potential if you think there's nothing you can do to fix all the world's problems and the rich just keep getting richer if their technocrats patrons of the fed weren't so powerful i'll tell you why wall street hopes we never figure this one out. to the best of the rest of the news the effort to put wisconsin governor scott walker on a recall ballot is more than half complete we're going to groups leading the way and i had wisconsin and the recall walker committee more than two hundred seventy thousand signatures of already been collected in the badger state mean organizers are halfway to collecting the five hundred forty thousand signatures necessary to trigger a recall election several polls in wisconsin revealed growing majority support in the recall effort a poll from wisconsin public radio showing those in favor of recalling walker up nine points since the spring to fifty eight percent for the latest on what's
11:31 pm
happening on the ground was constant scott walker recall campaign i'm joined by john nichols washington correspondent for the nation magazine john welcome it's good to be with you john thank you john you write about how under scott walker wisconsin now leads the u.s. in job losses why is that and to what extent might that be new fueling this move to recall. well i think it's a really critical part of the move to recall the governor the governor has made a very big deal about comparing wisconsin to other states and suggesting that his agenda one of attacking public service unions cutting funding for schools cutting funding for public services is the right way to go that this austerity approach is the one that will solve the problems of wisconsin and that other states should have its aid even went before congress and made that case earlier this year and he's always compared was constant to illinois
11:32 pm
a neighboring state to the south which has obviously chicago a lot of big cities a lot of challenges well last month ellen no i led the nation in job growth despite the fact that it had increased taxes and worked very hard to maintain public services and education funding whereas wisconsin under scott walker now leads the nation in job losses ninety seven hundred jobs lost just last month while now with regard to those the petition drive that's going on right now in oregon when we had public financing of campaigns in the portland city council race there when i was living there and doing radio from there the there was an apparent attempt to sabotage one of the candidates by a lot of conservatives signing phony names on petitions so that this particular candidate thought she had enough names to qualify for funding when in fact she wouldn't a few of them were names like don duck but most actually seemed
11:33 pm
a real and credible do you have any indications i mean the good news from portland is she ended up with enough signatures anyway but do you have any indications of something like this happening in wisconsin particularly after that con conservative was blogging about how he was going to get signatures and then burn the petitions i mean burning the petitions is a crime i'm assuming signing a phony name to one is not or if it is it's harder to track down. much harder to track down and i'm sure you'll see a few elements of this town but i've been out around the state in small towns like burlington miscounts and i've watched the petitioning going on two things are very important understand one this is an incredibly well organized petition drive with very serious people doing the work of it and so i just don't see a lot of of that sort of gaming of the process going on in part because so much of this gathering is being done person to person in small towns and in neighborhoods where folks actually know the people that are signing so i am sure they'll be some
11:34 pm
some problems on the edges of the thing but most of the indications so far are that these signatures that are being gathered are valid and they've already been checked remember this group united wisconsin that is driving this process has set up a very sophisticated system for running petitions that are gathered through a process checking the names checking them against voter registers checking them against. tabulations of people who have already indicated they want to sign so i think they're in pretty solid shape that's great in addition to living and working in madison wisconsin john you're also the washington reporter for the nation and a pretty keen observer of trends all across the country is a possible what we're seeing in ohio and now apparently wisconsin is predictive of a blog election in two thousand and twelve. well it's particular something really important and that is that if organized labor community groups environmental groups progressive groups get serious about issue oriented challenges to corporate and
11:35 pm
political power it can go places that they never even imagined the ohio petition drive gathered almost four times as many signatures as they needed or really could can do anticipate was possible in wisconsin it looks like a similar process is taking place and we saw something like this up in maine when they did the veto referendum on voter id where they overturned there are i'm sorry same day registration where they overturned an assault on same day registration so i think what we're really learning here is that progressive groups may have under shot they may have told their punches in the past by not trying for some big ticket wins on fundamental issues if they do that then i think they will influence the politics of two thousand and twelve and then if democrats embrace this more aggressive more issue oriented issue embracing politics i think there are real possibilities and of course this is the the ultimate challenge to the republican
11:36 pm
politics of austerity put the issues on the ballot put the candidates on the ballot force the force these matters and then let's see where people line up most indications are especially from the success of ohio but also from what's going on in wisconsin that when you put that challenge forward people don't want austerity what they want is sensible tax policies and an approach that respects our public employees and farms our public schools and our public services. and it seems that that's well we'll see we'll see how it all shakes out i think is absolutely solid analysis john thanks so much for being with us tonight thank you tom it's great to be with you and thanks for covering this. my pleasure course collected enough signatures to get walker's name on the ballot is the easy part the hard part will be overcoming the tens of millions in secret corporate cash that is going to blanket the airwaves of the state of wisconsin with the phony front groups once the
