full of heartfelt success stories about the economy and about jobs it was at times very touching but there is a lot of skepticism among americans right now social inequality in america is now at a level unseen since the great depression the top one percent of wealthiest in the country are making a killing while the middle class is shrinking dramatically and that the app is getting wider american jobs are being outsourced to other countries president obama's state of the union speech was motivational photo of full of good intentions intentions but the fact that almost all of his major economic initiatives got bogged down in congress like the jobs act and that he put forward last year is giving a sense to may need that he might be saying all the right words but. they may not be necessarily followed by deeds. going there he reiterated that the u.s. remains a key power player in the world what's the road map laid out for washington's foreign policy. well kerry we have to remember that he
11:01 pm
ran on the foreign policy front he ran on promises to end wars but while he pull troops out of iraq and started winding down the war in afghanistan with the plaids to bring all troops home by twenty fourteen america's wars did not stop there president obama bombed levy a last year to the tune of bringing about democracy here leaving much of the country's infrastructure destroyed and its future very much alarming the country's about to adopt tria laws bases for their new laws which is pretty much in from pavel with democratic values and violence is still simmering in leave but in president obama's presentation it sounded like what happened to leave you know was one big success story also the u.s. senate may now be on the verge of an all out confrontation with iran and in the speech he once again said all options are on the table washington is now actively building up military presence in the persian gulf region fifteen thousand troops
11:02 pm
dispatched to kuwait is just one of the latest steps there knew he was drawing bases are popping up in the arabian peninsula so we see that while president obama went through went through over with the promises to scale back on iraq and afghanistan and he's been. he's been actively believe building a platform for possibly new wars and also just about the other promise that that he did not even mention in this speech and that is to shut down guantanamo he promised to shut down guantanamo by the end of twenty eleven but you know instead we have seen him signing the indefinite detention act which are infuriated so many americans of course he talked about america's mission to hunt down terrorists globally president obama certainly prides himself on his role in killing osama bin laden and a number of other terrorists but the means by which the u.s. is going about that task chasing down terrorists raises
11:03 pm
a lot. of red flags that there is a crisis in the west pakistan relations because pakistanis are you created by the right right kind of thing many of the things that happened recently their own pakistani soldiers some experts argue that washington is doing it what washington is doing is fighting terror and provoking terror at the same time. ok we'll leave it there for now artie's going to church of terror live from the u.s. capitol thank you. and staying with this story let's now get some reaction to barack obama's speech from the libertarian party activist wes benedict who joins us via broadband from louisiana thank you for joining us here on our team that we just heard new promises of even more change but in your view how much improvement has barack obama actually brought over these past three years. well not much from our perspective president obama did say that anyone who tells you that america is in decline is wrong and i think that's just i think he is absolutely wrong i don't
11:04 pm
blame just president obama you have to blame the republicans the former president bush and republicans in congress as well but we have some major problems here in the united states we're spending way more than we can afford a lot of that unfortunately is on military adventurism your previous guest talked about you know of raising increasing the efforts in afghanistan we should we should never have gone into afghanistan or iraq we should bring our troops home from both right now we're rattling the sabers against iran that is not what we should be doing and obama did not apologize for those same seek a somewhat campaigned as someone who would be a little bit more peaceful than president bush was but in fact he sounds proud of our efforts over there and that's wrong so that the military adventurism we can't
11:05 pm
afford it we need to bring our troops home but the end similarly there are problems here with our government too involved domestically and by that i'm talking about in the economy we had those bailouts several years ago we've been bailing out auto companies he's now bragging about the results we've bailed out banks that is not free markets it's not what america was founded on when in free markets you have companies that make bad decisions they go bankrupt ok so out on the home front the president made no mention of the anti corporate bulky party movement which has been the war raging across the country for the past four months what do you make of that . well i i agree with them in some ways we've have too much crony capitalism here and i don't agree with all the solutions that the occupy wall street supporters promote but you have a mix there it's not just socialists and i capitalists you have people who are big supporters of the ron paul movement here in the u.s.
11:06 pm
some libertarians there. we may not all agree on the solutions but they are greedy that we've got to get government and big business out of bed they're in bed together and as treating problems president obama as a proposing to raise taxes for the richest americans how's that locking to go down with the wealthier parts of the that it well they'll say they're against it but keep in mind every time they raise taxes on the wealthy they also give incentives they give consent to big corporations that are also in owned by the same wealthy people are supported in financed by these big banks so they may raise taxes but then they put loopholes and give incentives it's it's the opposite of what we should be doing we should be cutting taxes across the board but also cutting incentives for businesses across the floor to make when you have those incentives threat of taxation that's when businesses hire lobbyists to go to washington and
11:07 pm
they get special favors for summing up then how do you see barack obama's chances of getting reelected in the vendor and on his republican rivals any better. i don't think there's that much difference between president obama and his republican rivals they have different rhetoric but once in office stay off and deliver the same things both supported supported the foreign wars both have supported the bailouts i obviously i'm a libertarian and i prefer to have libertarians in there who would oppose the wars and the bailouts but they both support those if the economy's doing terrible if it's getting worse i think that you know voters tend to vote for the opposite party and that would tend to help republicans things are bad but they're not terrible so i say president obama unfortunately as a good chance to win it but to me you know whether it's mitt romney or newt
11:08 pm
gingrich or president obama it doesn't make a whole lot of difference ok live from the u.s. military and party at west bennett thank you for joining us today thanks for having me. it with r.t. and still to come on the program a meeting of monetary minds if it isn't banking elites descend on davos for the world economic forum's find out how much focus will fall on forming the global financial system. but are searching for a fair salary why a legal loophole in india has left many without jobs or stable income. fighters for libya's interim government have set up checkpoints outside the town of bani walid it's in response to the city being seized by market duffy loyalists who raise the green flag which was a symbolic of the ousted regime five people were killed and twenty five injured in monday's clashes elders in the town said they will now appoint only local

