leaders of the world's biggest economies meet for a g. twenty summit where center stage is taken by the euro crisis now intensifying i'd agree decision to hold a bailout referendum. russian businessmen viktor booth found guilty of arms trafficking by a us jury facing body in jail but he keeps claiming he's innocent. and. the first casualty of social unrest in the us a protester dies after being struck by a car during a massive anti-corporate rally you know when california that led to the book blocking of one of the u.s. major seaports.

am in moscow i match reza good to have you with us here on r t our top story leaders of the world's twenty biggest economies about to meet in france during a shaky time eurozone trembling after greece's shocking announcement that it will hold a referendum on the euro bailout plans as artie's nice in our reports from cannes the summit could become the scene of a major standoff. it's your crowds versus euro skeptics at this year's g. twenty basically they can summit has been hijacked like this euro crisis after the greek prime minister dropped a bombshell saying that his country would hold a referendum on whether or not to make cuts and accept this latest batch of bail outs being pushed by germany and france well good greek prime minister was some mention told by anglo merkel nicolas sarkozy the host of this year's summit of the i.m.f. and the european central bank that basically the country needs to play by their
12:02 am
rules or get out of the euro zone saying that his decision to hold this referendum was unilateral either to change the psychological situation of the euro crisis but some of the analysts we've been speaking to say in a very sarcastic way will got through big the greek people should be the ones to just find the fate of their country perish the thought of the people who are the victims of the various so-called rescue packages that the e.u. and the i.m.f. and the e.c.b. of cooked up for the last eighteen months or so perish the thought that they should be allowed to decide whether they want big things well some still think no matter what the outcome here in cannes that for greece the outcome in the end will be the same i believe that the greeks will be forced into accepting whatever stereo measures or whatever below packages are dropped in their laps via brussels and the g twenty the emerging economies were meeting of course at this year's g. twenty including russia have been saying for years that the financial system has to
12:03 am
be completely remodelled of course in a global sense now we have people in america in europe across the world coming out and lying to their leaders that something needs to be changed so certainly today we will be hearing some criticism perhaps of these emerging economies of course are a big part of the g. twenty other perhaps not hearing their voices as much as the g. seven the g twenty of course created at the height of the. two thousand and eight financial crisis solve global economic problems but the questions being asked what has changed and will give voices of these emerging economies this time around reporting from can at least in our hearts. so hopes are on a high among euro zone leaders are emerging economies including china will help the struggling bloc for more on how beijing could help and what it may want to return i'm joined by beijing based correspondent shouted. thank you very much for joining us so the question of how you know over greece and the whole euro zone trying it
12:04 am
doesn't seem to be in too much of a hurry to help but he's been using it anyway willing to get involved. well the answer is a bit max china does seem reluctant to halt the news agency says that china will not be a savior for the euro zone and so far chinese leaders that. the head of the bailout time came to china last week asking for help the response from chinese leaders has been thinking more clarity on european plans to solve its economic crisis before it gets involved at the same time china's economy is an extra and extensively linked to the european economy into the global financial system and china's economy is dependent on europe buying exports from china and also a large portion of china's china's currency reserves are in the euro so china it's not in china's interest to see europe's economy fail or decline and that of course this is part of this discussion as well as foreign ministry spokesperson here in china this week said china will always be an important investor and european
12:05 am
financial market so we have to wait and see so if anyone wants to put their money into something they're going to want some kind of return on their investment what kind of return do you think china will be looking to get from putting its money into europe. now looks like china will likely be asking for some major concessions one route for china's funding of the bailout fund would go through the i am not sure and i am not fines and i am i for a story please been dominated by the united states and european powers and developing countries have long argued for greater voting power and more of a voice in the i.m.f. so it's possible that china would demand greater voting powers within the i.m.f. for having its money go through the i'm out to the euro zone so that's one thing and that of course would diminish the influence of western powers and not and not find another thing that china may ask for is greater opportunities for foreign direct investment into europe and i that means essentially buying companies technology companies and so on and europe and the us so china will i think
12:06 am
if china decides to help the euro zone in a crisis china will use every bit of its leverage that it can and if trying to decide to do this it will certainly boost the country's already growing influence in europe how do you think europe's dependence on the go. well right now china has all the money and as one analyst put it china is right now the banker to the world so it has the money and has the power and and of course the european powers the sarkozy and others they want to increase the of the amount of funds in the n.t. and european bailout fund by a quite a bit and so it's hard to do that it's hard to rectify these problems in the european economy without china's help so china's influence is only such a grow and i think what we're seeing right now is you're seeing europe and united states and a state of crisis because of the forces of globalization and perhaps on the and
12:07 am
a larger scale you're seeing a shift of power and a shift and influence both economic power and political influence to the east and to china you know aside from the upper classes in the ruling management didn't know what kind of reaction do you think there could be from the chinese people are they aware of what's going on and what kind of response you think there could be from ben in return for their governor in turn to their government's investment possible investment in europe. it seems like the middle classes the educated classes are aware of what's going on and these debates and so far there's fierce opposition to china bailing out europe basically here china has its own set of problems high inflation a growing gap between rich and poor there's a tremendous lack of social services here at the health care system is or not there's a lack of funding for education so the reaction of many chinese as before we bail out europe let's focus on our own problems to masticate let's spend whatever extra money we have here and say and even online on wave one some of these chinese
12:08 am
internet sites users have accused the europeans of being lazy and that there's no real reason that china after all of its hard work in developing its economy over the last twenty or thirty years should be responsible for bailing out other countries that these that some of these chinese feel have been irresponsible and their fiscal and economic policies so there's a lot of opposition to methe sickly and also china of course of the next several months is facing a slow a slowdown on its economy and that adds pressure and china has a lot of problems of its own to deal with so right now domestically there's a tremendous tremendous amount of opposition to china helping out europe already regime because journalists are you very much for joining us. stay with us here on araa to you later today max kaiser is going to see herbert discuss whether some musical legends might be better suited to the job of fixing the financial turmoil and bankers and politicians. john lennon and yoko ono were actually watching the kaiser report during their famous bed in in one thousand

