and they were able to watch the performances bowl cost on t.v. big screen fare so everyone come outside to watch that every day marking a spectacular and what's been a simply magically made all the most special of course because everyone was able to be involved it was sourced huge amount of people turning out we were speaking to some of the people in the crowd they were telling us just how special the bolshoi theater is to the i think it's a temple yes cofa grower for classic them so i'm corey grow from the. story respect. for. the pleasure to see this. alive yes i'm very him to be here during the opening coba show is the history of my country and it's the thrill of my life and i'm very happy and so if i can participate in this really has been a very special evening in the dating back to save times the polish it was a means of providing high culture to people at affordable prices everyone's

extremely excited to see it back in dallas is once again taking to the stage and we've seen the film and system at taking us through the ages of the bolshoi productions because productions fragments of productions from nine hundred fifty a performance of prince ego to the more famous ones such as tyco speech swan lake what we saw the photos prima ballerina. of it taking to the stage breathtaking to watch it out in this beautiful as if slightly chilly evening in most everyone just really got to be involved in the fullness as well of course treading the boards for the first time in six years it's been a long time in the coming but certainly the way to the end of the evening on the big screen we had tributes from some of the late great performers at the bolshoi they were talking about they're interested ation for the form of entering the poster informing that would also be seen from spectacular. the moment here tonight

. and two was seen as fantastic for need faith in the post race history the push his back is doing what it always did best and not capturing the imagination in the attention of people around the world. furthur enjoying what was happening outside the country who's one of the lucky few to make it inside the bolshoi for the performance you know details how the ground theater made its way back to the forefront of russia's cultural stage. that's the kirkby one top of the first time in six years it rebuilds have run of ation that ranks as the most meticulous and expensive in the theaters a strange and it was impressive because in the first place it was renovated according to the original vision of the tsars self but the room on a dynasty all hammer and sickle emblems were replaced with the original symbol of czarist russia the double headed to eagle that no detail was considered as to
5:04 pm
expensive or challenging and the least of those invited to come to russia to come to the bolshoi in this first night was very impressive among the guests was sold the hello goodbye chill for the has of the last skull of peter the vienna oprah house covent garden i was still in the third of a day on the way here shortly before the big gala concert started with hotel with tell an actress money could be lucci it was her first time at the bolshoi theater but not the first time in russia. so. here i sit. on your. bike to. see her. and see. the russian church. see the time that i think here and i.
5:05 pm
think i think that some people this is. a truly impressive red carpet event for russia and for russian theater lovers and you know as the curtain came down the cheers of bravo from outside could be heard ringing inside the renovated restored bolshoi. the antiwar street protesters plan to intensify their campaign by heading your system where it hurts and stage a walkout next wednesday so for now the heavy place cry. down at one of the peaceful protests video of an iraq war veteran big seriously injured in oakland went viral campaign is resolved let's talk more about this now with david korten he's also of the when will the world david thanks for being on our seats and i this group called iraq veterans against the war claiming it was the police that threw a heavy object maybe a gas canister i think hit scott olsen his head there's what happened in oakland show the police out of control do you think.
5:06 pm
well the police are actually in a very difficult position and they're all they're kind of caught between the the establishment that feels them and you know occasionally there are acts of. violence from the from the protest but those come from a fringe element the clearly the the bulk of the protesters are deeply committed to nonviolence which is extremely important and i think the police sometimes fail to recognize that when they attack. non-violent protesters it really exposes the corruption of the system and the fact that the police also mostly are orfield and to protect the one percent and not to protect the free speech rights of the rest of us david i guess that you know it actually it actually draws more people more support for the protest and i guess as this goes on times they get more and more
5:07 pm
frayed now about you know what the best intentions are also because there's reports suggesting many people in oakland are now calling for the city's mayor to step down after this incident you think it's going to escalate further. well you know my focus is not on individual oakland protest i'm much more concerned about the big picture and my excitement about the protests is the fact that they are finally drawing attention to the fact that we have an economy actually not only in the united states but in the world that is predominantly working for the for the one percent of people who control the financial system it is not working well for the for the ninety nine percent and we've had you know we've had so much conversation in the united states fueled by corporate media focusing attention on the problem of this obama or the problem of the government. skipping over the fact that we have wall street has created an economy that is devoted primarily to making
5:08 pm
money for rich people through playing financial games and that we have to we have to address that issue. you know people are complaining that the occupy wall street people don't have clear demands it's actually quite clear what they want they want their economy back they want their government back they want their future back and they actually want a country that operates by principles of true democracy and real markets which which work for everyone all well and good so i don't get too distracted by individual incidents and open sources like delay on the line there so it's a lot of you that david you know it's all very well and good that but it's into week six now and other actually making any headway. well six weeks of the very short time this is you know this is part of a very very deep deep frustration what it does is it points attention at the real
5:09 pm
source of the pain that people are feeling across the united states in the world and it opens a space for a conversation about what is the purpose of the economy who's the economy working for why what do we need to do to create an economy that actually works for everyone this is this isn't a conversation that we should have been having many years ago and surely it's a conversation that should have been provoked or stimulated by the the wall street crash in two thousand and eight in fact it wasn't the corporate media was managed to deflect attention in other directions with the wall street occupy wall street protests are are really pointing the finger where it belongs and opening that conversation now you know it actually took you know it took thirty years for the wall street forces to create the devastation that they have created. be corrected

