7:00 pm
it's an oakland raider blitz this as police in riot gear blindside peaceful protesters the pepper spray tear gas and stun bullets so with brutality becoming the norm in cities across the country is this a symbol that elites have had enough with the growing occupy wall street movement and is this a sign that america has had enough with the banks or is that. but it's not just the u.s. struggling economically a greek tragedy also is on so greece defaults will america's pillars be the next to crumble and obama prevent a collapse with and is actually of order. where i tell you that these are big data is very very original just like saddam hussein caught a little hole to mark yudof he was a bad guy well you know they say the believe it leaves and that was the case with gadhafi is that the mainstream media welcomed the news with open arms and celebrations but what about this area president his deaths out for nato.
7:01 pm
it's wednesday october twenty sixth seven pm in washington d.c. i'm liz wall and you're watching artsy occupy wall street protests turned violent in california where police resorts using force pepper spray ends here gowns to subdue the mobs of demonstrators. dozens were arrested last night in the city of oakland as police respond to orders to crack down on demonstrations the movement which has spread across the nation and the globe continue to escalate over on land after a spark that if excel that much of america agrees with the movements not said they are rally against corporate greed and a system they say favors the top one percent while neglecting the interests of the middle class and everyone else
7:02 pm
a new poll shows that forty three percent of americans agree but the views of the occupy wall street movement a minority twenty seven percent disagree thirty percent aren't so sure that if these harsh tactics and tame protesters show that the top one percent have had enough is the corporate elite now trying to silence a voice that is growing louder and america for more earlier i was joined by katz host of the tony couch spectacular all patriots media dot com and charlie mcgrath founder of wide awake news i started by asking them if they think the police are trying to silence the protesters by resorting to violence here is charlie's take parts i think the realization is there to this isn't. the mainstream media straight portrayed this for the last month and just the far left movement is growing it's spreading energy very much real and the momentum is spreading across this country and the world i think the power elites you know if it was their intention it was the far west intention to start this occupy movement then it is rapidly spiraling
7:03 pm
out of their control because so many people the this this past ninety nine point nine percent of the planet basically are get completely disenfranchised and so this frustration is going to continue to spread. the powers that be are certainly going to try to rein this in before it becomes a real movement that would lead to change tony what do you think is the top one percent scared. i don't know you'd have to ask somebody in the quote unquote top one percent but i think that when you take a look at what's happened forgive me i don't have a monitor i wasn't able to see the photo that you put out i don't think anybody's going to be in favor of court of go police brutality but let's take a look at the whole picture what's happening in oakland and atlanta specifically in oakland with reporters being threatened. will break your camera as they get hurt the paint being thrown at the police this is not a conversation about advocating for or explaining away or or condoning police
7:04 pm
brutality this is a conversation about what's happening you referred to it as a mob in the beginning i don't think this is a good way to protest if this is occupy wall street for whatever their message is is trying to get a message across this is no way to do it well these people say that they aren't being heard in any other way and this is their last resort. i mean what other math can they use to get their voice heard. tea party got their voice heard we never once threw paint at police officers we never had to sleep in a park for a month we never had to abuse the businesses around us by using their bathrooms using their water using their toilet paper using their not good use of their paper towels and not spending any money in that vicinity it never happened there are numerous ways to get your voice heard listen i don't believe in the founding fathers i've read the declaration of independence i understand why they engaged the second the moment in the constitution i understood what they meant about long
7:05 pm
suffering the ills but there's a conversation that can be had here if we want to talk about cronyism that's a legitimate conversation we can have that but what oakland is engaging in with the conversations about anti-semitism and it's the jews faults and the basically usurpation of this movement by communist and socialist means and thought processes that's not going to get anywhere and that's what's happening. you know some argue that the occupy wall street protests they are revealing a military invasion of a police force and the u.s. and that we're seeing here. or are you asking me that question i'll ask you all of this question over to charlie what do you think charlie is it or was he militarism military exemption wasn't believe this or is this really is this now being revealed . absolutely i mean since nine eleven since the patriot act we've seen the security industrial complex go up throughout the country we've seen police departments
