with drones the same ones used against the taliban now they used to spy on u.s. citizens welcome to george orwell's worst nightmare. and civilians are the only ones the u.s. is drumming up unnecessary fears against these days g.o.p. candidates and the media are drumming up fears of iran's nuclear ambitions but the devil is in the details and well there are no details supporting this claim so what's with the rhetoric. and good evening it's thursday january nineteenth seven pm in washington d.c. i'm christine and you're watching our t.v. . all right lots to talk about tonight regarding some new developments just over the last few hours and this is big it started when the feds today shut down mega upload a file sharing service that apparently has more than one hundred fifty million registered users and fifty million daily visitors now it's accused of taking away
7:02 pm
five hundred million dollars from copyright holders so the founders and employees of mega mega upload have been charged by a us grand jury with copyright infringement and at least seven of them have already been arrested agents have also served at least twenty search warrants across the globe now in response the largest attack ever by the hacktivist group anonymous they attacked and successfully shut down the sites for the u.s. department of justice the u.s. copyright office universal news music group the recording industry association of america and the motion picture association of america now you may have heard of some of these anonymous related hacks in the past to take down other government websites but never have they gone after so many at once so right now i've got bare brown founder of project pm also a man who's worked with anonymous on various operations he's in dallas texas right now and i just want to confirm first that this is indeed the largest ever attack is that right. it seems to be nature there were
7:03 pm
a number of targets. that were taken down in some instances for quite a while there were a number of lesser assaults on white house doctor of. defense or of the sort of in style go and sort of industry association was taken down i think it's still the one actually the talk all right so i know that it was these department of justice that actually announced this. we tell you and i guess against mega upload and then you guys went after a u.s. justice department talked to me about why you picked some of the other websites i think i have a hunch that it might have to do with people and then also what can we expect next and i've been keeping my eyes here on on white house but what's what's on the horizon here will be video us into x. or all the being perpetrated under the banner of. america and so you can you can see the extent to which this was prompted these reactions were prompted by
7:04 pm
megaupload who got out in about seven minutes and i thought if that's within seventy minutes about. a new status so you've been announced and on this but a press release and or they can do this. and in a few hours so obviously this this could become of the worst time for and sort of the government's standpoint they could not have chosen a worse time to take down the. coming as this is the after all these web sites blacked out in protest of soak in this obviously the make upload issue because of the flaws in the other issues so now in addition to everything that was planned in terms of attacks and payoffs for today. and several to think of operations you know we were done on the banner of operation may go now in the meantime republican am which includes some unknowns and some others. likewise there who are to the
7:05 pm
washington post both report another operation called operation gone wrong this is the idea that. we've got a number of congressmen switch their votes twenty four hours based on the blackout you know. others. while also. democratic congressman who are still planning to vote yes on sopa and support and the reasoning from their standpoint is that you know they're not going to get anybody you know if you're so many of them that it will go on the road or they'll be able support so no money from the donors moves through and won't it was no change that. now i should fill our viewers and first of all that's a very interesting name for your operation i won't say it again but just for our viewers i want to tell them and just in case they have been sleeping this week. and people stop island online piracy act proposed in the house and the protect ip acts
7:06 pm
proposed in the senate as you mentioned a major change and many lawmakers who were once for it now coming out against it especially after some of these blackouts yesterday by the websites including a pedia google had a symbolic blackout but apparently bear at the government didn't need sopa and pipa to make these arrests today so i'm wondering what you think i mean where does this battle go from here. well i think it would illustrates is that even without so having been past year the federal government always had tremendous powers to do some of the things that they want to do so even without us it is so that this is what would occur without some of the imagine what will occur after so. things of that nature. and we're not going to giving up on this is this is a war that they plan on fighting you know to the end and so we so we can expect a great deal of havoc of the sort of the seats there we're going to see to recede and stuff. more people learning how to use their life oh i see tool that you use in
7:07 pm
taking down a website it's about what i'm going to say but i mean what does it mean when you say this will not and in tell you tell you succeed i mean obviously you succeeded on momentarily or anonymous succeeded momentarily in shutting down some of these web sites but you know they're back up right now what are you hoping to achieve with this is the obama victory will look like this there will not be any more bills for them on the senate with the incidence of doing these things there will be in fact new bills put in by the few technocratic members of the congress will specifically seek to stop these sorts of things and it's not going in for a while this process by which i mean it's going to be impossible for us within just a few weeks or a few days to prevent any more bills to go forward or to prevent things like megaupload from being raided but we can get to that point and it's a number of steps in the first is showing people the lawyers that are congressmen
