2:00 pm
in the palm of your. home. let's go. to the start treaty will be forced to defend itself strike systems so what is the u.s. something missile defense shield in europe. what washington is not planning on making any changes christmas all defense plan in europe i'll be back with more in just a few minutes. cells and their anger at egypt's military rulers with protesters staying put them out of karo until his square say these concessions enough. i crawled up why can't that
2:01 pm
hangs over top this where as many struggle to cope with the number one constant basis for ten more from cairo think of the few moments. and the euros in mortal danger of brussels once tough economic governance is the only way out of the crisis but money by germany says every country should look to itself stories this hour. to national news and comment live from moscow with you twenty four hours a day russia may pull out of the start treaty and stop nuclear disarmament if the u.s. continues to deploy its missile defense shield in europe as inventive said moscow could also points on strike systems like its counter missiles on its own borders in response. explains. some very harsh and direct words from president medvedev on the development of plans for the u.s.
2:02 pm
nato and their eastern european allies to build and develop that missile defense shield in eastern europe just outside russia's border he pointed out five steps that the russian federation would take if nato the u.s. and its allies don't reconsider first off early warning systems will be immediately activated including grad which is russia's most western enclave just outside just across the border i should say from the plans for that missile defense shield also the country's strategic nuclear forces will be strengthened significantly the president said the paddies to happen urgently to quote him our strategic missiles will be fitted with advanced missile defense penetration systems so that means the latest generation warheads and also the armed forces has been notified that it needs to create a system that would be able to destroy i doubt it changed and the control systems of that missile defense shield in eastern europe like i said once again it can't be stretched up just outside of russia's border if all of those steps aren't enough
2:03 pm
for nato and its allies to reconsider this would be russia's last resort. just a feature if other measures are insufficient russia will deploy contemporary strike systems in the west themselves in order to prevent further damage from the us missile systems in europe the deployment of us going to missile system in accounting we had made and will be one such step if the situation develops in an unfavorable way russia will reserve the rush to cease further steps and here we are reducing element and arms control. giving you an extra couple link between strategic offensive and defensive weapons reasons could emerge from russia's withdrawal from the strategic arms reduction treaty this is a vision within the content of the treaty it has to be pointed out that president medvedev once again stressed that it's not too late that russia does believe that dialogue can help to reach some kind of agreement that satisfy. both sides in terms of missile defense the start treaty the latest one of course signed in april twenty
2:04 pm
ten held as a tremendous step in the reset so fashion word to withdraw from the treaty would be a huge step back in terms of russia u.s. relations president has made it once again said that today that we need a legally binding guarantees that those systems are not positions against not so they're practically surrounded from europe down to the middle east and that across it there is to the seaboard in the pacific in terms of bases in japan and south korea as a russia saying that they need more guarantees than just the u.s. and its allies say you just have to trust us it was a great step in terms of relations but obviously not clear enough because there's not enough binding agreement between the two countries that those systems will not be directed against each other so russia and the west are very much moving in different directions russia feels that if the u.s. and nato can't meet i signed with them they have every right to create their own system and protect their national interest. and he said well washington has responded by saying it is not going to review its plans for missile defense shield
2:05 pm
in europe so says tommy vietor he's the spokesman for the u.s. national security council let's get more on this from ortiz kind of charm she joins us live now in washington. what more can you tell us. well as you mentioned the u.s. is not planning on making any changes to its missile defense system in europe we heard this from national security council spokesman tommy vietor and this is what he said its implementation is going well and we see no basis for threats to withdraw from it and he is also saying we will continue to work with russia to find the parameters of possible cooperation however in pursuing this cooperation will not in any way limit or change our deployment plans in iraq he also said the system would not be aimed at russia we. washington and moscow do not see eye to eye on this issue where she wants a legally binding guarantees. to which the u.s. doesn't seem to be ready to give the u.s.
