thousands go out onto the streets of central moscow to contest the outcome of a sunday's parliamentary election. the rally has attracted people of different political persuasions amid calls for the protests to remain small joins me now i live from central moscow. the u.k. bows out of a. deal to save the euro shattering the unity dream and leaving the rest to work out a new budget rules on taxes all amongst themselves. between a rock and a hard place israeli rockets. sending gazans to seek a better future even in

a war ravaged libya. a very warm welcome to you you're watching artsy live from moscow with me. several thousand people have now gathered in central moscow in protest of the results of sunday's parliamentary vote the opposition claims the election was rigged and as is the bonding and he won and he said standing by live for us let's get the latest from a nice or so you were at the site of the meeting i tell us what you see that. right in terms of the number of people here estimates range from sixteen to twenty five thousand we have official figures from the ministry of internal affairs which puts it at twenty thousand on the actual eyes square here which was sanctioned for thirty thousand people and about five thousand in the. surrounding street areas
7:02 am
there was earlier people who gathered had revolution square which was originally where organizers wanted to hold this protest they didn't get permission to be there they did get permission here and thousands of people really have moved peacefully from revolution square to the square here in central moscow not far at all from the kremlin all the people here from very different political backgrounds some people just here to call for free and fair elections and that's the thing that unites all of these parties and just people who have come out to show their solidarity they want to be part of this movement for fair elections and the symbol really has become these white flowers or white ribbons that organizers have really pushed forward as the movement's color or signature kind of symbols that we're seeing here on the streets and also we understand that as you said the demonstrators are calling for free and fair elections we also want to stop the russian authorities. have deemed the use of deem these protests allowable but what about the russian leadership itself what is its reaction actually been to the situation. with both
7:03 am
president medvedev and prime minister vladimir putin has said that everyone has a right to come out and voice their demands in terms of the elections they claim that they were fair that investigations will be launched into any kind of force of occasions what we did hear in terms of much stronger criticism about the situation was particularly from prime minister demerit points and about secretary of state hillary clinton statements that the elections in russia were neither free or fair basically he pointed out that that's crossing the line and that no country other than russia has a right to decide or make points about its democracy and he says we understand we have you know domestic issues here at stake up but it's not just a soley focused on moscow there are some leaked documents we understand actually exposing the role that washington has had in the selection process. right i think it's seems fair to say that it's not just rhetoric coming from the state department there's not. the evidence that has come out like you said in the form of e-mails
7:04 am
published by life news here in russia and anyone can go into their site and read in plain english it's very clear that the. observation organization called gaullist is funded partly by the state department because there's very clear evidence that observers that were working out these dumas elections were clearly asking how much money they would be paid for each and every violation that they get so really backing up those claims from the prime minister that that a line is being stepped over at the same time goal is caused. a lawsuit or is planning to launch a lawsuit because those e-mails were obtained illegally but no denial from the organization that those e-mails did in fact contain this kind of evidence about about money and about observing and the fact that the state department was certainly. but it was certainly i should say communicating back and forth with all this i mean so tell us how is the media being a covering these events we do want to be not. misleading them broadcasts from