nine hundred sixty nine and you see you know this is a unique perspective not very many people look at that shot from that time but as you can see they were also saying all we are saying is let the banks fail and kaiser karma at the time nobody thought to look at the full three sixty you have that shot exactly to look at some of the posters on the wall like make love not dead now suddenly in the air twenty eleven john and yoko were clear why and they saw john was a visionary he saw the future he knew it was coming. russian businessman victor boots been found guilty of trafficking arms to terrorists by a new york jury he was arrested in thailand three years ago later after several attempts by the u.s. to extradite him in two thousand and ten or he's married to porton i was the latest . just one day after deliberations began
12:10 am
a jury of twelve handed down that verdict and the verdict is that they found a russian businessman businessman victor boot guilty on all the charges that were leveraged against him by the united states and those charges include conspiring to kill americans are conspiring to kill u.s. officials trafficking rockets and also he was charged with supplying arms to the revolutionary armed forces of colombia an organization the united states deems as terrorists now this this trial of victor boot went on for about three weeks but his presence here in the united states has garnered a lot of attention as we've been reporting the u.s. fought very hard to get victor victor boot extradited from thailand to the u.s. over a year ago but that fight was was taking place since mr boot was arrested during a sting operation in thailand in march two thousand and eight. has pled not guilty
12:11 am
on all the charges and he still maintains his innocence his attorney albert dyan did speak to the press following today's events that took place in court and that this is not the end that he still has a chance that we have a chance to will again we can appeal to those judge. that the verdict was rendered against the we will be evidence of that we can also proceed to the united states court of appeals but we are disappointed at the scrutiny now that he's been found guilty on these charges he faces a sentence of anywhere between twenty five years and life in prison george map an investigative journalist who attended the hearings says who was too shocked to react to the news. the case against people who for all practical purposes it is case closed. albert diane after the jury was dismissed and victor boot is stood there basically seen as it is as if he was in shock he he didn't we act whatsoever
12:12 am
in any way as that as if he was lifeless he didn't even turn around to face anybody and he does this kind of you know it was basically nonexistent so albert diane did file a motion for a new trial i believe on this summer a second however the d.n.a. operation relentless was you know targets of subic the book by any means necessary and it may through millions of dollars and it was it was done on several different continents and they had d.n.a. informant highly paid the a informants dea agents and coconspirators so once they have them here now it is almost impossible that i think you know he'll ever leave the united states. russia has repeatedly criticized extradition from thailand to the u.s. calling it extreme injustice but already u.s. law it's possible to have ducked anyone get him to be a threat according to international extradition the way or douglas mcnabb. there is
12:13 am
u.s. supreme court of course are you going to it is ok for a federal agent to go into a foreign country in contravention of that foreign country's law kidnap an individual and bringing him to the u.s. will be u.s. . prepared individual was kidnapped in contravention of local while those is not the places to have the indictment was reached i see. potentially issues could be raised with regard to the appeal i'm not hopeful that pows who are going to be successful issues given the state of the u.s. supreme court for people with regard to extradition i think or beyond. stay with us here on r t still to come plans to target gang violence get a mixed response in the u.k. . it's commonplace looking at the little causes of riots. and look at why many are critical of the proposal to make youth club leaders