2:06 pm
missile defense plan that we're talking about is a four stage play and with the first two stages in vision these relation of us and three perceptions of the world capability and the last two higher capability is the last two stages that especially for those of russians the more advanced once because russians have a different analysis of the weapons that the so-called rogue states have and will they don't happen moscow doesn't want this is them going to lead directly against russia the war of words on missile defense has been going on for quite some time now with washington saying we need powerful and it's all interceptors against a possible attack legitimate dangerous stage legally again iran and north korea and moscow saying why would you need interceptors for weapons that those who don't have but russia does and russia views what america's missile defense plans as an attempt to breach that very precious parity principle that was set by the start treaty. ok gary thank you very much indeed for that update live from our studios there in
2:07 pm
washington well let's get more reaction now from eight disarmament campaigner bruce kenyon he joins us now from boston so the u.s. response they have now said that they will not review these plans and they will go ahead with the missile defense system does this mean washington is closing its doors for a possible negotiation something that president medvedev was hoping for. i think so i think it's long been the policy of the u.s. to push forward the missile defense the poirot's literally surrounding russia a little addition surrounding china as well clearly the united states ever since the bush administration walked away from the. treaty early on in his administration the u.s. has been determined to move forward with missile defense deployments surrounding russia with some could say that this. these words from event there is a case of moscow being provocative but is it not being pushed into
2:08 pm
a corner now moscow by the u.s. why won't washington give any legal guarantees and why would it cooperate with moscow on a joint system that's what they've been asking for. i think that clearly the u.s. wants to be in charge it wants to be the bully on the block it wants to control contain both russia and china in the coming year and the fact that russia happens to hold the world's largest supply of natural gas only makes this more interesting if you will just in the last day though in the last twenty four hours the u.s. has also said it was going to walk away from the conventional armed forces in europe treaty which really tried to control conventional weapons on all sides in the region and in fact the adapted agreement that was negotiated a few years ago has yet to be ratified by many nato countries and so at the time
2:09 pm
that nato members are not willing to ratify that c.f.e. treaty you see washington now saying it's going to pull out and blaming russia for so i see a public relations campaign being being created directed at the american people being directed at the people of europe in order to essentially demonize russia in order to justify these deployments i think this arms race is not going to help anyone it's not good for anyone either russia or the united states or europe but it's clear that the u.s. in the military industrial complex that is driving this policy is pushing this ahead a very dangerous and provocative strategy i believe we have five countries that are pretty close to the russian border the western border. obviously all of those countries hosting various elements of that system. do you think that russia perhaps is overreacting thinking that these systems that such an anti missile defense
2:10 pm
system could actually threaten and be used as an offensive system is it perhaps being paranoid to have a good case. well you know the u.s. is saying that to russia don't worry this is all in order to guard against iran well we know that iran has no nuclear missiles no nuclear weapons and no long range nuclear missiles that can target the united states clearly there's no other reason for the u.s. to be deploying patriot missile defense systems in poland thirty five miles from or thirty five kilometers rather from. grad and also to be now deploying these missile defense systems in romania and talking to turkey and georgia about putting missile defense radar systems in those countries and so clearly this is intended to circle russia so i don't think russia's been paranoid at all i think it's sad
2:11 pm
fortunate that we're going to see what appears to be a new cold war and a new arms race unless people around the world begin to see that the united states the obama administration who wanted one hand has been saying they want to get rid of nuclear weapons but on the other hand it's taking policies that are only going to increase the amount of nuclear weapons by both russia and china with these missile defense deployments but none of this seems to make sense does it the start treaty was agreed touring that climate of resetting relations not that long ago what overall impact will this now have on the relations the so-called woman of relations between u.s. and russia are we really going to go that cold or is this just anti rhetoric. well you know let's face it the weapons corporations in america always love the new enemy and they always love instability because they're able to sell more weapons
