more open democratic society not just one of these of course is expected to fact tourists which is a very important part of it gyptian economy because tourists don't want to go to the country where they are forced to cover their faces and hands of course since moved in brotherhood is supporting the supreme council of armed forces that took power from mubarak last february the minister that has been the backbone. in egyptian politics since the fall of monarchy in the nineteen fifties means the military will stay longer in power and this is of course something also again something people here in egypt are not happy with because they say they want to do the revolution in two thousand and eleven to get rid of the and they don't want another one which is a miniature dictatorship right now this is how they take the things in egypt right now so again we can expect protests and tensions between military and people on the

streets to escalate. for more on the outcome of egypt's parliamentary election we're joined by yaakov lapin a reporter from the jerusalem post who has covered the muslim brotherhood extensively thanks for joining us here on our t.v. so we've just heard from our correspondent in cairo the country could be headed down a more sectarian islamic road do you think the changes will be drastic. i think eventually they will be drastic because the muslim brotherhood has been preparing for this moment for decades they have a very. detailed agenda for how they wish egypt to look like and it's a very different egypt from what we've known until now they're now going to be trying to consolidate their political power to eject the military from power and then they will begin a series of changes to bring egypt in line with their agenda it's going to be a much more religious conservative place and much more hostile to the west and some members of egypt's ultra islamic party came in second in the vote proposed banning

women and christians from holding office ending alcohol sales cutting the hands off even if you think egypt will get the democracy that so many of the protesters in visage during the revolution. well i think this is democracy in egypt it's quite similar to what happened when democracy was introduced in gaza when people call for democracy they may not always realize that the electorate has a very different vision of how they would like their society is run and then in other places such as western europe people have called for democracy in egypt this is the result we have islamist hard line parties coming to power and it's going to be an earthquake for both egypt and for the region the fact that the all new party the second party in terms of size. came well ahead of all the other secular parties is also a sign of where egypt's future direction is headed although egypt's military government
12:03 pm
said it will fully hand over power to the new parlor. and there are some worry that they will try to retain its influence in the country what do you think. i think it's a certainty that the military will try and retain power because it's very concerned first of all for the future direction of egypt it does not want the new islamist government making changes that would damage the economy and that would reach egypt away from the west and towards this nice sunni islamist camp that's right rising up the army is very concerned about links between hamas which is also a branch of the islamic brotherhood movement and the new government in cairo and they're also worried about their stake in both egypt and economy in the egyptian political life they've gotten used to running the show and it's going to be very difficult for them now to accept the idea that they're only going to be tasked with defending the country physically and not having a say in how the country is run so i'm sure they're going to try and hold on to power for all those reasons how do you think the small effect egypt's ties with the
12:04 pm
rest of the world. as i've said i think egypt is going to start moving away from the pro western camp and it's going to find itself at the center of a new sunni islamist camp that's rising up in the region will be made up of countries such as turkey it would make it made up of gaza under the hamas islamist regime if syria is in syria if such falls it would be very likely that an islamist sunni camp would rise up there and you would see this new regional alliance springing up and i think egypt would be at the heart of that all right yeah i'll plop in a reporter at the jerusalem post thanks for your insight. the arab league is deciding what to do next in syria where airfare ports are true the violence remains unabated it's rumored that the group will extend its observer mission in the country because they think the presence of monitors has reduced the crisis in some areas are sorry for reports from damascus. they add minutes. meeting to present their findings on

what's been happening here in syria and to discuss what their next move will be now the arab league mission in the country to oversee the implementation of the arab peace. syria's government among other things that included the release of political prisoners the withdrawal of the government troops and tanks from some of the towns and cities how successful the sad league mission has been to place it will actually follow the arab league mission in the final three days here in the country now there are questions raised as to the neutrality and the credibility of the mission certainly seeing the way that they operated it couldn't question really just how independently they were able to operate in the country although the size of the poster be speaking to you he said. he didn't really seem to be taking in account of
12:06 pm
very thing this being obvious. from every single person he wanted to see another question that's raised a valid question is whether more of these monitors were needed than what is going to be interesting moving food is whether or not this mission is now extended because it can very divisive as a response to what the people want that the hospital not some people think this really is essential to this mission continues and in fact just possibly that i was speaking to one of the former advisors to the government and indeed the previous government here in syria we can listen to his opinion on the situation. the situation. taking place now we are weakening syria if you are syrian and you like syria. where you are. you have to put in your mind that you have to. be working with the other