members and monitor their messages as a way to prevent street riots. and the internet the criminal court in the hague will probe nato bombings in libya over allegations of war crimes. turning out of the u.s. all eyes on oakland where anti-corporate protests see their first casualty after a young man was hit by a car thousands took to the streets in the california city and shut down operations of one of america's major ports is follows last week's violent police dispersal of the demonstrators camp that resulted in a former u.s. marine being severely injured our correspondent lucy cavanagh has this report from oakland. we're here in downtown oakland the scene of the occupy oakland to wall street protests that talk a little bit out of hand as you can see right here behind me the wells fargo bank branch with the scene of one of the protests at this specific area obviously the windows got smashed out we were talking to some of the witness this they they saw
12:15 am
several people a lot of faces were wrapped in black sort of scarves their faces were hidden in stark contrast really to the behavior of the occupy wall street protesters for the most part carrying downtown oakland we have not seen this kind of destruction of property and now it was quite interesting actually to see some of the witness this sort of disagreeing about these tactics you know and the destruction of the means of wealth the property is this something that could perhaps a big gain greater attention to the cause or something that gives the protesters a bad name something that on the face of the movement it says is now the movement is about it's about freedom and peace and equality and a few an artist behind all this is the same people trying to smash the whole foods but this is not a move it's about it's about returning and stopping the thievery sabi the corporatocracy and changing this this is a nasty side effect that might have to happen for there to be change that's all i'm saying but this is not the face of the movement and there are literally thousands of people here in downtown oakland today for the most part again these protests have been very peaceful people who are marching in the streets singing campaigning
12:16 am
and holding up signs and banners but again on occasion we do see wreckage like this here at the wells fargo bank which was smashed open by a small select group of protesters not the kind of behavior we see in across oklahoma but something that we definitely just stumbled upon here today for our chief from oakland i'm lucy coughing up and lucy has now made it to the port of software she continues updating us with the latest developments by her twitter feed you can check it out for more news he was told from the events in oakland if you look at her latest tweets she's saying that there was a shouting match as protesters surrounded. her she said they would let anybody pass that she and her team had to hitch a ride with a local news crew from c.b.s. in order to get through and feed back some of their video to us here in moscow she said as the protesters surrounded her bed they were voting on whether to let her pass or not she says there was a lot of uncertainty going on there we continue following the dramatic events in

oakland dilutions twitter feed and our reach we are key underscores com we're going to take a look at some live pictures now of what's happening in oakland california you can see that crowds are milling around there i was trucks and vehicles are trying to make their way slowly through the crowd and there was as we have reported one casualty back was the result of a car plowing into a protester and so they're obviously trying to be very careful about what goes on among the crowds there you can see that first white truck going through is a live truck from a news vehicle some of the vehicles trying to get through there so this demonstration has shut down all of the operations of one of america's busiest ports that is in oakland california disrupting business in this city protesters discontent with economic inequality further fueled by the last week's violent dispersal of demonstrators in oakland that left a former u.s. marine severely injured stay with us here on our team will continue updating you on

the events in oakland and in the other occupy protests in the u.s. and around the world here on r.t. . turning though to other news now the u.k. still desperately searching for a cure to spreading gang culture after the summer riots among the latest proposals a suggestion to make youth workers spy on their members including message monitoring but authorities laura smith reports the strategy could only cause total isolation for potential troublemakers. the reality of life in east london young teens take part in a workshop on parent violence but the government laying the blame for august riots firmly at the door of gangs one london council is talking about making youth workers on their members and monitor their social network activities and i think suspicious would be passed to a special anti gang unit but the m.p. for hackney where some of the worst and rest place says it's not the technology to

play in across this country the club there was no internet in those. text messages so it is not so you know time of the real causes of riots rather than. the messenger and there's a real possibility it will backfire for some young people that use the club is a safe haven in a world that message monitoring could undermine the impatient relationship between us and bugger all teen making it less likely to turn to them in a crisis and more susceptible to getting overtures and outside at least crying and violence now as has been working at this youth center in east london for two years young people spend time in a relaxed environment and eventually he gets to know them and see when they're in trouble he says money would be better spent looking at those who are already in gangs going to spend it to spend with their grades educating women will plug in the

gang members and spend the money with going them is going to change their gang members so that's why this has been one on one tree problems during the riots social networks like twitter and blackberry messenger were used by rioters to pinpoint the next location in march for destruction the government went to far as proposing shutting down the services while two men were jailed for four years each for inciting writing on facebook but teens. say spying risks isolating the very people they're trying to help if that happens then people will be able to use the stuff those things that are undoubtedly social issues and solving them requires walking a fine line between coming down hard on troublemakers and preserving civil liberties for everyone but it's clear that this measure which would cost hundreds of thousands of pounds to enforce could also cost the trust and will have the same
