hundreds of arrests and the heavy head of police is the occupy protesters come out in force across the u.s. marking two months of corporate greed anger and. fear asia's economies of scale as russia belarus and kazakhstan move toward creating a new trade block to protect against europe's debt brought from spreading their way . but there are new signs of rupture within the e.u. itself as britain flashes with germany which wants countries to surrender more control of their own financial and political decisions.
7:01 am
for pm in moscow i matras are good to have you with us here on r.t. our top story hundreds of arrests and multiple injuries are the result of a massive day of action across the us by occupy wall street protesters tens of thousands of activists against corporate greed took part in rallies in cities across the u.s. marking two months of the movement but several met with a heavy police response officers in riot gear on with the times and shields were accused of brutality against the mostly peaceful demonstrators the focal point was of course in new york where crowds took to bridges the subway and try to disrupt the stock exchange to make their frustration heard artie's lucy company was at the heart of the protests. we're standing on the brooklyn bridge in new york city where the occupy wall street protesters are marching on this is the final and the big round effectivity and that taking place on the chew montana very free of the occupy
7:02 am
wall street movement that began right. here in new york on september seventeenth what began as a patron of a small park near wall street had turned into a nationwide movement. to fundraise all possible worlds from one to two tokyo cities all across the globe have been praised and the message that these protesters are putting out which is the pressurization with corporate greed the control of the political pursuit the system as they perceived by the few corporate elites by those with the means of the wealth and the inability for the average american to essentially put food on the table to live the middle class lifestyle these are some of the demands some of the frustrations that the protesters here have expressed and that is what we are seeing spreading across the country now the event in new york city have been tense filled with extreme tension many clashes with police officers and the protesters following the raid that took place not only in new york city but across the country in many of the operations from oakland to denver to portland to
7:03 am
all kinds of other cities to many arrests we have seen unfortunately a lot of instances of a seemingly unprovoked the colony by the police force in many cases the protesters were simply sitting perhaps standing in an area that's a little bit too close to the sidewalk they were met with were forced by the police department many of them slammed down onto the ground handcuffed and physically dragged away the occupy wall street movement was really crossed into the spotlight following the mass arrests there were witness on this very bridge the brooklyn bridge several weeks ago where seven hundred protesters were handled by police that a man arrested and massive for the most part whether or not their message will actually result in policy changes remains to be seen but they're certainly being heard by the press by the residents and by a callous americans all across the united states reporting for our team on the brooklyn bridge obviously cops know. lucy carter not has been covering the protests
7:04 am
from very water. and the police response you can check out her twitter feed for the most up to date information she says journalists have been arrested across the u.s. while covering the rallies he's also posting pictures and video footage from the police crackdowns on demonstrating. earlier i spoke with philippe messina a correspondent for the independent media routes news organization who thinks the police are purposefully going beyond the call of duty to nip the protests in the bud. but really what we're seeing here is the attempt to really crush the occupy wall street movement clearly they're trying to hit the protesters with the shock and awe and try to pretend that back fired and so now they're trying to find different pretext i think in the united states which. i don't see at all situation . you know the practice of really learned a lesson that nonviolent direct action and it's really very effective and one of
7:05 am
open shots it's really sent a message through the political establishment that you know people really see the two parties be catered to and they're really fed up with it and they're just not going to stand for it anymore so that's why we're seeing. those were reporting financial protests erupted coast to coast in the u.s. for a video from other demonstrations you can click on our web site r t dot com. and get different pretenses authorities are taking protesters out of their occupy locations you know public areas one of the interesting parts of it today at least what the occupy d.c. movement has then the police presence there have been just as many officers as protesters they've been parked at every corner they have walked away with the protests there is and if you take a look here in the potomac river there they are there waiting. for our correspondents in washington d.c. philadelphia and los angeles are closing their latest bluejay and comments on the
7:06 am
developments from within the protests you can check it all out at our t.v. dot com. while debts drag down europe's economies russia and some of its post soviet partners are taking steps to balance out the financial climate in the broader region the eurasian economic union is said to her a warmer environment for trade and investment throughout the continent artie's a nice and now way joins us live with more hello and nice so break this down for us . well i don't race it was signed. today between russia belarus and kazakhstan and it basically lays the groundwork for an envision if you raise an economic union that would be very similar to the form out we see now of the e.u. the aim there to promote more trade and economic cooperation with the asia pacific region what it would do is would create a new market with united legislation and that would create free capital flow human resources as well as services this is what president medvedev had to say about the advantages this union would have in comparison to the e.u.
7:07 am