7:08 pm
except that it's not going to be practical to be on their side because in the long term this is the winning side. now i want to ask you i mean i know you haven't said whether or not you've participated in today's attacks give you the opportunity to say that if you want but but even showing your face on here bear i mean what happened today is certainly illegal. why are you willing to show your face why are you willing to come out and talk about this and affiliate yourself. with what's going on here will let me know when the use since that my hope would be in the early on before i got the ball the nonnes and i have remained no i don't know if i don't care about the rules of america you can you can imagine how much i will go to the world anonymous you know. so i get what we might get is also a more useful. need to send another person with his name to. the human approached by the government all. i have approached some of them oh interesting. they have never come to talk to me they had it with me on investigation that you
7:09 pm
guys reported on that was. in reference to something i had picked off against them and they never came exactly no one talked to him a very lonely person interesting so i guess just finally camp out why should we be watching for here what should we expect to happen next from from the angle of anonymous you know what are they going to do next i say white house dot gov is still up do you think that is going to be successfully taken out tonight if anonymous a smart this point they'll see what's warped in the past few days because it wasn't just. in all of them going down that prompted some ladies of this massive switch and people who were supporting so in the senate and in the house there was also you know it's another of those mind of reference techniques and as we go forward keep finding out would you be techniques has the most bang for your book about it and so as we refine our methodology nights and split into small groups can work together better and more efficiently there's going to be so many things going
7:10 pm
on that's them you know possible to assess. all right. hope you keep us posted on what's going on our t. dot com is certainly reporting on the very latest in all of this it was big news today once again the biggest. takedown by anonymous in its history founder of project pm barrett brown thanks so much. and while so-called hacktivist group take on the government big brother has a new target in mind u.s. citizens but first we have to take a step back and look at the way this country fights wars certainly things have changed a bit from the places our military goes to the weapons it uses want to be some factoids here ten years ago the pentagon owned just about fifty predator drones today they have seven thousand now the pentagon also has asked congress for nearly five billion dollars for more drugs this year and it turns out as we move forward those drones will not just be used to attack suspects suspected terrorists in
7:11 pm
afghanistan and pakistan they will soon start to be used here in the united states and as artie's marina portnoy shows us instead of invading people's cities and towns and he used to invade their privacy. they are the cornerstone of america's military arsenal dropping bombs on bosnia pakistan afghanistan libya and yemen a manned aerial vehicles known as drones have become the trademark of washington's war missions targeted assassinations and spying operations overseas but today the local police departments using unmanned spy plane said to catch suspects the remotely piloted war weapon is flying domestic u.s. local police and federal officials are increasingly using drones under the auspices of keeping citizens city police departments are using them in the united states or not i think almost two hundred sixty six applications that have been approved for police departments to use drones as aerial surveillance devices drones can be armed
7:12 pm
with a wide range of surveillance technology including high powered zoom lenses and infrared ultraviolet images. as the u.s. government flies prying eyes through the sky lawmakers have neglected to create any privacy protections for american citizens all of this is conscious. they're putting in place. controlling and may be unemployed. and i think in their state local police. not just. the big federalized the agencies keep using more and more of these to justify their existence so they can say we need this to crack down on drugs we need this because there are a lot of robberies in this neighborhood we need this the united states is not only
7:13 pm
now a military industrial complex it's a homeland security complex they've merged into one in two thousand and six arrow via. a drone manufacturer received four point seven million dollars from the u.s. defense department to develop new on manned aerial vehicles. the newest and smallest invention is hummingbird a palm sized q looking spy plane weighing less than one pound there can be a very lucrative market in the united states for growth with police departments who are already militarized tanks just saw the call to assault rifles flak jackets the modern police look like the military and so now they're going to be using military equipment first lawsuit has been slapped against the u.s. department of transportation for allegedly withholding records pertaining to the domestic use of drones currently the american public cannot find out why drones are
7:14 pm
being used or who is controlling every corner there's a closed circuit camera watching what you're telling so now we don't only have a law on the ground we have them from the air this month the federal aviation administration is expected to propose new rules making it easier for law enforcement agencies to fly drones to americans democratic sky more weapons used overseas to keep the u.s. safe now being considered a serious threat to u.s. freedom at home marina ports artsy new york. and when it comes to drones the way they're used why they're used there is one man who's been talking about this before just about anyone else and that's radio host alex jones i spoke with him earlier and asked why anyone should be concerned about these new drones since surveillance has been taking place that's been around for years here's his take. fourteen years ago some plainclothes marines showed up out of the t.v.
