angwin. a very warm welcome to you this is r.t. live from moscow syria could be the next object of a foreign military intervention if some opposition groups get their way their call for hours hired help are growing louder insisting it's the only way to protect civilians from government security forces the libya style demand comes despite the latest decision by damascus to allow arab league observers to monitor how the regime dealing with on rest there have been recent reports suggesting that dozens of desert his have been killed by syrian troops as artie's sarah firth the situation in syria now looks more like a civil war than i government cracked. with here in the embattled city of homs and you can hear heavy gunfire in the background that is really hard to share insurance
2:02 pm
as the civilian population here lives here as we're called to wait a month after month they've had to endure this conflict the ongoing violence is taking its toll best had they of the real maybe who is there being suffocated surrounded by armed groups there are many people who can actually had enough who did we do to design this homes as being described as a city only bring in civil war where some of the series fiercest fighting has broken out driving through the streets there are clear signs of conflicts bullet holes in window panes and usually slogans on the walls there's a heavy military presence we went able to visit some of the areas where concentrated fighting was continuing they were deemed too dangerous to visit. but in other areas of the city daily life struggles on movies and to the backdrop of gunfire. you can see that shows i'm playing here in the homes that this is the one of the major. conflict continues for the safety of the civilians to continue
2:03 pm
living here in the situation in homes right now is far more complex than simply one of the opposition against the regime has a deep seated sectarian conflicts have with their heads. from the very beginning to home. because the equal numbers of both sects much more than. a military funeral held yesterday gets under way for five soldiers killed by what the government says is an increasingly militant movement and on the same day reports from the opposition the harrowing accounts the civilian deaths around the country make serious decision to allow the arab league to send observers to the more important this is naturally want. to. in the same time preserve our sovereignty so really it depends on the intention do they really want
2:04 pm
to help syria or corner so was the decision by the main opposition outside the country yes and see. the opposition inside the country has welcomed in the north. we hope it's going to be implemented on the ground as it stated in the protocol and we remain completely against international intervention it would lead the country into destruction. with a fractious opposition and rising death toll with facts and information still very hard to verify even on the ground the observers a rival here in syria will be an important step but it's going to be just one of many more that we need to follow and seeing to ensure that no more lies. the city of homs. or for more on the ongoing violence in syria i'm now joined by regional expert dr klein from amman jordan many thanks for joining us
2:05 pm
here on our. opposition leaders from syria's national council which was formed in istanbul a calling for military intervention for the sake of preventing civilian deaths do you think that this would help improve the situation in syria. well of course i mean this is totally unacceptable not only to the syrian government but it is unacceptable to us even to the rest of the arabs and it is unacceptable to the syrian people we know how the syrian people feel they're all against foreign intervention and we've seen what foreign intervention has done in other countries in iraq for example and in libya recently it was a disaster so nobody no arab i think not only let alone the syrians no arab would welcome a foreign intervention but these people the so-called opposition has gone out of their minds i think that just lost and they're beginning actually to lose
2:06 pm
contact complete contact with the syrian people it's a simple as that so this is totally unacceptable and it is illegal i think also i mean to call for foreign intervention for destruction the destruction of that country this is almost it is treason actually dr gates is a reasonable call doctor gets the best just take a step back why then do you think that they are calling for this kind of action on lest they think that it could justifiably help the situation inside syria. there well i don't think so i think that they're desperate these people are desperate they want power they they of course they want to topple the syrian regime and they don't care about the country you know even if the country is destroyed as long as there is toppled as long as they. gain power that they don't care much about their own homeland after all they've been out of their country for
2:07 pm
a long time and i don't think they have anybody who called so foreign intervention is actually a miracle not only to the syrian government but to the syrian people to the syrian homeland so this is totally unacceptable and i think that the internal opposition what i call the patty arctic op. inside syria is against foreign intervention like for example the popular front for change liberation now these people are a genuine opposition group that against. foreign intervention against despotism as well they want democracy they want social justice but at the same time that against any foreign intervention and the sitting government to get to open dialogue with these. groups who are truly proud to be article into law who want the good of syria a good. series moving on a serious national council has slammed the government's decision to let outside
2:08 pm
observers describing it as just a ploy while all the opposition groups inside the country say that they see it as a step towards peace what do you think this tells us about the position of the opposition movement within syria. well naturally it is first of all a divided opposition totally divided you know it's not only two divisions of many divisions actually it's a very divided opposition very unconvincing to the syrian people and to us to the whole people in the nobody is convinced of such an opposition the majority of them want foreign intervention and therefore they are rejected the syrian government never open dialogue with such people as for the internal opposition the leftist the secular opposition you article position we welcome such an opposition we support such an opposition and we urge the syrian government to come to terms with such an opposition like the popular front for change liberation but the other
2:09 pm
opposition those who are calling for foreign intervention are totally rejected and there are actually. i'm sure the majority of the syrian people are also against them these people do not want. the good of syria and it's a simple as that of course it's a very divided opposition. a political analyst many thanks for speaking to us from jordan. thank you. ok so to come this hour on the program beaten up by the clock bungles it's a bailout cash deadline as the blog struggles to convince member states to chip in for the commented on the euro also. we're going to be transformative moment movement for example an economic justice in america not backing down the occupy movement gains momentum after three solid months of that wild ride we say against