11:37 pm
recall election begins stay tuned. it's the good the bad of the very very low gothic lee ugly good. federal judge judge breakoff today judge raycroft nixed a two hundred eighty five million dollars settlement deal between mega bank city group and the securities exchange commission s e c arguing that letting citigroup just write a check to get off the hook for its i crimes is not quote in the public interest. is this issue judge raycroft ordered instead that the case against citigroup should go to a public while he wrote in any case like this that touches on the transparency of financial markets which gyrations have so depressed our economy and debilitated our

lives there is an overriding public interest in knowing the truth well said let's put the bankers on trial the bad bill lumen the waco maybe wacko georgia resident who owns the company us crane's just put in place a new company policy vowing to not hire anyone until president obama is out of office he's plastered the message on the side of his company truck to use facebook posts indicate he is a obama conspiracy theorist and islamophobia and a confederate sympathizer claims that he has people he wants to hire but won't do it unless some things change in d.c. i've got people that i want to hire now and i don't forsee that i'll be able to afford it and some things change and in d.c. you have spent ten years in marine corps protecting the rights of people who want to do your job actually the first amendment and the second amendment and the bill of rights and lord knows or call me at two o'clock in the morning all night long and voicing their opinion and i respect their right to do that. i'm getting
11:39 pm
a reaction a lot of it's negative now but a lot of people are waking up i guess no one told. president obama has offered up several tax breaks to small businesses just like his including a four thousand dollars tax credit to hire long term unemployed people and tax credits to hire veterans. only to have those tax breaks filibustered by republicans in the sun so much for people like lumen being considered job creators and the very very ugly liz cheney in an interview with g.o.p. t.v.'s so-called news cheney proved that like her father she's living on another planet. and president of the united states has put no serious plan on the table for dealing with entitlements which is the biggest challenge that we face economically right now the president added states i don't think made a single phone call to people on the supercommittee i talked to one republican member of the super committee who said he reached out numerous times to the white house to say we want a deal we need
11:40 pm
a deal and was completely given the back of his hand there was no effort here the president basically seemed to have made the calculation that he's going to let the next thirteen months and the american economy slide for the sake of his own you know i'm going to ask you whether it's going to be exactly what political benefit is there for a sitting president to let the economy crash. get into that but in psychology there's something called projection bias lose cheney just committed it basically it's when someone denies their own thoughts and motivations by projecting them on to others as in liz cheney denying that she and other republicans like mitch mcconnell support letting the economy crash to assure the president obama's a one term president by accusing president obama of doing the same thing maybe she could use a few more therapy sessions because it's very very. coming up the designs daily take i'll tell you why we all have something to learn from the good people of north dakota and we better study up just.
11:41 pm
what drives the world the fear mongering used by politicians who makes decision to breakthrough had already been made who can you trust no one who is imbue it with a global mission a receipt where we had a state controlled capitalism is called fascism when nobody dares to ask and we do our t. question more.
11:42 pm
so sometimes you know what you know and sometimes you know you don't know and sometimes is the firesign theater says everything you know is wrong. i don't know but you know what you want me or your right. to make. sure. you're always right. if you stop take a look at all the turmoil and instability we currently face in the world and felt completely helpless about fixing it have you come to the conclusion that making a difference or making the world a better place is an abstract notion better left to the rich and powerful fancier yes to either question than everything you know about your power to bring about a transformation in the world is wrong according to world renowned authors who believe that each of us have the potential to impact change and that working together we can create
11:43 pm
a new world that most of us only dream about they say that that dream is now a reality in that we're all parts of a new hole that is forming collectively members of something great and according to them we all can play a part in this moment and momentous time in our history their new book the golden motorcycle gang a story of transformation tells the story of all of humanity they've unlock the secrets of harnessing the potential in all of us as a collective human species to really work in unison to create a world that has never existed before joining me now to share this insight our jack canfield the co-author of the new york times number one best selling chicken soup for the soul series which is sold more than five hundred million copies in forty seven languages jack is also the c.e.o. of the canfield training group in the founder the transformational leadership council also joining us tonight is william gladstone best known for his international bestseller the twelve is also the co-author of tapping the source and co-producer of that film and he heads up waterside productions also working as a literary agent for many bestselling authors in the industry jack bill welcome to
11:44 pm
