quick everyone this is simple europe i go wars that some say it's before it's too late it's. coming out for you in fact scenes the cure for your stuffy nose aches and fever maybe in your kitchen the food ingredient happens to be a mystery medicine and when i speak in science. what drives the world of fear mongering used by politicians who makes decisions committed to break through that sort of people who may who can you trust no one who is in view with the global machinery to see where we had a state controlled capitalism is called sasha's when nobody dares to ask we do our t. question more.
11:31 pm
welcome back to big picture i'm sam arbonne coming up in this half hour voters overwhelmingly oppose ohio's anti-union law known as a speech by so called next month's election when the laws on the ballot for repeal will or voices be heard for her to cash drown them out and answer coming up and more than fifty years ago harry truman said something that still rings true today we can only get the democrats to act like harry truman more of what the democratic
11:32 pm
party's to do right now here and those around him ideally take. republican efforts to subvert our democracy are rampant around the world in tennessee an eighty six year old veteran is essentially forced to pay a poll tax since a new law there requires citizens in that state to get a photo id to be eligible to vote in the next election and then went to the d.m.v. to get his new photo id and was told he needed to pay eight bucks for it it's a clear violation of the twenty fourth amendment which clearly says that the right of citizens to vote shall not be a bridge with a poll tax or any other tax. state officials have since said this was a mistake and that if the man had simply made it clear they needed the i.d. to vote then it would have been free so i guess you could avoid pain for the right
11:33 pm
to vote as long as you know the secret code words meanwhile in michigan republican lawmakers are pushing through legislation to make it harder to register people to vote similar legislation has already been passed in florida where a high school teacher is now facing power of dollars and fines simply for how helping her students register and there and then there's what's going on in ohio more important election is looming that will determine the fate of that union as the five there corporations and special interests are trying to drown out the voices of the people who want to send governor john k. sick a message on where he can stick his anti-union laws so will boats for corporate money when this election for more on what's going on in ohio i'm joined by my food reporter truthout dot org mike welcome admixture having me here great great to have you with us thanks for joining us this is an off year election it's not even a midterm election but how much money has been spent on this and. what people
11:34 pm
estimate it dad about thirty three to forty million dollars would be spent and we just got new numbers in just today that shows that over thirty million dollars have been spent by both sides on t.v. ads on mailers and it's coming from unions and it's coming from you know private companies on both sides there how much how much money is secure corporate cash. well we don't know that because the g.o.p. groups there are trying to keep the bill on the books instead of on the books aren't revealing any of their finances they don't have to base set themselves up as nonprofits and they set up front front groups to raise their money so we don't actually know how much is coming from from private interests but we can look back at who supported kay stick in getting him elected and then you know he was elected and quickly turned around and championed senate bill so we look back at his election we can see how groups like the republican governors association and their
11:35 pm
front group which is that money well right now just make ohio great how the republican governors association in the past funneled money from companies like coca-cola and wal-mart and private health care companies into defeating democratic incumbent ted strickland get in case they're going to office and then allowing cases to quickly turn around and get beyond books raising what role is fox news and news corp playing. well governor case they've used to be facts news personality and you know he received a million dollars from news corp during the action actually he didn't the republican governors association did and then use that money they've been able to middleman money from entities like fox news and koch brothers and to getting him elected and now that he is elected he's you know this is not just this s.b. five vote isn't just a referendum on the bar it's a referendum on case to consult and if he gets embarrassed with a veto vote from his own citizens it's not going to look good for the rest of his
11:36 pm
term so you know we can assume that now there's more money coming in from the people who supported him originally trying to protect their investment are there any kind of laws know how to force disclosure of the. you know invisible corporate cash that's going to stay. there are but the way that these groups set it up they set up non profit corporations as fundraising arms and they don't have to report. any of their any of their fundraising one of the groups building about ohio which is the main republican vehicle defending senate bill five just today revealed some of their jones they didn't reveal donation amounts they got a lot of money from your house chamber of commerce and. you know how music this country rug mart and large steel companies but they didn't tell us how much money they got from each one of the donors and make great the front group of the republican governors association is also nonprofit based in d.c.
