the creation of a landmark free trade zone dominated talks at this year's apec summit which brings together the leaders of asian and pacific rim countries barack obama hosted a get together in hawaii and met up with dmitri medvedev to churn over some pretty hot topics are to use on us to church kind of brings us more from honolulu. the final day of the apec summit is a two day gathering here in honolulu and this day's really bringing the most important meeting of the whole affair it's one of the twenty one economies get together to sit down around a big table round table for discussion on the topics that they're hearing that they're really here for is treat relationships between the twenty one economies the issues of lifting cost and barriers creating a healthier investment climate and really trying to reach an open and free trade zone by the year twenty twenty and that this is also a day when they get to mix the work with some fun this is when the leaders will be gathering for a photo op when the where the national costume so we're expecting the twenty one

leaders to wear some hawaiian shirts and this is really a fun occasion when they get to have a chat have a laugh other in the back and really give journalists an opportunity to decipher what all of their body language means and in other events today we're expecting a press conference from the russian president dmitry medvedev who will be summing up the events of the two days and of course next year it will be russia hosting the apec summit so this is certainly something that he is likely to address one of the key meetings of course was the bilateral talks between the russian and american presidents where they discussed like range of different issues but importantly one of them was russia's accession to the world trade organization of course russia has been having a desire to join to join the w t o since one thousand nine hundred three and it should this is something that should be finalized and russia should become a full fledged member by the summer of two thousand and twelve and the russian president really thinks the u.s. president for helping out in this whole process he did say that this is the first u.s. administration that has actually been. positive when it comes to russia's accession

to the world trade organization among other issues was of course of course the issue of missile defense where there are still some disagreements between russia and the united states because russia wants the u.s. to provide some legal guarantees that the missile defense plans in europe will. not be a threat to russia's security among other issues of course iran the two leaders said that they want to have a joint kind of plan to make sure that iran follows its international obligations so that's just a few of the very many topics being discussed here on the ground so far we have nine countries including the u.s. who have signed up to really start working on this transpacific plan it's interesting that the united states has been trying to get more countries to join like you mention among them is of course china a major economy that's really making some here over in the united states paranoid that they might lose their sort of main spot is the number one world economy and
6:04 pm
it's interesting that china so far has been seeing that those u.s. plans are a little too ambitious because one of the main flaws of that pact in question would include basically a need for seat owned companies who are get subsidies from the government to be on the same level really as private companies and since so many industries in china are run by. sort of heat and equities it's really a complicated matter for china and would really require a lot of restructuring so this is something that's really for now in the first stages and just includes nine countries for now apparent tension between the u.s. and china at the apec forum can only damage america that's according to george who the founder of international strategic alliances he believes china bashing ahead of the u.s. presidential election hurts rather than helps economic recovery. the dollar is been on a steadily weakening trend for quite

a few years i would say since the end of the bush administration and beginning of obama administration why because we're printing more and more dollars and we're really only country that has that ability and privily to print more money when we need to and natural consequence of that of course is that we can. as far as being competitive or not being cut i think. a lot of that is a structural problem in in the us you have high wage. certain protectionist sentiment from different sectors of the economy and that makes it hard to compete on the worldwide market i used a lot of that make it in. the midst of all it takes the run up to two thousand and twelve presidential election it's really unfortunate because if they see it differently they could it would recognize that inviting chinese investment into the

chair wisely closely entreats the w.t. have doesn't mean you instantly have to drop all customs and comply straight away there's a transit so called transition period roughly thirty years or so protectionist measures will apply for a number of sensitive industries which employ millions of people such as agriculture timber and car making but at a certain point the states industrial dependence will have to let go of its hands and walk on their own two feet in the world outside it but that should also be a somewhat easier place to do business in lieu reduction of customs tariffs and trade barriers to a more level playing field across international markets exceeding the grandchildren aren't t. . coming up full steam ahead to join me. russia opens a brand new gas pipeline direct to germany as moscow moves to cement trade ties with the west. and thousands of students march across central london furious over

