three pm in moscow i met treasurer good to have you with us here on r t our top story four hundred arrests that's the tally for the last twenty four hours as police stage an intense crackdown on occupy wall street protests that happened in the u.s. the latest demonstrations spending the entire country comes the movement markets two month anniversary with more than thirty thousand protesters in new york alone the day became a testament to the staying power of the movement's ideals it is though facing a synchronized clampdown by local governments ends of law enforcement agencies archy's lucy calif and of how is the latest from manhattan. we're standing on the brooklyn bridge in new york city where the occupy wall street protesters are marching on this is the final and. the biggest around effectivity it had taken

place on the two month anniversary of the occupy wall street movement that began right here in new york on september seventeenth what began a co-location of a small part near wall street that turned into a nationwide movement that spread to countries all across the world from toronto to tokyo cities all across the globe but it raised in the message that these protesters are putting out which is the frustration for the control of the political system they perceive by the few foot bridge that leads by those with the means of the wealth and the inability for the average american to essentially put food on the table to live the middle class lifestyle these are some of the demands some of the frustrations that the protesters here have expressed and it is what we are seeing spreading across the country now the events in new york city have been tense filled with extreme tension many clashes with police officers and the protesters following the raid that took place not only in new york city but across
6:03 am
the country and many of the occupation is from oakland to denver to portland to all kinds of other cities many arrests in fact a two hundred or so protesters have been arrested although we expect the numbers will be much higher once all the information comes to bear we have seen unfortunately a lot of instances of bus seemingly unprovoked the taliban by the police force in many cases the protesters were simply sitting perhaps standing in an area that's a little bit too close to the sidewalk they were met with brute force by the police department many of them slammed down onto the ground handcuffs and physically from the way we occupy wall street movement was really a crust into the spotlight following the mass arrests that were witnessed on this very bridge the brooklyn bridge several weeks ago where seven hundred protesters were candles by police setting and arrested and massive for the most part whether or not their message will actually result in policy changes remains to be seen but there certainly be. incurred by the press by the residents and by