the program our pleasure. great to be on your show tom thank you i'm i'm curious what inspired let me start with you jack what inspired the golden motorcycle gang book. but basically it's a wake up call for people to wake up and realize we have a whole lot much more power and we all have a life purpose that we need to fulfill and the title comes from when i was in graduate school and i had a vision of before i was born actually choosing to be born and to want to contribute it was during world war two when i was born i want to make a contribution to come up with a world that would work for everybody more peaceful more loving more money more cooperate of all the things you talk about on your show create a world that works for all of us not just for some of us and all the people that i meet and work with people members of that gang there are people who are committed to transformation and so it's really kind of a spiritually funloving activist group of people who have identified themselves as people who work together through organizations like the transformational leadership
11:45 pm
council the evolutionary leaders group groups like that bill what is the golden motorcycle gang. well there's two levels of it in the book the gold motorcycle gang is first the group of spirit beings that jack envisioned himself traveling through space with when he decided to incarnate and see if you could help this little blue planet out but in reality the gold motorcycle gang is all of us who feel that there is a need for change and a need to take action and to work together to create a world that really works for all seven billion people on this planet and build you wrote a book about two thousand and twelve and this book talks a lot about two thousand and twelve what do you believe is the significance when i wrote my novel the twelve i was communicating the message that i had been given and a near death experience that twenty twelve really is about transformation it's not about the end of the world it's about an opportunity to switch the cycle according
11:46 pm
to scientists has been going on for twenty six thousand years we have a change in the wobble in the rotation of planet earth that takes twenty six thousand years to complete and somehow the mayan said into it in that same period of time for their calendar and when i met with jack and with barbara marx hovered we discussed how twenty twelve december twenty first and december twenty second really marks the end of this cycle and therefore is the beginning of a new cycle and what is this new cycle going to be it's up to us to focus our attention to be sure that this is going to be the positive cycle that actually has been prophesies not just by the mayans but by the hindus by the hawaiians by the tibetans and by many many other cultures throughout history apropos to that jack rather than fearing that we're heading for doom and gloom scenarios how can we harness this critical time in our history to create positive change. well i think we have to be the positive change gandhi said be the change you want to see in the world so you see the occupy wall street movement all the people are getting
11:47 pm
involved you just talked about the voters doing registrations in ohio and wisconsin and so forth and what happens is that all of us can step up and be ourselves we believe that every person has a gift to give whether that whether they're a therapist a broadcaster a musician a doctor whatever it might be if everyone comes up and steps up to the plate and fully is themselves and we both also believe in turning into inner guidance through meditation through paying attention to the signs around you and just fully self actual as yourself that everything that needs to be done will be done but we need to come together and do it in a cooperate of synergistic way rather than being out there feeling like we're the lone ranger the two of you collaborated with futurist and visionary barbara marx hubbard on this book she is the leader of the cult or a leader of the conscious evolution movement and is planning a planetary birthday celebration december twenty second two thousand and twelve a new beginning to celebrate
11:48 pm
a more co-created compassionate collaborative and synergistic world barbara says that she believes she came here to make a difference in the world and recounts five questions we can use to identify four members of the golden motorcycle gang i'm curious both you maybe want to take a couple each one of those five questions. well the first question is do you remember the original contract the original plan and basically barbara believes that there is an evolutionary plan that's unfolding in that the lot of people myself bill barbara have tapped into what that is and that because we do a lot of inner work and that a lot of people do remember that the second question is you remember your original contract do you remember choosing to be born and some myself again and barbara many people actually have a memory of that that we chose to be born at this time there's actually hip gnosis people that do hypnotic age regression have it hypnotized over two thousand people and when they're in this hypnotic state actually go back to before they were born and they actually remember choosing to be born choosing what race to be choosing
11:49 pm
what. problems they wanted to be facing in the world to develop certain qualities but many many people have chosen to be here at this time in history to contribute to make a difference and another you want to take a lot of questions a. fourth question is what is your unique gift. and then the fifth question which is to me the most important what do you need now what resources so that you can give your gift and this is really the critical question because you don't necessarily have to remember that you signed a contract or that you were part of the plan but you do have a gift and to give your gift to the planet at this particular time is what we believe we're all here to do and in our book the gold motorcycle gang we've actually listed in the appendices many many organizations that are resources for you out there no matter what your particular gift is where you can connect with others and share what you've learned what is working in your community so that it
11:50 pm
can work on a global level they really need to share what works we're so much news about what isn't working and yet there are millions and millions of people doing things that do work and the synergistic collection of that on the internet are things leading up to this event on the twenty twelve which is the birth of a new era and to celebrate that come together by participating and being activists we all really need to be active at this time in history that's that's great bill williams jack thank you both for being with us tonight. you're welcome it's a pleasure tom keep up the great work now what you know about your power as an individual to bring about meaningful change in the world is right almost to find out more about joining the golden motorcycle gang log on to gold and motorcycle gang dot com or follow bill and jack twitter at join jeanne.