7:06 pm
become militarized and now we have the army sixty thousand strong army of uniformed t.s.a. agents just typifies you know the direction we've had in the last decade and you know i want to address tony if i may twenty ninth to meet you and i agree with him vigeland is not the answer i agree with him because i'm i was out there with the tea party under george w. bush protesting for i stand to government corruption and you legal wars i don't see a difference between the tea party movement and the occupy movement i see a level of frustration difference that is very apparent and i think that is because in two thousand and seven two thousand and eight the people that were marching in the tea party were looking forward what was coming down the road in this country and now we have it here we have a nation that is led by these too big to fail complete corruption between wall street and main street and now we have millions of people in this country that have become non-persons not effective and their voice is not being heard so well i agree
7:07 pm
with tony that there is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for violence i think we're seeing the in result of people's words not being heard i was there with all the town hall meetings occurred i was there we wrote letters and called senators and congressmen trying to get real effective change and what happened in the end is the tea party ended up being completely and totally co-opted used in the midterm election to get a wave election to give us a description of congress that maintains the status quo. now you know i want to and i go go ahead. i was just saying that that's where charlie and i split i don't believe that the tea party's been co-opted as a guy who has put together organize host of the spoken many many at tea parties i believe that the tea party is more effective today than it has been ever it's just that we're not necessarily rallying in the streets we're precinct walking we're phone banking we're getting candidates elected we were instrumental in the elections of twenty ten like we will be in two thousand and twelve fourteen sixteen eighteen twenty and beyond the comparison between the tea party and by wall street
7:08 pm
charlie i also agree on the idea that there is no such thing as too big to fail when president bush said he'd go against the free markets to fix the free markets idea that was nonsense or created websites about i created videos about it but that's where if any slim similarity exists it ends because the tea party is in favor of the constitution capitalism fiscal responsibility and smaller government and no one can actually explain without my wall street isn't paver out right now because anything that they once they have believed in has been co-opted by all the groups i've already mentioned tony i don't i don't disagree with you the principles of the tea party aren't the people that were involved in your original tea party they still feel the same way that you. are right now what i'm saying is the mainstream media has gravity and branded it into the far right wing of the republican party and both you and i know that that is absolutely not the case the tea party is against true big government plane and so now i want to take
7:09 pm
a break here i want to play for you a clap that we have with a rage against the machine from colorado and get your reaction right after. why didn't present as i think that's very obvious you know he's he's you know he's considered a you know what a fire breathing socialist that is and look as a as a half kenyan harvard graduate from illinois is a for everything socials let me assure you the president is not the first one but you know you didn't want to be painted with the other. with the article movements i think he considers he's got enough problems as it is but people later come begging to our doorstep a guarantee that. now tony is there for a why it's political move for president obama to distance himself from the occupy wall street movement i think it's never a wise political move to engage the lead singer of rage against the machine is that when you look towards for moral clarity or political purpose the guy who built the
7:10 pm
entire band has they have take of our on their website who was a murderer he wasn't a revolutionary he admits that he's a socialist he just want to make that he's a communist let's talk about what people won't admit to so i don't give him any credence whatsoever communism is absolutely horrible and people who believe in communism are indeed fools is should president obama tie himself in with it we've already seen that the triple c. put up on its web site a page where you can join where you can actually sign a petition and support occupy wall street so there's no question that the detroit will see that the democratic party not by wall street do see themselves hand in hand even though there are some of the quote unquote occupy wall street movement who want to distance themselves from it and you know the media has that has painted this picture up of protesters as an arc as part of the extreme left boxes using the method of pre-trained the movement as anti-capitalist and that we're seeing here an anti-capitalist movement i'll direct back question entirely. well i first want to