7:15 pm
studio here in austin wanted to meet with me and they popped a v.h.s. tape in that was a copy. of drones watching myself and my camera man at the time my hands and in northern california and central california and oakland in an urban warfare drill and they said yeah our listeners when we were involved in all this you were being watched and tracked with drones so yes it's been going on a long time but slavery has been going on in history for a long time and it isn't you know right today what happens in africa or of it happened two thousand years ago but yes this is been happening and the military industrial complex is basically through homeland security and north com devouring the united states the red light cameras defense contractor run the mercenary firms defense contractors training police and actually engaging said it's down to running
7:16 pm
private security all of this the data mining the surveillance the most common forms of scholarships now in the last decade. in colleges are for data mining spying on fellow citizens our economy is shifting from manufacturing and farming and textiles to a giant prison grid and the homeland itself is becoming locked down i mean they've got drones with face scanning cameras they've got weaponized drones deployed in the united states and they brag about it protesters six years ago reported in d.c. that they saw big what looked like fake dragon-fly and the media said oh your conspiracy theorist one year later the washington post came out and said no homeland security was a tester with the dragon fly similar to the hummingbird that you showed so they take our tax money and then. militarized the police and use the regular military
7:17 pm
against us they've got rid of posse comment on us that bars the military involved medically they've passed the national defense authorization act showing that alex jones or christine anybody could just disappear black bag goes over our head and wear one more missing person on a milk carton and we're taken to some secret prison or we're just shot in the back of the head and one senators have had this brought up to them graham lieberman former senator santorum they say we will kill citizens and we're already killing citizens and they say it aggressively all right i want to there's a lot to talk about so i just want to make sure we get to all of it because there's a few different things concerning drones in the works here one of them is that next month the federal aviation administration the f.a.a. will be proposing new rules so this isn't something that's just been going on in the past that it's going to continue in the future and these new rules will make it easier for what you were talking about for law enforcement agencies to have permission to use these drones now already they've been used an area wildfires to
7:18 pm
look for hotspots they've been used to cross the border to look for drug traffickers but now it could be a whole new ball game i want to play this clip this was made just a few months ago with a little animation recreating something that actually happened in north dakota. north dakota syrup tell you all cubans looking for six missing. before but through your browser brothers chasuble what they'll call the highway patrol what's in the books one at a predator drone operated by u.s. customs and border protection the drug was used to surveil the property until the grocer brothers were observed it or did this what to make the arrests. all right so missing cattle i mean certainly it can't be ruled out that before we know the local police departments will also use them as well for whatever they want. sure look all the while firefighting and stuff that was just p.r. role the show for a long time they have got in. for red mounted looking through walls if somebody has
7:19 pm
got a hamster cage with a hot light you get a swat team raid that's come out in the new they're going after people growing cucumbers in their basements they're already looking through our walls police departments twenty years ago had trucks that look right through your walls homeland security announced two years ago they've got big trucks look in their people's walls it's on local news in new york and texas that they have the army out with big trucks with families driving through x. ray scanners i mean it is just crazy the military industrial complex is basically declaring war on the american people they've already done it to the rest of the world our government's been seized by the offshore six maggie banks they have hijacked america we're an occupied country they're now just moving to start shutting down free speech and other issues and you're right there is a big acceleration of this now happening and it's extremely creepy and they just announced yesterday that in a bunch of us cities they've already put up body scanners that are on just
7:20 pm
poles street lights that scan people as you walk down the street i mean this is beyond one thousand nine hundred eighty four and how creepy it is and none of it has to do with fighting al qaeda or something as you just showed the animation it's all about oh my gosh this domestic group you know these farmers don't want to hand their property over basically and so now we're going to have the predator drone come after him it's just so scary and it's because the economy is imploding and because our country is run by the big ponzi scheme operators who know they're criminals and don't want to go to jail they're trying to get the military lined up against us like we were the iraqi people and this isn't just as surveillance and you mentioned we've done a lot of talking here on our team as well about the national defense authorization act and law but one fight that we haven't really touched upon included in this legislation. is the plan to allow for six national test sites where drones could
7:21 pm
fly through civil air space now obviously drones are here to stay but i want to get your thoughts on this notion that they'll now be sort of testing here in u.s. air space. well again this is just testing the public this is the rollout and this is to make sure they don't have any problems for the whole program gets in trouble so they can have absolute complete militarization of the sky with ground penetrating radar and infrared they've got ground penetrating radar in small units that can fly on small aircraft now that are unmanned that see black and white images of everything you're doing ten years ago they launched high altitude blimps that have ground penetrating radar that's already looking through our houses i mean this this is beyond anything that that the old soviet union had nazi germany communist china it is any other authoritarian system most other authoritarian systems of the past wouldn't put it on paper that they would just
7:22 pm
secretly grab citizens off the street you disappear they're doing this because they want to intimidate us and as you said they're now preparing the full rollout over these cities and it's all department of defense they have the threat fusion centers that are federalizing police they're training them to spy on neighbors it is beyond creepy what is now unfolding but the good news is the fact that this stuff is now coming you know show out in the open a lot of people that were awake are waking up and i really appreciate your show because i watch it routinely and i know that you cover this every week right radio host alex jones in austin texas weighing in on all things drowned. had our tehran is on the brink of arming its atomic arsenal are so us lawmakers and media outlets would have you think but is it a real threat or is it just a bunch of nonsense question. more when we come back. well
