perspective that i hear when talking to police and so there really isn't a feeling of community between the police and the residents it really does feel like a different kind of occupation of the police are you prying the city and we're seeing
3:16 pm
this in many cities around the bay or in the country where your compiled wall street protests drawing from all walks of life people whose lives have been up ended by a recession that they blame on financial fact cats genesis it could have met one of them. from riches to rags an american fairy tale gone sour eric smith walks by a luxurious manhattan hotel the chef here for six years he whipped up posh meals for the rich and famous we did banquets for. we did parties for the past three presidents there are some really high end stuff the recession changed everything today eric is jobless and broke after being laid off on employment which is. about three months his ingredients have changed to we worked with a lot of high and. now it's lettuce and tomatoes for simple vegetable brought in
3:17 pm
a brooklyn soup kitchen where he volunteers as one of the cooks for occupy wall street protests the thirty eight year old detroit native dreams of starting his own business a taco truck but doesn't have the money you know it's been a struggle. has made me think about how other people are struggling even more than the realization that one in six americans are living in poverty i didn't work. out because lead eric to the occupy wall street protests calling for change just go from bad to worse to even worse and that's really happening all over the country the food he and other volunteers cook at the soup kitchen chairs everybody in the revolution. gets delivered to the protesters who spend day and night camping out howard to eric also sleeps here at the end of the nile and there's a about some people here i'll go to the comfort zone and find myself a sleeping bag right on the ground usually even though the chef is penniless in
3:18 pm
this revolution he says he's been waiting for it his entire life cooking for rich back cats in manhattan and trying to get their food out as fast as possible make sure it's perfect for the pour and the rich. greater than that always falter that. this is something i really don't look at the political and even though life is tougher than ever before eric says he would not choose to be anywhere else but here from relatively well off to flat out broke is not an exceptional biographer to have in the west these days eric story is one of millions but he is one of only hundreds that have found their way here so far in the states which are going to parties new york. all right we got a couple of years for the business now we just want to votes were the big story tonight the e.u. leaders hoping to reach that debt plan and there's they come out for tea break go there on the back in no meeting earlier on you may recall five minutes ago we heard
3:19 pm
from a german economist dr marcus kerber now he was referring in an interview to a german news magazines revelations in the week of a french plan to sell greece up to four new warships on credit. timing you may think its value to roughly three hundred million euros to even though of course greece is struggling to keep its head above water on the massive debt it's already got that's what they're meeting about tonight let's discuss the timing of all this let's go to greece economic analyst and international and its record says these all in greece yes or in athens tonight good to see you next so i mean let's just talk about this sideline while they're meeting while e.u. leaders in great conversations tonight including the french president wrangling over these details to save europe from a greek default french companies were here planning to sell greece warships and plunge it further into debt how does that up specially where your sitting and all the hardships your country is going through right now. well to be frank i think that it's just a great default that they're debating today i think it's much wider european issues
3:20 pm
including the us the inability of the eurozone itself and what they will do with the wide banking problem but returning to greece of course and the issue of defense it's not really something that greeks be the voted for voted against and a stance is never really been as an offensive military power we do engage in message. and sometimes we don't get very much value for money but we still are a sovereign country we still have a territory in the sand and we could always argue that if the germans paid us they will reparations that we could afford it gets why do you think this information those come out to like now this is only you know what didn't come out from the government is actually coming from a rival german arms for the guests who may have been i don't know a bit paiva they didn't get the deal but what is the thing i want to read into the timing of this now this really critical time for greece
3:21 pm
a more suspicious man may think that there is something to it i don't know it's just the syrian for the moment back it's just completely an accident nevertheless i mean we know that many contracts really given out by the great state usually go to western companies american german u.k. a french now there's always been competition between these major powers as to who would supply more and when it's only recently that greece is actually sold about buying arms for on have a people such as russia for example and in many cases we can get much better deals elsewhere in egypt that they were always delicate diplomatic negotiations and pressures behind the scenes of the contracts to the right people now in this particular case the germans feel that baby bankrolling the largest slice of any. very should get most of the bill of rights. you mentioned there i mean the argument
3:22 pm
i guess that the grease is a role in protecting leaves south eastern frontier but we're going to put it to you this time do you really think that the people on the ground most people in athens the suffering so much now with this virtually unserviceable debt consider that this purchase because this is a story of focusing on now that come out that this was a good way to spend money that racked up more debt again. well again we're not actually spending that money it's actually have to pay like at some point i guess trade finance more than anything else i mean the americans have trade finance from the chinese now if you asked most greeks average grades on the street should we defend our borders or should we just give away half of the genes and i'm sure that it will be the former but they will answer you of course we should protect our borders you know hundred no entirely sure that the austerity recipe and the need for national defense are entirely interlinked i think austerity is a dead end street but i also think that we have a g.d.s.
3:23 pm
of nations to protect ourselves and let me go further with that argument because there is print plenty of international precision contributes that will suggest that any country has a right not only to defend itself but to protect its people and if there is a conflict between the two it must protect itself and its people and going there is no i'm not i'm not a military expert not pretending to be but you know it's also a time to be looking at spending a time to be cutting economy cutting corners wherever possible i mean i'm reading here that greece is the poorest nato member yet it's got it ranking six by spending when it comes to defending itself michel is time to scale back a bit isn't it. it's not really a question of whether we want to scale back it's whether we can scale back there is a threat and it's a persistent threat of militarism and expansionism from circle and it's actually
3:24 pm
more than just a neighborhood at the moment. the new doctrine from surrogates that they once expressed moderate islam throughout the region that isn't something that greeks determine that something the greeks have to deal with it is a defensive posture that we take and let's remember we aren't bordered by switzerland or the u.k. or sweeter we have people around us and we live in quite a dangerous region. next practice always go get your viewpoint when you're on the program economic analyst and international lawyers who are thank you for being on. all right to the just after twenty five minutes past eleven moscow time looking ahead the crosstalk panel tonight focusing on whether moamar gaddafi is death was a brutal execution or to be expected is the last chapter in libya's vicious civil war so interesting program coming up for you shortly but not before for the business next.

dollars which is quite strong and good symbols from china that it may ease its monetary policy which is encouraging and later in the day the market got another boost from our better than expected durable goods orders coming out of the us on wednesday was a red letter day for scientists and business been working with nanotechnology in russia moscow is hosting the four fanatic form as part of the drive to modernize the economy make it less dependent on natural resources is businesses but in a cost. any image any tax can be printed on water and just a matter of a seconds and this is just one example out of a dozen seer rochelle of course is not exactly known for it's a nanotechnology industry that's what these people here are and now trying to change it's a crucial for russia to diversify its economy and find other ways to make money
3:28 pm
especially now when the risks are growing to global energy demand and that's why the government created a nano technology corporation called roosts nano and what this company is trying to do is develop the industry through cowen best man and projects with significant economic potential or social benefit so far they have approved the copilot and send all over a one hundred projects worth around eighteen a billion dollars and so they of course they're looking at so get more but so when it comes to what they've actually achieved in the past four years there's a not march to show and that's what's a war in many and right now it's crunch time for them to prove what they can do with all of that money well of course today is that what everyone's been saying is that nanotechnology is a grew a way for russia to achieve the modernization of its economy bring innovation and a secure cash in the long term. that's all we have for you this hour the headlines