a countless americans all across the united states reporting for our teeth on the brooklyn bridge i mean you seek out you know. lucy is keeping up with the latest developments in the anti wall street protests and the police response you can check out her twitter feed for the most up to date information she's posted video footage showing a protester with his face covered in blood after reportedly being struck by a police baton she also reports on what some call a questionable approach to freedom of speech as correspondents also being arrested at demonstrations across the u.s. . but it's not only in places like new york and los angeles where the protests have taken root in fact they've sprung up nationwide for other videos from cities head to our web site r t v dot com. under different pretenses authorities are taking protesters out of their occupy locations note probably areas that it was a boy here on the streets of los angeles is planning district we can hear the
6:05 am
chants of occupy us say one of the interesting parts of the today at least for the occupy d.c. movement has been the police presence there have been just as many officers as protesters they've been parked at every corner they have walked with the protesters and if you take a look here in the potomac river there they are they're waiting we're closely following the growth of the protests in d.c. los angeles philadelphia and other cities are he's got a chicky on ramon the lindo pristine for his hour uploading the latest footage and comments from the places where the events are happening. or he also spoke with believe me i'm a senior correspondent for the independent media roots news a group who thinks the police are purposefully going beyond the call of duty to nip the protests in the bud. but unity we're seeing here is the attempt to really crush the occupy wall street movement clearly there are trying to hit the protesters with the shock and awe and credit then they turned back fired and so now
6:06 am
they're trying to find a pretext i think that in the united states with the w t o i don't see at all situation you know the this is the really learned a lesson nonviolent direct action and it's really very effective and the port of oakland shut down it's really sent a message to the political establishment that you know people really seem to parties be catered to and they're really fed up with it and they're just not going to stand for it anymore so that's what we're seeing. meanwhile across the atlantic the mood is much the same as a new wave about arrest is ripping through europe tens of thousands a spill out of the streets of spain italy and greece as public anger with incessant cuts and tax hikes comes to a head with growing fears of the effect austerity will have on future generations. but first looking to mend fences battered by their differences over europe's future
6:07 am
leaders of germany and britain are meeting in berlin today but one has made a number of attempts at pushing for a much tighter integration that could eventually transform the economic union into a political one which is something that london is vehemently opposing for more on what's up for debate we go live to london where our team is laura smith is standing by. so laura what's on the table today for chancellor merkel and prime minister cameron. well people in the press here been talking about the showdown and we're not necessarily expecting that but we are expecting that they will be sitting down together and trying to resolve some of the tensions that have arisen between them over the past few weeks basically what it boils down to is that angela merkel germany's chancellor wants more europe she wants to turn this kind of economic and fiscal union into more of a political union with tighter regulations and bringing the individual governments in the european union more under the heel of brussels and what david cameron wants
6:08 am
is less europe he's talked about a sort of net having had an european union having more of the flexibility over network than an actual political union we have seen just this morning some news assume leaks documents from the german sides which talk about a secret plan it's all very full of intrigue. if the germans want to create what will essentially be a whole new economic order at the center of europe a powerful new centralized body and there's a secret plan amongst the germans to pass that off as a minor change in the makeup of europe so that the lisbon treaty doesn't have to undergo a referendum in individual countries which will take a long time that's going to be very unpopular here in the u.k. where there is a big move to hold a referendum on membership of europe as a whole never mind letting the germans and the french and whoever wants to make changes to the lisbon treaty what would amount to two major changes so that there
6:09 am
are several sources of tension i'd say the one of the major sources of tension is the role of the european central bank the british and the french want european central bank to be able to lend money as a last resort angela merkel says she says that would involve the printing of money and and also inflation which germans are petrified of as a whole there's also a big rout growing about this. finds out the financial transaction tax which people here are calling a robin hood tax take from the rich and it gives to the poor loans of course is a major financial center next got that way by having slightly looser regulations than other major financial centers that's become a haven for big investors the germans once this financial transaction tax they say would raise valuable revenue but chancellor of the exchequer here in the u.k. george osborne he calls it the bullets aimed at the heart of the city of london some in the u.k. think that fronts in germany are in fact trying to weaken the safety but of course
6:10 am
for the british economy some people have said this is no last chance saloon for the vicious economy we depend very heavily on our financial services sector which would be very badly damaged by this robin hood tax we are going through high unemployment particularly amongst young people twenty percent of young people are currently out of work week growth high inflation it's two times what the bank of england's targeted level is and of course the threat of recession so this is this is really a crucial time for deciding how far europe is going to be able to go and of course if these may need markel have already fallen out of cameron pulls out with this well then what's going to happen to say the economies of europe all right our dear laura smith live for us in london thanks for that update. well the mood in europe is growing increasingly grim as previously in my your problem these are brought to their knees by the block's reaching debt crisis the widely adopted solutions have been relentless budget cuts and tax hikes that have spawn hundreds of protests and

riots but authorities sara for a porch from rome unrestrained austerity may carry an even heavier price tag for future generations. actually students have a lot to be unhappy about the dire economic situation he's seen youth unemployment hit crippling levels in the struggling economies and despite recent political labels in greece and italy the public and the markets remain unconvinced that viable solution has now been found if there is a need to struggling to get a handle on the crisis we come back to school we come here to the university of the garter to speak some of the youngest brightest economic minds in the country find out what they think should be done there is the need of course for reforms and probably it is not enough because they will. inquiry for more than just facts you know fifteen twenty years so it really is also a need for i think increase trade their public its bandage or.