7:05 am
various western news outlets. indeed out we saw footage covered as shown by fox news that in fact very blatantly was actually footage of the greek capital athens which of course has had protests throughout the years obviously the pictures were much more colorful a lot more entertaining they didn't show up more of a scene of chaos which they were trying to portray as moscow c.n.n. very similar they showed archive footage of last december when the nationalists borderline ethnic rally took place just outside the kremlin and that got quite violent they then filed a correction but certainly we've been seeing a lot of i think it's fair to say exaggeration of the situation here in moscow this is the first day that tens of thousands of people have come out onto the streets and although there have been arrests throughout the week it has been relatively calm here in moscow and he said let's go let's address the issue of the opposition team leaders here just who all of a leading the rallies at the moment so we understand the want to. well my some i
7:06 am
consider to be rather conspicuous ties to washington d.c. . that's right and boris nemtsov who is who you're referring to is probably the most well known in the west at least for now he's been in russian politics for years the former deputy prime minister and he openly doesn't deny that he has supported quite strongly by the national endowment for democracy in washington he often travels to congress and has meetings with us congressman so that's not something he hides but it is something that isn't it seems important to point out with all of these accusations going back and forth that he is here today he was arrested earlier this week at a protest on tuesday and then released another up and coming i think it's fair to say star of the opposition although not affiliated with a political party is and explain the vani is not here he was detained he was arrested on monday at a protest and you do hear a lot about he gets he has very high coverage in western media and they really talk about his anti-corruption movement that's really what his blog is about that's what
7:07 am
he's most well known for here in russia his blogging what they don't focus on is his nationalist line you know he's very keen on giving speeches about how russia is for russians and you can if you want to go onto you tube and actually see footage of some of his speeches made on monday directly after these elections and there's clearly i think some statements that could fairly be being categorized as hate speech to quote him on one phrase on monday he was saying i will go cut their throats of course referring to the government as anybody who really wants to find out more about the russian opposition tran they tend to be highly covered in western media you simply pointed out worry that a lot of people here have made it a point to say that they're not affiliated with a party we have communists here we have galba we have the national bolsheviks who are considered to be very extreme it's really a mix here but a lot of people first of all just out here to call for fair elections are not associated with the. hardy and secondly
7:08 am
a lot of people especially on the sidelines at least from what i can see it seems like they're really here is observers they've come to see what will happen if we go out onto the streets and of course we'll be here all day to see and bring you all the news on what happens that really i think it's certainly fair to say the biggest protests we've seen in russia for years indeed in the summer saying that these are the biggest protests seen in about twenty years since the time of the of the u.s.s.r. and as you were saying up perhaps people there not so much aligning themselves with certain political parties but perhaps showing a form of solidarity with what's going on in our life in central moscow thank you. live updates of the opposition meeting in moscow are available on our web site www dot com. now the dream of a united europe has been dealt a sucker punch by the u.k. after prime minister david cameron snubbed the other twenty six e.u. members london opted out of one of the most important political gatherings in the