capital zagreb police have clashed with protesters trying to pull down the head of the country's membership referendum sunday recent surveys suggest forty percent of the population are against joining the patrick young from investment advisory firm advisers says it's easy to understand because currents can see their neighbors in the bloc facing hard times. the key consideration here is that when we look at the croatian referendum there's been barely one and p. in the entire parliament who's actually been turning round of publicly saying
12:09 pm
anything against the e.u. itself so the fact that we have this amazing grind swell of support at something like forty percent easing credible it demonstrates the fact that the political classes are completely and utterly of touch with what the people are thinking and what the people are thinking is quite simple they've seen neighbors they've seen similar who are emerging european countries such as themselves people like slovakia slovenia is stony up all coming into the europe european union they join the euro zone and they find it the worst choice and chalice imaginable because slovakia nurses and pensioners are not getting paid a third of what they would get paid if they were working in greece and to add insult to injury they're actually paying money to the greeks in order to support their euro zone bailouts that's why the people in croatia are deeply concerned and that's why it's going to be a very interesting referendum result tomorrow meanwhile romania one of the newest members is suffering its worst protests in years for the second week running thousands of people are demanding the resignation of the government and president

controversial anti-piracy bills it follows some of the largest ever hacker attacks on americans top government and entertainment industry websites and a massive internet blackout in protest supporters of the legislation claim it will help protect the copyright online but internet giants like google and wikipedia say it will halt the free flow of information lawmakers stressed that although it's too late the initiative could be revived trevor tim from the electronic frontier foundation says the laws are not just and that fighting piracy. unfortunately the provisions were written so broadly that they would probably end up censoring millions of innocent users who never even thought about copyright infringement and the worst part was it wasn't going to stop online piracy you know the bills didn't go directly after the owners of these sites they kind of went around everything around it so it was going to be censored domain names or they were going to be delisted from search engines on the orders of the government or corporations were going to allow be allowed to cut off payment process or an advertiser from these

sites just basically on an allegation and on a closed court order and then again there was going to be broad immunity for a net service providers to its. force these bills so they could end up over blocking sites and capturing innocent users and even blocking sites voluntarily just on the unofficial orders of corporations so that there was a lot of a lot of free speech problems with these bills overall goal of stopping online piracy you know it's it's it's something everybody agrees with but the way they want to about it was just completely expansive and quite frankly ridiculous. well stay with us here on r.t. still ahead this hour. the media have a responsibility to guide the lambing down a better path no let me should have their mind of their own to explore how ready people are to believe me up stories when you throw in a much hype threat to the president out on the streets of new york with more. tame

in the elements and the next winter olympics host city we have people on daily patrol to hunt out avalanches and ensure safety. but first russia's announced plans to build mad research colonies on the moon the country's space agency is due in partnership with nasa and their counterparts in the e.u. to put men back on the lunar surface permanently artie's peter author explains how scientists hope exploring the moon will help us better understand the nature of life back on earth. because most want to send first off to unmanned probes to the surface of the nearest celeste steele neighbor and take samples bring them back to earth so they can be studied and analyzed with the hope eventually that we can set up a permanent base move now this all sounds very science fiction books it could very soon be science fact a moon base has been said that it could very well be a very good place to to launch spacecraft from could also be
12:17 pm
a very good place to build spacecraft of course the the gravity of the moon much less than there is a get see the effects less than gravity or zero gravity would have on a spacecraft much more than we could ever simulate on earth hopefully lots of very exciting things that we can see coming up in the next few years they say that hoping to these unmanned probes can be the first step towards perhaps setting up a permanent home on the moon. well moon base is still science fiction for now but some people seem ready to believe anything especially if you throw into the mix a long considered threat artie's laurie harshness went to the streets of new york to find out more. in the case of iran's nuclear capabilities people are quick to make judgments based on what they hear in the media but are they actually listening to what's being said this week let's talk about that do you agree with president obama's initiative to monitor iran's nuclear program from the moon. yes why i think it's important to