survivors upon arrival filled likely be an experience that will haunt them for a lifetime. swam away from the rig a bit turned round inside capsize then i started swimming away as fast as possible in fear that i could be drawn into the board tax but those found alive you can see that in comparison they are the fortunate few dozens are still missing in the icy hoxsey following more than two days of searching planes are flying sorties to try and locate those lost and they're being accompanied by boats in the area but the hours spent scouring the horizon so far prefer lists as only the numbers found dead appear to grow and angry relatives for they know just who is to blame and seem to like why did they need so many sixty seven people and then rick why what was the purpose of having six to seven people there. yes you know it down the path i'm the wife of captain because look you for the voyage here dressed every official morning down there to talk to him was prohibited in the winter months because of the heat
2:12 pm
it may have been one of the largest oil rigs in russia but disappeared beneath the waves in a matter of minutes on the other what was four years old two years investigators are looking into three possible causes of the accident was of course firstly it could have been due to violations of safety regulations during the tugging of the drilling rig one. the condition of the rig itself might be to blame and lastly. the decision to judge the rig much to be taken without proper consideration of the weather conditions of the wreck site. the official findings will take some time whatever the outcome for the families of those involved with little comfort to come to terms with losing their loved ones so the more experience the hope remains alive the possibility discovering further survivors appears slim. sokolich and russia's far east. will of course continue to follow the rescue operation for instance they

stuff full interview with hans blix next hour here on r.t. ok public apologies and barras thing i've been nations the fate of one of russia's opposition leaders after recording from some of his phone conversations surfaced online but is them soft could face a split within the ranks of these insulting words to describe his allies. cowardly penguins were among the least offensive terms used artist on boston reports. the revelations were published in life news dot ru a notoriously tabloid sensationalist website in russia and they concern six hours of private phone conversations recorded boris nemtsov an opposition figure in which he insults fellow opposition leaders using very profane language and calls protesters so how would lead penguins and internet comes to those protesters turning out on the reports of widespread vote rigging in december's parliamentary

elections boris nemtsov one of the all going ises of the protests has hit back saying that this is kremlin phone tapping and that they've been released these phone conversations to try and discredit him and to split the opposition he doesn't ever admit that some of the phone conversations did happen and he's apologized for any insult caused in those but he says the others were falsified life news is oh no for its part has also added to the controversy by refusing to say where they got the recordings from and all of this is caused a great storm of controversy on the internet with people shocked by themselves words and his use of language about other opposition figures and the possible splits in russia's opposition that that could indicate morgan spirity and russian political life isn't just a case of internal affairs talk our website dot com where we look at how washington's ban in moscow is playing politics to another country under the

a general positive attitude towards the move until now it is mostly big businesses and politicians that are really enjoying the transition there are clearly some political advantage in terms of if you want locking a stone you're more firmly in the. economic advantages as well in terms of investment the support for the euro is holding up very well people seem to be to see the advantages you may be politically wrasslin economically but the euro what gulshan party soon brought painful hangover since september story has agreed to take part in the group in financial stability facility the body created to combat financial crisis and bail out countries like greece has now experts say this membership comes at a price and can not afford to buy the formula for us very bad because we need to. or or. from our g.d.p.

tallinn in a stony. police. dozens of demonstrators who set fire to their shelters following attempts to evict them it comes after protests recently mol three months since the start of the movement against corporate greed in the us. reports from where it all began. these are the images of america over the last three months that cops are must be smacking them selves in the forehead because they've given such a life to this movement not welcome by authorities a movement against wall street wealth inequality and government corruption exploded in new york and spread all across the us the nexus of all of our grievances was the profit motive the fact that. the corporate sector dominated by the financial sector has our ostensibly democratic politics in gridlock and owns it.

all supply wall street has just watched its three month anniversary what we fall into on september seventeenth with this momentous moment of restoration in anger when the president has time now i think that we've kind of injected the idea of economic inequality and see the public discourse how can my wall street class try to get that it would not last long enough to deliver any significant message but three months into the biggest nationwide movement the west has seen in years it's clear that the protesters are feeling stronger and more united than to be one critic said the protests would not survive until winter they have we can't fund education we can't fund health care but we could fund the police state and fund these wars until the cows come home at what point is it enough. when does the greed stop opponents said the demonstrations would never track tens of thousands they have to see a peaceful revolution or really what the media ridiculed them is

a joke they just want a party they're going to try to have burning man are they right. but kidding they were not. as many believe the uprising has transformed the face of america it's totally changed the conversation in the united states on saturday the occupiers of new york oxford x. campus after being evicted from zuccotti park. attempted to occupy a new public space to use as their base. but confronted by police about fifty were arrested others kicked out were pretty resilient so i think you know in a short amount of time and you know occupying surely the. demonstrators plan to keep going until they see a revamp of the financial and political system in the us the financial elite is still lording it over everyone the economy is in trouble foreclosures are
