10:01 pm
the greek prime minister george papandreou is holding talks to form a new government of national unity after surviving a crucial confidence vote in parliament he wants a new coalition to implement the deal with the eurozone and i.m.f. to slash the country's foreign debts in return for massive reforms and austerity cuts but he's plans have been rebuffed by the opposition leader who wants but been drilled to stand down. as all the details for us from. there's a lot of confusion about what that coalition government is going to look like that we still have is the passenger and his governments and by that court insulation in parliaments in the early hours of the morning it was very very close it was always going to be it was a week of decisions but no changes really everyone still waiting to see what the details of this will fade and as we said before the devil really is in the details and so a lot of uncertainty still remains about was going to happen now moving forward to help guide us a bit see this political quagmire i'm joined by. this professor of economics at
10:02 pm
athens university. it's very uncertain what's going to happen now can you tell us a bit more about what the politicians are doing and we've heard a lot of people saying they're playing political games can they afford to do that at such a critical point well the big picture is not what happened in greece is what happened yes the g twenty when they couldn't agree on anything so not agreeing on anything means that austerity packages will continue as the only policy coming out of the euro zone the pressure on. of the central issue center right because of the stereotype measures is that the leader of the right wing party wants quick elections so he could do well and not be implicated in any of the austerity packages we've had so far whereas cup and drove a leader of the center left party doesn't want quick elections because he's deeply implicated in these policies and wants a national government a government of national unity so that the responsibility for the austerity package
10:03 pm
is shared with if you will only say or there is one missing actor in this and that is the people of greece who have been demonstrating for the last six months from the street and really i see no solution that doesn't at least meet some of their demands for your spirit recession more austerity measures vicious cycle being removed somehow being. dented and political leaders actually addressing the social needs of the mass of people in this country and indeed of european people there really is a very valid point what a lot of people are talking about here today is that is the missing ingredient the public opinion here very very disappointed at the end i don't think yesterday at the what we seen playing out in the last week really as he said the message of uncertainty at a time when everyone was hoping for was a unified front for some decisive action and that's not what we're seeing it's all in of course moving forward the situation looking on increasingly unstable ground.
10:04 pm
and investment advisor patrick harris says the rest of the eurozone is feeding the hate of political fallout from greece as its government fails to bring the financial situation under control. the whole situation we have here is a pole little disaster area i realize we're talking about economics but the problem is as we've been hearing the greek politicians have decided to have an overall political argument and that's basically holding the rest of the euro zone around the sun this week we've had happened trying very very hard to sort of renegotiate in some way shape or form with the e.u. and the euro zone stood firm why because again it's politics mrs merkel can't afford to spend any more money or she won't get reelected mr sarkozy he needs to get results and he's just had a complete disaster of a g. twenty meeting where he promised so much and failed to deliver anything and therefore greece is now hanging on the end of a thread more or less dying to go over a cliff it's going to go bankrupt and it's probably going to take the euro zone
10:05 pm
with it and that really is a tragedy and i actually think for the rest of the euro zone it would be a lot better to throw out the rawest member of the night club at the moment and therefore hopefully everybody else will get back to their drinks and they will sit around and they will behave like good corporate citizens and acutely that means obviously italy because this is a big festering sore the problem of the italian government and its complete so far inability to manage to get its house in order. patrick hearing that and while greece crunchers around for cash a major u.s. based financial base to financial fund has lost a whopping seven hundred million dollars max keiser explains how the fund accounts responsible will still end up with the cream and to cover their losses if the whole banking system collapses. sellers of the insurance less credit default swap take the premium. immediately and they were never on the hold for any liabilities
10:06 pm
because they're causing systemic failure when the system collapses and they say we can't pay out because the system collapsed well what about the money you took selling the insurance against a stomach collapse we can't find it it was junk or zine it's in the shadow banking system where do they go it's like jackie mason is running the global system when i go i don't know what there's not going to believe gold was there or what day it was over there just maybe you got a bagel i got a schmidt i don't know what about what i don't know what you know what they don't know. and because the report coming up in about twenty five minutes here on r.t. tell me it's. the police crackdown aren't equal for demonstrations continues throughout the us with new arrests in boston and in washington d.c. offices used force to disperse the demonstration and remove protests tenants three accidents were knocked down by a car but the driver will soon charged in the kind of food in the city of oakland police unleashed tear gas grenades and batons on protesters and made over one