2:12 pm
that way and weapons weapons industry is the number one industrial product of america today it's what drives us foreign and military policy and so clearly the u.s. surrounding russia and china today moving these so-called missile defense systems that are part of u.s. first strike strategy the missile defense system is the shield to be used to pick off for talent for the strikes after a u.s. first strike sword has been thrust at either russia or china so i don't think it's extreme paranoia sadly. and i'm a nuclear weapons on all sides but i don't think it's paranoia on the part of russia as they look and they see medo and the us beginning it encircled that of one of its country bruce county i'm very interested to hear your thoughts thank you for
2:13 pm
your time joining us live. that's charging for egypt's military motions to go it goes overtime here square where thousands of gathered and are determined to stay the army says a presidential election will be held by next summer but the people want the nile is live in current and she joins us. from tokyo where paula go dramatic events there because you we can hear shouts and sorrows what is it like to be on top of his square right now. but i consider it certainly feels that there's a lot of mayhem happening here the situation changing by the minute the violence just constantly intensifying for the first time we've seen the army and the police come closer to the main part of toughness where they may have been before the crowd surged backwards with this huge white smoke of tear gas filling up here now the protesters are literally picking up the face and burning them as army and police
2:14 pm
officers they seem to be responding with tear gas with rubber bullets and with live ammunition he and even his have been ferrying people forwards and backwards in the last few hours dozens if not hundreds of people have been injured of course going out for a million man march to be held again this friday so no doubt these figures are more and more likely to be achieved because people here when they are saying that they're in this for the long court they're going to see this is a revolution through a court is also going out by egypt's grand mufti he has called on police to lay down arms and to stop firing on protesters and civilians it's a call that's being echoed in the international community great countries are urging both sides to show the strains and to show quant at the same time though the mood is one of incredible anger he thought really really frustrated i mean
2:15 pm
a short time ago i was standing next to a crowd this anime runs on a person with ace. so it was an undercover cop trying to infiltrate the square and gather intelligence information and while i was there he was badly beaten and graduate's what i was told was one of these security holding cells that apparently are at various points around the square it is a parameter around the square you cannot just simply intrigue me to see why and even when you say there are volunteer protesters who are checking your i.d. taking your passport and this is their way of maintaining control but the same is happening on the other side where if these three hundred protesters have been arrested by the security for the part they playing in these demonstrations. today why aren't the protests is accepting those recent concessions made by the military really just just how long is this arm rest look like it's a loss this time. i think no one can really say for how long this is going to continue certainly for here the focus is very much on what's happening right now i
2:16 pm
mean the point is that the military council to step down immediately but i think trying to ask some of the protesters what they think and what they want to happen often with an arm that school they not becchio the committee for its side has been holding these crisis talks it's been trying to introduce reforms it now says that it will insist that the parliamentary elections go ahead on monday that it will be holding these presidential elections next year june but the fact that the violence continues and the fact that there is this heavy handedness from the security personnel that's a crutch from any kind of promises any kind of token any kind of restraint that is coming from the military council people there saying that the heavy handedness of the security is a crow back and a reminder to the drop days of force in the bar of course here thank you very much indeed for that live update from tahrir square in cairo or joining us next is political analysts and journalists talk to oman a shabby thank you very much indeed for being with us here on r.t.