7:11 pm
be with tony i don't know if you go into the lead singer raise you can sometimes seem to get. my political ideology satisfied but i love that music i want to say that you know the fact is the president is is not a communist he's not what we have is the corporatocracy and he is absolutely the exact same as george w. bush serving the masters on wall street if you think that that is not the case then you're not a basis in reality the fact of the matter is he's doing everything that george w. bush did in order to make sure that the too big to fail state exactly the systemic juggernauts that they are and he will play lip service to being part of the occupy movement and in fact he started out with taking a stance but i think i think as this movement continues to grow we're going to see that the party and the occupy movement we have a lot more in common than we have apart the fact of the matter is it is the massive ninety nine percent of you have nots versus the very small house and the matter
7:12 pm
what kind of propaganda or how they the democrats or republicans of blue or red team want to spin this we're all in this going together their goal is to drive this which between tea party and occupy between red and blue so that we consider it a battle with each other rather than look at the people who truly bought ronsard and i was tony katz host of the tony had spectacular all patriots media dot com and charlie mcgrath founder about wide awake news and found the united states turmoil over the economy and the eurozone has had the same gather in brussels today to tackle the problem of a likely greek part fear that if the people in the country could send shock waves throughout europe starting a domino effect that would subsequently think the economies of italy france and even reaches here in the u.s. the i.m.f. now considering coming to the rescue and content contributing to the bailout fund what are the consequences of agreeing the. and how can the economic downfall in the
7:13 pm
euro zone affect the already troubled economy here in the us what only answer these questions i spoke to advert harrison founder of credit write down the start things off i asked him a simple question if greece does the fall what would the impact take a listen my view is that a deep cut would mean that greece would actually have more fiscal space going forward right now they have to undertake enormous austerity in order to make ends meet and a default would actually mean that austerity would be less and so as a result the negative impact. of cutting government spending would be lessened the question is what's going to be the impact on the banking system and you know you have to recapitalize the banks in order to make a follow up so i think that a. default would actually be positive for the united states if you can make sure that there's no contagion. ok and could you talk
7:14 pm
a little bit more about how american institutions financial institutions are tied to greece that you know there's a c.d.s. market that's. the credit default swap market and that is potentially to greece but the direct ties are not necessarily that large in terms of the amounts of debt that american banks hold of greece so i don't think the direct ties are really that large it's really more about money market funds that are invested in. european banks that are also invested in greece and so it's more of an indirect tie outside of these credit default swaps which are basically insurance on greek. ok and you said earlier that a greek default may even be a positive thing what do you say to some out there that say such a greek default cuddly to you. and economic collapse
7:15 pm
a collapse that could spread throughout europe and could spread here in the u.s. i mean what's your response to that fear my response is you know obviously if the default is done in a messy not believable way could the reality is that greece has a much higher debt to g.d.p. in terms of government debt than all of the other countries within the euro zone italy has one hundred twenty ireland has one hundred percent portugal had ninety. spain something like seventy percent so those are much lower numbers if you were to recapitalize the banks and then say that greece is different than these other countries and these other countries can make the grade and you were actually credibly backstop them in some way through the e.c.b. the european bailout. i think you know it would stop agrees and the i.m.f. as you just mentioned they are considering participating in the e.u. bailout fund the first the first indication that the fund is trying. a bigger role
7:16 pm
than previously thought and the us is a major subscribers to the i.m.f. they contribute over seventeen percent if the i.m.f. word available euro zone what does that mean for taxpayers here in the us i mean are they fighting the bill for that as well less concerned about the u.s. footing the bill and the i.m.f. being involved what i'm really concerned about in terms of the bailout is the fact that the bailout fund itself is not necessarily credible you know in the united states the interest rates are incredibly low our debt to g.d.p. is equivalent. same thing in the u.k. equipment to france they have very low interest rates the french the italians the spanish they have much higher interest rates the reason is because it's not credible that the that is the european bailout fund can backstop those governments the united states has a backstop in terms of the federal reserve the e.c.b. could play that role but has chosen not to do so so my principal concern is the
