plans as artie's nice and now i reports from cabin the summit could become the scene of a major standoff. it's your promise versus euro skeptics at this year's g. twenty basically the camp summit has been hijacked by this euro crisis after the greek prime minister dropped a bombshell saying that his country would hold a referendum on whether or not to make cuts and except this latest batch of bailouts being pushed by germany and france well the greek prime minister was summoned and told by engler merkel nicolas sarkozy the host of this year's summit of the i.m.f. and the european central bank that basically the country needs to play by their rules or get out of the euro zone saying that his decision to hold this referendum was unilateral other to change the psychological situation of the euro crisis but some of the analysts we've been speaking to say that in a very sarcastic way it will got through bit the greek people should be the ones to just find the fate of their country perish the thought the people who are the
12:02 am
victims of the various so-called rescue packages that the e.u. and the i.m.f. and the e.c.b. of cooked up for the last eighteen months or so perish the thought that they should be allowed to decide whether they want these things while some still think no matter what the outcome here in cannes that for greece the outcome in the end will be all the same i believe that the greeks will be forced into accepting whatever sturdy measures or whatever bailout packages are dropped in their laps brussels and the g twenty the emerging economies were meeting of course at this year's g. twenty including russia have been saying for years that the financial system has to be completely remodelled of course in a global sense now we have people in america in europe france the world coming out and lying to their leaders that something needs to be changed so certainly today we will be hearing some criticism perhaps of these emerging economies of course are big part of the g. twenty perhaps not hearing their voices but as much as the g.
12:03 am
seven the g. twenty of course created at the height of the. two thousand and eight financial crisis solve global economic problems but the questions being asked what has changed and will the voices of these emerging economies this time around reporting from cannes and. so hopes are on a high among euro zone leaders are emerging economies including china will help the struggling bloc for more on how beijing could help and what it may want to return i'm joined by beijing based correspondent shouted. thank you very much for joining us so we could be question hanging over greece in the whole euro zone china doesn't seem to be in too much of a hurry to help but is beijing in any way willing to get involved. well the answer is a bit makes china does seem reluctant to halt the news agency says that china will not be a savior for the euro zone and so far chinese leaders after. the head of the bailout
12:04 am
plan came to china last week asking for help the response from chinese leaders is then they want more clarity on european plans to solve its economic crisis before it gets involved at the same time china's economy is an extra an extra completely linked to the european economy into the global financial system and china's economy is dependent on europe buying exports from china and also a large portion of china's china's currency reserves are in the euro so it's not a china's interest to see europe's economy fail or decline and that of course is part of this discussion as well of foreign ministry spokesperson here in china this week said china will always be an important investor and the european financial market so we have to wait and see so if anyone wants to put their money into something they're going to want some kind of return on their investment what kind of return do you think china will be looking to get from putting its money into europe. now looks like china will likely be asking for some major concessions one route for china's funding of the bailout fund would go through the i.m.f.
12:05 am
through an i.m.f. find now the i.m.f. historically has been dominated by the united states and european powers and developing. countries have long argued for greater voting power and more of a voice in the i.m.f. so it's possible that china would demand greater voting powers within the i.m.f. for having its money go through the i.m.f. to the euro zone and so that's one thing and that of course would diminish the influence of western powers in that and not find another thing that china may ask for is greater opportunities for foreign direct investment into europe and i that means sensually buying companies technology companies and so on and europe and in the west so china will i think if china decides to help out the help out the euro zone in a crisis china will use every bit of its leverage that it can and if trying to decide to do this it will certainly boost the country's already growing influence in europe how do you think europe's dependence on beijing could go.
12:06 am
well right now china has all the money and as one analyst put it china is right now the banker to the world so it has the money and has the power and and of course the european powers sarkozy and others they want to increase the the amount of funds in the end in the european bailout fund by a quite a beds and so it's hard to do that it's hard to rectify these problems in the european economy without china's help so china's influence is only such a grow and i think what we're seeing right now is you're seeing you're i've been in the united states and a state of crisis because of the forces of globalization and perhaps the and the larger scale you're seeing a shift of power and a shift and influence both economic power and political influence to the east center of china you know aside from the upper classes and the ruling management didn't know what kind of reaction do you think there could be from the chinese people are they aware of what's going on and what kind of response you think there could be from them in return to their government turn to their government's