2:17 pm
and i trust that you are. going to be joining us in just a moment thank you very much indeed they were in beirut now egyptians are calling for the only officers to resign immediately in favor of a civilian government but is there any other alternative ready to rule the country which is so unstable moment with violence and crime and of course those protests getting more and more stronger now. yes well let's go back to last year when the actual revolution started the demand was to change the system not to change the particular individual and that system did not change in fact it got even worse so according to some of the demonstrators and some of the movements of your square that we've been in contact with. the practice is the same in fact is that on par with general powell who's the head of the military council was very close to mr mubarak and therefore he's continuing with the same practices. he recently appeared
2:18 pm
on television and live address where he actually blamed the demonstrators for the economic situation is that it's getting worse day by day. unemployment rates are very high the economy is collapsing you have really serious nutrition you have serious problems with the. literacy you have problems with health there are some serious problems that i think egyptian society is suffering for they have some practical. services. timing yes this is story and everything you've been talking about all those elements rest surely that was all going to change this is a military government in transition and promised to hold elections and indeed those elections are supposed to be happening very soon so why is it that these protesters have run out of patience and started protesting right now so close to going to the ballot box. yes well the military council had promised earlier last year they
2:19 pm
promised that they were going to step down and give more power to the military a civilian government and that did not actually take place and the situation was getting worse by the day and the people were not realizing that there is any substantial concrete changes that would make their life or their standard of living improve in any way not only on the political level not on the freedom ever on the you know the army also arrested a large number of people who are critical of some of the practices of the army and the recent speech by mr don powell and i repeat was really created a lot of anger on the part of the people because it was similar to the speeches of mr mubarak where he blames the masses he blames the people and i think there is a mood also in egypt there are some movements who actually believe that there is some foreign external pressure to maintain the military ruler in place and to maintain the military council in control of the situation because it suits some of
2:20 pm
the interests of western powers and that is also unacceptable this revolution is from the egyptian people and today in paris where the egyptians are saying that they want a change they want a better government they just just don't want to move all of the specific individuals they want a change in the whole system what about what we're seeing is it indicative of what could be happening on a wider scale we're seeing a second wave of arab revolution going on there the moment we see arab countries following suit ones which have seen all the rest recently. and well i think that yes we could this is egypt is at the heart of the arab world this is the most populated arab country that has a strategic positioning on a geographical level when it comes to geopolitics this is the core of really. our culture and i think this would push other peoples all around the arab world to
2:21 pm
actually move towards rebelling against peace standard of living that does not diminish. the minimum level for to protect human dignity the arabs and i think the people on the streets feel humiliated by their governments and they are reacting now but however i want to be friendship between two different different elements here there is what the people want and the movement of the people and there are also the western interests and the interests of the great powers they don't these two these two elements don't always meet and in fact it suits the west and i think it's the american specifically to have a military council and a government in egypt that would maintain american policy and protect american interests were especially when it comes to israel and doesn't actually suit the western interests when there is a democratic government in egypt where the egyptians have their say and their say. for the state in palestine for us and that will create more tension with israel and
2:22 pm
that would harm american interests in the region political analysts and also dr oman a shabby thank you for your time live on r.t. thank you thank you. a euro's future resounding in the heart of europe the european commission president one of the single currency could collapse unless governments are more economically integrated cruciferous that germany is being dragged into the crisis but it is just going for its worst bond auction ever on its max keiser told me earlier the burden is now only concerned with saving itself. germany is on principle against buying up e.c.b. bonds are monetizing e.c.v. bonds but the bundesbank was buying up the boned bonds so it's ok for germany but it's not ok for the eurozone and this is just opening up all the antagonisms between all these european countries they're all was supposed to restore peace and harmony i'm in the euro zone but they're breaking down along. country by country divisiveness once again and this can't end good because these countries let's not
2:23 pm
forget have spent hundreds of years at each other's throats now we're back at it you have to understand this is a systemic problem that requires a totally architecting of the system and a total execution in one way or another all these facts that are just predatory leeches cancer on the system they add no value they simply make things worse not take a profit from the chaos think of in terms of this recent offering of groupon which was a known and notorious ponzi scheme they took it public for eighteen billion which crashed through the i.p.o. price trading for many billions of dollars less but for a brief shining moment it looked good so this is what they're trying to do in the eurozone they're trying to refloat trillions of debt and say it's a brand new day and look great for about maybe twenty minutes but then we'll be back to exactly where we were where we started which is
2:24 pm
a massive debt deal leveraging sovereignty being lost among all these euro zone countries and predatory i.m.f. bankers on the loose room bankers looking to destabilize countries for a quick buck. that's max keiser point really learned all of our stories and more dot com the anniversary proved police in opposition supporters battle in ukraine streets parking seven years since what has become known as the orange revolution plus. the bomber struggles to resume a speech his protest is interrupted with calls and during what made them angry dot com. so that to bring you up to date from about the summer of on the new stories in about five minutes from now the meantime business is next with kareena. hello and welcome to our. business in the south thanks for joining me foreign
