a blonsky of notorious life it years while the hot headed canadian saw his appeal satisfied after serving a fifteen game ban the average mixed martial artist was handed the heavy penalty in november for yet another punch up on the ice one of the available sunday's game a champion followed up to live and struggling because look to end game losing streak. and finally with just a dozen games to go in the regular season latvian power has done our reader are going to reach their full straight playoffs and we are their captain the most prolific latvian in n.h.l. history sunday's as a lynch what needs to be done to achieve that goal and perhaps capture the coveted k h l crowd. that's my consistency consistency around game from mouth from day to day and i think that will if we were able to turn that around and have that consistency till the end of the season no matter who we are playing teams the ball was a mess that it was or below us and have that mental toughness than not going on i

think we'll have a good good run and by us. every team depends how much you follow her something is there you can there's always room and only you have everything right when you want to championships and that everything was good i mean there's but always until you do that yourself i was always something to improve and that's what we want to do as a team myself and say should improve every year every season and get better. we know the other team strengths and weaknesses and that where where that is and and not so we try to sort through to you as an artist manage what the what we can find out what their weaker spots are and seen what we can do and if it's a cesspool then we have a very good chance of winning games and i'm pretty sure the other team i know they look at as they they do
1:56 pm
a very close analysis of all game and our players and they're trying to do the same thing to us so afraid now we do respect a lot of i mean. there's every single team you have to respect them but afraid no we don't want to be afraid or against. different no question and say that for dynamo regular for a national team there that most of the tires some know they don't get tired at at all i mean they they they're they're from the first minute till the last minute of the game no matter what the score is and they're with us in a tough times and good times and all that and and for sure we were very fortunate to play at home which some would such a big huge fan base and with the support of the whole country. that's almost for this monday i think.

slams an arab league plan to solve the country's crisis for wiring the president assad's that down calling it interference in internal of bare bones. the e.u. formally adopted the oil embargo against iran as part of the president as sanctions against the country but there are fears that the sanctions may backfire join me for the details in a few moments. and gratiot votes in favor of joining the dead stricken the e.u. but a low turnout for the national referendum by the hotels exposed divisions within the country.
2:01 pm
eleven pm in moscow i matras a good to have you with us here on r.t. our top story this hour syria has rejected an arab league proposal to resolve the country's crisis that requires president assad to give up power damascus slammed the plan as interference in its internal affairs and attack on its sovereignty r.t. sorry for has more from the syrian capital. the arab league called president bashar al assad to step down and to hand power of his deputy they also called for the formation of a national unity government and that would be if we leave early parliamentary and presidential elections now those calls have been vehemently rejected by the syrian government here flagrant interference with the internal affairs really the sense here from damascus is that the government here are working on their own reforms
2:02 pm
they want the arab league mission to focus on their job of course the problem is you've got countries in the arab league like saudi arabia like qatar now seeing the sense that they're preaching democracy to syria when of course they themselves don't have democracy. russia's stance is once again that this should be seeking resolution with alice for an intervention i've actually spoken to the national coordinator council which is the opposition within the country they welcomed the maven again reiterated their felt that as long as there is no move towards foreign military intervention that they are very pleased with the response from the arab league mission because you still got observers on the ground it's expected that the mission is actually now going to continue possibly for another month and possibly with the extension of their powers and their numbers as well of course what you don't want to see happen now is that the arab league mission which is really the only route there remains a teacher seeing dialogue in the country to now have blocks put in its way so the
2:03 pm
question really is how to make the mission the observer mission more effective because as we've been witnessing in the past couple of weeks really at the moment in the country what you want to be thing is the sightedness and not further division but it's not for civilization it's for the gov. to holmes the conflict has moved ever closer to the country's capital and though many damascus suburbs are also embroiled in the conflicts between government forces and the armed opposition. well this is all that's left of many of the houses now inside just absolutely gutted it's broken glass you've got bullet holes lining the walls you've got clothes staying around the house but people have left them behind fleeing very quickly you can really see the devastating consequences that this conflict has hurt the picking up the pieces easy amongst the opposition themselves
2:04 pm
there are worrying divisions and as the conflicts become increasingly violent there are now areas of the country where it's unclear exactly is in control what do the people here. think the syrian army having control not or it's. not. a lot of numbers a number of six weeks ago is in charge and so. quickly this is the good of the division up with the stuff and league observers look set to remain in the country for another month trying to build the basis for multi-party elections even seen by the international community or sort of to where you are indeed a position you have to put in your mind that you have to work with the other side working with the other side don't look. for a change with thousands killed bringing the different factions to the negotiating