the financial abyss into which is currently staring so not your usual job description certainly but everyone very much a feeling he's up to the job and everyone's going to be watching extremely closely to see what the results of that will be now he's currently deciding on who will form that new cabinet around him and he i was speaking to you recently told me it was expected that it will not only be a government of many technocrats but also a rather small gathering around him as well that would be with the intention of creating a more streamlined more effective government who is able to push through these are very serious reforms and can then actually had some of these achievements that have been so long awaited for in the country because these reforms long promised and we failed to see them be delivered safer but he faces an absolutely huge challenge ahead of him with a feeling amongst the people in italy is certainly that with silvio berlusconi

resigned as prime minister and with mary monti now at the helm that it's really at least dance a chance really no one's assuming that this is going to be a quick fix to the very serious problems that the country still faces and of course is one thing to pass these measures and it's one thing to now see caretaker government in the process of being formed a nice decisions have happened very quickly there has to be step this weekend of course i'm absolutely desperate right now to send the message that they are able to get a grasp on the very serious situation in the country but there's still a lot to be done and these reforms actually have to be implemented and that's going to take years before we see the results of that and for that you're going to need. democratic legitimacy he's going to need support and already there are questions about whether mario monti is going to be able to gain that support in parliament because he's going to need that to push through these measures that's going to be very very important in the coming days and weeks also whether he's going to be able

to get across the public support as well because they're the ones he face these very painful austerity measures v eighty hikes pension cuts killed cuts all things that a lot of economists i spoken to said not of course conducive to growth which is exactly what the country needs right now months he's a very well respected economist in the country he's certainly going to be watched very very closely as the man that a lot of people think is the right person to guide the country through a very tough time but as he said the task ahead of him is absolutely huge is nickname here is super mario and that everyone's going to be certainly hoping he's going to live up to that and he will need to deal with the challenges that lie ahead investment advisor patrick young says that unless the euro zone take serious action no amount of power shifting will help it solve its problems. i think the real problem here is the idea that suddenly overnight because we change the brand

name. on the door of the office of prime minister we suddenly get a miraculous change in italy and the truth is italy has a huge amount of debt they need to sell out their to very near future in order to manage to ensure that they can pay the salaries of teachers and other members of the public service and ultimately it's going to be very difficult what may because the markets have lost faith not just in italy but in fact in europe's so-called political leadership who are doing anything but leading nothing is being led in europe and no solutions are being made and everybody is ultimately playing politics with the livelihoods of individual workers in europe and that's a disaster for everybody the euro itself is probably going to implode by the end of the year perhaps even the end of this month unless we see some serious action. thousands of people took over central london on wednesday to protest against a three fold rasm university tuition fees and public spending cuts demonstrators

exhibiting in the dubai. profits are up they said profits are very good in the middle east at the moment what i think i fear and what many analysts may be feeling at the moment is that a saudi backed proxy war will continue and there will be insurgency that is fighting in syria against the assad government to continue to cause instability in syria and beyond and this will be a sort of slow burn phenomenon with the united states and europe taking a kind of backseat almost and also forget the turkey has been actively involved in the even told us diplomatic staff and as i understand it was advising its citizens to leave syria to turkey is playing a game here to the media is playing a massive game qatar's television station al-jazeera very obviously wanting the four of us out of the moment and the western media to. and remember you can always find more stories on our website here's a glimpse of what else you'll find out r.t. dot com. the man delved into the europe's last dictator turns against flash mobs

surrounded occupy protesters in the central park after they defied orders to disperse officers used for tolerance and threatened arrest if the demonstrators fail to comply with the protests are part of a larger movement which is protesting social and economic inequality and corporate greed in america and around the world. russia has ushered in a new era of energy security for western europe with the launch of the north stream pipeline it's now pumping russian gas directly to germany ruling out any rows with transit countries which had previously left european consumers out in the cold artie's daniel bushell watched as the receiving end of the pipeline was unveiled. wheel of fortune turns in europe's favor a year leaders hailed russia's first of a route that skirts tricky transit nations bill routes and ukraine where the gas rich middle east also one stable energy chief say the project's a boom in several ways nothing brings addition of everything back to.