10:07 pm
hundred arrests several people were seriously injured including a u.s. army veteran of the second major violent clash involving police and protesters in the city in the first night meanwhile in new york where the occupy movement began protesters camped out in zuccotti park are bracing themselves for a showdown merino britain i went to find out all girl sources in the big apple have in store for them. the occupy wall street movement has cemented its presence here in zuccotti park for nearly. eight weeks but now many believe that the city will try to evacuate demonstrators under the pretext of crime new york city mayor michael bloomberg is now a fusing these optimists of the injuring the entire community saying they are failing to report crimes that are taking place here the activists here say that they try to police minor infractions but when it comes to very serious crime or violence these activists say they do take reports to the police some media outlets
10:08 pm
have also learned that it is actually new york city police officers some at least that have encouraged criminals and homeless people to come down to zuccotti park in an effort to stir up some trouble the n.y.p.d. has denied those accusations we did speak with a few of the hundreds of activists that are down here and here's what they had to say my experience has been that i have been safe here and i feel safe here well i think that you know the mayor is this thing being screwed crimes that aren't haven't been reported what are those crimes i do think the mayor is probably gearing up to make another attempt to. turn the park simply because someone walked into the park doesn't mean that they're part of the movement a lot of these out with that have been critical of us characterize anyone who is within you know a mile radius of this place as a protester and therefore reflective of our movement but as you can see anyone can come in here and that's fine you know we want to welcome people in but certainly
10:09 pm
because someone destructive doesn't mean they reflect what we're doing or that we promote what they're doing princeton professor and activist dr cornel west who has been a huge supporter of the occupation movement was down here in zuccotti park r.t. had a chance to catch up with him to get his thoughts on what mayor bloomberg has recently said just think you're own your own david trying to come up with a rationalization with another convincing reason do you think there's anything criminal about you know dangerous about this encampment right i think. resection a city that. would it is there with human community every human community. still supporting my god yes one hundred twenty overall though all the activists that we have spoken with today say they feel as safe today as they have felt since day one of these occupy wall street movement they say the momentum is growing bigger it's growing louder it's growing larger and they are here to stay
10:10 pm
reporting from wall street. r.t. . and our correspondent lisa catherine affairs also covering the occupy protests just ahead to our twitter stream from nor lisa was at the scene as police waiting to break down the latest protests in washington d.c. we'll go to her twitter feed for full coverage of the incident including photos and video. and one of the demands driving the occupy movement is an increased tax on the rich that could help bolster the u.s. budget a little later this hour find out what some new yorkers think about. as people get wealthier a higher percentage of the think they are going up until it certain point words as you get even wealthier you want even more. so laurie oftenest takes to the streets of the big apple to gauge public opinion so stay with i'll teach them all in just a few. miles to a bank transfer day across the u.s. cities have ended in dozens of arrests the campaign wants people to close accounts
10:11 pm
and move them to smaller institutions like credit unions and hopes that tens of thousands that will do so and who's behind the campaign says it will help to avoid the need for huge bond buying again. there's a lot of saber buts all over the country and united states we have credit unions federal credit unions and state credit unions they're great alternative they're connected to their community and really for folks to get out from under the foot of you know the big corporate banks that were responsible for ruin the economy and over the last you know fifteen years have consolidated power but guarantees are you know your money is just a safe in a federal credit union as it is anywhere else it's you know guaranteed by the u.s. government up to two hundred fifty thousand dollars and more importantly the money stays in your community the federal credit unions unlike banks are concerned about profits the profits are shared directly with the participants in the credit union so you don't have to worry about your banking fees going up to it to pay for some
10:12 pm