. is because right because we won't repeat the mistakes of the european union and you know our integration we're conscious of what we're doing we understand why we integration with the three countries sharing a common history and should say we're forming sinkhole an economy that is why we start not on different levels but from similar positions the european union took a shot in the jaw to some extent the jewish and it's different i'm sure we will be able to create a stall is unstable economic you. with these. some other pluses to this invasion union would be lower a customs tariffs as well as standardize trading format between the three countries it's possible that ukraine could join in the future it's also expected to encourage businesses to invest in modernization in all three countries which of course the big platform of president medvedev and has been during his presidency but most
7:08 am
importantly i think it was pointed out by the three leaders today was that this will protect them from the economic crisis that's spreading across europe the goal and the work of the globe i should say and some analysts even go as far as to say is that it could in fact help and reverse the global economic downturn that we're seeing so who knows in the future we could be saying the e.u. as common as you say the e.u. today all right are he's and he's and i live for us outside the problem there thanks for that update. the political economy professor alexandra league says the eurasian union will boost competition and help discipline the finances of the member states. well the thing which is going to happen is an intensified competition between companies we observe it already now and we see that it's clearly benefits that include increases the efficiency of the russian companies as well of the companies of countries another benefit which is clearly to be taken into account is there restoration of the existing economic ties of that region of
7:09 am
the russian companies have been very actively exploring that post soviet space in the last eight zero so in kazakhstan they have been present quite actively so that you raise an economic union is likely to give a boost here supporting this developments and in some sense it will create competition between governments what's also good for the game many russian companies at least claim to be considering migration to kazakhstan which has lowered tax rates so it will discipline russian government itself as well later in the program we turn to the e.u. but a new greek and italian governments are already struggling to win the trust of their people are he asked why a change in leadership hasn't changed public mood as he entered protests in the two crisis hit countries gathered pace and even turned violent. plus with a diplomatic offensive against syria due to be set in motion we take a look at the concerns that strong words could be replaced by military action.
7:10 am
they may both be pressing for action to resolve the e.u. debt crisis but approaches are worlds apart german and british leaders meeting in berlin to thrash out a possible solution chancellor angela merkel is pushing through tighter integration and less sovereignty something fiercely opposed by british prime minister david cameron for more on this we go live to our teens laura smith standing by for us it one day and hello laura so what's on the table today for chancellor merkel and prime minister cameron. well i guess trying to align those two approaches that you just mentioned is at the top of the agenda and there are various sort of tensions rising between coal and cameron we hear that merkel is going to try to persuade state this cameron that it's a good idea to create what is then surely amounts to a whole new economic at the center of europe basically what we have seen. this morning leaks documents from the german sides which shows that they are trying
7:11 am
to push those reforms through as you might you know reforms to the lisbon treaty and they can make the reforms the lisbon treaty without having any kind of referendum inside countries and michael's going to try to persuade cameron that it's a good idea to push those changes through without asking the people now that's not going to go down very well here in the u.k. because there's already a big movement underway to hold a referendum about whether the u.k. should be a member of the european union at school so that's going to be very unpopular. we already seen two german m.p.'s accusing britain of being self-centered and shortsighted about the consequences of the consequences even for the u.k. economy of a collapse of the euro. the u.k. is being pretty quick to criticize but very slow to act to bail any of these countries out and we've also heard the prime minister of luxembourg this morning saying that heavily indebted countries like britain shouldn't be advising shouldn't
7:12 am
be dictating the response to the euro crisis tension is just keep their mouths shut we are also seeing a lot of friction between the two about this possible financial transaction tax which has been jobs for nothing which tax in the u.k. takes the rich and gives to the poor that london is obviously a major financial center. to be is very heavily reliant on financial services and has loosened its financial regulations in order to encourage its investors to come. to invest in the u.k. the germans want this financial transaction tax they say it would raise valuable revenue but bush's chancellor fixed it george osborne calls it aimed at the heart of the system in fact some in the u.k. think that france and germany are deliberately trying to introduce this tax in order to weaken the city and this we have to admit is really the last chance saloon for the chicago meets in terrible shape high unemployment particularly among young
7:13 am
people twenty percent of young people are now out of work week. high inflation inflation in the moment is two times the targets of the bank and we also have this this large threat of recession so really finding a way to approach these these problems and not falling outs with i'm going to think is is is going to be key on the agenda and there isn't necessarily a showdown chalked up for today but there is certainly a lot of issues that they have to sort out between them all right archy's laura smith live for us in london thanks for that update. well italy greece is new governments are still fresh out of the box but they've already endured unfriendly welcomes from thousands of angry protesters both prime ministers committed to extremely unpopular solutions including budget cuts and tax hikes but authorities are fourth reports unrestrained austerity they carry an even heavier price tag for future generations. students flipped to the streets across the saline