a very important admission the security of the with it and he's there we traveled the world. he said in handcuffs securely through every essential but this security comes with a hefty price tag the project cost some eight billion euro in fact nord stream operated from was told by many took home lists that the world's longest obsolete guess route was doomed to failure. this is a pipeline they said couldn't be built it's too long too expensive and take it that it was impossible but it's happened think experts is built the russian engineering brilliance there use their technical. design as a pipeline which is i think the best pipeline we have. for gas from what the rock nordstrom's first line has started successfully and the second goes

operational in twenty twelve together they can hit twenty six million homes a year but more is needed because use has jumped even through the current e.u. to crisis and supply can't keep up with predicted demand has given the strongest him so far the third line could also be built so mean that if i will add all the capacity of existing again future by quality still not enough expansion of steam will be discussed but is so some even call this project the first step that could take russia into the e.u. single market there are those who hold north stream will make the two sides friendlier. we are trying to bring russia closer to europe even integrate europe and russia into a common energy space and therefore this is a space we'll be successful that we can think about creating and common economic space and a free trade zone as the first guest began to float optimistic leaders were all

smiles the next few months will show with little streams really the still so we knew we were between the e.u. and russia well just another point dream that you will shortie in germany a technical failure affecting russia's first interplanetary mission in fifteen years has dealt a huge blow to hopes of getting a better understanding of how the universe evolved there are now fears that the thirteen ton probe will crash back to earth having never even reached its goal artie's tom barton reports from the baikonur launch station. hopes were high when the phobos rocket was launched from the cosmodrome here in baikonur in kazakstan it was the first interplanetary mission russia had launched in fifteen years and there was great hopes that it would help to reveal secrets about the red planet and about how life evolved those folks have since turned to fears of attentional catastrophe
6:26 pm
the group stage of the rocket went ok it went up into the over it's over but then problems started the second stage was to close to commence we could cruise rocket firing that would carry the phobos spacecraft on a ten month voyage to the red planet they didn't fire what does this all mean now then it means that far from going to the red planet phobos is most likely heading right back down to earth it's likely that it will happen about the end of november the beginning of december the predicted date given at the moment the twenty sixth of november as earth's gravitational field slowly pulls the the spacecraft back into the atmosphere the upper atmosphere is very turbulent and that was going to throw the rocket around as it comes back but eventually it's going to have to land somewhere the hopes are but it will land somewhere in the sea but believe this is the or some kind of. like cause or.
6:27 pm
maybe some of those this is the industry which we still pay attention to the quality of work or the presence. of the species concept. we should not be so goes for it and sometimes the worry tiny. piece of metal can. be a cause so for you before work the rocket is carrying about ten tons of very toxic and highly flammable fuel. and there's also a small amount of radioactive material in the equipment onboard the chances of it landing on a populated area are very small and and so are the chances that it will cause any harm but the chance is there and that's what experts at mission control are trying to avoid. and i'll be back with a recap of this week's top stories and today's headlines in just a few minutes don't go away.

people who are here the only real health care system that we have in the city of los angeles is the los angeles fire department in fact when i started my venture is a firefighter i didn't want to be around so i started out i want to just do firefighting it's about eighty two percent of what we do the for the core of this medical but we had a rescue couple who still waited four hours for a bit i waited sometimes three hours but i was it's a safe francis and we were for four hours and fifty minutes getting us to all the patients and we have a federal law that mandates that you can't turn no one away who seeks care in the emergency room. we have the most expensive health care system in the world and it's probably valued the least. culture is the same or different and there's a huge music issue.