fat cats huge salary ultimately any profits a come back will come back to the members of the credit union and that's exactly what people want over the last month or so since september twenty ninth over six hundred fifty thousand people across the country are finding credit unions and they've moved their money that's a big billions and billions of dollars have moved to the american people at the worst of the recession propped up the big banks they were too big to fail so in a lot of ways people moving their money right now are making sure that these banks are going to be too big to fail again and that we are going to have to bail them out again. meanwhile in london dozens of protesters inspired by the u.s. on to corporation demonstrations were arrested as they marched through the city and laura smith lost after the occupy the london stock exchange protest is on the moon this saturday they have left that tented camp outside. and they've decided to march on westminster joining me round about two hundred people who are permanently camped
10:13 pm
out there at the moment around about another five hundred more bringing the total to just say to seven hundred people we think they are marching to be put to has to be said these people have a huge amount of energy that mostly young people for the both majority and they are saying that they are the ninety nine percent opposed to the one percent of people who own all the wealth and property in the country they are saying that they should be in charge that the bankers and the politicians have made such a mess of this country that they want to take charge and it certainly seems as if they have the energy to do you say they've been joined by politicians and also by people who have come specially from the ok to build street demonstration to take part in the london protests let's hear what just a couple of them had to say the issues that are being raised by the people demonstrating here today are issues that millions of people around the country care about issues like tax injustice the fact that the poorest and most vulnerable are being forced to pay the highest price for
10:14 pm
a crisis the bankers crisis that they had nothing to do with most of us are getting ripped off by the powers that be by corporate america or corporate whatever it is depending on which country we're in and very often it's corporate america even if we're not in the united states we're mobilizing though for a big strike on november thirtieth so i'm really hopeful that this movement is going to expand and eventually going to bring down the government these people are saying to the bankers and to the politicians have to go and they've been granted a stay of execution for that tented camps outside simple skiffy israel they will be allowed to stay until after christmas so we can expect many more of this type of demonstration. israel has begun to pushing procrustean activities from two humanitarian boats from canada and island that were blocked by the israeli navy on route to gaza with aid to vessels with dozens of foreign nationals from nine different countries on board that set sail from turkey on wednesday carrying medical supplies that were brought advisory naval forces and towed away similar protest vessels have been stormed in the past with nine turkish activists shot dead
10:15 pm
by israeli marines last year causing an international outcry and this comes as relations between israel and palestine have reached another blow this week with israel it will also rising its military to take whatever action necessary to stop the rocket fire from gaza despite some israeli concessions on they've located in the past year activists a wider iraq says the people of gaza still live in an open air prison. the problem that we have here is a humanitarian crisis but it is one that has been created by deliberate israeli policies so we need to change that policy so that palestinians are allowed to lead a normal life a dignified life and not have to live on handouts now the situation in gaza is that one point five million people live in an open air prison and as a result of deliberate israeli policy have been reduced to needing handouts eighty percent of the population of gaza is food aid dependent and that's a problem but it is a political problem and therefore these flotillas are going to challenge that
10:16 pm
policy of this inhumane blockade going to the united nations as a way of the palestinian leadership saying that we need the rights of the palestinian people respected and we've been through this mechanism we will have more avenues by which to hold israel responsible for continued violation of rights and that is something that should be supported by all because in the end all of these different countries are part of the united system the united nations that is supposed to maintain world peace and defend people's human rights but it seems that no action is taken in violation of palestinian human rights occurs and palestinians are looking for avenues by which to hold israel accountable. the un's atomic watchdog plans to reveal evidence next week suggesting iran made computer models of a nuclear warhead that's according to the associated press the report by the international atomic energy agency will also support immigrations that tehran has built a nuclear testing facility and says it will show satellite images to prove it iranian
10:17 pm
officials have condemned that occasions and called them a fabrication on friday the israeli president shimon peres said that there's not much time left to stop iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and he also implying that military action is now closer to reality than attempts at a diplomatic solution patrick hanks and just how the info was website as the west is just looking for an excuse to take action against iran must not talk could inflame the whole middle east region. well the report that's due to come out next week by the international atomic energy agency is basically saying that iran is reached a stage in its research where this is the precursor to a neighbor to an tomic bomb and what they've done is they've done research in to do to ride nuclear physics and also neutron physics ok and this is meant to be some sort of implicating crime that is going to allow the west to play sanctions on iran or to have weapons inspectors go in and search but this is research is being done