7:17 pm
fact that the path that the european bailout fund really is not a credible guarantor of this sovereign debt of all the european nations ok but i'm going to switch the focus here a little bit president obama is promoting a series of executive orders one of them announced this week would make it easier for homeowners to refinance their mortgages today we saw him he announced another executive action that would allow students to better manage their student loan debt and the white house says this is the way to get things done quickly and a timely manner without the approval of congress which going that direction at this point doesn't seem to be. going anywhere how do you feel about the president now exercising his executive powers was only these measures are going to be that that makes a huge difference basically. what you really need to see is credit write downs in these these loans that are on payable but the reality is if the. banks start
7:18 pm
writing down specific loans to specific individual student loans mortgages that everyone's going to start wanting to get a write down and in truth only a minority of the people who are underwater are going to be the ones who end up defaulting not everyone is going to default so you could actually make the problem bigger by inducing everyone to try to get some sort of right really were sort of stuck here we have you know there's no systemic solution to the problem. as we're thank you so much for your insight on all of this that was edward harrison founder of credit write down. all much of the world revels in the glory death of longtime libyan leader moammar gadhafi the jubilation field by the mainstream media's portrayal of the softly as a heinous evil dictator but as the killing of moammar gadhafi is not a scary president proving that nato can topple any dictator they please guy and
7:19 pm
kitchen counter it's a closer look at media coverage of the death of gadhafi and what it may reveal about the power of neda. it started with cheers and. the joy of killing the african leaders spread like wildfire in the us it was just a trillion dollars to get saddam and a billion dollars to get gadhafi in libya says they're going to pay back a billion that we spent to so it's going to end up being sort of free for free for nothing so let's get in on the ground there's a lot of money to be made in the future in libya there's a lot all to be produced no american soldier killed probably great opportunities ahead seems like the perfect and you were faced with one that's meant to be a lesson to others i think it's sense of an important message to other leaders in the region but i tell you that these are big hitters they are not very original just like saddam hussein caught a little hole will mark a dot he was a bad guy although many of us would argue that he was from them considering what
7:20 pm
you know people don't see the welfare of women's rights but in the eye of the western audience as presented by the media he was the ultimate evil it's a demonization every step of the way against gadhafi in the media today always one one man becomes a justification one leader of a country becomes a justification for destroying an entire country. for a few days the media savored the bloody music. and the rapid similarities between his character in a ditch and out of saddam hussein all the cheering about could office killing in the eye of the public effectively a raises a bad place after nato campaign no mention of libyan civilians killed in nato strikes not much talk about the destruction in the country caused by those strikes and his killing is presented as a triumph a triumph which can create a perception that somehow it's perfectly ok to invade a country and help its leader be linked but if it's presented to such
7:21 pm
a success doesn't it become more tempting to try the same method somewhere else i'm kind of struck there reporting from washington are today. and earlier i talked to richard spencer executive director of the national policy institute now the death of gadhafi continues to be touted as a foreign policy victory by the mainstream media i asked him a simple question is that really the case here is his take. well you had a lot of cheerleading about that that the dictator that we are familiar with from saddam and and many others but i'm not sure how you could possibly call this a triumph of the west when the campaign began in march a pentagon spokesman explicitly said that they were not going after gadhafi and then we learned actually in a new york times report from a couple days ago that they were discussing whether nato should kill him or not and of course nato was bombing on behalf of these rebels thugs who eventually
7:22 pm