2:05 pm
table is going to be a major task. damascus syria. you have been posed fresh travel bans and asset freezes on the syrian regime as punishment for the ongoing violence to talk more about the growing pressure on the country i'm joined now by sara maher a political analyst from syracuse university she joins us live from beirut thanks for being with us again so the new sanctions are targeting the government but the head of the arab monitoring team confirmed today that the syrian army has resorted to force after being provoked at times by extremist attacks do you think the opposition should share responsibility for this unrest. of course there are certain parts of the opposition that should share the responsibility for the there are a good amount of syrians who are dedicated to peaceful demonstrations who have been showing up on the streets and have been resisting calls to violence but then there are also many dangerous segments of the opposition who have long used violence even back in the summer amnesty international was detailing how there was attacks
2:06 pm
against the syrian army against syrian government services and so we see this as more and more especially over the last several months with a lot of weapons coming in through foreign borders to the opposition that's becoming increasingly militarized and carrying out some very devastating attacks on syrian infrastructure syrian government institutions the police and also innocent civilians are getting killed in syria and so really the violence now is a two way street and it's really a failure of the syrian mission the observers if they're not going to have pressure on both sides it's unrealistic to force one side to make all the changes when there is violence coming from both sides what's going to happen to the silent majority of syrians who are not protesting are they going to be attacked by the more militant forms of protesters are they going to be injured in some sort of process that is
2:07 pm
not going to facilitate dialogue that's going to facilitate chaos and right now there really is no alternative plan for syria system of political governance and so it seems quite unrealistic for the arab league to put this on the table at this point of damascus is insisting that so-called terrorists in the country are being given arms from abroad would you make of that plane. well of course i don't think that the language of terrorists is very useful coming from a perspective of a very critical american citizen however i think that it is true like i just said some members of the opposition some groups have very have had dubious links to parties that just want to foment unrest in syria i think that it behooves certain political powers namely the united states israel in europe to create chaos in syria because it puts pressure on iran and right now i was a report was saying that it's going to talk about there is increasing pressure on
2:08 pm
iran the sanctions are having a huge impact on ordinary iranian citizens however they're not deterring the booklet or the political will of the whole nation to stand behind a peaceful nuclear regime so really right now we're seeing i think many western powers interested in fomenting unrest and syria and so they'll turn a blind eye to extreme weapons coming in through borders like lebanon and turkey to create the very militant i won't call them terrorist but very dangerous armed groups that are determined to create war and peace in syria the leaders called on president assad to hand over his power how much you think is influenced by countries like qatar and saudi arabia who been long advocating intervention. it's really interesting to hear. to say that we stand with the syrian people when many countries in the gulf are led by autocrats do not stand by their own people and of
2:09 pm
course these same dictators did not stand by the bluff raney people when they protested and we see from the developments in yemen for example a similar kind of deal that was negotiated it is not actually producing much on the ground there is talk of saleh now going to new york to get treatment and new york in america states to get treatment for burns and he's talking as if he's going to come back and resume power after he's been healed so we don't see developments moving in a very positive direction in yemen and there's no international media focusing on there's no western sanctions focusing on that it's all the attention on syria and it's for a very political purposes and it's just really disappointing to see an organization like the arab league become a political tool that's just as bad as you know any of the peace efforts the so-called peace efforts that have been going on between israel palestine or any of the negotiations between iran these are not neutral efforts they're not just for
2:10 pm
their very politicized and they're biased and they're not looking to see compromise they're looking to force the will of monic powers in europe and america and in israel upon the peoples from the arab peoples and really this is got to stop you made a couple points that i really like to follow up on but unfortunately we're out of time cyrus our political analyst in syracuse university. thank you egypt is one of the countries where people are now seeing the consequences of the democracy they fought so hard to achieve as the newly elected parliament explore this evolution session many egyptians feel they've been betrayed by the muslim brotherhood in its march to a majority. but first e.u. nations have formally adopted an unprecedented set of sanctions against iran including a block wide embargo on iranian oil the move targets the country's nuclear program which is on the republican says is purely for peaceful purposes russia says a regrets the sanctions adding they undermine diplomatic efforts to solve the
2:11 pm
crisis archies tests are so is in brussels with more on the use latest measures against iran. it's sensually a total oil embargo it will have immediate effect on new contracts but that existing contract will be allowed to run for another six months they've also agreed on a ban on a gold and gold trade and other precious metals with the iranian central bank all of these of course aiming to financially and economically cripple iran over its controversial nuclear program with western leaders still insisting iran is trying to build nuclear weapons while terror on denies this now the e.u. embargo follow strict new a u.s. sanctions that were passed into law by president obama in january so as far as the e.u. is concerned by july it will be a full and total implementation of these new sanctions this is unprecedented in terms of the scope and be desired a potential effect on iran but it is also one president in terms of its potential economic impact on the european union itself let's not forget the e.u. imports up to twenty percent of rain in all its second biggest buyer and above the