10:18 pm
all over the world in a lot of different countries university so if iran is guilty of doing this level of research then they'll have to put sanctions on about one hundred countries there's an issue of timing coming up the west wants to strike iran but it wants to do it at a time of its choosing and all they're doing is just reviving this whole new killer threat to the leak that came out of allegedly came out of the shin bet or mossad that there were already operational plans to have a preemptive strike against iran from israel that was leaked out benjamin netanyahu was absolutely flabbergasted and the hard line look at hard line we were really upset about this leak but thank god and i tip my hat to these people in israel who did leak this information because it's absolute madness if you look at the geopolitical situation right now in the region an attack on iran is going to basically put gasoline on a fire that is already reached incredible temperatures so it's it's not something we can afford. some other news from around the world the latest reports address at least to have been fifty people have been killed and over one hundred injured in
10:19 pm
a series of bomb and gun attacks in nigeria the radical muslim sect boko haram has said it was responsible for the hour long attack on several targets and has promised more in the future its assault on truck several targets including a police building and several churches on friday the same group also attacked a military headquarters in neighboring borno state with a triple suicide bombing. over a dozen of people are thought to have been killed in syria by tank shelling in the city of holmes it brings to one hundred the number of civilians reported dead in clashes with the government troops since just tuesday the bloodshed comes despite see where agreeing to sign up to an arab league plan to end violence in the country the international body has already warned that failure to implement the agreement will have disastrous consequences for the whole region. and seven people have been confirmed dead and fifty one injured in a huge crash involving thirty four vehicles on the m five motorway in south west of

england there sources expect the death toll to rise as they fear they may find more bodies in the wreckage the cause of the crash is not clear yet but police say there were forty conditions on their road surface was wet rescuers described the pileup as one of the worst ever information. the campaign to win seats in russia's lower house of parliament has started seven parties have until the beginning of december to woo voters with all their speeches and print media off he could see a number of children their surrogates all chances each party how. for the next thirty days old t.v. sets in russia will be talking politics politics and politics in other words but on another labor the rule of the people and socialism at the heart freedom solidarity and justice our free sanctuary laws some of the most storied going on is a party which stands for the poor and the russian national is on our banners future is with. banners educating for the top political parties had of the december vote

billion citizen is sent a ton of oranges from south africa has a rather juicy reward get a taste of that story at all. as the occupy protest movement grieves the u.s. for a second month opinions are divided over some of its aims and one of them is a tax hike for rich americans who demonstrators blame for the economic downturn there were a heart and it's also known as the resident has been on the streets of new york to see of the people who agree. the general public has been vilifying the very rich lately so what does the public consider too much money this week let's talk about that more than a million is too much money yeah if someone has more than
10:26 pm
a million should they pay more in taxes yes they absolutely said yes but i want too much money so i'm not going to answer. those ten million in two months to emerge for too much one when the limit when millions enough to have i would say if people make more than a million dollars and they have better in their bank account should they be forced to give back a more of their a moral and outs in general interestingly i saw once that the to answer the question do you have enough money to curve goes like this as your wealth increases so people who don't have a lot feel that they don't have enough as they as people get wealthier a higher percentage of the think they have it up until they pass certain point words as you get even wealthier you want even more so if you made ten million dollars i would give some of it away it's too much money are people that don't give it away and have that much in the wrong i guess it's a personal decision i just think that if you make that much money you could share

it with someone that doesn't have so much should they be forced to through taxes like they do in scandinavia maybe so because sometimes if you don't force someone to do something and are going to do it no matter how much wealth you consider to be obscene the bottom line is when it comes to money it's hard for anyone to not want just a little bit more. as the news this hour the back with a recap our top stories in just a few moments stay with.