russia along with some of its post soviet partners of taking their first steps toward setting up a new economic body president medvedev along with his belorussian counterparts signed an agreement on further integration between the region states or he's a nice in our way has more. this is build on an already existing customs union between russia belarus and kazakhstan but the eurasia union will go even further its magic promote trade and economic cooperation with the asia pacific region and doing that by creating a new market that will unite legislation it will provide free chapo flow services and human resources so much the worse we concession to even think and go as far as to say that this is the only way to protect those three countries from the economic crisis that's spreading across europe and around the world but. eurasian union will
6:15 am
become a kurd of products services and work force between europe and america foundation and union is europe's only way to survive because and the current fiscal crisis especially in the union will build a migration system very much like what we see with bush and again i agree when in europe it is meant to a lower cost and tariffs also create a unified trade standards and it's expected that it will encourage businesses to invest in modernization of the three countries and also to very severely boost competition oh also we're hearing from from different experts that it could like i said reverse the global economic downturn that we're seeing and there's a possibility that it will expand in the future countries like ukraine could possibly join analysts there saying that they have a union like this existed some years back they would be in a very different situation financially today. if the project was realized back in
6:16 am
two thousand and four when the ukrainian parliament confirmed the plan establishing a united economic zone i'm sure my country was going through the financial crisis more easily and our economy would be no different position today than it was exports and economists around the world we're waiting to see what impact it has on the markets and of course some experts say that it will ease dialogue and communication relations with the european union to ask why. to talk more about the russian led integration plan i'm joined by political analyst alexei pushkov thanks for joining us here on our t. so if you're asian union is based upon the european union but given the latest economic woes in the eurozone do you think that's a wise move. well i think it is a wise move i think it's only logical that europe had united and as we know there is a free trade zone in north america so i think it was just natural for russia
6:17 am
to become the issue of a new economic union on the space what impact do you think the new such union will have on the member states economy. what i see the. member states will profit from this union. will basically open themselves to russia and russia will gain five million. people for its own experts but. will also receive as a gift as one may say the russian market which is one hundred forty million people so i think. definitely mr look at shimko and mr nazarbayev are not deliberate who are prone to emotional decisions even they agree to go this way together with russia it means that they have judged that this economic union is profitable goes
6:18 am
for bill or is and do you think a lot make concessions the wall so. excuse me i think i have to make concessions to be part of a union as well. well you know in every union you're making concessions as we all know nato for instance means for its member states. sort of sharing of military burden and also the decision to share part of the sovereignty with their alliance so i think that here definitely they will have to limit some how their sovereignty in economic trade matters but i think this is only natural in all integration all processes like in the european union for instance all sides which have taken parts making concessions but to gain more than they lose how long do you think it will be before any kind of fruit gets born from this
6:19 am
partnership. well actually i think the fruits. already appearing the of all the i'm of trade. in the framework of the customs union which was signed this summer has been already spending between russia. and kazakhstan and the figure is very positive the volume of trade will be growing rapidly the exchanges will be growing rapidly and the businesses both in minsk in moscow and in the end us to not have already understood that this is good for them because they're being removed so i think in half a year we will see already a very practical fruits of this alliance by the kremlin is hoping that this could be a counterbalance to the economic weight. you think that's realistic. well
6:20 am
i think the economic weight of the e.u. has been somewhat damaged by the crisis and even the u. has been asking the chinese to help them with money in order to overcome the sovereign debt i would not make too much show the economic union waits at least in the foreseeable future i think that this has nothing to do with the european union i think it's an independent economic union on the pulse of a space where people know each other. very much used to each other where they used to be a joint economy as we know the soviet economy was an important economy and all these lands were part of this economy so i think it's in a way rebuilding the toys which have been severe during the fall of the soviet union and i think this eurasian union has all the chances to become a very important integration alliance on the post soviet space and in the eurasia
6:21 am
or i will have to leave it there alexei pushkov what a lot of listening experience i. think. russia belarus and kazakhstan were once united as part of the world's biggest country the u.s.s.r. but that unity ended twenty years ago with the collapse of the soviet union at thirteen thirty g.m.t. we continue our special series about how the former member states have fared so far this time the focus on the. twenty years ago in the largest country in the us and to some to the system the system. most of them. began to chip. away did it take. a syrian official has said the country has agreed in principle to when arab league observers mission inside the country the proposal came after damascus was suspended from the body for failure to deal with its internal an arrest meanwhile jordan's

began and the timing is very similar to the opposition in syria is now militarized making it much easier to support and adds more weight to any international threats . and house for regime change is clearly very very strong now and we should learn the lessons of the thousands and thousands of. the night of bombing . and nato bombing or any other intervention any other military intervention in syria will have even more serious consequences because of the regional threat whole question of iran the whole question of israel the u.k. has apparently been handed its leading role by king abdullah of jordan so far the only arab leader to publicly call for and sad to quit but the patience of ceres other neighbors and crucial regional brokers' is now wearing thin to the arab league suspended series membership and given presents a sad until saturday to end the violence in britain already primed this could be

the last ditch attempt at conventional diplomacy they're in a position now where they have to take some marked. they've in effect of extent of the dead on the original third likes what yesterday another conference or another three days or so perhaps they're trying to offers us out as much as possible in order to get out of your community but having sort of taken direction that they've gone this far degree or a place where they have to have to make good on the promise of if not otherwise to also figure out about their credibility the free syrian army has been the main driving force behind the growing opposition movement most to defectors from the army launching their latest attack on a security base russia and china are still appealing for dialogue is the way to end what they call two way violent they're desperate to avoid another libya style intervention but that chance may be fading but the wheels are already in motion for a coordinated attack it's verbal for now but when it came to libya it wasn't long before the words were backed up by weapons and bombs and other bennett r t.