brutalized it off and ended up killing him so i don't know how you could possibly call this a triumph for the west that had nothing use to the war aim it did not improve the lives of anyone living in the united states or or europe or anything like that it was a kind of it was you know one more of these blue dog rules and incoherent foreign policy endeavors that benefits the people in no shape or form and in some ways this kind of bombing on behalf of these rebels who we know little about and who will likely not really serve western interests whatsoever now what do you think has that says about the power of no doubt. well it's it's very concerning in many ways because remember i think it also says a lot about the current state of the united nations and i think that's also very important somebody un this is a kind of democratic it was the liberals war is humanitarian intervention and the
7:23 pm
u.n. approved airstrikes to prevent a humanitarian atrocity in libya however even after nato supported and supported a regime change they supported rebels who destroyed gadhafi and so on and so forth there were there are no consequences for the united states even though they did things that they said they were. and you do and so basically what you have a situation where within the u.n. if the united states decides to overthrow a government it does not like there will be no consequences for it in the body in terms of nato i think nato is totally incoherent organization it was of course a dinosaur from the cold war era and i think it is used as a tool at the behest of the united states and and sometimes some other european
7:24 pm
powers to do more of these foreign policy endeavors that don't make any sense now beyond the death of gadhafi in the city where he was killed it's now in shambles there's an untold number of civilians dad food water medical care reportedly isn't accessible and why are we hearing about all of this. well i think the media as the spokes people for washington want to present some story of you know getting dong the evil dictator is dead and this is going to make them popular something like this i don't think that's really working i think the social mood has dramatically changed that the americans just really aren't interested in that. but in terms of of what's going to actually happen for libya and the i've heard of mass graves and so on and so forth and get off the hometown we have to remember america has had a history of working with sometimes islamic extremists if you've seen the case of
7:25 pm
david kay away during the bombing of serbia working with al qaeda in when the russia was in afghanistan it's no conspiracy theory to say the cia invented al qaeda so to speak in the sense that they they wanted to give russia vietnam and really make them feel at. the washington is very willing to work with thuggish organizations like the ones i've just described who in many ways bring a lot of pain to their country and the main goal that the elite have is really to make sure that oil is priced in dollars that the dollar remains the kind of world reserve currency the dollar standard remains intact and if that means that tayo losses is occurring on the home front of these countries that's on that one gold and chant and speaking of washington to you last and other western powers
7:26 pm
they've known about it often it's kind of like talking for exactly why is it only in recent years that he is being deemed as both evil evil dictator well they were working with doxy recently i remember in two thousand and four dick cheney and george bush were proudly announce that gadhafi was giving the. intelligence and that he had stopped a nascent. nuclear weapons program and i'm sure he was doing much more so the united states was perfectly willing to work with gadhafi in certain ways and i think what this shows is that the. henry kissinger line that it's dangerous to be america's enemy but it's even more dangerous to be its friend holds true once again because the was working with the united states and yet when washington decided to kind of ride the wave of the arab spring they thought they could get something out of this he was dispensable and they killed him and i think the lesson that will be learned by major powers certainly like russia and china but also smaller third
7:27 pm
world powers is don't work with the united states it doesn't say they might like you for five years and then offer you the next so that's now and this is going to my last question where do you think that libya stands as a warning to the world that any regime can be toppled by nato powers. yes to a certain extent however i think any small regime that is a third world power and if america turns against them if they decide to jump on some bandwagon like the arab spring yes they are willing to use nato however you know you hear a lot of these maniacs like john mccain and and others who are frightening clinton and russia or something like that and at some level that that kind of bellicose rhetoric is going to run up against the brick wall of reality there is no
7:28 pm
possible way that the united states can liberate the world or we're ever going to do something like in the russia if they do anything like that then i think our situation is much worse than even i imagine. richard thank you for your thoughts on that that was richard spencer executive director of the national policy and career . well that does occur now for more of the stories we covered had to r.t. dot com slash usa and you can also check out our youtube page it's youtube dot com slash arts him america you can also follow me on twitter out of all be right back here and thirty minutes.
7:29 pm
thank. you to the police in. thanks. but what a protest nobody seems to know. that never break the base but more of the argument that they're being overly dramatic.