investment possible investment in europe. that seems like a. the middle classes the educated classes are aware of what's going on and these debates and so far there is fierce opposition to china bailing out europe basically here trying to has its own set of problems high inflation a growing gap between rich and poor there's a tremendous lack of social services here the health care system as in the us there's a lack of funding for education so the reaction of many chinese as before we bail out europe let's focus on our own problems domestically let's spend whatever extra money we have here and even online on way beyond some of these chinese internet sites users have accused the europeans of being lazy and that there's no real reason that china after all of its hard work in developing its economy over the last twenty or thirty years should be responsible for bailing out other countries that these that some of these chinese feel have been irresponsible and their fiscal and economic policies so there's a lot of opposition to mathematically and also china of course over the next
12:08 am
several months is facing a slow a slowdown in its economy and that adds pressure and china has a lot of problems of its own to deal with so right now domestically there's a tremendous amount of opposition to china helping out europe all right beijing because journalists thank you very much for joining us. stay with us here on r.g.p. later today max kaiser and stacey herbert discuss whether some musical legends might be better suited to the job of fixing the financial turmoil than bankers and politicians. john lennon and yoko ono were actually watching the kaiser report during their famous bed in in one thousand nine hundred sixty nine and you see you know this is a unique perspective not very many people look at this shot from that time but as you can see they were also saying all we are saying is let the banks fail and kaiser karma at the time nobody thought to look at the full three sixty you have. to look at some of the posters on the wall like make love not now suddenly in the

year two thousand and eleven john. were clever buoyant they so john was a visionary he saw the future he knew it was coming. russian businessman viktor boots been found guilty of trafficking arms to terrorists by a new york jury he was arrested in thailand three years ago later after several attempts by the u.s. to extradite him in two thousand and ten artie's marina porton has the latest. just one day after deliberations began a jury of twelve handed down that verdict and the verdict is that they found russian business that businessman victor boot guilty on all the charges that were leveraged against him by the united states those charges include conspiring to kill americans are conspiring to kill u.s. officials trafficking rockets and also he was charged with supplying arms to the

revolutionary armed forces of colombia an organization the united states deems as terrorists now this this trial of victor boot went on for about three weeks but his presence here in the united states has garnered a lot of attention as we've been reporting the u.s. fought very hard to get victor victor boot extradited from thailand to the u.s. over a year ago but that fight was was taking place since mr who was arrested during a sting operation in thailand in march two thousand and eight. has pled not guilty on all the charges and he still maintains his innocence his attorney albert diane did speak to the press following today's events that took place in court so this is not the end that he still has a chance that we have a chance to will again we can appeal to this judge. that the verdict was rendered
12:11 am
against the weight of the evidence but that we could also proceed to the united states court of appeals but we are disappointed at this verdict now that he's been found guilty on these charges he faces a sentence of anywhere between twenty five years and life in prison george map an investigative journalist who attended the hearing says boo was too shocked to react to the news. the case against vick to boot for all practical purposes is case closed. albert diane after the jury was dismissed and victor boot just stood there basically seen as this is as if he was in shock he he didn't react whatsoever in any way as that as if he was lifeless he didn't even turn around. to face and the body and he just discount of you know it was basically nonexistent so albert diane did file a motion for a new trial i believe on december second however the d.a.

operation relentless was you know targets of pursue victor boot by any means necessary and they threw millions of dollars and there was it was done on several different continents and they had d.n.a. informant highly paid d.a. informants dea agents and coconspirators so once they have him here now it is almost impossible that i think you know he'll ever leave the united states russia has repeatedly criticized boozed extradition from thailand to the u.s. calling it extreme injustice but already u.s. law it's possible to have ducked anyone deemed to be a threat according to international extradition lawyer douglas mcnabb. there is u.s. supreme court a fourth but it is ok. to go into a foreign country and in contravention of that foreign country's law kidnap an individual and bring him to the u.s. to stand trial in the u.s. and the fact that that individual was kidnapped in contravention of local law does it is not the basis to have the indictment which i see. potentially
12:13 am
issues could be raised with regard to be appeal i'm not hopeful that those who are going to be successful issues given the state of the u.s. supreme court authority with regard to tradition i think we're beyond but. stay with us here on r t still to come plans to target gang violence get a mixed response in the u k. tommy but it's not looking at the milk is the riots well you couldn't blame the messenger we'll look at why many are critical of the proposal to make youth club leaders members and monitor their messages as a way to prevent street riots. and the internet a little criminal court in the hague will probe nato bombings in libya over allegations of war crimes. turning out of the u.s. all eyes on oakland where anti-corporate protests see their first casualty after a young man was hit by

a car thousands took to the streets in the california city and shut down operations of one of america's major ports is follows last week's violent police dispersal of the demonstrators camp that resulted in a former u.s. marine being severely injured our correspondent lucy cavanagh has this report from oakland. we're here in downtown oakland the scene of the occupy oakland and wall street protest that thought a little bit out of hand as you can see right here behind me the wells fargo bank branch was the scene of one of the protests at this specific area obviously the windows got smashed out we were talking to some of the witnesses they saw several people of faces were wrapped in a black sort of scarves their faces were heading in stark contrast really to the behavior of the occupy wall street protesters for the most part here in downtown oakland we have not seen this kind of destruction of property and mass and it was quite interesting actually to see some of the witnesses sort of disagreeing about these tactics you know the destruction of the means of wealth the property is this
12:15 am
something that could perhaps gain greater attention to the cause or something that gives the protesters a bad name something that on the face of the movement exactly is now with the movement is about it's about freedom and peace and equality and a few an artist like behind all this is the same people trying to smash the whole of foods but this is now the move it's about it's about returning and stopping the thievery stopping the corporatocracy and changing this this is a nasty side effect but it might have to happen for there to be change as i'm saying but this is not the face of the movement and there are literally thousands of people here in downtown oakland today for the most part again these protests have been very peaceful people were marching in the streets singing campaigning and holding up signs and banners but again on occasion we do see wreckage like this here at the wells fargo bank which was smashed open by a small select group of protesters not the kind of behavior we see in the process but something that we definitely just stumbled upon here today for our team from