2:12 pm
twenty seven the biggest buyers within that are elite spain and greece the very same countries that are now struggling to deal with that sovereign debt crisis greece in particular heavily dependent on the radio or oil with up to one third of its total imports from iran also it's relying on terror for easier credit terms so they will definitely have to find alternatives for these countries these are what their leaders will have to talk about how to cushion the potential economic impacts on the several member states and of course because of all the uncertainty oil markets have already reacted pushing oil prices up and higher oil prices will just mean higher prices of goods. in libya at least four people are dead more than a dozen injured after fighting broke out in the former gadhafi stronghold bani walid fighters still loyal to the deposed leader clashed with militia groups after a warning from the national transitional council's leader that there is a real threat of renewed civil war protests in the city of benghazi forced his deputy to resign monday this past weekend in a rage libyans took to the streets of the city that was the center of the
2:13 pm
opposition against in the operation against gadhafi demonstrators now accusing the m.t.c. of her. blocking reform and favoring former of the government loyalist for more on this we're joined by patrick hayes reporter for our lives in spite thanks for being with us so may today's deadly clashes between gadhafi loyalists and militia suggest that libya could be headed for another civil war. i think it's important to get a certain sense of perspective i mean we are looking at about one hundred to one hundred fifty. loyalists here in one of his former strongholds so i think it would be too much to get carried away and say this is actually the mark of you know a big uprising although there are some reports of sleeper cells in tripoli at the moment firing shots this evening in support of the uprising in bani walid so i mean it does seem like there is support there this i don't find surprising i think is to be expected to a large extent because what happens you know last year was effectively the west
2:14 pm
bombing their way. bombing the way to democracy in many ways in the way that they kind of you know you have cameron and sarkozy saying well once we got rid of gadhafi it's a done deal we can now bring about democracy but you can't just bring about a democracy through baum's you have to bring about a democracy through a battle of ideas and that's broadly what was put on hold by western intervention last year so it doesn't surprise me that there's still people who are loyal to gadhafi and also the idea is that the search for until that things haven't been resolved or so it is reported that the uprising in bani walid was caused by a mistreatment and wrongful arrest the wrongful arrest of certain individuals in that town it does seem like at the moment people are very dissatisfied people who are sympathetic to gadhafi but also people who are demanding democracy and greater transparency with the national transitional council and i think that's why we saw the resignation of the deputy head the end of last week now i find that very
2:15 pm
interesting actually because well what i mean the national transition. council itself was very much something that was orange and chosen by the west not something that was chosen by the libyan people it was very much kind of put in place and then the kind of helicopter did when gaddafi was gotten rid of so the thing i find very striking here actually is that the n t c is doing itself any favors in terms of pro-democracy campaign is also seeing off. supporters as well. warnings for a long time that this could happen in bani walid people are saying very least we may get the uprising here and the m.t.c. did nothing about it they were warned and now bani walid to parent had been taken so it's not surprising and it does seem like the m.t.c. is impotent and this is reflecting the needs and desires of anyone in libya at the moment do you think of the unrest continues that nato the u.s. france england do you think they could step in again. well it's the worst possible
2:16 pm
scenario if that happens i mean i would suspect not there was a lot of congratulates really talk by cameron sarkozy and the bomber who kept a bit of a distance but was still involved after the fall of gadhafi i think they're going to be very reluctant to admit that what they didn't do was bring about democracy in the country they just basically put the struggle of the libyan people on hold while they were getting rid of gaddafi this was never just about good afy this was about self-determination of the libyan people the west intervention put that on hold it's now regime ng in kind of messy ways and that's what you would expect so i think but i don't think to answer your question i think they'll be very reluctant to get involved again and obviously their focus on syria and iran at the moment but they want to kind of rewrite history and say what they did was a real success they brought democracy to libya this is the model that works and i think they want to be keep themselves in that self-delusion for as long as possible
2:17 pm
so i think they'll be reluctant to step in i think they want to turn a blind eye for as long as they possibly can and finally do you think we'll see other members step down in the light of this violence and protest. well you know it's very interesting that mr goh the deputy head stepped down last week. and of course the mayor of benghazi stepped down as well i think the thing about the n t c was as i said it was already got its kind of legitimacy being orientating towards the west getting the proof of western leaders rather than the libyan people and now we're having these very dramatic and actually i think quite exciting scenes where the m.t.c. always for the first time of being confronted by the libyan people who are storming the local offices and demanding more transparency demanding more accountability demanding that things be done to represent their interests all we've got from the n.t. see at the moment are excuses and i think a lot of people who are members of the m.t.c. i remember a lot.