greece because of protests ringing loud and clear accusing what they cood bank is governments and the economic situation displacing. i'm young maybe this is the problem. with people close in age with me and. they feel alone the students have a lot to be unhappy about the dire economic situation he's seen youth unemployment crippling levels in the struggling economies and despite recent political labels in greece and italy they say the public and the markets remain unconvinced that a viable solution has now been found if there is a need to struggling to get a handle on the crisis we come back to school we come here to the university of the carter to some of the youngest brightest economic minds in the country find out what they think should be.

proud. of. the growth of growth in the state meeting economy says create one of the major challenges in an age of the e.u. imposed. technocrat government is now firmly in place mary monti and lucas papademos are undeniable with their experience to face the tough challenges ahead but it's sixty eight and sixty four respectively spring chickens and with an aging political class around then there's been seemingly little room for the younger generation to have their say we have to think of the future. of the future we have to.
7:16 am
include young people and major criticism since the beginning of this crisis has been the inability of your insane leaders to react quickly to the shifting economic circumstances and to adapt e.u. reasons he could well now rest on the political guys who bracing a new approach so i think. greedy parliament professor yanis varoufakis thinks his country sacrificed and sovereignty to brussels but it's likely to be in vain. greece has lost its national sovereignty just like it heads under the sugar and i've been sixty seven i'm sorry for this alone we have this problem and because it was good margaret well you have been some faculty european commission and if you think we improve. our quality lives as well as people with space to meet enough to meet the indian. you have

role in the overthrow of moammar gadhafi britain's become the new go to guy when it's trouble in the middle east prime minister david cameron's been handpicked his team captain for another libya style control group aimed at forcing president bashar al assad out to begin with it will be a diplomatic offensive but russia please it's an overreaction that could pave the way for military intervention. we suggested in order to put your initiative in place all countries concerned with a peaceful outcome develop a system seriously if you demand not only from the syrian authorities but also from the opposition to stop the violence the ongoing attacks of this government buildings in syria look like a civil war. at the moment there's no mention of military action from britain their offensive is purely verbal for now but that's exactly how the libyan intervention began and the timing is very similar to the opposition in syria is now militarized

a position now where they have to take some aren't. in effect they've extended it on the reasons i like swat yesterday another difference or another three days so perhaps they're trying to offer our side as much group as possible in order to keep having opportunity but having sort of taken in that they've gone this far beyond a position where they have to have to make good on the promise of the free market or why start some figure out upon the credibility of the free syrian army has been the main driving force behind the growing opposition movement most of the things is from the army launching their latest attack on a security base russia and china still appealing for dialogue and they're going to end what they call two way violence they desperate to avoid another libya style intervention but that chance may be fading but the wheels are already in motion for a coordinated attack it's verbal for now but when it came to libya it wasn't long before the words were backed up by weapons and bombs are the bennetts r.t. trotted out as some other stories making headlines across the globe and arrest

man alone while welcome to business r.t. russia has now more internet users than anywhere else in europe when it comes to cashing in investors are still wary of the country as the course reports. this is russia's most popular website on average people spend here about seven hours a month over fifty million people are now online in the country knocking germany from the top spot the figure may seem impressive but in reality only a third of the country has a regular access to the internet the main problem is infrastructure developments in such a huge country while moscow and st petersburg may be doing just fine people in other regions rely on dial up modems and open the treasury of broadband in those areas as many russians are using their cell phones instead this year the number of more of our internet users has grown by nineteen percent this is creating