oakland i'm lucy catherine of and lucy has now made it to the port of software she continues updating us with the latest developments by her twitter feed you can check it out for more news on your way to unfold from the events in oakland if you look at her latest tweets she's saying that there was a shouting match as protesters surrounded. hershey said they would let anybody pass and that she and her team had to hitch a ride with a local news crew from c.b.s. in order to get through and feed back some of their video to us here in moscow she said that as the protesters surrounded her that they were voting on whether to let her pass or not she says there was a lot of uncertainty going on there we continue following the dramatic events in oakland by aleutians twitter feed and our reach we underscore com we're going to take a look at some live pictures now of what's happening in oakland california you can see that crowds are milling around there as trucks and vehicles are trying to make their way slowly through the crowd and there was as we have reported one casualty
12:17 am
that was the result of a car plowing into a protester and so they're obviously trying to be very careful about what goes on among the crowd there you can see that first white truck going through is a live truck from a news vehicle some other vehicles trying to get through there so this demonstration has shut down all of the operations of one of america's busiest ports that is in oakland california disrupting business in this city protesters discontent with economic inequality further fueled by the last weeks violent dispersal of demonstrators in oakland that left a former u.s. marine severely injured stay with us here on r t will continue updating you on the events in oakland and in the other occupy protests in the u.s. and around the world here on r.t. . turning though to other news now the u.k. still desperately searching for a cure to spreading gang culture after the summer riots some of the latest proposals a suggestion to make youth workers spy on their members including message monitoring
12:18 am
but authorities laura smith reports the strategy could only cause total isolation for potential troublemakers. the reality of life in east london young teens take part in a workshop on gang violence with the government laying the blame for all ghosts riots firmly at the door of gangs one london council is talking about making youth workers spy on their members and monitor their social network activities and anything suspicious would be passed to a special anti gang unit but the m.p. for hackney west some of the worst on rest place says it's not the technology to blame when you had drugs in this country in the twelve when there was no internet. text message so it is not so that's you know time with the real causes of riots rather than blaming the messenger and that's the real possibility it will backfire for some young people being used to help is
12:19 am
a safe haven in the news and world and message monitoring could undermine the impatient relationship between you and phone or will change it making it less likely to turn to them in a crisis and more susceptible to guide. and ultimately crime and violence now as has been working at this youth center in east london for two years young people spend time in a relaxed environment and eventually he gets to know them and see when they're in trouble he says money would be better spent looking at those who are already in gangs they're going to spend it. with against him it's going member of unplugging the gang members and spend the money going them is going to change their gang members so that's why there's been one on one training. during the riots social networks like twitter and blackberry messenger were used by rioters to pinpoint the next location in market for destruction the government went to spar is proposing
12:20 am
shutting down the services while two men were jailed for four years each for inciting rioting on facebook but teen. say spying risks isolating the very people that trying to help if that happens done people will go to use these type of things that are undoubtedly social issues and solving them requires walking a fine line between coming down hard on troublemakers and preserving civil liberties for everyone but it's clear that this measure which would cost hundreds of thousands of pounds to enforce could also cost the trust and goodwill of the same risk you feel thora teases so concerned about. faulty london. at our web site r.t. dot com where there's plenty more on our top stories post video and analysis here's what's a click away right now. israeli military test fires a missile reportedly capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to any part of the middle east and that's far as europe.

you can build a democracy in six months or six years the americans and the british have been at it for eight hundred years and so now. that it's turning out to be a mistake that the islamists are in power in tunisia they're going to come to power in libya the media is running away from the story and on top of that american leaders are not unlike the leaders that were in moscow during soviet times they believe in the inevitability of democracy everywhere just is as marxism was it once believed to be inevitable and as a result there of setting power structures centuries old and they're going to pay for it by an increased power among islamists and by civil war in those countries. turning now to some other stories making headlines across the globe the arab league says syrian authorities have agreed to ease of a seven month political crisis in the country the proposal urges the government to remove tanks from the streets and turn to negotiations with the opposition within a fortnight it's the latest in a string of international efforts to halt the turmoil that's claimed around three thousand lives since march. in argentina a freight train slammed into