six weeks david what it's seven years this is two thousand and eleven we saw what arab spring we've see basically a european if you want to talk about events in athens and london and american old some of you think heading for a wide when some of these global protests are going to branch out even even further do you think. well i think it's very interesting that here in the country that where we pride ourselves on being the birthplace of modern democracy that the inspiration for these protests is in part coming from the arab spring. but i do so they could it is very significant that. good people all around the world are are organizing feeling a sense of solidarity and actually demanding. demanding real democracy depend on demanding accountability from their governments but also particularly the wall street protests going attention to the fact that our one of our major barriers to
5:11 pm
true democracy is the abuse of the financial power of wall street to buy and control our politicians and to bias the rules in favor of supporting wall street speculation bailing out banks rather than bailing out people where we need a fundamentally different set of economic policies that are focused on building main street economies that actually work by true market principles and. getting true democracy that's based on one person one vote rather than one wall street dollar one vote david thanks ever so much david corn also of the book when corporations rule the world. is still kind of gadhafi is most influential son saif an islamist led to need and he's looking now to hand himself over to the war crimes court prosecutors say they're in talks to bring him in but what's keeping western leaders nervous is that saif could then spill the beans on the recent belge deals that made with this saw this bennett reports. to some moammar gadhafi was

a man who knew too much secrets which will supposedly be buried with him i think that there were tremendous sighs of relief all over capitals in western europe this is somebody who cut all sorts of deals with the french but also the british and the italians and to a certain extent the americans as well i think they did not want him put on trial for any reason and i am not surprised that he was captured alive and he very quickly ended up dead gadhafi returned from diplomatic exile was spectacular hugs handshakes and kisses from the heads of countries which denounced him good after he's now silenced but the suspicion around those who laid out the welcome mat is far from buried i don't feel as though his gritty you see this with but the. dealing with him is constant and it. will go away precisely because the

know. what it is darby. with. some details of the murky dealings have already emerged claiming the reputation of one of britain's leading universities the london school of economics agreed to contract with the good acting regime worth over two million pounds to educate hundreds of its future civil servants the director was forced to resign and now the university of tripoli is demanding the money back french leader nicolas sarkozy was never shy in creating good daffy even letting him pitches tend to nearly say palace apparently for bankrolling sarkozy's path to the presidency so says this man the one who could still tell all that cause he had never had sarkozy must give back the money he took from libya to finance his electoral campaign we funded it and we have all the details and are ready to reveal everything. saif al islam gadhafi son and key right hand man reportedly ready to surrender to the war crimes court saif is

going to have low information and now i think we're so eve that tony blair intervened formed to help him get his dodgy ph d. degree from the london school of economics when. degree apparently was plagiarized there's a lot of things that have gone on there so you knows about saif gadhafi is wanted to answer for his own actions in libya is drawn out battle for control but it's what he could reveal about the diplomatic deals with his father is keeping the western power players sweating after bennett r.t. london. syrian opposition activists are urging protesters to rally for a no fly zone over the country thirty seven people reportedly killed by security forces in friday's anti-government protests with u.n. figures suggesting over three thousand have died since troubles began seven months ago brodbeck of the answer antiwar coalition told me believes the demands of the opposition may inflict a disastrous war on the country. and we're using the same lingo the same scenario
5:16 pm
the syrian opposition is borrowing a page from the playbook for libya they know that they can come to power only with the advance with the support with the intervention through multiple means of the nato powers of the western powers and i think what we can tell the syrian people is look at what happened in libya the issue of a no fly zone sounds like go a way to defend civilians it's really a way to begin the war to begin military operations against the syrian air force or air defenses and i think the first step and this is the plan of the obama administration is not direct military intervention but to promote a civil war inside of syria i think they realize that the syrian government is substantially stronger militarily and within the arab world as compared to khadafi but they can use the human beings who have grievances valid or not to be the human material for