11:37 pm
and they don't have to disclose either now on the union side of the pro-labor side we have we are ohio that's the major vehicle campaigning for repeal based on themselves and it's a political action committee and under iowa law they have to disclose and they have been disclosed and from what information we has it looks like the pro-union side it's actually raised and spent more it's interesting we saw this same inundation of corporate money in the wisconsin recall elections earlier this year and frankly you know union money coming into the fight it you know to push for the recalls. but the big corporate box really helped republicans keep control that that state by just of scale the team by one vote could the same result happen here in ohio. well the repeal has been ahead in the polls for a while and there is a pretty large grassroots contingent of people going towards the door to get this repealed however after the republican governors association building a better ohio start their media campaign the pro repeal side was then dropped in
11:38 pm
the polls are still ahead but it's going to be close and you know you can bet ohio we can think about governor scott walker in response and he was received on the same out of state support in his view miss auriol election campaign as its case it did it from you know the koch brothers from alec companies and from the republican governors association and you know the result was two governors with similar ideologies and then putting similar bills through the legislature. just wrote in the last minute here when we have if senate bill is as the five as repeal the force question to i guess it's called. passes what will move what will it mean for the movement as a whole and for the state of ohio. well you know the union movement in ohio has definitely invigorated by this they've raised a lot of money but they also gotten thousands and thousands of volunteers on the street and it kind of created
11:39 pm
a sense of solidarity between private sector unions and public sector unions that hasn't seen you know on a long time i talked to a lot of people there on the ground group very excited about the energy and the momentum that was created by the movement to get this repeal to get go it's on the ballot it's issue two and if you vote no you're voting to veto a senate bill five to get this veto vote has really brought together the union movement is going to be tougher for public employees have s.p. five seats on the books are going to lose or quite a party right there have to pay more in pension and health care costs and the unions might lose a bit of influence in a key swing state but on the grassroots level this is really created a sense of solidarity coming together for a lot of parents and want to feel like it's just to just be clear that should be vote no on to. is you vote no on issues you're running for veto if you vote yes you're going to get on the books ok nyclu woodward thanks so a lot for being with us. thank you so much thomas jefferson famously said i know of
11:40 pm
no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves unfortunately with the republican assault on democracy and voting rights around the country it's becoming harder and harder to hear the people's voices. it's the good the bad and the very very sad. leave a really good perfect titan the pit bull normally when people think of pit bulls they think of ferocious drugs but tight as a lifesaver after titans owner gloria bettman suffered an aneurism and fell down fractured her stall type immediately sprang into action and notified her husband of the x. . running around the circle to monitor the first level and that now birth of the step from that now. do you want to follow him which i did still and behold listen
11:41 pm
to them but there's no in the timeframe in broward and then there would be if we had he would have been here because when i only hope that mechanism who caught napping then we can leave a belated death of the manner of them killed or. banks and titans guidance he found his wife and rush are to her hospital to the hospital vintage point neighborhood association since awarded state and the neighbor of the year award making him the first dog ever to some such honors now taken could just teach john boehner eric cantor values you know there's a bad evan coyne maloney the conservative filmmaker associated with fake journalist actor james o'keefe was spotted in new york city at the occupy wall street movement and he wasn't very cover the movement as a journalist he was there to give it a bad name a lot he was caught hanging out andy out longs and rolling papers to occupiers in hopes of getting a nifty little shot that would likely end up on auction. news later luckily his plan didn't work out and he was exposed. you have farms and your backpacks off and
11:42 pm
you think you could just let people take about a year long sit on a leash a go cart rolling papers are you taking pictures of people with we're here then you know we get to see those pictures on fox news i don't know we'll pick an ok deal so you don't see what's the purpose of like you're not taking pictures of people with bombs or giving out cars sufis or somehow you give it away paul now looks really good when he was some thermals worse thing not politics. as the right wing so-called journalist credo goes if what you're trying to uncover isn't real what does make it up that's the way the right with and the very very ugly house republican leadership in charge of the house of representatives republican leadership is in charge of figuring out what bills will be brought to the floor and voted on and they have a lot of explaining to do as to why one specific piece of legislation hasn't moved anywhere and congresswoman debbie wasserman schultz introduced legislation to
11:43 pm
rename a room in the capitol building after gave zimmerman gave was the congressional aide who was killed while trying to save congresswoman gabrielle giffords in the tucson shooting are sure he was the first congressional aide ever killed in the line of duty in the history of our nation the bill has three hundred sixty six co-sponsors but is not a voter go and no one can explain why the have imposed as majority leader eric cantor a guy in his office directed questions to speaker john boehner his office which declined comment i guess republicans are just too busy with their war on women and the e.p.a. rolls to visit any post offices after reagan to honor a hero. who was killed and just happens to be a democrat at spirit here. is