7:23 pm
the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff army general martin dempsey is in israel today and no doubt the number one issue on the agenda was iran there are a few reports out now that show iran has actually abandoned any and all plans to develop nuclear weapons but there are also several reports that suggest at least
7:24 pm
that's not the case the question is how does the rest of the world react to what they think is going on to help me shed some light on all of this earlier i spoke to research director of the national iranian american council reza marashi i asked reza whether he thought iran is in fact in the process of building a nuclear weapon here's what he had to say. well i think it's important to consider what the consensus view or the consensus thoughts of the u.s. government is and in two thousand and seven and again in two thousand and eleven the national intelligence estimate of the united states of america which is a consensus document representing twenty seven intelligence agencies said that from two thousand and three onward they have a high level of confidence that the iranian government had abandoned its intent and its process towards developing a nuclear weapons capability then why is it that we're constantly hearing this talk of you know they're actually not and even if they let the inspectors in to the places that we know about how do we know there's not other places then we hear the
7:25 pm
crazy rhetoric on the campaign trail from a lot of these republican candidates bomb iran bomb iran they want to bomb us first why if if what you say is true that you know this is in the consensus for years is there this other side of this argument that's very prevalent and you know it's a great question and you know the united states and its allies have differing views on this issue particularly when we juxtapose the israeli view to the american view really for the better part of two decades the israeli government has said that iran is one to two years away from developing a nuclear weapons capability and i think the jury's out on this one at this point so i'm more inclined to follow what the american government's view point is because the american viewpoint is proven to be correct over sustained period of time and that being the case because iran hasn't made that decision it actually leaves a fair amount of time to pursue a peaceful diplomatic solution to this problem i think it's important you bring israel out because certainly all eyes are on israel when we talk about the issue of iran and any sort of future violence there but israeli defense minister ehud barak recently said you know a decision about attacking iran even a decision is
7:26 pm
a long way off also this week israel and the united states decided that they would suspend or even stop this military exercises that they had planned so what do you think i mean is this a sign that israel now too is backing off a little bit it's less concerned than we previously thought. the israeli government have been pretty consistent on a few regarding iran and. for the for decades now at this point i think what we're seeing is the most senior level u.s. military official currently in tel aviv doing his israeli counterparts and the israeli government likes to portray or make an appearance of you know close relations and no problems between the two governments particularly when somebody of that stature from the american government is in their country the truth of the matter there are serious and deep divisions over the iran issue between the israeli government and the iranian government and that's why general dempsey is there right now to try to figure out what those differences are and how to bridge the gap
7:27 pm
there's a lot of talk also right now i think it's fair to say from both sides of the aisle politically speaking that president obama should not negotiate meet with talk with . or anyone else you know at the high levels of the iranian government however there is talk i'm sure you've heard of this this letter that the obama administration apparently sent to iran to ayatollah khomeini that says first of all that closing down the strait of hormuz is a red line that it shouldn't happen but also that you know offer to talk so you know the administration i should say has denied ever sending this letter but even if it did what do you think this means which is that change anything i think it means two very important things one that our president is living up to his commitments when he says that he is willing to sit down and have substantial discussions with the iranian government on issues of concern both to united states iran and america's allies about one two and more importantly i think it means that
7:28 pm
the president is attempting to push back and cut through a lot of the rhetoric because it's silly season in washington right now and the president can always tell if he's in washington not exactly just going to agree but particularly now because it's an election season and people are hunkering down on their political positions and trying to box the president in and i think he's doing a good job of demonstrating that his national security credentials are actually. and be that his iraq strategy has been working on not a lot of point to have differences of opinion but that's what he's trying to do right now and i think him pursuing. a willingness on the part of the american government to sit down with the iranian government in concert with america's allies at the negotiating table speeds volumes about the president's willingness to take risks for peace i mean that's certainly your perspective and i think that it's very easy to see that from that point of view the president is willing to negotiate with anyone who is willing to come to the table and at least talk why not what can that hurt however as you are he said and as everybody knows we are in an election year
7:29 pm
and this could be spun. negatively to the president and i want to get your take in terms of all these g.o.p. candidates and the large and loud and roaring up flaws that they get at some of these debates when they talk about iran being a threat when ron paul is the only candidate that's talking about. you know backing off a little bit from iran why is this view so popular that i don't think that the view is necessarily popular because when you look at opinion polling that's taking place not only amongst the american population but even within the republican party itself in the sixtieth percentile they're opposed to war with the wrong i think there's always going to be a minority view that supported a militarized foreign policy in the united states. that was research director for the national iranian american council. and for now adults could do it for us but for more on the stories we cover and go to our team dot com slash usa or check out our youtube page it's youtube dot com slash r t america and you should also follow me on twitter you can find me at christine we will be back here in about thirty