a reintroduction tribalism and there's networks and so on and so you know. that there is a lot of disquiet in every corner of libya it's a truism of there's no sense. because the civil wars are the most brutal affairs and so you so you can imagine. nato but i don't need to imagine made to really pushed the envelope and they broke the resolution they were there to defend civilians that was the mandate and they were essentially became the rebel rebels air force and so they were attacking the all you know almost total annihilation of very messy very brutal and i think there's quite a lot of acts of revenge taking place as well although we have more news and stories for you on our website r.t. dot com here's a look at what you can find there right now trading real gold gold iran will reportedly bypass the latest round of western sanctions by accepting the precious metal as payment for its own exports also. from one online source to another

a part of everyday life and no longer in event one of the revolutions most significant achievements. what i could never believe come out and speak out like. there are several reasons for egypt's people to take out to the streets following the uprising that ousted mubarak last february the country's economy is struggling unemployment is at its highest in decades and while the movie elected islamist dominated parliament debate the country's future resentment grows against military rule and the feeling they hijacked the revolution is organised we want them to do what military should do it protect its citizens and not rule the country people. want to be sure that there will not destroy our solutions achievements they betrayed us the military dominated egypt's politics since the fall of the monarchy

sixty years ago some skeptics say the twenty eleven revolution did little to change this trend. where mubarak toppled down people welcome to the supreme council of the armed forces to lead the transition but the initial euphoria began to fade when the military council was still in place six months later after one bloody crackdown on peaceful protesters after another claim at least eighteen lives as a toper there isn't any doubt left here scaf should go i believe that they're there i mean our life i believe that we don't want them anywhere here in this chair that's what i believe in the words and that's what most of what i all i know believe and the work whatever happens as these are works with and to scholars are scared because the blue in arabic or army lawyers campaign they work to reveal the army's wrongdoings p.t. not female activists. attacking field hospitals and conspiracy theories under the

capitalism in its current form has no place in the world around us talking about much of the of the discontent we've seen over inequality that we've seen with the occupy wall street movement which is on the agenda when some of these sessions are talking about remodeling capitalism occupy is one of the things that they're talking about interesting lee though none of those activists are invited to the forum to have that discussion but they are here really highlighting the difference separating everybody else from the elites that are meeting here they have the igloo and can't mint which many people are talking about but they're very much here now as far as what exactly is going to go on i'll do my best to show you that the more i'm looking at these reports of what the press is going to be able to do it looks like i'm not going to be able to see a film or go a lot of the places that i would want to go except for maybe in thirty minute increments what's a day hopefully as supported by someone from the world. economic forum for me to lock down from some of these big business leaders and heads of state and central