that even holloway yes but at least here on the east coast cold and flu season is already upon us people have come up with remedies in the never ending battle with germs that are inevitably send any of us shivering under the covers for a few days out of the year but back in one hundred thirty five before we had penicillin or modern antibiotics two doctors at st mary's hospital medical school in london succeeded in treating pneumonia with injections of. olive oil actor's freezer and walsh and molson five the oil and the and then injected it into the veins of pneumonia patients a high temperature of pneumonia patients dropped to normal within twenty four hours of receiving the injections and three weeks later the patients were back to normal the doctors concluded that the olive oil injections work because the oil was very effective at absorbing but the monia or other toxins circulating in the blood because the oil globules attracted and sopped up the toxins and they that me also
11:45 pm
add a little crazy and dangerous but this week a researcher at harvard university said that the oil remedy actually made sense and specifically for that time and place are those are the days before antibiotics were discovered so it was not uncommon for people to die of pneumonia what was left untreated in fact in one year was the leading cause of death in the united states nearly one thousand hundreds of harvard stopped all ski wrote the book pneumonia before antibiotics so that the olive oil therapy had some solid scientific roots ciro therapy treatment by the one nine hundred thirty s. involved injecting animal derived antibodies to a specific strain of bacteria to people the tactic required some level of immunological know like wise the idea of using oil to suck up nasty bacterial by products for detoxification in the liver depended on an elevated understanding of how the body fights and clears invaders and it's probably not just a coincidence that alexander fleming the scientist who discovered the penicillin
11:46 pm
mold work just down the hall from frazier and walsh at st mary's hospital medical school back about that time now where's that salad with olive oil just. coming up it seems democrats and the gang of twelve have forgotten something. that still exist. what drives the world the fear mongering used by politicians who makes decisions to break through it through to the point made who can you trust no one who is you know view with a global missionary zeal where we had a state controlled capitalism is called session so when nobody dares to ask we do our tea question more.
11:47 pm
your take my take in the segment of the show when we answer your questions comments criticisms and opinions here on the big picture our first comments and ideas from the thom hartmann page on facebook picky wrote it's quite apparent that the republican party are not americans anymore as showing us they do not care at all about the people who put them in office to do a job that they're not doing how do they think we're going to get elected again or
11:48 pm
is the voting fixed again well because the republicans have made it very clear that they're focused on politics first and serving the best interests of americans a very far second they say that their main priority right now and they come right out and say this is to make sure the president obama doesn't get elected to a second term and they're doing everything within their power to blame all of our current political and economic struggles on president obama even though it's their obstructionist behavior in congress this time in the president's hands and preventing any legislation from past particularly legislation like create jobs whatever mandate the american people may have given them in last year's congressional elections disappears every time they shoot down another piece of legislation they could be putting people back to work but they still have the support of their super rich and corporate backers want to make sure that their interests are protected on capitol hill but now as the ninety nine percent movement
11:49 pm
is showing it's a force to be reckoned with we're going to start answering to we the people as well earlier this week i asked you to imagine a world without fox so-called news also known as g o p t v it seems like that daily take. it hit home with many of you especially on our facebook page michael wrote it's like saying imagine a world without read selfishness and war for if the world was totally devolved boid of these three behaviors would be totally there for anyone to watch fox news and your posted let's get a little real here fox news is not the only station promoting fear and hatred they are just the ones doing it out the open c.n.n. as have you see all the local mainstream channels do a great job of promoting everything that is wrong with the current political discourse trisha said i would love it my family are all victims of their propaganda it's so sad to see once thinking adults talk and soundbites maria agreed that i
11:50 pm
would love to shut down the fox forever i'm strong believer that we need to versity for our survival and i'm one hundred percent sure that we can all live without fox lies and propaganda that world would be much better without a network where the whole concept is based on exploitation of less fortunate people nini share this advice i write it right around with a bumper sticker that says box news is bad news for america turn it off today it's a grid and finally adam said i can dream that big. ok well here's my take on i really don't personally have a problem with fox news and doing what they do if only they would stop calling it new fox's regionally conceived back in one nine hundred seventy two memo to richard nixon from roger ailes who is currently the president fox news said and at that time was working for nixon suggesting that the white house had some rich republicans to fund what roger ailes called g.o.p. t.v.
