that about thirty three to forty million dollars would be spent and we just got new numbers in just today that shows that over thirty million dollars have been spent by both sides on t.v. ads on mailers and it's coming from unions and it's coming from you know private companies on both sides are how much how much money is secret corporate cash. well we don't know that because the g.o.p. groups there are trying to keep it on the books instead of buying on the books aren't revealing any of their finances they don't have to pay set themselves up as nonprofits and they set up front groups to raise their money so we don't actually know how much is coming from from private interests but we can look back at who supported case sick in getting him elected and then you know he was elected and quickly turned around and champion senate bill five so we look back at his election we can see how groups like the republican governors association and and their front

group which is happening why right now it's comical hio great how the republican governors association in the past funneled money from companies like coca-cola and wal-mart and private healthcare companies into defeating democratic incumbent ted strickland getting case that into office and then allowing casing to quickly turn around and get it on books so amazing what role is fox news and news corp playing in this. well governor case they used to be part of news personality and you know he received a million dollars from news corp during election actually he didn't the republican governors association did and then use that money they been able to middleman money from and it is like box news and the koch brothers into getting him elected and now that he's elected he's you know this is not just this s.b. five go isn't just a referendum on the bar it's a referendum on case the self and if he gets embarrassed with if you go vote for his own citizens it's not going to look good for the rest of his term so you know

we can assume that now that it's more money coming in from the people who supported him originally trying to protect their investment are there any kind of laws know how to force disclosure of the. you know invisible corporate cash that's coming in the state. there are but the way that these groups set it up they set up a non profit corporation as fundraising arms and they don't have to report. any of their any of their fundraising one of the groups building about ohio which is the main republican view while defending senate bill five just today revealed some of their joints they didn't reveal donation amounts they got a lot of money from the house chamber of commerce and. you know companies like discount drug mart and large steel companies but they didn't tell us how much money they got from each one of the donors and make y.-o. great a front group for the republican governors association is also

a nonprofit based in d.c. they don't have to disclose either now on the union side in the pro-labor stovey of we are ohio that's the major vehicle campaigning for repeal this them selves of the political action committee and under iowa law they have to disclose and they have been disclosed and from what information we has it looks like the pro-union side it's actually raised and spent more it's interesting we saw this same inundation of corporate money in the wisconsin recall elections earlier this year and frankly you know union money coming into the fight you know to push for the recalls. but the the big corporate box really helped republicans keep control that that state by just by the skin of the cheaper one vote could the same result happen here in ohio . well the repeal is been ahead in the polls for a while and there is a pretty large grassroots contingent of people going towards the door to get this repealed however after the republican governors association building

a better ohio start bear media campaign the pro repeal side was then dropped in the polls are still ahead but it's going to be close and you know we're looking at ohio we can think about governor scott walker in wisconsin he was received some of the same out of state support in his arguments for alexion campaign as its case they did it from you know the koch brothers from alec companies and from the republican governors association and you know the result was two governors with similar ideologies and then putting similar bills through the legislature. just really in the last minute here we think we have if senate bill is as the five as repeal the false question to i guess it's called. passes what will move what will it mean for the as a whole and for the state of ohio. well you know the union movement in ohio has definitely invigorated by this battle they've raised a lot of money but they've also gotten thousands and thousands of volunteers on the

street and it kind of created a sense of solidarity between private sector unions and public sector unions that hasn't seen an eye on a long time i talked to a lot of people there on the ground group very excited about the energy and the momentum that was created by the movement to get this repealed to get there once it's on the ballot it's good shoot too and if you vote no you're voting to veto a senate bill five to get this veto vote has really brought together the union movement is going to be tougher for public employees have passed the five states on the books certainly as are quite a party right there you have to pay more attention health care costs and the unions might lose a bit of influence in a key swing state but on the grassroots level this is really created it isis sense of solidarity how many together for a lot of parents and wonderful wife just to just be clear that should be vote no on issue two. is are you though no one issue to you voting for a veto if you vote yes you're going to be on the books ok. woodward thanks a lot for being with us. thank you so much thomas jefferson famously said i know of

the heck they are yesterday the six democrats on the gang of twelve super committee introduce their first proposal as in first offer a starting point for negotiations and go she asians and the republicans over the next month and in it they proposed cutting four hundred billion dollars from medicare that's a four hundred billion dollars cut from medicare the program democrats created. a program the democrats fought hard against republicans like ronald reagan who even voiced ate a thirty three lp a recording heard by millions of americans the a.m.a. sent off all over the country suggesting that medicare would put us on the road to a soviet style of socialism that's a four hundred billion dollar cut for medicare a program that seventy eight percent of americans want left alone and that's a four hundred billion dollars cut from medicare it's only going to get worse

because again this is the first offer on the table from the democrats on the game it's worth so once the republicans start negotiating it's a safe bet i think that that number is going to get bigger and bigger and bigger which begs the question why i'm earth would democrats put their second most prized creation behind social security on the table for sacrifice when everyone knows that the republicans are going to compromise on raising taxes on millionaires and billionaires no matter what the democrats offer up a democrat not yet we learn their lesson you know why the republican base can't get excited about mitt romney because he's a flip flopper he doesn't stand for anything he does what's easy he does what he needs to do to get a few votes or cut a deal or a couple years ago the sea pack conference if you want a radio show from there every year after five years they were walking around there

was a flipper somebody dressed up like flipper the dolphin and people were handing out flipping you know the answer ironically republicans and democrats for some reason are acting like a bunch of mitt romney's they're willing to ditch the party's principles in the hope that they can strike some kind of deal with republicans. some kind of backroom deal which they might. get a tiny morsel but what they're looking for are the republicans as john boehner famously brag after their last negotiations said he got ninety eight percent of what he wanted democrats this is a losing strategy the american people don't want compromisers they want someone who sticks to their guns who believes in something and is willing to fight for it for example americans might have hated bush's policies or at least many americans but

they like his swagger or at least his convictions are the appearance of the same was true of rated and f.d.r. and harry truman you may have disagreed with them and a lot of people did vehemently all of you always knew where they stood the american people have aggressively embraced what progressives have fought to bring to this nation over the last century from teddy roosevelt square deal to franklin roosevelt's new deal to lyndon johnson's great society seventy eight percent of americans oppose cutting medicare a program created by democrats seventy three percent of americans oppose cutting medicaid another program created by democrats sixty two percent of americans oppose any kind of cuts to social security another program created by democrats sixty seven percent of americans oppose cutting off unemployment insurance another program created by democrats let republicans run on their desire

to cut these programs what a moron you try to run on handing over social security to wall street bankers they handing medicare over to for profit health insurance executives because they can't win at least not as long as democrats don't give in. and offer cuts up themselves like the six democrats in the gang of twelve just did it's really something democrats want to act like there's no difference between them and republicans that's the point of even having two parties as legend has harry truman saying people don't want to follow any democrat but it's a choice between a genuine republican a republican a democrat a close it will choose the genuine article every time it's time for democrats to stand up and be proud of what they've created over the last hundred years in america and to fight to defend these programs from this unprecedented attack

against them by the republican party democrats may not win this debate but that's fine at least the american people will start realizing that one party is fighting for them again and if they keep doing it if they keep standing up for something and fighting like democrats then of that eventually the electoral victories will come as they did when harry truman took on the republican do nothing congress in one thousand nine hundred eighty eight and democrats took and held the majority in the house of representatives for the next forty six years harry truman laid out the message everybody heard it everybody got it but democrats held the congress for the next forty six years after truman said this. and the reason is that the people know the democratic party is the people's party and the republican party is the party of special interest. has been and always will be.