11:51 pm
do you know who elizabeth duke is how about donald cohn or kevin ward no. because you should because while congress was debating back in two thousand and eight whether or not to bail out the banks toure's with a seven hundred billion dollars blank check these guys and girls were just doing it they were funneling seven point seven trillion dollars to wall street under the table without one constituent phone call without worrying about one alexion without having to give one explanation they were able to do this these three were able to pull this off because the members of the federal reserve board of governors a group of people who are not voted into office but have the power to completely
11:52 pm
dictate monetary policy in the united states they are not politicians they're technocrats they're bankers and financial experts technocrats aren't interested generally in democracy it's not what they do takes too long off in the interest of the majority the voters don't quite line up with the interests of the majority the bankers and foreign investors are put in today's terms the interests of the ninety nine percent rarely line up with the interests of the one percent and that's why back in two thousand and eight the technocrats at the fed weren't interested in waiting for congress with all of its open debating constituent services to bail out the banks they just went ahead and did it themselves according to documents obtained by bloomberg news in two thousand and nine the fed dished out seven point seven trillion dollars in no strings attached super low interest loans to wall street's biggest players. that's seven point seven
11:53 pm
trillion the entire g.d.p. of our nation is fifteen trillion that's more than half of the total value of everything every single thing produced in america that same year seven point seven trillion dollars went out the door to those banks toure's with nobody bothering to inform you or me the voters the electorate anybody about it until now and since they were super low interest loans in the bank roll that money over they made enormous profits off six of our nation's biggest banks like morgan stanley bank of america pocketed a not too shabby thirteen billion dollars in profits that up until now were undisclosed thanks to this deal that they made with the technocrats at the fed so today thanks to a decision made by technocrats and not politicians the too big to fail banks are
11:54 pm
even bigger and wall street has raked in more profit in just the last thirty months than they did in the entire eight years leading up to the two thousand and eight financial crisis and they weren't doing too shabby that i guess the economic crisis that brought banks there is to the ledge end up being very lucrative for them in the long run but the bigger picture for this is can our democracy survive future financial crisis as the world descends into financial turmoil and fears of the you or erode zone may collapse it's the technocrats who are taking power they're replacing elected officials the clearest example of this is what happened in greece a few weeks ago in order to preserve the euro keep financial markets steady and ensure that foreign investors have what there's the technocrats of the i.m.f. and the european central bank demanded the greece take a bailout. knowing that a bailout would mean more layoffs higher taxes and loss benefits for the greek
11:55 pm
people great prime minister george papandreou wanted to hold a national referendum a national vote on whether or not to take that bailout just like iceland and done a year earlier he wanted the people of greece through democracy to determine their own fate never happened just floating the idea because papa drove his job he was forced out of office and replaced by a technocrat lucas papademos who just so happened to be the former vice president of the european central bank probably because when the icelandic people were asked in a national referendum if they should take austerity cuts to bail out their banks they said overwhelmingly hell no let the banks fail so with a technocrat in charge in greece there will be no vote a bailed out bailout bailout will be shoved down the throat of the greek people and so too will painful austerity anything to keep the banks are happy new york times
11:56 pm
op ed columnist ross douthat laid out this new reality of technocrat control in a recent article in which he wrote for the inhabitants of italy and greece who have just watched democratically elected governments toppled by pressure from financier's european union bureaucrats and foreign heads of state evokes the cold reality of twenty first century politics democracy may be nice in theory but as a time of crisis it's the technocrats who get to call the shots national sovereignty is a pretty concept but the survival of the european common currency comes first. all signs indicate that will be confronted with this problem once again in the united states as another financial crisis big caused by europe or some other bubble like student debt or housing seems like a foregone conclusion at this point and when it hits the fan and the american people tell congress no way in hell they signed off on of the bailout of wall
11:57 pm
street then expect the technocrats of the fed to take over again in our democracy will be irrelevant just like it was in two thousand and eight two thousand and nine that's why we the people need to take back control of the fed and why the people of europe need to take back control of their central banks and global financial institutions only when the federal reserve becomes an instrument of the people to call in the mood swings of the market and not a piggy bank for transactional banking corporations can we really protect ourselves from a technocratic takeover in the future and the way to do that's pretty straightforward it was alexander hamilton so idea back in the george washington the ministration at the central bank owned by the u.s. government and run by the treasury department so all the profits from banking go directly into the treasury thus you and i paid less in taxes and the bankers on wall street can get a job at wal-mart good people in north dakota did just that back in one nine hundred nineteen establish something very much like this the bank of north dakota
11:58 pm
and it's kept that state in the black and kept its farmers manufacturers and students protected from the predations of new york banks toure's for nearly a century it's time for every state to charter their own state bank just like north dakota did and for the treasury department either by the fed from the for profit banks that own it or simply nationalize it only when we get control of our money out of the hands of sociopathic banks toure's our democracy begin to function for all the people instead of just for the banks years. as the big picture for tonight for more information on the stories we covered visit our website to tom hartman dot com free speech dot org and. it also check out our two you tube channel is there a link to thom hartmann dot com also to harmon i can check out the different ways you can send us your feedback and don't forget democracy begins when you get out there and get active tag your it occupy something we'll see them.