11:51 pm
to put out republican talking points under the guise of a new us i make no pretense that what i'm doing is not is news it's not and spin i'm pretty blunt with my opinions and my opinion is that any network that has the word news as part of its name and particularly the claims to be fair and balanced when in fact it's a g.o.p. t.v. and it's not a positive thing for america that's it for your take my take tonight if you like your comments and questions for it on this segment a picture of the big picture listen up. i. hit zero zero democrats need to take a good long look in the mirror because many of them seem to have forgotten just who the heck they are yesterday the six democrats on the gang of twelve super committee
11:52 pm
introduce their first proposal as first offer a starting point for negotiations to go she asians of the republicans over the next month and in it they proposed cutting four hundred billion dollars from medicare that's a four hundred billion dollars cut from medicare the program democrats created. the program the democrats fought hard against republicans like ronald reagan who even voiced a thirty three hour play a recording heard by millions of americans the a.m.a. sent off on the country suggesting that medicare would put us on the road to a soviet style of socialism that's a four hundred billion dollars cut for medicare a program that seventy eight percent of americans want left alone and that's a four hundred billion dollars cut from medicare it's only going to get worse
11:53 pm
because again this is the first offer on the table from the democrats on the can as well so once the republicans start negotiating it's a safe bet i think that that number is going to get bigger and bigger and bigger which begs the question why on earth would democrats put their second most prized creation and social security on the table for sacrifice when everyone knows that the republicans are going to compromise on raising taxes on millionaires and billionaires no matter what the democrats offer and democrats not yet learned their lesson you know why the republican base can't get excited about mitt romney because he's a flip flopper he doesn't stand for anything he does what's easy he does what he needs to do to get a few votes or cut a deal or a couple years ago the c pap conference i do my radio show from there over your head for five years they were walking around there was
11:54 pm
a flip or somebody dressed up like flipper the dolphin and people were hanging off flipping you know the answer ironically republicans and democrats for some reason are acting like a bunch of mitt romney's they're willing to ditch the party's principles in the hope that they can strike some kind of deal with republicans. some kind of backroom deal which they might. get a tiny morsel but what they're looking for other republicans as john boehner famously bragged after their last negotiations he said he got ninety eight percent of what he wanted democrats this is a losing strategy the american people don't want compromisers they want someone who sticks to their guns who believes in something and is willing to fight for it for example americans might have hated bush's policies or at least many americans but they like his swagger or at least his convictions are the appearance of the same
11:55 pm
was true of reagan and f.d.r. and harry truman you may have disagreed with them and a lot of people did vehemently. you always knew where they stood the american people have aggressively embraced the progressives have fought to bring to this nation over the last century from teddy roosevelt square deal to franklin roosevelt's new deal to lyndon johnson's great society seventy eight percent of americans oppose cutting medicare a program created by democrats seventy three percent of americans oppose cutting medicaid another program created by democrats sixty two percent of americans oppose any kind of cuts to social security another program created by democrats sixty seven percent of americans oppose cutting off unemployment insurance another program created by democrats let republicans run on their desire to cut
11:56 pm
these programs what a moron you try to run on handing over social security to wall street banks toure's any medicare over to for profit health insurance executives because they can't win at least not as long as democrats don't give in. and offer cuts up themselves like the six democrats in the game of twelve just it it's really simple democrats want to act like there's no difference between done and republicans what's the point of even having two parties as legend has harry truman saying people don't want to follow any democrat if it's a choice between a genuine republican a republican a democrat or clothing you will choose the genuine article over time it's time for democrats to stand up and be proud of what they've created over the last hundred years in america and to fight to defend these programs from this unprecedented
11:57 pm
attack against them by the republican party democrats may not win this debate but that's fine at least the american people will start realizing that one party is fighting for them again and if they keep doing it if they keep standing up for something and fighting like democrats then of that eventually the electoral victories will come as they did when harry truman took on the republican do nothing congress in one thousand nine hundred eighty eight and democrats took and held of a jordi in the house of representatives for the next forty six years harry truman laid out the message everybody heard it everybody got it but democrats held the congress for the next forty six years after he truman said this. the reason is that the people know that the democratic party is the people's party and publican party is the party of special interests and oh as has been and always will be.
11:58 pm
it's time for democrats to wake up and remember that they are the party of the ninety nine percent and the republican party is and always has been the party of the one percent always has been and always will. that's the big picture for tonight for more information on the stories we covered visit our website it's on arbonne dot com free speech dot org dot com also check out our you tube channels the ranks of thom hartmann dot com its entire show is also available as a free video podcast on i tunes and we have a free time have an i phone i pad app in the app store it's honest feedback and twitter a time others who are both on facebook at time underscore on our blogs message boards and telephone comment line it's top party. and no forget democracy begins with you get out there get active occupy something your it says.