region's recent history aimed at saving the single currency cameron a blocked new deal saying he was protecting his country's financial interests and suffering so instead of an old europe pact the treaty term pose sanctions and harmonize budget rules will now have to be agreed upon between individual governments hungry also originally said no to a new treaty but has since changed its mind it is now consulting its parliament to other states are also doing the same the new plan is due to be agreed upon by next march but economics professor argue clamors says it doesn't address the immediate needs of the worst hit countries like greece and ireland. because short of a go look disaster. it's just you need the euro in europe in part that's really the message i'm getting from loose terms of the you know the stock that that's for. certain is not going along which is you know i don't think it's a sensible position to meet. because i don't see the solution. we

get out there. and this summit. going to hold europe group you'll remember folks are only three countries who meet these groups could do in the group don't know i'm sure it will only mean good on each country should make much of it was just what's. always used to tell me we still have nothing to deal with the problems of greece hurt spain portugal ireland and also italy. has not been addressed. without a law from moscow are still to come for you in the program here all for one demonstrators around the world call for the release of one of america's most well known prisoners arguing that his murder conviction was politically motivated. and the president falls on his sword we look at a situation in the caucasus region where anger over

a disputed election threatens to turn bloody. al-qaeda colombia's far guerillas and the occupy in london movement in an attempt to put an end to the months long anti corporate protest london police equated the group to establish terrorist networks and other the authorities later admitted the comparison was over the top and left after activists questioning why a peaceful protest is being viewed as a crime bennett reports. tense dreadlocks even didgeridoos but all the occupy london protesters really terrorists the city's police force seems to think so it sent a letter to banks and businesses in the financial district warning of the terror threat posed by occupy activists it puts them in the same bracket as al qaeda would say to anybody who believes it to come come here and have a look for themselves and see that we are totally peaceful protest is preposterous
7:12 am
to say that the backlash of criticisms force the police to admit its wording was too strong but it stands by its warning to big businesses to remain vigilant issuing this statement we've seen crime linked to protests in recent weeks notably around groups entering office buildings and with that in mind we continue to brief key trusted partners on activity linked to protest this is the building in question occupies so-called bank of ideas activists moved in here nearly three weeks ago it had been empty for months the apparent terrorists now use it for meetings and lectures on how to solve the current crisis they can even count celebrity backers and politicians amongst their guests and a huge number of people want to see a different kind of economic system that's what people here stand for and i want to come and lend solidarity to that the u.k. is complicated laws on squatting mean the owners still haven't been able to vic their new uninvited tenants since the building wasn't in use the activists don't
7:13 am
see why they should leave is it fair though to occupy a private property. is it fair that there's nearly a million buildings empty out there in the u.k. and people freeze to death every winter i would counter that with this so far this is the only building processed as have occupied it belong c.b.s. it was empty before it was taken over as the swiss banks the conviction order for this building beefing up security at its main offices just across the street as they fear the protesters could spread both u.b.s. and the financial services authority refused to comment but they clearly heeding police advice security is tight in the money district. a small group of people recently stormed the offices of a mining company during a national strike they claim to be part of the occupy movement those here though deny any links but that hasn't stopped police tarring them with the same brush it's just unfortunate that some people actually have done that and it's because in

police attention. it's going to label of such as people will get a few bad on it's own you hear it in any organisation and they've said well that they're all like you then on main it's just not true the original occupy camp hopes to keep its protest peaceful evicting anyone using its name as an excuse for violence they might not be al-qaeda but any minority prepared to step the wrong side of the law could play straight into police hands either bennett's london. just on a quarter past the hour here in moscow demonstrations have been held in cities worldwide calling for the really release of a man who until a few days ago was america's most high profile death row president. was in concert thirty years ago for killing a white police officer and still to this day a crime he denies earlier this week a court reduced the sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole his supporters claim the black panther movement member is an innocent political prisoner activist in my cairo says abu jamal deserves

a fair trial which apparently never received. but it is like many other cases in the united states a case where race entered into the prosecution where there are serious questions about the not only the efficacy but the effectiveness and fairness of the trial the elimination of the death penalty in this case it's really only one step and i hope it doesn't mean that now he's going to be consigned to a life without parole and everybody's going to walk away and say ok we won because in fact justice is not been served in this case it's on the record now that the judge was biased racially biased it's on the record that the. police corruption in the in the philadelphia police force involved the suborning of perjury and the actual extortion to get witnesses to perjure themselves this trial was corrupt from the beginning and that's why amnesty and human rights watch and so many other

organizations say justice must be done and say that you've got to start with a fair trial. well if you bear in mind i want you to available on line of thought such as a friend in need of the latest russian aid a convoy leaves for kosovo to help the serbian minority who say that they're being discriminated by the local albanian population. and japan are planning to use that monkey is to measure radiation levels near the fukushima nuclear power plant claiming that helicopters they've been using can provide accurate data. you're watching r.t. now israeli bombs continue to pound palestinian land with four people killed over the just the last few days the latest on a rest saw an exchange of rockets early saturday morning no injuries have been reported tensions across the israeli gaza border flared up on thursday and dozens including children have been wounded any garcelle since this recent wave of strikes

7:24 am
a real cultural shift here what does it say about us as a culture that more so obsessed with buying stuff. that we need to get a life and i think it's because the human nature has a longing for something and they decided to fill it with things instead of a spiritual focus to those things get in the way of our spiritual quest i absolutely believe so because i think distraction is one of the keys to getting humanity off focus it is it's an important anymore so you have it and you feel good and and the euro looking for something else yeah and then you feel bad because you bought something that you didn't need yeah this is happened way before you were born that's how it is yeah times with additional money was made it was made to train the volume was true but the fact that owner was. buying trading making selling is the way to make a living so we're prehistoric caves covered in neon lights with logos plastered all
